Do you think Cartman had romantic feelings for Heidi before the ending of The Damned? Do you think it was purely platonic untill that point?

I don't think he had romantic feelings for her, I think the egg project is just what got him to see her as a person and not just Random Girl Number 7. A foot in the door kind of moment. It's hard to work together on a project without having any meaningful conversations, so they must have found some common ground during the whole thing. Said common ground making it easier for Eric to suggest that Heidi get an A while he gets an F (which gets them both a C). It's also much more difficult for me to imagine him bartering for Wendy or Bebe to get an A, rather than just laughing at them for failing for once.

(He also just would have indifferently shown one of the other girls that broken egg like "Fix it somehow or we both fail.")

I think the "wow I think I LIKE this girl" only came after she reached out to him when he had nothing and no one believed in him. It also helps that Eric was actively trying to change in season 20 before his snapback at the end too.

I feel like nobody likes him but Kyle is the only one who thinks he can possibly get better at all.

I agree on some level with that last statement. Due to Kyle's morals and complicated attachment to Cartman, he would be the only one willing to nurture the potential Cartman has, though I'd say Cartman isn't universally hated as one would assume. I think Kenny and Cartman's friendship deepened off screen since s9. It shows itself strongly in the covid specials and post-covid (not post covid the special, I mean like.. after the actual irl covid and.. ARGH mattrey u make my life so difficult)     

      Kenny was the one to approach Cartman about the fragility of the broship and inspires Cartman to be the one to make sure the gang stays together. That's a level of openness and vulnerability that frankly, I haven't seen him share with Stan or Kyle. Quite the opposite in fact-- When Kenny finally admits he's immortal, Stan and Kyle dismiss him in their own way. Neither have made the move to sympathize with him since, especially at the level Cartman does in the covid episodes. Now, Cartman's "sympathetic" method of coddling Kenny wasn't the best thing to do I'd say, the show was clear  Stan, Kyle and Cartman weren’t handling the broship fallout well, but Cartman definitely proved himself as the “best friend” the show has claimed he’s been in prioritizing Kenny during Covid. We even get a verbal reminder from Cartman and Kyle in Post-Covid that despite it being the literal worst future for everyone, Cartman and Kenny’s friendship thrived. With the opposite lives they lead, it's astounding they remained best friends for forty years.

That level of loyalty is kicking Stan and Kyle in the dirt and laughing rn. Look at Dikinbaus! Cartman and Kenny had a blast “planning the business” (ie living it up as owners and mutually taking advantage of Butters to just pal around) and Cartman once again concedes to Kenny when he lets him work from home. It’s a gag first and foremost, but still, I think it works as part of character analysis lolol. I’m analyzing this a lot from Cartman’s perspective, or at least his actions, but I don’t rlly have much to go by on Kenny’s end and I hope y’all can see why lol. excluding the Mysterion arc and the s22 Halloween episode, he’s a passive character. things rly just are happening to this dude. 

Cartman's attachment to Kenny has grown exponentially since the early seasons ("I hate yew guys/ specially kinny/ ah hate em the most/") whereas we've heard directly from Kenny what he thought of Cartman at the time s9 was written but we don't really know what he thinks of Cartman presently. Now, mattrey have written Kenny's quietness and frequent disappearances as part of the charm of his character--the mysteriousness with a pinch of hidden sadness, maybe a dash of loneliness--and not like, a serious writing pitfall of not knowing what to do with one of your main characters, not giving them the chance to let the audience see their motivations. So the uncertainty surrounding Kenny's true opinions, in this case of his friendship with Cartman, isn't by accident. I'd say it's fair to assume Kenny now views Cartman as a best friend, given how much Cartman has done for him.

What's your favorite Heiman moment? And do you like them more in season 20 or season 21, and why?

My favorite Heiman moment... I actually have two.

The first one is when Eric and the rest of the boys are in the school bathroom, listening to the voice messages Erid had sent to Heidi.

It's the voice messages themselves that I actually love. I love how broken and desperate Eric makes himself sound.

It's in this scene where it's revealed that Eric was the one who threatened to kill himself over a potential breakup (not Heidi, like Eric had claimed in a previous scene), which just showcases how easily he misinformed the other boys about what was going on - and possibly how warped his view of the situation is. (Of course, he'd too proud to admit he was begging Heidi not to leave him.)

Plus, Kyle's "You sound like a dying pig!" cracks me up every time.

The second is when Eric calls Heidi at night all panicked.

"You called me a wh*re and pushed me in front of a car".

I don't know what to say, I just love this so much. That boy is so toxic, and yet Heidi still wants to believe that he wants to change, that he's telling her the truth. She just wants to see the good in him - or tries to anyway. It's a perfect scene.

It's really impressive seeing to what lengths Eric will go to to keep her around and what lies he can tell in a heartbeat. (Even though deep down he believes at least some of it.)

Also, Eric's wailing in both scenes is so cute that I can't help myself.

I like them both in season 20 and in season 21, but for different reasons in each season.

In season 20 because if you don't know what comes next they seem so sweet and such a nice couple, while at the same time it's so cute seeing Eric being genuinely interested in her for a while. You can almost believe that Eric has changed because he found love. Almost.

In season 21 because ultimately Eric can't help but start showing his true colors, and we get to see what will inevitably happen in possibly every romantic relationship that he gets in the future. It might sound a tad morbid, but it's just so fascinating to watch Eric being unable to let go of the relationship at the beginning of the season, then watch Eric's attitude towards Heidi change as he grows bored of her and finally devise plans to get rid of her, going as far as to try and kill her.

Did I forgot to mention that most of the South Park Fans that think they're accepting and respecting people when they're actually toxic also: Calls anyone a Wendy Simp whenever they talk about or even mention something even remotely positive and/or defensive of Wendy, criticize Trey and Matt for their mistreatment on the girls while portraying the girls in a negative light for daring to date one of their ships, criticize Wendy for doing horrible things even though almost everyone has done their share of horrible things (many of their actions being far worse than what she's done), clearly wants Scott and Sophie to be together despite the fact that they have only one thing in common and Scott was treating Sophie as if she was a prize to be obtained (no hate towards the shippers, just their ship) and even acts like it's Wendy's own fault that Cartman is bullying her even though she has done very little to warrant his constant harassment towards her, which (in my opinion) comes off as victimblaming.

Defending Wendy from unwarranted Wendy hate doesn’t make one a “Wendy simp.” It’s basically pointing out facts. And no, she doesn’t abuse Stan! Stop with that shit. Stan isn’t abusive either, but technically he’s more flawed in his relationship with Wendy than she is. He asked Wendy for a photoshopped image of her, and used ChatGPT to text her. If you want a more toxic ship, what about Suddam/Satan? Mr. Garrison/Mr. Slave? Heiman? I’d even mention Clybe, but it’s more tame than the other mentioned ships minus Stendy. Also, the fact that people are bashing Wendy for being an average 10 year old, as well as parading Kyle for being opinionated yet demonising Wendy for being opinionated too, is way beyond me. People need to realise that Kyle and Wendy are similar in terms of personality, as well as their respective relationships with Stan and Cartman.

And in relation to Scott and Sophie, Scott basically put Sophie on a pedestal simply because she has diabetes. However, I thought the way she reached out to him at the end of Basic Cable was cute, so I sorta ship Scottphie despite its flaws.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

That Cartman has stuffed animals! Though I hate him as a person (but love him as a character), the scene where he had a tea party, and the other where he played toys with Bebe... all strangely endearing.

I'd also say that he is canonically good at singing/rapping. Let's be honest, his rap in 'Put it Down' went hard.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Total Drama series. There is no real reason for this other than I'd pay good money to see how Cartman interacts with Chris, Heather and Alejandro lmao. He would also do a great job at scheming his way to the million dollars.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

'Poker Face', by Lady Gaga haha.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Just our love for cats and stuffed animals, that's all. :)

I have no idea if this counts, but it's one-sided Kyman from Cartman's side. I stress on the "one-sided" part, because I genuinely can't see Kyle reciprocating at all, and mutual Kyman simply does not spark joy for me. Whenever I come across untagged Kyman in fics, I immediately leave lmao.

Kyle and Cartman is my second favourite dynamic to watch on screen (after Stan and Kyle), not only because their rivalry is funny af, but there's just something so fascinating about Cartman's fucked up obsession with Kyle... and not in the "man this is so cute!!" way, but in the "wow what the fuck is wrong with you. I wanna study you under a microscope" way.

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

Apart from the obvious illegal ships, it's a tie between Heiman (for obvious reasons) and the flavour of Kyman where Kyle reciprocates. I'm also not a big fan of Candy either, though I'll admit that their battle interactions in TFBW made me laugh hard.

17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?

Although it's a ship I'll never seek out in fanart/fics, probably Kenman. Not something I feel particularly strong about, but if they're a side ship in a fic then I'm cool with it.

Glee Rewatch 1x09, Becky's here!

Hey, things are going fine between Finn and Quinn! They both have an open top. Well, they aren't downright fighting. I think Quinn's a bit harsh in this scene but I also understand her point of view. She's a pregnant teenager who's trying to maintain her reputation, and her boyfriend doesn't seem to grasp the difficulty of the situation. Naturally, she's also lying to said boyfriend about him being the father (and Puck seems much more used to making money) and she can't do cheerleading anymore. She's stressed af! But Finn didn't exactly ask for all of that either.

(Are you confused? Here's an explanation!)

Mercedes's pendant is intriguing. I love the hot pink, and it fits fine with the black and the white, but does anyone have an idea of what it means?

I think it may be the first instance of Brittany saying something and everyone else instantly judging her (Matt should stick with her though, they're both part of the "I have very few lines" team... at least until Brittany slowly becomes part of the main cast).

I'll admit it: I'm not fond of Artie. His character has nice (or at least, well-meaning) moments but he never really evolves, or is given much to do aside from specific times. I'm also not fond of his voice but that's obviously incredibly subjective--and I do like it in some songs, like for example in Let's Stay a While. However I do appreciate his underlying anger at the world, it's something that I recognize in myself.

Also wow the Artina vibes are there pretty early. Still not a fan.

Kurt what is this. What is this? At least Matt's there to talk (!!!) and comfort him.

That's Jesse Heiman! He's an extra who's in a lot of things. I know him from Chuck where he appeared quite regularly but he's basically the most prolific extra ever. I was delighted to see him in Glee. Once you start recognizing the guy, you'll see him everywhere!

Will is actually a good teacher in this instance. To those kids, he's just a Spanish and a Glee Club teacher, but he's also one of the main educators for those kids. Making them empathize with Artie is a good thing.

Puck actually made Quinn laugh! I can... I can get behind this. I can get behind them being together after the show. I'm surprised they have so much chemistry. (Also props to the French dub in this scene, it's usually good but here's it's great thanks to the use of "Tu fais chier", approximatevely "Fuck you" in a way that people Quinn's age would absolutely say at the time. It feels real. It feels accurate in a way I've rarely seen!)

Actually the French dub is incredible in this episode (and that's something I remember thinking on my first viewing too!). When Kurt says "I'm full of ennui", he says in French "Je suis dans un spleen baudelairien" which is accurate, dramatic af and perfectly adapted because using "ennui" here wouldn't be reflective of that fact that Kurt has fancy expressions... just like me... It's not a surprise that I recognized a lot of myself in Kurt.

You know, season 1 (at least, 1A) really feels like each episode tries to bring something new. You had the Acafellas episode, you had the slushie POV episode, the Single Ladies episode... they each have their own identity and personality, whereas I believe the show became more complex--and thus, more homogenous later on because they no longer had the time to experiment.

As usual I love Rachel's wardrobe.

First appearance of Becky! Another controversial character (but then again, who isn't?). I love her. And I think it's also Lauren Zizes's first episode? I love her too.

Becky and Sue's bond has always been something I loved (and their last scene together in the show is heartwarming!). Is the way people with Down syndrome are used to humanize Sue... not great? Absolutely! I still love Becky and Jean, however. The show isn't perfect, we all know it, so I don't see much point in talking about that kind of stuff in this rewatch since everything has already been said.

Finn and Puck are pretty much boyfriends in this episode (and throughout the show). Why do you, as a man, seek to touch another man this much? Methinks there's something fruity going on here.

The juxtaposition of Kurt hitting the note and Burt answering the phone is also great! And once again, their relationship is very heartwarming.

Did you ever mention how you got into kyman? Personally speaking, I got into it (again) around 2020 when I rewatched sp, and I basically fell down the rabbit hole. I’ve been into it on and off since then.

I probably did somewhere, but I'll say it again!

I wanted to see what SP was all about so I decided to just watch the most recent episode/special at the time-- post covid. But I realized, it was a story that wasn't forgiving for newcomers, and I had NO idea who was who. I have vivid memories of being weirded out by the redhead guy being upset about the rabbi dude's wife and kids. Then when he said "did you know that he once snuck into my room and gave me fucking aids?!" I GASPED bc one, it was super out of nowhere, super crude, and two, I falsely assumed like, OHHHHH they're gay exes... that explains this weird behavior. I'm sorry what else was my dumb ass supposed to assume! And I watched the rest of the special viewing them in that context hgkd But when I started to properly watch the show from the beginning/ hop between episodes, I felt embarrassed for myself, I was like HOW on earth could I have made that false assumption. I was actually grossed out by the thought of kyman at the start! I knew that Cartman was obsessed with Kyle, and that they did care for each other as friends, but I couldn't fathom Cartman's obsession being anything genuine or Kyle reciprocating. I even made a post abt it on my main as I was watching the show, it might still be in there somewhere lol. I was happy just watching the show as is and I was like, dang! This might be the first thing I get into without shipping anyone! Then, my buddy @shpadoinkle-day texted me what was practically the kyman manifesto and urged me to "wait till seasons 20/21, it'll change everything"

at the same time, an irl buddy watched THAT moment in Manbearpig w/ me for the first time and went "that's... kinda fruity" and I was also like?? yeah?? damn... Then I saw seasons 20/21 and it opened up my eyes. I think it was the only seasons I was so enthralled with to completely binge in one night ghfksd and I. was. floored. Kyle crying over cartman? during a montage of couples breaking up? Kyle being speechless when he saw cartman get a gf? Kyle questioning if he liked heidi, Kyle's stupid ass "we're all going out with Cartman right now", how he inserted himself in the relationship so hard, yet when taking heidi from cartman, talks as if he wasn't doing it for Heidi. His frustration at Heiman was at the very top in list of justification at bombing a country (yes, Kyle says he's upset a girl he liked turned into cartman... but there's layers in that statement, esp. compared to kyle's actions). Kyle memorizing the day they got together, confronting Heidi and asking how Cartman is doing as a boyfriend, what specifically she finds about him that's redeemable (and we all know how Kyle is about finding the good in people), batshit insane things a normal person (like stan) wouldn't ask his friend's girlfriend. And then of course, Kyle dropping all that effort when they break up. Insanity. I realized the obsession was mutual, and rewatching the show in that context completely rerouted my watching experience with the show. It kinda made it funnier for me too lolol. I started picking up on all the evidence I saw shippers point at, and I got what they meant fr. Kyle and Cartman are assholes and poke at each other's insecurities, have hurt each other, yet will not let the other die, Kyle is usually the first one to call for cartman if something happens to him, he saves him when he doesn't deserve it, and Cartman, as stated by Stan, cannot live without him. And it's subtly shown he wouldn't keep kyle just to rag on, bc if that were the case, he would not hesitate to hold it over Kyle's head. Their feelings for each other are very complex, and--if you really pay attention to the show--mutual.

Heiman:

When they're about 25, Eric and Heidi meet again. Heidi is a successful journalist, while Eric is a college dropout who's currently unemployed and on the verge of being homeless. So he latches on to Heidi, starts a relationship with her, tries to make her love him and eventually marry him, so he can stand on his feet again.

Eric x Yentl:

This could take place when the kids have their canon ages.

There is a new girl in town. The moment Eric learns she happens to be Jewish he starts bullying her endlessly like he does with Kyle. Yet he feels weird because unlike Kyle, Yentl does not always fight back and she is not competitive against him. And he also can't shake off the odd feeling that, even though he's never seen her before, he knows Yentl from somewhere...

Candy:

This one is a bit silly but I think that it has the potential to be kinda funny. It could take place when the kids are in high school.

Eric sort of has a crush on Wendy but he can't approach her because a) she hates him and b) he's scared to truly admit it to himself and to the others. So he pretends to be a trans girl so he can have Wendy's empathy and attention. Eventually it works and he and Wendy get closer. She invites him at her house every now and then and one of those times Eric tries to put the moves on her. But Wendy realizes his plan, punches him and kicks him out.

This could maybe take place when they're in their thirties.

Eric is married to a woman (could either be an existing character or an OC) but he is cheating on her with Butters. Butters feels awful because he doesn't want to be the third person but he really cares about Eric and he can't stop seeing him. He is also deeply hurt because he knows that even if Eric divorced her, he would never make their own relationship public.

Poor Butters is suffering a lot in this one xD

1: What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

There's no one ship that I would say I hate, but I do have some that I don't care for more than others: Dip (I'm not fond of either of the characters and I don't like the dynamic), Heiman (obvious reasons), Kydi (too much to get into in an ask - I wouldn't be so opposed to it if the events of s21 hadn't happened, though), aaand maybe more, but none are coming to me right now.

Style. I just can't get into it as a romantic pairing, but I do love their friendship! I'm not a shipper, so this question can just be about any popular ship that isn't already canon, but Style came to my mind first.

I feel a little bit bad when some people consider CartmanXHeidi a proship because while I understand where they're coming from I don't think shippers like you have any bad intent or think abuse is romantic. I completely understand how cute they were at the begging so I don't think all Cartman/Heidi shippers are the same. It's not as inherently harmful as the straight up incest ships. I think the only reason I got nervous about Cartman Heidi shippers is because I found people shipping Cartman with his brother in the tags along with talking about Heidi and Cartman and it scared me away from the ship for awhile unfortunately. I don't think I personally have an issue with the ship per say I just personally don't ship Cartman with any girl because in my head he's gay lol, but you keep doing what you do.

So this is my focus word of this year – “Simple“.

I remember a conversation with Bob Miller the co-founder of Miller Heiman Group where we were discussing a deal with a large industrial organization and their brief to us outlined a very complex sales structure. Even when we went into details of understanding their seller KPIs and incentive structure it was really complicated. Bob said, they have complicated their life too much for their own good. “Complex is easy, simple is tough !” This stuck with me and I constantly keep looking out for this.

As I look around me I realize we are continuously investing in making our lives complex. We invest in Technology to reduce time and effort and then bring in other related technologies to support that one technology and then sometimes we land up in this web where we loose the value of the original solution.

We have aggressive audacious goals and in the attempt to deliver on all of them we gather all the resources and create complex project deliverables. After a while people lose the sizzle and projects get abandoned and this adds to the complexity. Then we hire consulting firms for Simplification projects !

I see Sellers fall into this trap, we understand the client’s needs and in our attempt to create a comprehensive proposal we often make a complex project. Then we are stuck either with the client not buying it or if they do buy then delivery is a challenge.

A friend recently introduced me to a concept (the advantage of intelligent friends!) called the Occam’s razor. Occam’s razor (mental model) can be summarized as follows: Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected. In simpler language, Occam’s razor states that the simplest explanation is preferable to one that is more complex. Simple theories are easier to verify. Simple solutions are easier to execute.

So, my goal this year is to consciously break down complexity and focus on the Simple. I know Simple is not easy but it is required. I have identified 3 things that I feel are important for attempting to keep things Simple –

Ask questions to get to the core. Allow the child state of mind to take over and satiate your curiosity. Ask all the questions you need to till you understand the core of the problem. Like Simon Sinek says use the 5 Whys. To make it simple you need to understand it well.

Articulate your understanding and get feedback. Always get feedback and be open to changing your opinion/ project/solution. I understand there is a fear sometimes to feel what if my opinion/project/solution may get rejected, but if it has to get rejected it will anyways with or without an opportunity to seek feedback.

Final one for me, is to remember to Own the outcome and not the idea! There can be many paths to a destination and being open to feedback and learning from others allows you to seek alternatives. You can then pick the Simplest one, cause remember simple solutions are easy to execute.

There is surprise that flickers in his eyes at this realization, and he leans forward a little eagerly, wanting to confirm this thought.

He is interested what the man may have to say, in response.
