3, 5, 25. Sorry to hear about your allergies. I understand, as someone who's currently suffering from hay fever. Hey at least spring is in the air!
3) what order do you write in? front of book to back? chronological? favorite scenes first? something else?
I... would like to say that my writing style makes any type of sense, but that would be an unfortunate lie. :P
As OtSttCA’s written now, it’s chronological in terms of how I set up the chapters, but the various scenes I have within those chapters never occur chronologically. I could have something that could wind up in the next chapter or two, but then I’ll end up with another idea an hour later for a scene that probably won’t even take place until toward the very end of the story. I basically just cherry-pick which ones just seem to fit well together. Lol.
5) character you were most surprised to end up writing
That would probably be Sera. Lol.
For those whom don’t know, English is my second language, so the first time I encountered Sera, I found it difficult to properly understand her even with the subtitles on because her way of speaking is so distinct compared to any other companions we’ve had.
Truthfully, I let her join the Inquisition in my very first run, but I otherwise left her on the sidelines the entire time except to do her loyalty mission. When I was looking for a new party to accompany one of my other Inquisitors, I took her along, and I managed to really enjoy her company. Major kudos to Sera’s VA for bringing her to life and making her such a memorable character!
Honestly, when I first started writing OtSttCA, I wasn’t entirely certain that I could do Sera justice, but since she’s definitely one of Niamh’s friends, I felt I at least had to try. There’s a sort of chaotic playfulness to her, and I try to play to that sense whenever I focus on her perspective. Hopefully, I’ve done so convincingly. :P
25) copy/paste a few sentences or a short paragraph that you’re particularly proud of
How about I spoil you with a future OtSttCA scene instead? :) I quite like the dialogue I wrote here between Leliana and Morrigan.
---
“You assumed as much as that old woman did.”
“Wynne?” Leliana questioned, watching as Morrigan placed her tome on the bench next to her, likely realizing the conversation between them was one that required her complete attention.
“Yes. She mistook our relationship to be more than what it was. She said I...” A dark head canted somewhat, likely recalling an older memory. “...smiled more when it came to Niamh, and that was—is—true. I have always valued my friendship with her even when I told her that I would not always prove worthy of it. It became truth when I left you all to that final battle alone. While I was not as close to Saoirse as I was to Niamh, I grew to greatly respect her as a leader. I did not wish to see her die when something could be done to prevent it, but when she refused...”
Morrigan merely allowed her words to trail off with an almost soundless sigh, and Leliana found that she finally had an answer to an older mystery that had plagued her for years. Following Saoirse’s death, a bitter part of her had believed Morrigan had left to suit her own needs. A matter of survival. She hadn’t even considered the notion that Morrigan had played a part in trying to save Saoirse, only leaving when her offer had been rebuffed.
“Alas, I did not think Niamh would venture off alone after that,” Morrigan admitted, “and by the time I thought to look for her, she had already scattered every trace of herself to the winds. Yet, despite it all, she honors me more than I can say that she would allow our friendship to continue again when we were so long apart from one another.”
“And?” Leliana pressed, but the response she received was brief, airy laughter accompanied by amusement that tinged the deep violet of the other woman’s lips as they lifted up into an almost imperceptible smile.
“‘Tis truly just friendship, Leliana, but perhaps in another life, another time...” Slim shoulders shrugged themselves. “In this one, however, she has always wanted you. Niamh is in love with you to a degree that anyone would be envious of, but she lives in a world that constantly undervalues her, and ‘tis cruel enough to never let her forget that fact. Is it truly any wonder she feels so unworthy of you?”
Leliana’s brows rose. “Surely, she can’t believe that.”
“Are you so certain? Even from her late mentor, she was taught duty superseded all else; thus, she learned she had to sacrifice her personal desires for the sake of others. She is not like you and I, where we can freely commit misdeeds in the dark for the sake of the greater good. As powerful as she is, she is still as tied to her honor as Saoirse was. She will not consider stealing you away from even a memory of her sister, and so she will not ask you to ever consider this for her sake, Leliana. She would never be so selfish as to demand that you give up your ambitions for her. Thus, if a turning point is to be made, it must be initiated by you.”

🖊 Since Niamh is already taken. How about the time Saoirse first met Leliana? Or any interaction between them if its ok with you.
Lol! You can always ask about Niamh even if someone else has already asked about her. She is my main OC after all. ;D Since you asked about Saoirse though, here’s how their first meeting went!
By the time she meets Leliana, Saoirse is honestly running on very little patience.
Her family’s been murdered.
She doesn’t know if Niamh’s still alive in the Tower or if Howe’s men have somehow gotten to her there.
She learns that the Battle of Ostagar was lost.
And now she—along with every Grey Warden still alive—is basically a wanted criminal by the man who not only betrayed their king but has also taken control over Ferelden.
When she and her party are accosted by Loghain’s men, Saoirse’s well-prepared to fight her way out of it by any means necessary, but she doesn’t expect the sweet, accented voice coming to her defense. She had seen the lay sister standing along the wall, idly listening to the singing bard in the corner while other down-on-their-luck souls try to drown themselves in drink amidst the decaying state of the world. She’s beautiful—of that, there is no doubt. Her hair stands apart like a beacon in the night amidst a sea of dark or fair-haired patrons, and, Maker, her eyes...
Tired as she is, and caught between her increasingly-interesting observation, Saoirse’s barely following along the line of conversation taking place before her. When the leader of the opposing group demands that the sister be killed along with anyone caught trying to defend Saoirse and her companions, well...
The man’s piss-poor attempt at retribution or no, it’s not something she can very well abide, especially if innocents are to be caught in the middle.
She doesn’t expect the sister to take arms alongside her, pulling out a dagger hidden within her voluminous robes before meeting their enemies head on. The woman doesn’t fight so much as dance beneath multiple swinging blades. The swords should have given their opponents the advantage over her with their longer reach, but the woman is so fast that she succeeds in using their momentum against them, ducking vicious strikes swung with such force that they can’t easily be corrected. Before they can even attempt to readjust themselves, the sister is already well within arm’s reach, and with a few pointed slashes, she incapacitates as many opponents as Saoirse and the rest of her party does.
By the time Loghain’s men are all dealt with, it’s not even a question of whether or not she’ll allow the woman to accompany them—strange visions or no.
Granted, it isn’t immediately a popular decision.
“Wait, what?” Alistair protests. “Are you serious?! You can’t possibly tell me there isn’t something strange about the fact a chantry sister can just use a blade like that! I mean, look at this!” He gestures vaguely to the various unconscious bodies all around them.
“Well, to be fair, it’s not like I was always a Grey Warden before all this either.” She arches a brow pointedly at him. “Nor were you for that matter,” she deadpans, and she’s half-amused when he winces, rubbing the back of his neck with a faint blush.
“Ah. Okay. You have a point,” he admits sheepishly while Morrigan quietly snorts in the background.
“Wonderful.” Saoirse turns to their newest companion—the woman who calls herself Leliana—and smiles although she’s certain it’s little more than a grimace at this point after so many sleepless nights. “Please do grab whatever essentials you need and meet us at the edge of the village.”
If her heart flutters at the sight of the beaming smile her words bring, well... No one needs to know about it.

Hallo hallo. I wanted to ask you about Blackwall and Niahm's interactions, was she ever suspicious of blackwall? She travelled with her sister and Alistair, has it occured to her that blackwall might have been faking it?
Also loving the new Bethany/Niahm AUs. Just generally gushing on your work. I'll be on my way now, just dropping by to let you know how awesome you are.
Oh, hey! It’s you again! :D Welcome back!
Well, per Niamh’s canon Inquisition run, Blackwall was originally a part of her main party along with Dorian and Cole up until they reached Skyhold, so that’s a period of roughly... 4-6 months where she got to know him. I tend to headcanon the event’s of the game take up close to two years minimum to complete and the election of Divine Victoria takes place toward the very end of 9:42 Dragon.
Niamh’s not a Warden, of course, so she can’t sense that he doesn’t have the tainted blood so typical of them from the Joining. Upon their first meeting, she thought well of him. Blackwall was willing to help people despite the absolute chaos of the world around them, and so she respected that. However, it’s perhaps a bit of her own fondness toward the Order (due to both her sister and Alistair having been a part of it) that she doesn’t immediately sense that something seems off about his story regarding his whereabouts during the Blight and afterward.
I’ll go ahead and spoil you a bit and say that she she doesn’t suspect him until they get to the Winter Palace. There’s a bit of conversation you can eavesdrop on, where a drunken noble is talking to Blackwall and says that he knows him but can’t recall exactly how or when. Although Blackwall responds that he’s simply a Grey Warden, the noble is convinced that he recognized him elsewhere once upon a time but wanders off to get more wine all the same.
Following that, Niamh idly questions him about his thoughts regarding their evening so far and what must be done to secure Orlais’ future, and then she casually works in a question of how he received his Silverite Wings of Valor. Let’s just say more than a few alarm bells go off when he’s being especially evasive about any details regarding it.
As the events of the Winter Palace canonically occur for her after Adamant Fortress, she’s not exceedingly fond of the Grey Wardens right now because she feels they desecrated her sister’s memory with their actions. That she might have been lied to all that time by someone claiming to be a part of their Order doesn’t sit well with her either, so she waits to see if he might come clean about it, but when he doesn’t, her doubt swirls.
She ends up going to Leliana about her suspicions sometime before the whole reveal about Grand Duchess Florianne.
Although Leliana had also long been suspicious of Blackwall’s claims (there’s dialogue between her and an agent saying that there’s conflicting reports regarding his whereabouts during the Blight), since he and Niamh seemed to get along and wasn’t doing anything to harm/undermine her friend, she saw no reason to press further. Still, seeing how Niamh is clearly upset, Leliana promises to bait him with some information to lure him out.
...Honestly, it bothers me more than I can say that the game implied the Spymaster of the Inquisition wasn’t already aware that Blackwall was not who claimed to be and somehow managed to steal information off her desk (without her or her agents being aware of it) regarding the upcoming execution of one of his former men.
I swear, it’s like in the Mass Effect series, where everyone within Shepard’s inner circle knows that Liara is the Shadowbroker. Stop trying to imply they’re incompetent with their respective jobs, Bioware! D:<
...but I digress.
Anyway, the only reason I’m revealing this so early at all is because the scene in question is honestly such a small blip compared to everything else that occurs in the rest of that chapter. The one following immediately after that involves Blackwall’s trial, and Niamh’s not happy to say the least. :P
But, yeah, there you go. As we’ve learned in the latest chapter of OtSttCA, Niamh has more kindness within her than the world will ever give her credit for. As such, she tries to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the world has a way of casting such benevolence to the side... :’(
And I’m glad you’ve been enjoying these little AUs! They take my mind off the sadness that I have to inflict on Niamh. Lol. :P

Hello would it be alright to ask you about your OC Niamh?
1. Where did you get the inspiration to create your character?
2. How did you come up with the name Niamh and Saoirse?
3. Do you do any prep work when writing each chapter? (Listen to music, read other works to get inspired?
And I also just want to drop by and thank you for your stories.
It’s always okay to ask about my OCs! :D
1.) Where did you get the inspiration to create your character?
Niamh was honestly born out of my love for anything remotely magical in RPGs. When I first started the DA series, the first (and only as of now) origin I played with was the Cousland background, so it definitely has a special place in my heart. Canonically, you obviously can’t have a mage Cousland because any mage—regardless of noble blood—loses all titles and claims to their family’s estate the moment their magic manifests, which is why you have the Amell origin.
While I loved Saoirse, the idea of a mage Cousland was never far from my mind. I mean, it’s an intriguing concept since you’re dealing with someone who shares in the same devastating knowledge that they’re the sole survivors of their family and then is consequently made the very last of it after The Warden dies.
That’s the inspiration, but the more interesting challenge was whether or not I could feasibly work with the idea without breaking too much of in-game canon. Lol. See, the Cousland family name goes back to the Towers Age, which is six centuries before the events of Origins, and from what I read of the game wiki, there was never a mage documented within the bloodline.
What isn’t explored as thoroughly is the history of Niamh’s maternal side of the family—the Mac Eanraigs. Save for the fact that her late mother Eleanor came from an impressive line of raiders, there’s not a whole lot known about them. Compared to the Couslands, their lineage isn’t as deeply documented, so it’s entirely plausible that magic could exist somewhere within it and may have even skipped a generation or two before it reappeared in Niamh.
Needless to say, I took the idea and ran with it. :P
2.) How did you come up with the name Niamh and Saoirse?
Niamh’s and Saoirse’s names came about during my research of their mother Eleanor.
Eleanor’s father was Bann Fearchar Mac Eanraig of the Storm Coast, who was an infamous raider known as the Storm Giant. His name didn’t seem to be of English descent at first glance, and further research revealed that Fearchar as a name has seen usage in both Scottish and Irish history because they both have a shared root within their native languages. They’re part of the Goidelic family of languages that include Scottish Gaelic and Gaelic Irish (or just Irish), which came from when the Celts settled in both Scotland and Ireland.
I just happen to view Niamh’s maternal side of the family as being of more Irish descent (even though I know there isn’t an exact equivalent to it in Thedas) due to her name, which I’ve always found to be beautiful since it means “bright” or “radiant.” Saoirse’s name means “freedom” for those curious. ;)
3.) Do you do any prep work when writing each chapter? (Listen to music, read other works to get inspired?)
Oh, I’m constantly listening to music every time I write. There’s a reason why I include hyperlinks to songs (among other things) in every chapter.
I try to write a little bit each day, and whatever doesn’t fit in OtSttCA gets used as an idea for something else, which is how and why I have as many AUs as I do for Niamh and Leliana. :P
Unfortunately, because I spend a lot of my time writing, I don’t get the chance to read as leisurely as I would like, so there’s probably only a handful of fics that I follow at any given time. Typically, if I find myself invested in another author’s work, I make time to leave a kudos and a comment to show my appreciation. As a writer, I always find it amazing to see the type of individual worlds we spawn even as we work from the same source material. :)
Thanks for the questions! I’m glad you’re enjoying my work!
