I'm physically incapable of shutting up about it because it's the first time I've been in a financial position to do so and I'm a little nervous but also really excited :')

going to chicago, a bunch of places in germany, and then washington DC for my friend's masters graduation!

a bit of a do-over from my last euro trip in 2019 (had to compromise so much with my ex that I didn't get to see the "deep cuts" sigh) and not-so-secretly a bit of a research expedition for oc writing purposes... at this point it's 70% wwii/art/science museums, 20% walking tours, and 10% gawking at old buildings, war ruins, and cemetery monuments lmao

the mood graph for this year is SO funny. when you start out light and end on a dark note.

also I enjoyed Anna Karenina more than I thought I would and it does entertain me to know it was one of the most shelved books of the year... only the strong can handle 35 hours of tolstoy

there are two things that always bother me when it comes to historic fiction media and one of them is haircuts... its such a small detail but one SO easy to find information + reference for when it comes to wwii, and few things make me lose immersion faster 😔

not to be a pedant on main but the popular wehrmacht regulation cut was so distinct that soldiers could be identified without a uniform majority of the time. and it was a holdover from prussian military tradition.

last book: oughhh i'm balls deep in three uni textbooks atm (developmental bio, animal physiology and biochemistry lmao) but the last book i finished "for fun" (read: writing research) was "radio hitler" by nathan morley. an interesting pop-history look at the influence of radio broadcasting shows for third reich propaganda both domestically and abroad.

i did start "the brothers karamazov" audiobook but i was having a really hard time keeping track of what the fuck was happening :( i might try to read the physical copy instead but honestly i haven't had much time or brain capacity to read for fun lately because prepping for my thesis is consuming my life!

last movie: PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE 50TH ANNIVERSARY ORIGINAL DE PALMA CUT...

last tv show: i'm about 2/3rds done with HBO rome. before that i was rewatching fellow travellers for the 2nd time. contemplating a mad men and/or babylon berlin rewatch...

sweet/spicy/savoury: spicy and savoury!! i'm a dark chocolate slut, don't really care for sweet.

relationship status: single and tired of people's bullshit tbh

last thing i googled: "never thought i'd get to meet the devil" it's a 1 min transition song in phantom of the paradise that is extremely catchy but not on the soundtrack... i wish they'd expanded on it

current obsessions: i am always thinking about my ocs tbh... idk i don't really get obsessed these days like i used to, but i do have a rotating spectrum of things that i find interesting; history, classic lit, film, art, cellular biology/epigenetics, FISHES (!!!!), travel, food. i obviously have a particular interest in wwii... specifically the experiences of the average person, largely wehrmacht focused but allied airborne too.

for media, rn i am thinking A Lot about alan wake ii and phantom of the paradise.

looking forward to: i'm maybe a week or two away from being short-term debt free which means i can finally start planning and saving for a solo europe trip (aka do a bunch of stupid oc research) :-)

also it's almost reading week and i desperately need to lay face down on the floor for a little bit. and also write gay porn sorry (i'm not).
