After the first time Asher and Gar bent Barl’s Second Law by giving in to their mutual attraction, they've carried on without speaking of it, maintaining their friendship and working relationship with no changes between them.

Except, well, every few weeks the dam bursts and they find themselves here yet again, pushing the boundaries of the Law they're meant to uphold.

These chronological vignettes take place between Part I and Part II in The Innocent Mage. See author's note for additional context to aid readers unfamiliar with the source material.

This chapter is titled On The Road. A brief summary-

On the long journey back to Dorana, Gar wants to make up for his "unprincely" reaction to Asher’s (now thwarted) plans to leave. When they come upon a hot spring on a wooded path at midday, he gets an opportunity to take away some of Asher’s pain.

At this point in the book they're both so beat up, physically and emotionally, it's very cathartic to give them this little reprieve.
