meet the Brotherhood

Courtesy of the ever-talented @tired-lime , this is the formal introduction and debut of my Assassin’s Creed OC

Name: born as “Merytre”, then modernized it to Mara

Height: 5’8

Biography: She is somewhat prone to “magic” because of contact with an Isu artifact that rubbed off on her, hence immortality. A merchant gifted her a dagger retained from a “mysterious cave with markings” (precursor site), and she’s had with her since then. Merytre was born near the beginning of Ancient Egypt, with her mother a pottery maker and her father overlooking construction of cities. As aging took place, it became noticeable how she never changed which is why she was eventually sent away for “travels”, forever frozen as a young adult, and wandered throughout the world. Separated from her family, Mara searched for a people to call her own, be it with other nomads or mercenaries who taught her how to fight. Sometimes she woke up with a group. Sometimes she woke up alone and abandoned.

Strengths: excellent with close target aim, long swords, knives, short swords, elbow and wrist Hidden Blade, and forms of poison

Weakness(es): her eyes are more sensitive to the sun due to the effects of her immortality, hence why is she not expert at long distance targets (archery, firearms, etc.). Also, she has some scarring/scar tissue along her shoulders, waist and legs. Her faded blue robes now have movable pieces of armor along her vulnerable areas to protect herself

Personal: She loves the color blue. Sweets are her favorite food. She likes to be up with the sun to start the day and watch the sun set as well. Visiting the ocean pits her nerves at ease. Lavender is her favorite flower, and she’s fond of all types of small pets (cats, dogs, rabbits, chinchillas, etc.). Her eyes were brown but changed to purple after the effects of the dagger. Her famed pendant was from a Carnivale festival during the Italian Renaissance, and she swiped her earrings from a museum exhibit during her travels in London.

Events in AC: Along her travels, she became a traveling companion to Kassandra as she felt a kinship for the shared immortality. When she heard of the formation of the Brotherhood back in Egypt, she returned home to find a place of belonging and felt whole after so many centuries. Travels and assignments took her from the Northmen and back, across the world’s continents. Based off the writings in the Codex, it goes easily noticed of an individual woman with “amethyst eyes”. But surely, no mortal can live that long, right?

Weight of a Feather, Assassin's Creed: Origins fanart, watercolour and acrylic gouache on hot press paper, 17.8 x 25.4 cm

This is one of those that I don't care if no one likes it, or if there are obvious mistakes/things that don't make sense, I'm proud of myself for managing to do it traditionally and that's that. It's for no one but me, I'm just sharing it with you :)

I started it in 2021, even began to paint it, but burnout is a bitch and I couldn't finish it then. Recently I decided to see if I could complete it traditionally and this is the result! It was inspired by a screenshot I took where Bayek's face is entirely in shadow. I then added elements that relate to Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice, and the ceremony of the Weighing of the Heart, where she'd weigh a dead person's heart against her ostrich feather, to see if they were worthy of going on to the Field of Reeds (a sort of paradise). (Egyptologists don't @ me 😭)
