Watching all the episodes with the purple dragons again, I'm kinda shocked to realize that Donatello and Kendra ARE actually very similar and share the same bad traits. Being both extremely egocentric when it comes to certain things, but what do they decide to do about all that it's what makes them different. I think the relationship between Kendra and Jason mirrors Donatello's relationship with his siblings; specifically Leo. The thing is, Donatello fucking loves Leo, Kendra despises Jason (at least from what we have seen in the show.)

Thinking about this after reading 'The Knight and the Dragon', since you made a really good point about how Jase needs to stop depending on everyone else, and how similar Donnie actually is to his stepsister. The difference between them is that Donnie, even when he doesn't get emotions and can be really insensitive; really wants to change and understand him. Kendra has never made that effort.

I could also make a whole other point about how it's OBVIOUS that the rise writers and character designers tried to make Jason and Donatello similar to represent the fact that Donatello was kind of a replacement to him in the purple dragons. But I think I already made this way too long 😭😭

16. You can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc.)

There are a lot of things that I really can’t understand why people enjoy in star wars asldkfjs. But here’s a couple that I really don’t get: The tendency to fixate on the age of the clones. This either leads to people infantilizing them (oh they’re technically only 9 years old so they definitely only know how to go to war and die for the republic, but are otherwise incapable of engaging with adult concepts like sex, brotherhood (fucking laughable) etc.) OR it leads to people acting as though there is nothing particularly horrifying about being a human being grown to die. Like in my opinion the most interesting way to engage with clones is to acknowledge that they have mature brains and plenty of worldy experience, including beyond blasting droids, while also acknowledging the tragedy of the fact that they were literally grown to die for the republic, and have few concrete ties to the world around them outside of those developed to better efficiently do battle (ie, to their jedi commanders and to their brothers).

I dislike a lot of the broader fanonization of Obi Wan, too. Like this is something one of my mutuals talks about periodically but Obi Wan is best understood in my opinion as a character who consistently fails to uphold the jedi code, and continues to try anyways. Somebody who is deeply attached to the people in his life, such as Anakin, Ahsoka, and Satine. And yet, despite this, continuously harms himself and them by denying himself the indulgence of these relationships. I also think people are annoying about his relationship with Maul, which is more a symbol for how Obi Wan interfaces with his own beliefs surrounding the jedi order and the republic, than an actual relationship. But people like to meme-ify Obi Wan and all his relationships in general, or portray him as the perfect jedi, humble and smoothtalking when his arrogance and big mouth are two of his bigger and more consistent character flaws. This is just annoying to me because it’s just not interesting.

I also dislike people who watch the bad batch. Universally the most annoying star wars fans, ever

Just saw ur tags on that homestuck post and honestly….. it’s so hard to say. Like a lot of it didn’t age well, it’s very much a product of a cishet white man in the early 2010s. That said… it really is a masterclass in storytelling. And conceptually it’s fascinating. It’s a creation myth with roots in computer science but also so much of is is Ridiculous with a capital R. ooh this is all really good to know, yeah I had basically zero idea what it's about (truly, even 'creation myth with roots in computer science' is not something I would have guess and that sounds right up my alley) so I appreciate you sharing your firsthand experience!! also I learned more about object oriented programming from the video you linked than I did from my masters program alsdkfjs so at the very least that's a win

having prior knowledge of the context is helpful ALSO I will be wary of said horrible fans. asldkfjs I'm still contemplating but feel like I might at least give it a go (via the archive, thanks!) and see if I like it.
