MY PUZZLE GAME ASCENT IS FINALLY DONE!!!

about a month behind schedule, but we pulled through!
this is my first published game since my childhood days on scratch.mit.edu! how the time flies
i would NOT have done this without tumblr. idk what it is about this place but i have never been so motivated to work on stuff regularly. im so proud of myself for completing this journey :D
and an especially emphatic thank-you-so-much to @versilperihelion, @the-typing-dragon, and @dont-look-me-in-the-eye for playtesting! ascent would not be nearly as polished had you not volunteered your time, encouragement, and puzzle-solving skills to my cause. love u all <3

Wait, what is this?
It has recently dawned on me that I've been publishing this devlog without explaining what I'm developing! Flower Pot is a game about being a half-plant, half-animal creature that lives in a flower pot. It's a physics-based game of exploration with some platformer elements. It's inspired by Rain World, Ascent, and those Uproot guys from Super Mario Odyssey. The original Flower Pot was a prototype I made for a programming class about a year ago. Out of a desire to make the game more expressive and playful, I decided to take that prototype's premise and make it physics-based. Now I'm deep into this wonderful rabbit hole. Gun Runner DevLog #17

Had an impromptu trip home to NY because my grandma passed away. Also had a friend visit last week so only now getting back to development. Going to GDC next week and am focusing on a list of items to take care of in hopes of having a polished build to show off.
Dropships, enemies, and players flash red when taking damage.
Dropships and coin patterns spawn at random tilemap level rather than using player's position.
Player's torso now points up and down when aiming at certain angles.
Converted a BOATLOAD of levels (1-4, 1-5, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 5-1, 5-2, 5-3). Currently displaying them at random but the idea is to use the environment to enhance the story, so as the player continues running, they'll see the slow destruction of the environment and the gradual ascent of toxic waste and industrialization.
Added a pause button sans menu and the game now pauses when backgrounding and foregrounding.
The parallax background no longer moves vertically.
Made the reticle touch area larger so it's easier to move around.

(these image descriptions make my game seem way cooler than it actually is- the resolution of every sprite in puzzlescript is twenty five. but i did my best)

just published a puzzle-platformer demo! :o
it's called 'ascent' and it is about a tiny robot lost in a sprawling cave system. you can play it here:
i have an infamously cluttered and cobwebby project shelf but this october i have been so energized to do game-dev things and getting a project over the "minimum viable product" hill and into the "ongoing development" valley is incredibly satisfying. expect plenty of dev updates from me in the future!
