Hello,
I didn't know you answered questions about your stories. I, too, have been curious about some points, including the same AU if you'd be kind. I really like it 🥹
Did Rhaegar love her? Like her? Was it for the sake of children. I'm certain he loved Lyanna but what about his wife?
Was he planning to keep Lyanna as mistress? A second wife? Was Lyanna agreeable to sharing from the beginning? In the books, she certainly wasn't. So what was the plan? To have both but never touch his wife again for Lyanna's sake?
Whatever the plan from the previous second point, how did Arthur feel about it when he was with them? Did he think that Rhaegar had every right to in case he didn't love her/she couldn't have children?
Did the princess like/ love Rhaegar?
What does Rhaella think? And what was her reaction?
What about little Viserys?
Here you go anon! I’m sorry if my answers are a bit all over the place. This AU is still a long way off from being finished.
Warnings: Mentions of infidelity | Divorce/Annulment | Targaryen marriage practices
Did Rhaegar love her? Like her? Was it for the sake of children. I'm certain he loved Lyanna but what about his wife? Rhaegar married his sister (a twin whom I will call Vaesella) since it was the custom in his family to wed brother and sister. Rhaegar did care about Vaesella, but there was no love on his end. The lack of a direct heir did trouble the others, but Rhaegar was not all that bothered about it since he and Vaesella were still young, and he already had an heir in his little brother.
Was he planning to keep Lyanna as mistress? He was not, certainly not after he received a message from Dayne and the others saying Lyanna was with child. Lyanna would never have agreed to be kept as his mistress anyway.
A second wife? Was Lyanna agreeable to sharing from the beginning? In the books, she certainly wasn't. She was not at all agreeable with such an arrangement in the beginning. She only changed her mind after she overheard Vaesella crying to her mother one night, and the impact of what she and Rhaegar did finally sank in.
So what was the plan? To have both but never touch his wife again for Lyanna's sake? The plan was for Rhaegar to have both women as his queens and for him to be a husband in every way to both. He did care for his first wife, and he did not want to hurt her even more. However, the arrangement would not have worked even if the law, the Faith, and the nobles supported him having two wives because he would have spent more nights with Lyanna than he would have with Vaesella, Lyanna would have always been compared to Vaesella (and she still would be to some extent in the AU I’m coming up with), and neither queen would have liked him spending nights with the other. Furthermore, Vaesella would have become resentful and bitter. Ending the marriage to Vaesella, as heartbreaking as it was in the beginning, was the best thing for everyone involved.
Whatever the plan from the previous second point, how did Arthur feel about it when he was with them? Did he think that Rhaegar had every right to in case he didn't love her/she couldn't have children? In this AU, Arthur, despite his friendship with Rhaegar, is a stickler for vows. This includes the vows of marriage. He believed Rhaegar should have honored his vows and stayed loyal to his wife, but, as he was a member of the Kingsguard, he kept his opinions to himself.
Did the princess like/ love Rhaegar? While Rhaegar cared about Vaesella, Vaesella fell in love with him. News about him and Lyanna having a relationship that resulted in a child devastated her.
What does Rhaella think? And what was her reaction? Rhaella was appalled by what Rhaegar did, and she was heartbroken for her daughter. When he told her of his decision to end his marriage and marry his sister off to Arthur, she shocked everyone by slapping him. She is respectful toward him and Lyanna after this incident, but it is only for the sake of their child. And before anyone asks, she dotes on Aenar.
What about little Viserys? In this AU, Viserys doesn’t understand what’s truly going on, except that his beloved big sister is unhappy and that Lyanna’s presence is somehow the cause of it. He ignores Lyanna most of the time and fights with Rhaegar often. He is then sent to Dorne to be fostered by Doran Martel.

Racoon prince in riding leathers and gremlin wlw man-hating nun. Chaos will ensue 🌙🌿
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Piccrew version of Madera in the most septish outfit I could manage and Aegon in the best version of riding leathers I could do.
Aegon is spot on with the dark circles under the eyes but he's gonna find a good companion in Madera who is a sleep deprived girlie since when she was a kid.

I actually think a lot of this really bad and biased advice...
particularly 1,5,6, & 7
this doesn’t account for names that are culturally significant ... and also kind of biased towards english speakers and Americans.
A lot of time a Name for me comes before an OC. MY DA OC Maeve... for example. She was born out of me being intested in the Witch of the Wilds Lore and Morrigan being named Morrigan and me wanting to explore triple goddess themes in my writing. Everything else came after..
A lot of Irish Names are really hard to understand the pronunciation on paper simply due to how the Irish Langue is... this doesn’t mean names like Saoirse are BAD NAMES. It means that you maybe have to take the extra 90 second to add in pronunciation guide.
The best rule of thumb when naming a character I found is just give them a name. While I think there are things that could factor in. I think setting any kind of rule on what people should and shouldn’t name character is wrong.
The example they used... for names sounding a like... John, Jacob, Joseph... THAT’S THREE MAIN CHARACTERS FROM A MAJOR GAME SERIES...sometimes you NEED these types of things to add deep lore and worldbuilding. GRRM does this as well.. in fact HE HAS PEOPLE WITH THE SAME FIRST NAME. HOW MAN JONS ARE IN ASOIAF? #6 can really GTFO of here because no... sometimes worldbuilding requires this.
Don’t let people’s personal rules, because that’s what this list appears to be... dictate your writing. Just Write and create the characters as the muses give them to you and DO NOT STRESS over if you are giving an OC a name that is significant to you, your culture, the culture you are writing about, the story YOU ARE TELLING. What works for someone MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU AND YOUR STORY.
EDITED TO INCULUDE ORGINAL LIST AUTHORS BIO INFO -
Wife, mom, teacher, author, kisser of scraped knees, encourager of the downtrodden, guzzler of coffee, and, most importantly, passionate follower of Jesus. Thanks for dropping by!
so take this biased advice for what it’s worth as it comes from a hetro (i try not make assumptions about people’s sexuality but...) appearing middle aged fairly conservative writer.

[via] [Advice from Jody Hedlund]
1. Develop our character before picking the name. I fill out my character worksheet and get to know as much about my character as possible before deciding on a name. As I develop the character’s personality, ethnicity, quirks, life-experiences, etc., I’m able to narrow down names that might match that person. For example, in The Doctor’s Lady, my heroine is a well-educated, pious lady from a wealthy family. I chose the name Priscilla because it has a more refined and elegant ring than a name like Mary or Betty.
2. Find names that match our setting and fit with the plot.  Once my character is starting to come to life, I also evaluate how that character fits within the plot and setting. In my current WIP, which is set in the lumber communities of central Michigan, I sorted through rural names, as well as logging era names. And I tried to think which ones would fit within the tone of the plot.
3. Use time-period appropriate names. This is especially critical for historical writers. I generally pull up the list of the most popular names for the year or decade in which my character was born. I also look at lists of names in biographies and research books for the particular time period of my book. In the 1600’s, 29% of men were named John (that’s about 1 out of 3 men!) and 15% of women were named Elizabeth. Thus, in The Preacher’s Bride I felt almost obligated to name my MC’s John and Elizabeth. Not really! But you get my point.
4. Use symbolism if possible. While we can’t always attach symbolism to names, we can look for ways to give special meaning to some of the names we choose. In my WIP, I looked at the meaning of hero names before choosing one. Whether the reader ever realizes it or not, part of my hero’s character arc is about him learning to live up to his name—which means “strong as a wolf.”
5. Avoid picking names that readers will have a difficult time saying. I get annoyed when I read character names I can’t pronounce—oddly-spelled or too-long names. This is even more frustrating when the name belongs to the MC and I have to read the “weird” name ten times per page. I suggest avoiding names (as fun and nice as they might be) that might trip up our readers. We should also limit the number of foreign names for the same reason.
6. Avoid having names that start with the same letter or sound.  I keep a running list of every character that crops up in my book—a sheet I can easily scan. I do my best to start each name with a different letter. I don’t want to have a John, Joseph, and Jacob all in the same book. Or a Polly and Molly. When names are too similar, we have to make our readers work harder to remember our characters. And our job as writers is to make the reading experience as smooth and pleasant as possible.
7. Remember, unique doesn’t always mean better. Sometimes when names are too unique they can distract a reader from the story. I like unique last names, especially when they’re real (like Goodenough or Covenant). But often those kinds of names have a ring of disbelief. When I get too carried away, my editors send me back to the drawing board for a simpler name (as they did with the two examples I mentioned!).
8. Make sure our minor character names don’t overshadow our main characters.  It’s fun to find especially dark and sinister names for our antagonists. In The Doctor’s Lady, one of the bad guys is named Black Squire. He’s a rugged fur trapper that wears a black eye patch. The name fits. But, we have to make sure we don’t spend more time crafting the perfect names for lesser characters so that they become more vibrant and alive than the MC’s.
