Their tragedy is one of the most fascinating parts of the story imo bc of how rich and complex their dynamics are, I could read a book only about them :D

I'm gonna be honest with you chief, I have never willingly consumed anything related to Wuthering Heights ^^;. I know it's like an english classic or something, but I guess it's not that popular on my side of the globe :P, everything I know of it is from pop culture and tv parodies, so I can't comment on it either lol

Look, I'M JUST SAYING, we don't know how MY's time in Qishan went. Only that he did something that gained him WRH's approval, and not only that, but actually raised him high in the Wen sect. He got the most powerful man in the cultivation world to lower his guard around him.

NOW imagine the price tho! You don't catch WRH's eyes by being a law-abiding citizen. I don't recall if it's canon that MY was his chief torturer, but I think it's logical to assume that something like that was well within the realm of possibilities. What other "tests" MY had to go through to prove his loyalty?

As you suggested 3zun, let's pretend they managed to sort their bullshit out and they are happy together.

If we are going hurt/comfort, well, I think it's very possible that one of those tests was simply just let Sect Leader do whatever he wants to you. Anything. It's not like you can stop him, anyways. If he wants to claim you, you just comply. Imagine that looming over him now that he has a loving and stable relationship, how it could taint the way other ppl touched him, approach him even, regardless of how he wanted them to?

On the other hand, what if it was better than anyone would have guessed? After all, what was it that MY always wanted: safety, belonging, the power to live without fear. Once he raised high enough to be one of WRH's trusted men, who did he have to fear? After WX and WC were out of the picture, MY could have easily stepped in as candidate for heir as he possessed all the qualities: ambition, ruthlessness, cunning, charisma.

And if we are going the shippy route, I don't think a lot of ppl earned WRH's trust, let alone his respect. As I said, MY was already a cocktail of all the things WRH could appreciate, plus being one pretty twink. There's also the fact that, yes, MY would have had to play the evil part with him, but how much of that would actually be an act? We all know MY can harbor pretty nasty sentiments and is not above cruelty when he thinks it's warranted. WRH not only accepting his darkest side, but actually encouraging it would be much more validation than MY had ever received in all his short life.

If WRH would have planned to keep him after the war on a more personal level (*coughFurencough*), and yet MY chose the Good Guys' side, imagine the guilt and regret!

He may have the love of LXC and NMJ, but would it be enough? There could be days, especially those when the Jins are being particular assholes that he could rightfully ask himself if it all had been worth it. That yes, they "defeated the evil", but said evil offered him the world on a silver plate, what did he have now? Not his father's love, for sure; a conditional position; two sect leaders that loved him, but one who reproached his (valid) negative thoughts and emotions, and another that acted like those were not even there.

The only person to ever tell him that it was okay and fair to desire for more, that it was his right to strive for greatness was dead. He killed him. And maybe love was not enough.
