Replaying the good Assassins Creeds for the right amount of palate variety and a tiny dose of nostalgia

No monkeys paw knowing Ubi but 1 still totally unique and I'd love a remaster (they would ruin it however.)

Ezio collection still holds up really well though going for full synch is a more frustrating than interesting challenge

Very fond memories of 3, hope it also holds up

Gonna see how I feel after 3, might get burnt out on it again.

I'll try to stay brief because there are a lot of those.

Thunder Junction: I was expecting to like this set more than I have been. The tropey character twists of MKM and the fact they just dropped a dozen existing named characters without really getting any deeper on any of them makes me roll my eyes more than anything, I'd have liked an actual new set of characters for once.

Modern Horizons III: Excited for some fun designs, dreading some pushed designs, baffled by commander precons, like the idea of new sparkers.

Assassin's Creed: I have mostly no care for that franchise or the associated designs so far. It'll exist. I'm a bit amused that they committed to the small booster formula so far and with another company before the first one even went to print and faceplanted.

Bloomburrow: Cute and new! Well, except for the fursona bonus sheet, but hopefully that's just a fun addition and it's not another set of "new setting, but all old characters" again, because we haven't had something new in a good while. At least it's a bit less tropey a space than Western or Detectives.

Duskmourn: Now that we've seen Thunder Junction and MKM, I expect the modern horror set to also be pretty shallow, and it's not a genre I have much investment in. Hopefully they don't feel the need to make it all about known characters being trapped in the mansion!

Innistrad Remastered: Would have been much better instead of Double Feature, and also probably will get forgotten like the last few remastered sets that were overpriced and/or underprinted. Be honest, whoever is reading this: did you remember they announced that?

Interplanar Death Race set: Chaining together genres that I don't care much or any about, though given its nature I expect this one will be old characters at least, as it should be.

Return to Tarkir: Finally we get development on that situation of returning Khans! We do, right?

Final Fantasy: I'm not the biggest Final Fantasy fan, I've played a couple of them, but it's the same kind of set as LotR was, and that was a success regardless, and there's a lot of material to pull from in Final Fantasy. Cautiously optimistic.

Space Set: Neat! I hope they pull it off and make it feel expansive and alive without invalidating the rest of the game!

Return to Lorwyn: A bit too far into the future to know what to expect, but the one narrow and unhelpful look at Lorwyn in March of the Machine did not make me hopeful for the return, especially with how the previous block ended!

Return to Arcavios: That's a lot of returns! Hopefully this is about Arcavios as a whole and not as focused on Strixhaven. Honestly had forgotten this was a set!

First Marvel booster set: See Final Fantasy. Thankfully, probably will be focused on the comics moreso than the MCU. But wouldn't surprise me if the different sets are different comic book runs. We don't know enough details to give a real opinion.

Finale to the multi-year story arc: I imagine the arc will end with battling returning Fomori or a big villain taking control of their tech in some way. It's starting pretty slowly for now, so can't really guess much about this one.

It's review time!

Overall, I loved Assassin's Creed 2, it's a huge step up from the previous game!

Animation: The animation was very good! Though considering I played the remastered version, that's pretty much a given,

Environment: While AC1's environmenta were very distinct, I felt that AC2 suffered from having so many cities, most buildings are a beige yellow colour with similar architecture and don't offer much distinction. I can only really remember four cities broad characteristics, with Tuscany being dark, Venice having lots of water, Florence having some greenery around the edges and Forli being small. With so many large cities, it's difficult to spend enough time in them to become familiar when you're doing the main story.

Audio: The voice acting was a huge step up from the previous game, you can really read the character's emotions from their tone, and I've gushed about the music enough times to know that it was beautiful.

Story: Ezio's story was great! It starts off small, trying to get revenge for his family, but grows bigger over time! Though one critique I have is that I felt it dragged on a little? But that's probably just me

Desmond didn't really have a lot of time to shine, with infrequent breaks from the animus leading to a info dump at the end of the game, but I'm interested to watch him get fucked over by over animus use!

Overall, I felt both stories would do better if they averaged out their run time

Characters: I've said this once before and I'll say it again, I love how Ezio is characterised! We're introduced to him (properly, not straight out of the womb) with him defending his family's honour, with the first few quests highlighting even further that he loves his family! So when he loses half of them, it's such a gut punch! Over the story, we see how he slowly becomes a less brash person and matures, and I love it!

Desmond, while he has less run time, still shows growth! When we first meet him, he insists that he's not an assassin, but now he's all for it! The question is... How much of that is Altair's influence?

One thing I'm not sure on is when he's forced to watch grandpa get freaky on top of Acre fort, he brushes it off as a weird dream, despite being warned multiple times that seeing his ancestor's memories outside of the animus is a Bad Thing™

Gameplay: I enjoyed the gameplay lot! It felt a lot smoother than AC1, though there was a small bug that I occasionally encountered. It basically prevented me from initiating a proper fight when using the wrist blades, and attempting failed assassinations every time I pressed X. Other than that, no complaints!

Misc: I'll always appreciate the subtitles <3 they make it so much easier to learn people's names

Overall, I'm giving Assassin's Creed 2 a 9/10!

These statistics apparently lack my time spent on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as I played it on my husband's account due to the Activision account requirement. Third-party account linking is annoying and needs to go die in a fire. I was unable to play Assassin's Creed Mirage demo because I had downloaded it on my Xbox account but required Ubisoft account was linked to my husband's Xbox account. And my husband was unable to play the demo, even though he had the appropriate account but because the demo had been downloaded on my Xbox account! Needless to say they lost a sale right there.

But enough ranting. I really like these statistics Xbox provides and find their platform/console fantastic. The Play Anywhere feature is amazing: buy one game, get it for PC + console, swap between devices and continue where you left off with your progress. Quick Resume is another feature I love as I can get into the game in an instant. Not to mention Game Pass which enables us both to try a bunch of games easily.

Looking forward to more fun experiences on Xbox in 2025!

Outlaws of Thunder Junction (Q2 2024):

like 35%? its cool! i like the west quite a lot, everyones excited for deadbeat dad oko. im just not expecting a ton and id love to be proven wrong! new planes are always fun and it would be a delight to fall in love with thunder junction but my expectations are very tempered. supposedly its about "villians"-- of which my biggest dream is a reveal of a phyrexian that wasnt killed onscreen to be hanging out there. rakdos would be cool too.

Modern Horizons 3 (Q2 2024)

90%. i cant wait frankly. modern horizons 1 and 2 feature some of my favorite magic cards ever and ive never been around for a modern horizons release so im just so excited. cant wait. big fan i bet there will be so many cool cards dude holy shit

5%. i dont give a shit about assassins creed. i like the aesthetics of black flag i guess. this is a set with boosters and the cards will supposedly be modern legal(?) but they arent draftable so thats gonna be a shitshow when the boosters are overpriced and you cant even run limited events with them like MAT but like. at least MAT was awesome and had a bunch of banging cards and introduced cool deciduous mechanics to standard and gave us [[Rocco, Street Chef]]. all this is giving us is ezio or some shit

100%. i am so onboard with final fantasy dude i feel like it will be so fucking cool compared to like marvel or doctor who or whatever. final fantasy fits so perfectly with the other mtg planes and theres so many interesting things to pull from every game could be its own set so the fact that theres like so much shit there like its so exciting like i cant wait for this one. im gonna play final fantasy 6 with wrenny before it comes out so thats exciting too teehee ^_^

"Volleyball" 2025 (top down space opera set):

95%. a space opera could be so fucking cool. im worried theyll fumble the bag and make it really fucking star warsy and thats a truly terrifying thought but i have faith that we can get so see some more interesting and solemn parts of space in magic the gathering. i think a plane with fledgeling space operations and wild star littered frontiers would be so fucking sick and thats like maybe one of my dream sets. please dont fuck this one up
