Nathan was born in Long Beach, California but didn't stay there for long. His father's job moved them around all throughout his childhood and he never stayed in the same place for more than five years. the oldest of two children had in a desperate bid to save a failing marriage.

were one to view the earliest of carson's years from an outside lens, there'd probably be cause for concern. the family was in a constant state of flux and motion: moving from place to place, never settling down, never establishing a sense of home or normalcy. had his parents not been as good as they were at shielding their kids from the chaos that was their life, things would have been a lot worse.

in carson's eyes, though, it was all a blast. he's always been an adventurous, outgoing, and optimistic guy, so new places just meant new friends to make and new things to do. being the eternal "new kid" at school during his elementary years never really bothered him either. even if it was only for a fleeting moment, he had a way of worming into the hearts of the people around him. in fact, he still keeps in touch with a good chunk of them.

after his parents finally decided to call it quits when he was 9, he stuck with his mom and sister, and the three officially settled down in ashmore a year later.

his mom remarried when he was 19, introducing a stepfather and his kids into their family.

to be entirely honest, it was hard acclimating to being in one place for an extended period of time. carson left pieces of himself on the open road and every place he lived before, and that's made it hard to really, fully, 100% settle into ashmore the way his sister and mother have.

that being said, he did start a band when he was 14 ! the flip side is a passion born from the love of music he inherited from his mother and the wanderlust he inherited from his father. while the local fame they've garnered recently doesn't really interest him, he's intrigued by the idea of potentially expanding a little bit outward. at least to other places in oregon. mostly he just wants an excuse to roadtrip with his friends.

while the band is his passion, it doesn't really pay the bills. in fact, it sort of does the opposite. to counteract this, carson became the king of the odd job. he's walked dogs, mowed lawns, delivered pizza, newspapers, and everything in-between. he's worked classic jobs too, like at the tackle shop, gas station, arcade, and as a barista and waiter. unfortunately, he's got an issue with maintaining these jobs. not because he's a bad worker ( well... debatable ), but mostly because he gets bored and has a tendency to leave for... not necessarily greener, but newer pastures.

at present, he's working as a cashier at the grocery store. it's okay. he likes that he gets to interact with people a lot, but the paycheck definitely leaves something to be desired. he doesn't really think about that part too much though, much to his friends and sister's chagrin.

sometimes he'll help his sister with her wedding planner business. not in any huge or meaningful way, but he'll help get supplies and set up venues. it's not really his thing, but he likes helping out where he can. again: he's the king of the odd job.

he does not have a college degree. beyond the social aspect, he didn't really like the structure of school ( #justadhdthings ), so he just didn't go back after squeaking through high school.

Oz came into the world silent as the grave - so quiet that his parents thought something was wrong with him. A middle child of five, Oz was the odd one out - he was just a little different. His siblings were loud and outgoing, and Oz was a quieter instigator.

His parents just thought he was socially awkward and didn’t ‘get it’. But Oz did- he was incredibly intelligent, quick as a whip. Perhaps he didn’t prefer to start the conversation - but he knew how to end it. He seemed to just prefer a little bit of anarchy- but his smarts were never in question. He studied multiple sciences at an Advanced level in high school and majoring in bio-chem in college, going on to get his graduate degree as well. Through it all, he had supportive parents, siblings who cheered him on and went about their lives, and an occasional distant friend or roommate.

And yet, Oz found himself craving something more adventurous. It started with little ways he could get a thrill. He looked so upright, so perfectly unassuming. The quiet little man never seemed like a threat, which was perfect for getting into trouble. While working at a national lab in New York, he found himself pocketing important chemicals and extra medication - skimming materials off the top when he could. Machines break all the time after all, and the labs always had so much money to replace just about anything… he could sell them, see how much he could get away with.

Eventually Oz was getting in with the wrong crowd. And being a criminal didn't pay in the end. His clean, quick, and silent dealing still didn't work out- and though he never got caught by the police, he was caught by someone worse - a rival organization.

Oz was nearly killed. Suffering a lumbar spinal cord injury, Oz was stuck in the hospital for months. He had lost the use of his legs at first, and required intense rehabilitation to even walk with forearm crutches or push himself in a wheelchair. But more importantly to Oz, he didn’t feel that he could continue his old job. His hands unsteady and his body having gone through a traumatic event, Oz decided to hang up his coat of crime and move away from the shitty, dark work he'd been doing for so long.

After moving to Ashmore a few years ago, he took on a new role. His apathetic and gravelly voice seemed perfect for radio, and as a sarcastic host for a combination music-and-advice station, Oz fit in perfectly. He misses a lot about his old job- the thrill and the adrenaline rush. But he also feels guilt for the shit he's done in the past.

willow doesn't consider herself a naive person – someone who was shielded from the much more difficult parts of her own life – but she undoubtedly is. even as an adult living in her own apartment, she doesn't fully comprehend how much of her sister's life was sacrificed so she could live hers.

she's always been imaginative – so much of her free time devoted to thinking of different lives and different adventures. she used to think she wanted to be a writer – wanted to be someone who got to tell the kinds of stories that unfolded in her dreams.

Asa grew up in a small family home in a town on the outskirts of Dublin. Both parents were devoutly Catholic and the whole family walked to church multiple times a week. He worked summers helping clean up the little church-house in the valley and his father often pawned him off to ‘learn a hard day’s work’ at various places in town. Despite his father having plenty of money and working at a bank in the city, Asa was often treated like he had to provide for his family as well. He wanted to spend time with his siblings but it often fell on him to get a job first, get his sisters to school. There was immense pressure from his family at all times to be the model son.

He had always been introverted but starting in high school, he started to rebel, getting angry at his parents and lashing out at them. His father had just started a very high-profile job in the government and his 13 year old son was the least of his issues. Eventually, Asa was sent away to a home for ‘troubled teens’ and was essentially beaten into submission by orderlies and people who did not care about his wellbeing or his mental stability. He was treated like a problem, like an inmate in a prison at the age of 14 and was kept there for years due to his father’s negligence and lies. Saying after Asa came back for a short time once that he was still ‘acting up’. That they had failed and he would expose them if they didn't forge documents to send Asa off to a mental institution.

Through it all, Asa was manipulated into thinking he was the problem. That he had done so much wrong that he was being punished, and would continue to be for the rest of his life- tormented by the Devil. Because of his father's lies, he was in and out of a few psychiatric facilities, given experimental medical treatments, and treated as insane. His father was a constant terrifying presence in his life, always finding a new place to send him off to in Ireland, Wales, and London.

Asa changed the course of his fate when he fled to the U.S. After stealing his father's money, he began to formulate a court case to close down the corrupt most recent institute he had been stuck in - St. Irene's in London, that had given him permanent head trauma from the misuse of ECT. Using meticulous planning and organizing, Asa was able to craft a perfect court case to take down the mental institution, put the doctors in charge behind bars, and win a huge settlement of money.

All the while he worked for a sweet little old lady who ran a large library in Ashmore. He'd been taken in to organize- a quiet and sometimes (unintentionally) unsettling man who had trouble finding any sort of job, given some grace. As she prepared to retire, she let Asa take more control of the library, going from just putting books away to planning library events, running the social media, handling all computer systems, and talking to customers.

Now Asa is the Head Librarian at Ashmore. A weird little man covered in tattoos who some find a little offputting and others weirdly charming. Asa cares about his employees and cares about his job-he's an artist in his free time and has a little historical home in Old Ashmore where he takes care of 5 cats.

The Ricci family has been in Ashmore for five generations now. The Riccis have owned and operated Ricci & Sons funeral home for as long as the family has been in Ashmore though their ties to the mortuary industry date back to their ancestors in Italy. For as long as anyone can remember the Ricci family has been synonymous with death. Without any doubt, Eamon knew he would follow in the family business and began working as a mortician as soon as he was certified.

Eamon still lives at home with his parents above the funeral home. It's most practical given his line of work and he is usually the one on call at night for any mortuary services that might pop up in the middle of the night.

Growing up Eamon was always an outsider. Most people were quick to judge the reserved kid whose parents dealt with dead bodies all day. He was labeled creepy early on in life and never really outgrew the title. It's true that he loves the macabre and embraced the title more than tried to outgrow it. He flourished most when he went off to mortuary school because he was around like minded individuals and some of his best friends were made by learning his trade. Most of his friends don't live in Ashmore but he keeps in contact with them via text quite frequently.

Eamon is quite a cautious person. He's seen all the stupid ways people have died and his goal is to make it to old age.

Eamon has an older sister in her 30s who decided she wanted to save lives instead of helping the dead and became a doctor. Despite living in the same town their whole lives due to the age gap he and his sister aren't very close and he only ever sees her during the holidays and family gatherings.

Eamon is a terrible cook. He could burn cereal if that was possible. He's completely spoiled by his mother's cooking every night and never learned the skill.

Eamon is quite crafty. He knows how to both crochet and knit and has been known to give a homemade present every now and then. He's currently working on a blanket for his grandmother who no longer can crochet herself.
