"The result is a semi-formal, subtly playful story inspired by the 18th century pistols-at-dawn duels in Kurbrick’s Barry Lyndon. Only here, in the alternate universe of the short, the practice has continued into the 21st century. Then, and now, these antiquated rituals of solving grievances were of course dangerous things, but also smacked of vanity, absurdity, and futility."

說實話我若是沒有閱讀 Kurt Halfyard他所寫的影片短評，得知"The Second"其故事背景，我看完影片的當下真的覺得很生氣，這都什麼時代了，怎麼還會有如此迂腐又荒謬的傳統決鬥儀式，父親竟然讓自己的兒子去面對這個人生的風險，天知道的虛榮心還有什麼比生命還重要的比賽？簡直莫名其妙！(To be honest, if I hadn't read Kurt Halfyard's review of the film and learned about the background story of "The Second", I was really angry after watching the film. What era is this? How can there still be such pedantic and… Ridiculous traditional duel ritual, the father actually allowed his son to face this risk in life, God knows what kind of vanity is there?
