looking up from her computer to see cliff standing there with roses, she almost forgot about her birthday and usually she never had anybody to celebrate with. getting up from her desk and making her way around to reach him, wrapping her arms around him.

“cliff!” she took the roses and smiled up at him. “you didn’t have to do anything but this means… so much.”

“i know,” he says, looking down, his cheeks red and warm. “i just wanted to make sure you had something almost as beautiful as you to look at,” he said, his voice quiet and lacking a bit in the confidence department, but he’d said it!

he shifted his weight on his feet and cleared his throat. this was nerve wracking!
