😤 Any Zelda-related Pet Peeves?

I don't know if this is a pet-peeve as I think it's just a problem I have with the fandom or fandom at large. Maybe somewhere in the middle?

But to be quite honest, I think people take this franchise waaaay too seriously. I'm talking about people obsessing over the timeline, the continuity, and stuff like it. Not to say the theorizing can't be fun and engaging. I love watching Zelda theory videos for this reason. But I see people going nuts over things that don't really matter and it doesn't seem to matter too much to Nintendo either. (Also context gets lost due to translations, but I'm not going to get into that. I can't blame fans for that either).

And this branches into criticism too. Not here saying no games shouldn't be critiqued, but I see people nitpick or misinterpret something and then state it as if it's objective fact. This has been going on for years, but it's been getting worse and worse. Tears of the Kingdom is a good current example. Since it's launch I have seen the wildest takes that make my head spin. But that's a problem I have with the internet as a whole and not uniquely an issue with this fandom.

Or maybe I'm too old for this shit, I don't know LMAO. I'm getting off my soapbox.

🙊 Unpopular Zelda Opinions?

Okay no I'm grabbing the soapbox back. Uhh...

Water Temple in OoT is not that bad. Remaster made it easier to navigate but it's not as frustrating as people make it out to be.

Vaati's a boring villain and not as interesting as people make him out to be. His final fight is cool though.

Also Minish Cap is okay? People were raving about this being the best 2D Zelda and it's got good stuff, but it didn't wow me.

Revali is the best champion, fight me.

Majora's Mask is best Zelda game you can also fight me on that.

Twilight Princess is absolutely a product of its time and probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't made in the mid 2000s (aka super edgy cultural period).

Peak Link design was pre-ooT when he had that big button nose. I want that Link design back. And all of those Link universe AUs are so cowardly to not give classic Link the big nose. COWARDS, I SAY!

💕 Who’s your biggest Zelda crush(es)?

Okay but funnily enough I don't have a lot of crushes for Zelda characters. Even as a kid, I didn't really care for a lot of characters people typically tend to crush on.

Well, except this one...

💘 Favorite Zelda ship(s)?

So I'm not a huge shipper and there's not one in the Zelda series I'd say is my favorite. But when I was a kid that was Link and Midna. It was mainly because of my crush on Midna, I absolutely self-inserted myself as Link.

I want to mention this because I have a sister and she was a huge Zelink shipper when she was a kid. We got into a lot of petty fights and it got to the point we were "fighting" through fanart. It was some really dumb kid shit.

🥰 What character do you most ship with Link? (Malon, Revali, Sidon, Zelda, etc.)

Again, not really a shipper and I don't particularly care that much about Link anyhow? If I had to pick it would be with Zelda, but only really their BOTW/TOTK iterations.

A good runner up would be him and Revali because people do interesting things with their relationship and dynamic.

🎮 Favorite Zelda game?

That goes to Majora's Mask, hands down. There's so much I love about the game that I feel holds up great even 20+ years later. If I actually go into depth about why I love this game it'll be an essay. The visual design, the story, how it excellently tackles themes of grief and trauma, the music, how alive the NPCs feel... there's too many to list. Not to mention it's a great sequel game to OoT (and in my opinion, surpasses it in a lot of ways). I believe it's the best Zelda sequel (with A Link Between Worlds being a very close second).

👾 Least Favorite Zelda game?

I've played most of the mainline Zelda games at this point. I haven't finished a lot of them, but I think I can confidently say this goes to the original Legend of Zelda. I don't want to be too hard on it because it's nearly forty years old, but the controls make it so frustrating to deal with. It's bad I am having a lot more fun with Adventures of Link, a game notorious for its difficulty, because this hasn't been a huge issue for me. Also, not having a clear overworld map made navigation incredibly annoying. I 100%'d the game (as well as Second Quest) and I don't think I will ever pick it up again.

😔 Least Favorite Zelda character?

Lana and Cia. I don't hate them per say and I recognize they are for fan service, but the game makes them way more important than it allows them to be. The two are barely characters: their defining trait is their love for Link and that's it. At least Cia has some semblance of agency, but it's nothing that justifies giving them so much focus. The whole two halves aspect could have been way more interesting if they didn't do the light good, dark bad trope (and that's not even mentioning the bad racial implication they did with Cia). And don't get me started on the epilogue and the game's attempt at redeeming Cia despite the fact there's nothing that warrants it.

💣 Favorite Zelda Item/Weapon?

Item wise? The spinner from Twilight Princess. My memory of that game is hazy, but I remember having so much fun with it (especially for the Stallord fight). It's equally fun in Hyrule Warriors too!

Weapon? That goes to the flamespears in Breath of the Wild, solely for the fact that they're aesthetically so pretty. I wish they were brought back in Tears of the Kingdaom (I mean I know why they weren't but I miss them).
