Fated
Asamine Matakara was someone who would believe on the idea of fairytales and fantasies being real.
He had idolized at the imagery of a living, breathing Honki people for years after all. Despite the harsh bullies he received, which was a result of holding into this kind of dream with such pure innocence, Matakara wouldn’t change a single thing and continue to hang on to his believes with an unwavering faith even until he grew up. His sparkling green eyes still held the same innocence he had all those years ago.
So it wouldn’t be a surprising thing if someone discovered that he, one of the tops dogs of the Minato Kai gang, was actually a huge hopeless romantic who adored the idea of meeting his fated soulmate in the cheesiest ways possible known to mankind. Ranging from the invisible string theory, higher-self meeting and guiding to encounters, dreaming one’s future soulmate multiple times until their fated reunion. The fantasy of experiencing something similar had successfully turned Matakara’s knees to a pair of wobbly jellies as his cheeks burned a lovely, crimson red. This habit usually happened each time the young man finished reading the stacks of sappy romance novels he had saved on his desk. Every syllables was imprinted to Matakara’s brain, and with the fresh scene of love confessions playing over and over as if he’s rewinding a record, he was eventually left breathless and dazed of said romantic event.
Love, in Matakara’s opinion, was such an beautiful thing to experience.
No one had any knowledge of this small hobby of his, not even Komao and Zabu knew. Matakara unintentionally masked his fixation well, hidden behind his image as one of the strongest delinquent at school. In all honesty, Matakara didn’t mind getting discovered as a sappy dork, but knew better than to share his private life openly to the people around him (even when he’s now a lot stronger than he was back then, stronger to not get beaten to black and blue and left to rot alone). However, if someone were to find out about his view on magical, breath-taking love myths and encounters, Matakara would not back down from defending the view of his love. He jotted down notes, stored scientific journals, and scrolled through countless of threads just to prove how invisible strings which brought and tied two people together eternally existed.
Especially after Matakara managed to stumble upon you one day, gazing up at him full of awe and wonder after he accidentally blurted a romance novel recommendation while you were rummaging desperately on the bookshelves in a bookstore. Your smile, your joyful laugh, your delightful voice as you thanked him for the amazing titles he suggested, and your warmth when the two of were reaching out toward the same book with fingertips slightly touching each other— sending electric tingles that rushed inside his bloodstreams. Suddenly, the knowledge of inhaling oxygen to breathe properly was lost in Matakara’s short-circuited brain.
To be able to meet you was the fate he had long dreamed of.

Valentine's day!
Tumblr media
Today was valentine's day and you just got ready and walked out to see matakara waiting for you like a puppy with the way he perked seeing you.
" good morning, Y/n-chan!"
" good morning, matakara."
You give him a smile before you reached into the bag you were carrying and hand him chocolates you know are his favorite when you both were kids.
" you remembered my favorite."
" of course."
You and matakara walked to school together, he offered you a piece of the chocolate.
You walked onto school grounds.
" y/n-teen!"
Marito yelled as he ran towards you, you knew that you couldn't out run him so you just accepted fate and braced.
Matakara tried to stop him and protect you from the siguma squad leader but failed.
Marito picked you up and you grabbed onto his shoulder while holding onto the bag in the other hand as he spins excited.
" y/n-teen! Good morning, happy valentine's day."
" yah, happy valentine's day."
You say when he stopped, you looked around seeing that outa wasn't with him.
" where's outa?"
" oh, he's off doing something."
" okay."
Marito looked at you bating his eyelashes at you expectingly waiting.
" put me down and I'll give it to you."
Marito put you down smiling as you reached into your bag putting the box of chocolate filled cookies with animals on them in marito's hand.
" thank you, y/n-teen!"
Marito said before he kissed the side of your head.
You walked into the school and noticed komao looking out the window for you.
You walked into the classroom and komao quickly got up to greet you hugging you.
" good morning."
" Haha, good morning."
You and komao walked to your seats next to zabu.
" happy valentine's day, I said it first so I get my chocolate first."
Komao said before he looked at zabu with a small smirk, zabu hit komao with his elbow but komao had a smaller smirk.
You laughed at them messing around before you reached into the bag pulling out container with a slice of cookie cake inside.
" yay! Thank you, y/n-san."
Komao looked at it as if think he should wait to eat it before he opened it and took a bite.
You smile and reach back into the bag before giving zabu a chocolate bar and a few smaller ones.
" tisk, thanks."
Zabu took it and was hiding his excitement from getting chocolate.
Soon the bell rings for lunch, you walked around the school looking for someone who you have chocolate for.
You walk into the gym looking for outa to give him the chocolate you have for him.
Some siguma members looked at you before they started giving you a hard time.
" what's going on over here?"
Outa had walked over and the siguma members quickly left you alone.
" happy valentine's day, outa."
You said as you gave him mochi chocolate, he took it with a soft smile before he put his hand on your head.
" thank you."
You left the gym and ran into hague and jabashiri eating at a table by the vending machines.
You sit down at the table with them putting the bag next to you.
" hey, good afternoon."
" oh. Hello, y/n-san."
" tisk."
You reach into the bag and give Hague a white chocolate bar, Hague blushed gently take the bar.
Jabashiri was looking at you intently and looked away when you looked at him.
You laughed at him before you put 2 dark chocolate bar in front of him.
" there, you were upset yesterday about the vending machine not having it."
Hague lightly kicked jabashiri's leg before jabashiri said.
" thanks."
The bell rang and you left going to class, you sat next to arajin.
" do you know if mahoro brought any chocolate for anyone?"
" no, I don't think she did."
" oh here."
You reached into your bag and gave him 2 a chocolate bar and shrine offering like chocolate.
" what?"
Arajin flipped over the shrine chocolate and on the back was a small doodle of a small senya.
Soon the last bell rings and you walk off school grounds and to minato kai's base.
You knocked on the door where ken-san was before you slid open the paper door.
Ken-san looked over and sat down, you walked in and sat down as well.
' this is a bit awkward, I was hopeing to leave the chocolate and go.'
You snap out of your thoughts when ken-san gestures for the 2 guys to leave the room.
You reach into your bag and pull out a small box of different chocolates before you hand it to him.
" I didn't know which kind you liked so I got a box of different chocolates."
You said before you jump startled by ken-san bowing, you quickly also bowed.
You could hear the murmurs and whispers of the guys eavesdropping and peeping in through a small crack in the door.
You leave and walk home as the sun is setting, you looked at the sun set and pulled out your phone to take a picture but you couldn't find the perfect angle.
You feel someone's behind you before 2 gloved hands gently take your phone from your hands and held it a bit above your head taking the photo.
" good afternoon, happy valentine's day."
" good afternoon."
You turned to him and tried to take your phone back but he had a tight grip on it.
You look at him pulling on your phone but he won't let go, shindo was giving you a closed eyed smile wanting something.
You reach into your bag and grabbed the last two 2, a chocolate bar and a shrine chocolate bar.
You put the chocolate in his other hand and he let go of your phone.
" thank you."
' bro what the fuck.'
You walked into your house and upstairs onto your bed.

i just started Bucchigiri and love your stuff!!! 😭 Can you do one for Matakara having a crush on a new transfer girl? She wears the boys uniform and a hoodie over her head so she doesn't get attention. He only finds out cuz she helped treat his wounds after a fight once and it's been their secret ever since
Thank you so much! Hope you like this!
Just Between Us
Matakara/afab!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Matakara takes it upon himself to befriend the new introverted transfer student and develops a crush, unaware they're both keeping secrets from the other. wc: 2.2k a/n: no warnings, mostly just fluff and a few swear words. reader is afab but I personally written them as being gender fluid. I also headcanon Matakara as bi disaster. Enjoy!
You yawn, barely paying attention as your teacher goes on about something to do with…history? English? Biology? At this point you don’t bother keeping track; no one else does. Usually everyone in your homeroom is openly hooting and hollering over the lecture; on good days, most of the other students are zoned out or passing notes, not even attempting to be sneaky about it.
Speaking of, a folded up card gets flicked on your desk; you look, puzzled at it, and back to your seatmate. On your right is Matakara Asamine, smiling patiently and pointing to the paper.
You roll your eyes but smile back; he has your number, the two of you could easily have a whole conversation over text if you wished to. Still, you open the little piece of paper and read what Matakara scribbled: he’s asking if you want to see a movie after school. You stifle a chuckle and write back an affirmative, deliberately sliding your hand over the surface of his desk; after he reads your answer, Matakara pumps his fist silently in a display of excitement. Your profile is obscured with your hood up and your head turned, so you hope he doesn’t see how wide you’re grinning.
It’s only been a few months since you transferred to Ichizu and you’re grateful to have made a few decent friends; with the district's reputation, you hadn’t expected to do much in the way of socializing. You weren't particularly street smart or experienced in self defense even: you were one of the few students who fell into the “harmless wallflower” category. There were a handful of kids at school who were like you; they just sort of walked around, didn’t speak much, and were largely ignored by the majority of the school populace as too weak and plain to bother with.
The Minato Kai and Siguma members mostly kept to themselves, interested in their own rivalry and their own personal circles of friends and acquaintances. Normies like you were mildly entertaining to mess with, and while you did get some teasing and the occasional shove in the hallway, you had sufficiently flown under the radar.
At least, until Matakara Asamine decided he wanted to make you his friend. From the beginning you were surprised, but not especially wary. The general opinion of Matakara was that he was strong and had integrity, two traits that Minato Kai prized; his revered older brother would surely be proud, who you had also heard good things about. With all that in mind, you didn’t hesitate too much when Matakara and his friends asked you to sit with them to eat or tag along to the batting cages. Frankly, you let everyone else do most of the talking; it was fun though. You genuinely enjoyed the company and Matakara shot down any attempts to get you to pledge with their gang.
“What are we going to see later?” You ask as you take a seat next to Zabu, handing him the manga he had lent you a week prior. “Sorry it took so long, I lost it in the pile.”
“Eh, you can keep that if you want.” Zabu scrunches his nose at the volume, sliding it back towards you. “I’m not into that sappy shit.”
“Huh?” You raise an eyebrow. “Why’d ya buy it?”
“I heard it was supposed to be good, but it was cliche as hell.” Zabu shrugs, jabbing his elbow into Sakegaki’s side; said boy had been reaching his chopsticks into Zabu’s bento to nab a piece of grilled meat. “What movie? Are we going to see a movie?”
“Um-”
“Hey guys!”
Matakara almost startles you with how loudly his voice booms; he plops down onto the bench next to you. “Sorry, the bread line was crazy today.”
“Figures, it’s half off day. What’d you get?” Zabu asks curiously.
“Yakisoba, here,” Matakara takes one of the sealed baggies of treats and puts one on top of your plate. “I owe you for last time, your favorite is the melon bread, right?”
“Yeah, but you didn’t have to.” You add. “Thanks though.”
“No problem.”
Lunch period comes and goes and you completely forget to ask what movie the four of you are going to see, but it doesn’t bug you much. You don’t really mind if it means you get to sit by Matakara again; the last time you went to the movies with him he had shared a bucket of popcorn with you, whispering into your ear every now and again to comment on something. You spend the rest of the day hoping you’ll be able to sit next to him again, maybe have one of those moments where your hands touch by accident. Zabu doesn’t know what he’s talking about in your humble opinion: if it was up to you, your school life would be one big, romantic comedy cliche, and Matakara would be the male lead.
Except, as things are now with you passing for a boy, you’re pretty sure your role as of now is the quiet friend, the awkward loner adopted by the popular kid. Not a bad deal all things considered, but it makes having a crush something of a pain in the ass. Still, you’ll take some yearning on your end if it means you can continue going through your school days mostly unnoticed and unbothered. The fact of the matter is presenting as a girl is a hassle; even the toughest girls in your class have to deal with being pursued and bugged by obnoxious wannabe casanovas who think they’re the earth’s gift to women.
So far, you haven’t had any risky encounters: the gender neutral bathroom, dirty and falling apart like everything else in the school, helps avoid your secret getting out and you skip changing for gym because…well, pretty much everyone else does anyway and the teachers don’t care. You can’t see any reason why you shouldn’t keep passing as a boy until graduation; not to mention, the boy’s uniforms are comfier.
“Where’s the guys?”
It’s the late afternoon and you’re changed into baggy sweats and battered sneakers; inside your jacket are four packages of candy picked up from the convenience store you’re presently loitering outside of to sneak into the theater. Matakara is late; you’re about to text him when you hear his voice calling out to you. Down the sidewalk, Matakara is running your way, smiling wide and out of uniform; as he reaches you, your eyes widen.
“What the hell? You’re bleeding man.” You step up to him, craning your neck to get a good look at the cut over his eyebrow. “What the hell happened?”
“Ah, one of Siguma’s guys challenged me on my way here.” Matakara raises his fingers to the small gash. “Oh wow, I didn’t realize his kick landed that hard.”
“Matakara, hold on a second.”
“Where are you-?”
You rush into the store; in three minutes you’ve returned with a box of bandages, a small bag of cotton swabs, disinfecting ointment, hand sanitizer, and a bottle of water.
“What’s the water for?”
“Flush out the wound. Some of the blood’s drying.”
You make Matakare sit down on the wooden bench on the side of the building and lay out the supplies. He watches you silently as you pour some of the clean water onto a swab and begin to carefully wipe off the dried blood, soaking up the bit that’s still oozing. Matakara is obediently still and doesn’t wince as you swipe a few dabs of ointment over the injury after sanitizing your hands properly.
“You do this a lot?”
“Nope.” You confess, handing him the bottle of water. “Here, have some. It’s always a good idea to drink water. I’m gonna put the bandaid on; can’t believe you didn’t realize you got hit so hard.”
“I was kinda in a rush.” Matakara’s hand dwarfs the plastic bottle; he’s looking down a bit guiltily. “Sorry I was late. I thought it’d be over quicker.”
“Well, the guys are late anyway, so it works out.” You gently smooth the bandage across his eyebrow. “There, it should be fine. Are you sure you don’t feel dizzy or anything? Maybe we should skip the movie.”
“No!” Matakara says, sitting up straight. “I’m totally fine, seriously. Thanks for taking care of me.”
“I should be the one saying that.” You sit next to him with a sigh. “Don’t apologize; I’m lucky you want to hang out with me at all.”
“Of course I do! You’re fun to be around and you’re a good listener and you’re really-”
Matakara stops talking; he suddenly looks away and takes a sip of water. You stare at him, a bit flattered and a lot confused. Matakara's been acting a little off all day come to think of it.
“Should I text the guys? You told them where we were gonna meet, right?” You check your phone while Matakara finishes the water. “Think they went straight to the theater?”
“Um, actually, Sakegaki and Zabu aren’t coming.” Matakara tells you; he scrunches up the bottle and tosses it cleanly into the recycling bin next to him. “You don’t mind, right?”
“Oh. No, it’s cool.” You’re not lying but now your curiosity has peaked. “Is everything okay with you guys?”
“Yeah, nothing wrong.” Matakara says quickly. “If you want I can call them, if you’re not comfortable with it being just us.”
“Why wouldn't I be?”
“Because…”
Matakara’s hands are clasped and he’s still looking at the ground; he looks troubled and you feel bad for pushing the issue, whatever it is, but something is definitely wrong.
“I don’t mean to presume.” Matakara begins slowly, measuring his tone. “It’s none of my business, but I, um, when you got close to me, I kinda felt…your chest.”
You stare at him blankly; Matakara’s cheeks flush and he finally gives you a ‘look’.
“Oh.” You blink. “Shit. I guess you found me out.”
“So, you were born a girl?”
“Yeah.”
“Why are you…?” Matakara averts his stare. “Wait, sorry, it’s none of my business.”
“No, you’re fine. The thing is, it’s just kind of easier to pass myself off as a guy, ya know?” You pat his shoulder. “So, would you mind keeping it between us? Honestly, I don’t really care if people see me as a guy, girl, whatever, but it would make my life easier if you didn't go telling anyone else.”
“A secret?” Matakara perks up. “Between us?”
“I’d appreciate it.”
“Sure!”
You’re a bit taken aback; you know Matakara’s a nice guy and all, but you didn’t expect him to be this easy going about your charade.
“You can trust me.” Matakara puts a hand over his heart. “I can swear it in blood.”
“No, no more bleeding!” You blanch at the thought. “Dude, it’s not that deep.”
“I know, but it’s just nice.” Matakara rubs the back of his neck; he’s beaming at you, eyes crinkling in the corners, cheeks flushed. “You know, we’re always around other people or you go off on your own; when we are together, you don’t say much…I feel like we haven’t actually gotten a chance to really know each other, so I like we have this thing that’s only for us. Does that sound weird?”
“A little, but I see what you mean.” You tug the strings of your hoodie so it closes more around your face. “If you want, we could do this more.”
“This?”
“Hanging out,” You clarify, voice softer than you mean for it to be. “Just the two of us. If you want.”
“Then, it’s okay I didn’t invite the others? You’re not uncomfortable with it?”
“I probably feel the most comfortable around you, Matakara.”
You chance peeking out and realize you’re screwed: Matakara is leaning over, right in your face, eyes glued to your face and almost shining. He radiates warmth, like he’s trying to make you gravitate closer to his side, unknowingly pulling you toward him.
"Really?"
Actually, it’s more like his hand is placed over yours and he’s moving his face close to yours; for a moment you and Matakara stare at each other mutely. His hand covers yours and you don’t feel uncomfortable but your heart might actually combust inside your ribcage from how tenderly Matakara is gazing at you.
“Do you really mean it?” Matakara breathes, voice almost like a sigh. “Can we go to the movies now? Just you and me?”
“Uh huh.” You nod dumbly, swallowing the spit you didn’t realize was pooling from glancing at his lips. “I, um, bought candy for everyone, four of them.”
“More for us.” Matakara smiles brightly, standing up; he’s yet to let go of your hand.
“Works for me.” You don’t try to pull your hand away, allowing Matakara to pretty much lead you down the sidewalk in the direction of the theater. You’ve never seen him act almost childishly eager and his attitude is admittedly infectious. “Let’s share a popcorn bucket, it'll be less expensive.”
“Yeah, we should split a drink too.”
Matakara looks back, and you can’t miss the mischievous glint in his eyes as your cheeks grow hot.
“…I’m gonna have to watch out for you.”
“I don’t mind. In fact,” Matakara is grinning a little too innocently for the look he’s giving you over his shoulder. “You can look at me all you want.”

- "In Christianity, violets are sometimes associated with the Virgin Mary's humility and purity."
Bucchigiri!?! / Reader
[You and Arajin didn't expect to meet a genie. ]
-
Arajin Tomoshibi / Senya
The two of you eye the classroom, bowing politely. You glance at Arajin and freeze, his eyes trained on a lone girl who had a listless expression. You look away, frowning meekly.
You and Arajin had been given a strange fate.
Chased by gangsters, running into a shrine as he found gun inside.
Yet as he pressed the trigger, you were grazed by the bullet as it lodges itself in his head.
You stood frozen as the genine.. Or, Senya for short. Had circled his body around your frightened form. Yet he grins in a friendly manner, meeting your unsure gaze.
You and Arajin eagerly question the genie and realize he was stuck with you, too.
Yet when Arajin told his wish, the thought of Mahoro Jin in his mind...
"Hmm.. What is it you wish for..?"Your eyes widen, mouth parting slightly as you trace the bandaid on your cheek. "Your friend wants to lose his virginity." Senya stated as you blink, face blank but nodding.
You knew your wish..
"I-I..." You take a timid breath of air, making sure Arajin wasn't in the room, you spoke.
Senya watches eagerly as your gaze became... Determined.
"I... Want to fall in love."
-
Matakara Asamine
"... (Y/N)?"
You pause in your footsteps, turning around. Facing the familiar teen in quiet suprise. "Matakara..."
Meeting your old childhood acquaintance, which shocked you.
You smile strainfully as his eyes shine intensely
His friends smile as they eye you as well, whispering to each other
"Ah, I can't belive this shrimpy-chick is Matakara's-" "-Shuuush! I wanna see this play out!"
You watch as your friend turns away and throws a look at his friends. Senya yells excitedly in your ears.
You gulp, walking away quickly.
He calls out your name urgently, yet you just start running as Senya screams.
"Oi! Why are you running!" Senya screams as you run into the girls' restroom. Holding your chest, breathing heavily.
-
Marito Jin
"Eh~?" The leader drawls out, gazing at your features. But.. You didn't back down, merely holding out your arms to block Arajin from his sights.
You really didn't want your friend to go on that date with Mahoro...
You made yourself sick with worry, so..
"Follow them!" Senya exclaimed brightly, poking at your shoulder as he pushes you after them.
Leading you into the situation of hiding in bush as you watched Arajin and Mahoro on their date..
Senya kept giving you pep-talks as you try to focus your brain on anything else.
That was until.. Mahoro' brother showed up.
"Ha..." Marito breathes out, the fierce look you had given him.. It was raw, as if your eyes managed to land a hit on him.
Senya couldn't help but smirk, enjoying your confidence.
Before aiding Arajin into fighting the green haired delinquent.
Unfortunately, you as well.
"What is it exactly you wish for...?" Senya yells as you and Arajin scream together.
"I want to lose my virginity!"
"And..?"
With a small breath, you join.
"I want to fall in love!"

A wish for a happy life (romantic)
The Readers gender I’ve tried to leave ambiguous
This is being made when there’s only 4 episodes out (and I haven’t yet seen them all) so there may be inaccuracies to stuff later revealed but who cares!
I got inspiration to write this after seeing @ice-cream-writes-stuff bucchigiri fic that you can find here. Please check it out
There need to be more fanfics for this show pleaseeeeee 🙏🏻
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To say you were a handful as a child was an understatement
From the moment you could remember anything your knuckles were always bruised and bloodied
Bruises littering your arms like medals of a successfully won fight
Tousled hair and busted lips
Glowering and prideful eyes daring someone to be next
Fighting was almost as natural as breathing to you back then
Speaking with your fists to get across the message of not being messed with as playground bullies ran off
Violence was all you knew as a way to get attention
Crying and begging for the orphanage attendants or preschool teachers to listen was for naught
They brushed it off
Crying was white noise
But the yelling and sounds of an arm being broken on school property was heard loud and clear
On all accounts you should’ve ended up as a delinquent
For hells sake you even started a gang at some point
On all accounts you were Someone on the “wrong” path in life fated to be some lowlife scum
It was expected of you by just about every grown up
Even looking at yourself in the mirror, busted and broken you knew how you’d likely end up
You didn’t want that but what choice did you have?
You wanted to be loved, to be seen, to have a happy life
But fate didn’t seem to have that cut out for you
…at first
But despite it all
You changed
And it all started with a woman own a small Chinese restaurant and her son
Despite your track record
The scornful look on your lips and gritted teeth as the other children lined up to be picked as you sat off to the side
That kind woman and her son saw you
The kid off to the side
The unwanted
The “trouble child”
And despite the fact they should’ve picked one of the more well behaved kids they chose you
Arajin often talks about the look on your face that day
The pure disbelief
Shock
Confusion
And most of all the tears
The expression of finally being seen for the first time in your life without having to quite literally pummeling it into someone
Your expression remained that when they brought you home
A room already made for you and left for you to eventually decorate how you want
That night laying in your new bed you vowed you’d change
You’d put your life on track
Not only for yourself but for your new family
Arajin (platonic)
Arajin can removed with a whole heart the first time he met you
It was before bringing you into the family
He was training with Matakara at the time as some older kids from some gang showed up
They were probably gonna rough them up
Arajin was ready to fight when suddenly someone beat them to the punch
“Oi! You fucking meatheads I told you to leave civ’s alone!” You stood there, a scowl on your face as the others cowered. Your eyes turned to him and Matakara, sympathy flashing through the hardened eyes of steel and diamond. The unspoken words of “I’m sorry” in them.
After that he saw you around town
Never going up to you but watching in curiosity
Maybe once upon a time he’d see you like any other punk
But that day changed something
There was compassion in your eyes
Even compassion in the way you seemed to fight for others without admitting it
He could see at heart you were a good person
Someone who fought for others because no one fought for them
He didn’t know why you did what you did until he and mom ended up at that orphanage
And in the back he saw you there
To the side with a resented sadness
Knowing you would never be picked
Never be loved
Never have a good life
His eyes connected with yours and he swears he sees them widen in that moment
You were seen
You were chosen
You could have a good life now
That night he remembers your silent sobs of joy in the next room over
The next morning he design comment on your reddened eyes and neither does mom
Both just focus on how you eat with a smile
Still a little jittery as if wondering if this was real
He pats your shoulder to remind you it is
In the months following he can’t help but smile when noticing your room grow with things of your interest
The way you seem to find clothes that properly fit you
The way in which you talk with him while cooking with mom
You grow with him
Hang out with Matakara who welcomes you with open arms
When he becomes interested in base you save up your buy him one for his birthday and when it comes yours he does the same bit with a drum set
In every way possible Arajin sees you change for the better
Perhaps your temper never went away but you know how to handle it now
Use it for good
Use it without lashing out wildly
He sees that you help mom out, call her mom too
You call him Ara, call him your brother
In every way possible you look out for him as best you can
When he looses his old physique and dream you take the place of protector instead
No matter the situation you step up for him even if his idiotic actions lead to his ass being beaten
You love him like he’s actually your brother
And he loves you the same
When moving back to the graffiti covered hometown you both were born in he can’t help but see your nervous
It’s easy to tell for him since he sees past your stoic facade
Your hands fidget
Eyes glancing from place to place
Breath getting heavy
When your shared teacher talks about the class he sees your hands fidget once more
For so long you’ve protected him
And in the moment your both in front of the class he protect you
He introduces you by his nickname for you
Your stoic face breaking a little with gratitude before he immediately sits down beside a cute girl in the back of the class
You aren’t surprised, damn horny teenage boys
The sentiment of what he did thought resonates with you though
Much more than you’d ever admit to your stupid little sleez of brother
That girl he’s looking at with goo goo eyes is trouble (also vaguely familiar)
But you’d be damned if he’d get his asskicked if you weren’t there to save him
…….later on when he ends up in a temple almost completely naked and ends up shooting both himself and you with two old ass guns you almost give him the ass kicking of the century
But fortunately for him you don’t
But unfortunately for the both of you two beings appear instead
“Ara, when we get home I’m kicking you in the ass for shooting me in the stomach”
“Just don’t kill me before I lose my virginity”
“God your a degenerate”
Senya and Astḗr (platonic)
The two Majin appear from a burst of smoke swirling smoke of red’s and purples
Two magical beings demanding to know what both your and your brothers wish was
The Majin your brother was granted is much more intimidating in nature than yours who leisurely relaxes on a cloud
Their much more and lithe androgynous appearance paired with an elegant and sly smile
Whilst Senya pokes at Arajin for being a wimp, Astḗr stares at you with interest in their golden eyes
A curious expression on their face as they examine your glare of both fear and defence
A lavender tinged hand reaches out
Your frozen in fear
And then-
“Kyaaa!! You’re such an adorable human!” The Majin wraps their arms around you, choking you in a massive hug as the other lightly laughs at their behaviour. “Ah! Mind my manners! I’m Aster, now what’s your wish?”
“Huh?…w…what?”
“What’s your wish?”
“My wish?…” you think it over for a moment before a memory plays in your head as you one night watched a shooting star “I wish happy life”
The Majin grins at that, “as you wish”
And then Arajin wishes to lose his virginity which makes you and the two Majin stare at him in both shock and disbelief
Before you them rightfully punch Arajin in the head for both shooting you and wasting a wish for literally anything in the world
Meanwhile both Majin laugh their metaphorical asses off
The Majin are only seen by you and Arajin despite Ara trying to get others to see the two
Despite the fact that you had a mental breakdown when first meeting Senya and Astḗr you become quickly used to their presence
Senya is the more battle hungry of the two, enthusiastically asking you of your past experiences once hearing you had your fair share
Despite his initial impression he seems to be quite a fun guy
He even has an almost puppy like expression at times when you explain new human things as Aster listens with a look of amazement
Speaking of Aster your Majin is seemingly the youngest
Apparently their first time even experiencing the human world
Senya has granted wishes a couple times within the span of few centuries but Aster is doing it for the first time
It leaves Senya looking on like a big brother as Aster engages with you with enthusiasm
You soon realize though that your wish for a happy life was soon much more complicated than you initially wishes
“Aster why am I seeing shojo anime sparkles?!?”
The Majin giggles “well you said you wanted a happy life right! Well I watched some of those shows your mom was watching and some fairytales and well…they seem to be living a really happy life! Plus you used to live here right? Whats more happy and romantic than reuniting with your old friends!”
As much as you like Aster your gonna strangle them
Mahoro (romantic)
The girl your brother is listing after and sits beside seems worryingly familiar to you
Even she seems to notice this as she looks your way as Ara is too love stricken to notice she’s looking behind him
It’s so odd
She rings a bell in your head yet you can’t place a finger on it
Until it’s after school and you end up at a small stationary shop selling cute stuff
Even back in your delinquent days you had a soft spot for cute stuff
It was a secret you hid in the depths of your soul for your reputation
Except to two people in particular
One of which who you gifted a small my melody keychain to match your kuromi one
In that small store you pick out the cutest stuff of your dreams without any hesitation you used to have
By the time you leave your bag is filled to the brim
It’s there you bump into that pretty girl
She looks at you with big pink eyes
And it’s there passing her you notice her my melody phone charm
It’s there you realize it’s “Mai-chan” as you used to affectionately call her
The only person you felt comfortable in talking about your love for cute things
Back in the day she used to have the biggest crush on you
She’d follow you around and cling to you like a stray puppy and glaring at anyone in a 3 feet radius
She even had the gull to argue with her big bro about being to close to you
In retrospect maybe a little obsessive but at the time she was one of the few you felt…soft with plus it was probably just puppy love
Around everyone you had to be ready for a fight
You were the ruthless leader of a gang after all
You couldn’t have to to just simply sit down and enjoy something like Sanrio
Someone but yourself to put bandaids and wrap your bruised knuckles
But with her you let your guard down
She was someone you could simply be you with
And because of that, because you were her shield and someone who would genuinely listen to her
You could simply be you and she could be herself without people just perceiving her for her looks
When you were adopted though you cut contact for everyone’s sake
Because how would she feel if she saw you were a completely different person
In some sense you were ashamed
In another you thought it was best for anyone to know
When you leave the shop she stares at the kuromi merchandise you bought
Distantly you hear her nickname for you but you pretend to ignore it
When Ara asks about his prospects with his “sweet Mahoro-chan~” you can’t help but sigh
She’s doing that old habit of luring guys in for her brother to beat up since you won’t do it anymore
You tried to warn Ara but you assume you’ll have to step in personally when the time comes
“Oni-chan! I think I saw them again! And they’re hanging out with some boy! You know what that means!”
Matakara (romantic)
The moment you stood up for him and Arajin as kids he looked up to you
Despite the fact you were the leader of those kids you clearly had morals
Even watching your fights against other kids he noticed you were honourable
And that’s something that stuck with him
Sure, it didn’t take much for you to bloody your knuckles but you didn’t play dirty
You fought fair
Sure maybe you were rough around the edges but he saw in you like Arajin a kindness
One that was on display that day and even more so when you were taken in
He didn’t know you for very long until you and your family moved but when he did it was something he’d never forget
You were more kind at heart than he imagined
When he an Arajin would train you’d alway cheer them on and have celebratory snacks ready
When he pushed himself to the limit of got hurt you’d patch him up
Washing his scrapes and putting cute little bandaids on them
He was heartbroken when you left and as were you
So it’s a surprise when he suddenly sees Arajin again
And by extension that means your back too
When you both run into each other again your much more happy than Arajin
In fact his men can hardly believe it when he’s suddenly tackled hugged by you
Never can he but he then spins you around in pure joy
All the while his men Zabu and Komao watch in awe
Before you turn your attention to them
And pause
And then turn back to Matakara with an expression which could only be described as “pissed and wanting an explanation”
So turns out he joined a gang
And turns out you don’t like that much since you then suplex him onto the ground
Of all the things he learned from you it should’ve been not to get affiliated with gangs
It’s literally what you told him and Ara everyday
But nope, this block headed puppy dog did the one thing you told him not to do
Zabu and Komao almost attack you if not for Matakara laughing it off
Even if your upset with his decision he’s at least happy that your still the same you
Temperamental but compassionate
Sturdy yet gentle
Stoic and emotional all at the same time
He asks if sometime you’d like to have lunch or train at the dojo his relatives own and you agree
But only if it’s non gang related and he smiles
Zabu and Komao can practically see hearts buzzing around him and the gentle look in his eyes as you leave
They can’t really blame him for it either
“Other than joining a gang (which I’m still upset about) what have you been doing?” You ask sitting down beside him with your bento box and his. Mom made one specially for him
“Well I’ve been training. Arajin may have given up but I haven’t, it seems like you still train too” he says with the same kind smile as usual
You feel yourself get a bit flustered at that “how else am I supposed to keep that idiot brother of mine safe. I swear he walks into danger sometimes” at that Matakara laughs in agreement.
Marito (romantic)
Back when you started your gang there was only ever one person that ever came close to your strength and that was Marito
When you had defeated him it was as if he became a parasite that latched onto you (you say this lovingly and out of annoyance)
He had stuck with you like glue and became your right hand man
Quite literally helping you claw your way to the top of the metaphorical food chain
Marito and his sister were the only two people at the time that saw you for who you were
Saw where you’d slink back off to at night
Saw how utterly hopeless and alone you felt
You were strong yes, that’s what drew him to you in the first place
It was (as he says) “love at first fight”
But beyond that he began to see the person who did his sisters hair
Gave other tips In how to throw a proper punch
Allowed their mask to break In his presence and crumble
It made him grow to love you more
Respect you more
And most importantly grow to care for you despite your inability to properly see it
Despite what you thought so many people respected and looked up to you
Him included
For fucks sake his own sister got jealous when he once had to carry you or when your attention was on him too much
You didn’t see this though, perhaps couldn’t with the constant feeling of invisibility and insecurity instilled into you at birth
It’s because of this that one day you seemingly disappeared and left a note saying you gave up your position as leader to him
It hurt
It hurt a lot more than he wanted to admit
everyone felt your absence, him and Mahoro especially
But despite that Marito never gave up on trying to find you
He would get it through your thick head one way or another that he cared for you
That he loved you damn it
And if there was one thing people would agree on about Marito is was that he never gave up on something
Especially for someone he loves
So when years pass he’s still looking for you when something catches his attention
His sister mentions that she thought she saw you
It seems you were back
And with a guy? Who was also once again wrapped around her finger
He wasn’t surprised at that but moreso you were with someone
So maybe after that he got a little bit heated more than usual when interrupting Mahoro’s “date” with him to beat the shit out of him
And maybe he does get a little obsessed with his punch
And then you show up with that beautiful stoic and cold look on your face as you give him your famous combo moves
And he falls in love with you all over again
I mean how can he not?
Especially when he punch back and you simply spit the blood out to the pavement
And how can he not be jealous when you go help Arajin before realize through a now pissy Mahoro (upset he got to be within 4 feet of you) that’s your brother
From the look on his face of lovesick and determined you can’t help but feel a bit nervous in class with Arajin as Mahoro practically looks behind you and you hear some footsteps quickly approaching your classroom
“Looks like big boss is back in town! I wonder how long I’ll need to fight them to get it in their thick head how much I love them” he says kicking his feet as newer members look in confusion. The older one though know
“Oni-chan you better not hog them from me!” A huffy Mahoro grumbles
You really wish you could’ve wished for something else
Your having the feeling Arajin wishes the same
It seems they were right about having wishes always turn out in the worst of ways
Senya and Astḗr don’t seem to be doing it maliciously but rather out of obliviousness
But maybe it was both your faults for not asking for a straight forward wish from two entities that haven’t interacted with humans for centuries (or for in Astḗr’s case ever)

Bucchigiri?! × Reader Part 2!!
Okay so I'll probably do a part 3 haha
Matakara
✓ okay so
✓ he took interest in you the first time he saw you
✓ it was your smile that caught his attention that day
✓ you're probably in Minato Kai as well, but even if you were in Siguma he'd still try to talk to you (much to Zabus and Komaos dismay)
✓ like a Romeo and Juliet typa shit but not as depressing lmao
✓ always goes out of his way to help you with anything be it school work or with guys bothering you
✓ offered to teach you how to fight multiple times too but he prefers if you just call him for help instead
✓ biggest eyes when he saw you can actually fight really well (you threw a dude across the yard)
✓ follows you around like a dog (Golden Retriever kinda guy😙)
✓ wants you to join him and his friends for lunch
✓ started to fall for you when he realized how easily he could confide in you
✓ you knew everything from his childhood with Arajin to his brother being in juvie now
✓ talking about Arajin you're his sworn enemy now
✓ you notice how Matakara slowly started to dinstance himself even from you
✓ you worked together with Komao and Zabu to find out what happened to him and where he disappeared to
✓ you were so angry for having to rely on Arajin to get Matakara back while you couldn't do anything
✓ you tried to talk to him when he got back but he kept avoiding you
✓ and then Matakara started to beat people up
✓ and there wasn't a damn thing you could do when he suddendly was in front of you while you were out
✓ you were the last straw for Matakara to finally give in to Ichiya when he beat you up
✓ Matakara died internally that day when you didn't even fight back
✓ after the whole thing was over he apologized in tears to you
✓ cried more when you hugged him and accepted <3
✓ some general dating stuff now tho:
✓ always has his hands on you, either holding yours, your shoulder or your waist
✓ his favorite is when you intertwine your fingers and swing his hand around
✓ Y'all have matching nail polish Fight me on that!! Yours in green and he has his ring and pinky Finger on his left Hand in your eye colour!!
✓ Matakara isn't innocent at ALL either so he fricking knows what he is doing when you watch him work out
✓ "accidently" pulls his shirt up higher to show you his abs
✓ wants to show you how much stronger he got but he just wants you to feel his biceps
✓ "You can look at me all you want~" and nobodies gonna believe u that it's the same Matakara who acts like that
✓ he's legit gonna be the death of you when you put a hand on his cheek and he grins up at you with the adorable smile of his
Tumblr media
Outa
✓ you're prolly the help for the school nurse (that old guy in the "beach episode" lmaoo)
✓ you refused to join any gang yet wanted to do more than just your school work and he offered you to help him out so
✓ Outa, who joined that year with Marito and formed Siguma, brought some of their members over to the school infirmary to fix them up after a fight
✓ the school nurse wasn't there that time so you took over as well as you could
✓ he just watched from the corner the way you work
✓ only got interested in you when Minato Kai guys came to the nurses office too - starting a fight with the Siguma guys in the process
✓ but instead of being scared or overwhelmed you actually put them in their place and they waited in a line like kindergarden kids lol
✓ from then on you peaked his interest and he tried to be around you more
✓ always came to you to get fixed up or letting his fellow members get fixed up
✓ Marito got onto him pretty quickly and teased him about it
✓ you two Always talk about some random things, forgetting the time sometimes
✓ bro laughed his ahh off when he saw you holding fingers up like the school nurse too while checking up on someone
✓ he brings you home from school everytime he has the time and his schedule let's him
✓ always shares an umbrella w u because he knows you don't have one
✓ keeps you from the Siguma guys until y'all officially together bc even you can only take so much chaos😭
✓ talking about it, he confessed on the way to your home - nothing romantic though, he just asked you straight up
✓ if you squint reaaaaaaally well you might see a faint blush on his cheeks
✓ he subconciously pushes you behind him when there's danger around (Hid you from the view of Matakara beating Marito too)
✓ you probably had A LOT of trouble with Mahoro once she joined the school as well
✓ you being with Outa meant you being close to Marito too
✓ saw you as a love rival from then on
✓ you barely can hear now with the way she keeps shrieking into your ear if you're too close to Marito or he's visibly happy/laughing at something you said😭
✓ she didn't stop it either until she saw the way you and Outa looked at each other
✓ you're being tolerated now, she still doesn't like you tho
✓ but you didn't mind when you're walking with Outa, pinkies linked together because he isn't too big on PDA
✓ hugs you everytime you two are completely alone tho and gives forehead kisses <3
𝗕𝗢𝗡𝗨𝗦
Since Bucchigiri said "Screw gender norm" with their characters I wanted to make a Y/N who gives off the same vibe!
Tumblr media
✓Hiding behind a Bunny mask you're known to be the schools mascot
✓ are you a guy? Or a girl? Both or neither? Nobody knows besides you
✓ you have the whole school in your hands because your the most popular student there
✓ you're known for your pranks but also for the fact you don't hesitate to throw hands with anyone despite the gender or status
✓ people only ever heard you laugh and say a few little words IF u say anything at all (not even the voice could give some type of revelation on ur gender)
✓How can someone be so attractive and you never saw their face??

So I just finished watching Bucchigiri?!, and I wanted to dabble in a bit of Matakara fluff because he’s too cute 💙
Also I’m new to writing small Fics, so please be nice! Any helpful advice would be great! :)
Matakara Asamine x fem!reader
Matakara and you are walking around town after school one day, and one clumsy slip leads to a heated moment between the two of you.
————————————————————————
Matakara has been walking you home from school everyday for almost three weeks now.
He has to have a crush on you right? No guy would just start walking a girl home everyday! But it’s Matakara maybe he’s just being nice? Ever since you both were kids he was the sweetest!
He only started walking you home because some random thugs tried to hit on you one evening and just couldn’t take “No!” for an answer. Luckily Matakara was nearby. He saw the altercation and swept in like a knight in shining armor. He was so sweet, and his voice was so soft talking to you.
Ever since then your heart pounded in your chest and your face held a permanent blush when you saw him waiting in front of the school for you.
“Y/n! Hey!” Matakara is smiling and waving his large arm in the air so you notice him. It’s hard to not notice the guy.
Komao and Zabu are there too talking with their best friend. You wonder what they’re talking about because Matakara looks a bit flushed maybe even a little panicky? His friends are laughing and Zabu gives him a pat on the shoulder.
“Hi Matakara, Zabu, Komao! How are you doing?” You say smiling at the trio.
“We’re good, just needed to ask Matakara something before he walks you home today.” Zabu said with a lopsided smile looking at Matakara.
“Oh, well if there’s a meeting you all need to get to for Minato Kai I don’t mind walking home alone today. I’ll be just fine!” You say looking at Matakara with a smile. Trying to hide the disappointment if he can’t walk with you today.
“No!” Matakara said a little too loudly.
“I mean…sorry! There aren’t any meetings today the guys just had a small thing they needed to ask me! I can still walk with you!” Matakara puts his hand behind his head rubbing it looking a little flustered.
Zabu and Komao face the other way and it sounds like they start giggling with each other.
“Why don’t we head out Y/n? I’m sure these two giggling geese have something better to do.”
You chuckle a little bit, “Sounds good!”
As you both turn to walk away you hear Komao yell “Good luck Asamine!” The both of you immediately look back to them, but they are running the opposite direction from two of you.
You look up to Matakara “Good luck with what?”Wondering what that was about.
His eyebrow is twitching and his ears look a little pink.
“Nothing, they’re just being a little silly today.” He says avoiding eye contact with you.
Mmmm interesting.
Time passes as Matakara and you walk through the neighborhood. You really try to slow your walking a bit so you can have more time with him, but to no avail. Maybe you two can stop by the park or something so you can still have time to hang out with him?
“Y/n? Y/n?” Matakara is looking at you like he asked a question? Maybe?
“I’m sorry! I got lost in my head for minute there didn’t I? What were you saying?” A little embarrassing that you totally spaced out on your crush.
Way to go y/n, very smooth of you.
“I asked if you were feeling okay? You seem to be a little quiet today?” Matakara asks with concern written all over his face.
Shit!
“I’m okay really! Well…I m-mean. There is something I’ve been thinking about, but don’t worry please!” You say trying hard to not stutter but only mildly failing.
“Ah well, I won’t push you if you don’t want to talk about it. But, if it gets to be too much for you you can always talk to me.” He says with a smile so bright it could blind you.
Should I just come out and say it? I mean it couldn’t hurt right? Just a simple question.
Do you have feelings for me? Because I have feelings for you.
Oh god your heart is pounding and you can see the stairs leading down to the park near your house! I have to do it now when I have the courage!
Closer to the stairs now.
Wait I have to do it now! Now! Come on say something!
Matakara watches you and it looks like you’re having an argument with yourself in your own head.
You look so cute.
With your eyebrows scrunched tightly and your pink lips pursed, a blush on your cheeks. He can stare at you forever it feels like.
He’s always had a crush on you since grade school, but could never have the courage to go up and talk to you. Whenever the other kids started making fun of him in school for wanting to be a Honki person, you were always there standing up for him. Telling the kids to back off or you’ll beat them up. Then you and your family moved away and his world grew a little more dim. He still had his big brother though and he was happy.
Then all of sudden he saw you on the first day of high school as first-years. And wow he remembered you being pretty, but with age you became absolutely beautiful. You were in a different class and he never had a good moment to say hi, so he had to wait.
Unfortunately it had to be after he beat up some thugs for harassing you, so maybe not the best way to reconnect with your childhood crush. But he saved you and that’s what matters the most. He decided to walk you home everyday incase those guys were around or they brought more friends, but it was mostly an excuse to be able to see you.
It was amazing getting to talk to you and learn more about you as a person. That’s when he started to fall even harder for you.
After realizing his feelings he confided in Zabu and Komao. They would not stop pestering him with questions of you and when he was gonna tell you how he felt, or ask you on a date.
He definitely shouldn’t have told them he was gonna ask you out today! Since they saw him that morning it was constant giggling, and they were counting down the hours and minutes until the final bell rang.
All of a sudden you take a few steps ahead of him and quickly turn on your heel to face him.
What you both didn’t realize was that you got little too close to the first step leading down the stairs and as you turned your foot was right at the edge. You lost balance and felt your body going backwards.
Oh…no…
You close your eyes and hope the impact won’t hurt too bad. It feels like your heart stopped beating and everything is going in slow motion.
“Y/n!” A hand wraps around your wrist and pulls you forward with so much strength it feels like your arm will rip out of the socket.
Your body is pulled back up into a solid mass with an “Omph” your face is then buried into cloth and warmth. Your eyes are still closed, your right hand is layed flat against something hard. Yet your left hand is being held by Matakara.
He saved you, again.
Wow am I really making this a habit now?
He places his other hand on your back holding you close.
“Y/n are you okay?!” You feel his body pressed up against yours, you can smell him (he smells so good), and you can hear his heart beating so fast matching yours.
“…yes.” As you look up at him and lock eyes.
He has the most beautiful blue eyes you have ever seen, deep and blue like the ocean on a sunny day. You can get lost at sea looking in them and never want to come back.
His face is so close… I want to get closer. I want more…
You slowly tiptoe to reach his lips.
He leans down ever so slowly.
Your lips are only centimeters away. It feels like you both stopped breathing.
Almost there…I can almost feel his lips……
“AAAAAHHHHHH!”
The two of you jump a foot apart awkwardly.
That was the most ear piercing scream you both have ever heard in your lives erupts from right behind the two of you at the park! Some little kids are running around playing.
The moment is ruined!
“Y/n I’m sorry! Ishouldn’thavedonethat! Wait! Um…what I mean is I’m not sorry for saving you from almost falling I-I’m sorry for after grabbing you!” Matakara is bowing low, eyes closed, face looking to the ground.
You giggle softly.
He looks up at you very fast giving him whiplash.
“Matakara please relax? It’s okay, no need to apologize.” You look at him with the softest smile only reserved for him.
He straightens up and looks down to the ground.
“Asamine, will you go on a date with me?”
He looks at you so fast, it makes your head spin. He doesn’t say a word for a solid minute at least!
You walk up to him “Hellooo…?” He finally blinks and grabs your hands.
“Yes!” With the biggest smile you’ve ever seen on his face and a cute blush across his cheeks and ears.
“You beat me to it though! I was going to ask you out on a date too!” He says moving back and rubbing the back of his head shyly (cute).
You look at him and wonder what his plan was? Hmmm you can ask him later!
“Meet me here tomorrow at 11am, okay?” You tell him eyes shining brightly.
“Yes! I’ll see you tomorrow!” Matakara says full of excitement.
And a smile so big it hurts his cheeks for the rest of the evening.

Could you do a Mataka x reader x slight creepy Shindo. The reader is Arajins sister that just got discharged from the hospital and is cleared to go to school. (They are part of the reason their family moved back) They’ve had a childhood crush on Mataka, but they met Shindo in a book store. He thinks winning Arajin is through his sister, or threaten them.
This got my brain buzzing with ideas! Here's the first part, I'll probably break it down to 3 parts total!
A Chance Meeting and a Declaration of Protection?!
Summary: You've come back to your old hometown for a fresh start and a shot at a normal life; too bad being reunited with your childhood crush and attracting the attention of an unhinged gang leader is proving a detriment to your health in more ways than one! wc: 2.3 A/N: This takes place in an AU without honki people/magic, and tw for future chapters for Shindo being a creep/yandere coded because...I mean come on. Makatara/f!Reader/Shindo (mostly one sided though)
“Come on, just a little more…”
Standing on your tiptoes, you stretch your arm as high as you can, but the novel atop the highest shelf is still out of reach.
“Ugh, I should have asked Macchan to come and help me.”
“My, my, what do we have here?”
You feel a presence behind you before you hear their voice; at first you had assumed Arajin had returned to the bookstore to walk you home. Your mother had made him your personal escort of sorts and your brother had obeyed, walking you to and from the few places you felt well enough to explore.
After spending so much time in a hospital bed, being outside was almost overwhelming, but you also felt restless. When you found out your favorite bookstore was still open after all these years, you could have cried. Now as you stand on somewhat wobbly legs, vision a touch fuzzy, the last thing you need is stress. Where was Arajin? And who was this strange man smirking at you like you were some amusing joke?
“You must realize the owner has a ladder for this exact reason.”
“Huh?”
He taps the spine of the book, easily reaching over your head. “This book, you want it, yes?”
“Oh, yes.” You nod, somewhat hesitantly; your eyes scan the aisle, but it would seem there’s no one else around.  Briefly, your eyes linger on his braided hair and light eyes; he wasn’t wearing a school uniform, just a plain, gray sweatshirt and matching pants. You were certain he was around your age though.
“What are you staring at?”
“Oh sorry, I was thinking, um, did you want the book?” You smile apologetically, hoping your embarrassment wasn’t obvious. “I didn’t mean to be in the way.”
“No, no, I was amused by you hopping like a bunny.”
Your smile falls. “Uh, I guess I’ll just go on and ask for assistance then-”
But the stranger takes the book, holds it up over your head with a sickly sweet smile.
“I wouldn’t leave a lady struggling. Here, take it.”
“Oh, thank you.”
But before you can take the book, he holds it up even higher. You frown, confused; is he just messing with you?
“I thought you were giving me the book?”
“Isn’t it a bit rude to ask for favors from a stranger?” He asks innocently. “My name is Shindo  Akutaro; might I ask for your name?”
“Tomoshibi.” You say curtly. “May I please have that book, Shindo-san?”
“I suppose.”
The book is unceremoniously dropped and you fail to catch it; the novel lands on the hard tiled floor and you slowly kneel to pick it up. Bending and stooping too quickly makes you light headed and your limbs feel like noodles at the least bit of sudden motion.
“You don’t need to kneel before me for such a small favor.”
Shindo’s smile widens until you see his canines; he looks down at you over the rim of his glasses, eyes shining with an odd sort of glee, as though you’re doing something very silly and he has to hold back laughter. You straighten up, standing up too quickly; for a second, you teeter on unsteady feet and your hand grabs the shelf for support.
“You look very pale; are you sick? In that case, maybe you ought to be home, not hopping around.”
“I spent enough time cooped up.” You rub your forehead gently with your fingers, holding the book to your chest. “I should be able to manage shopping for a book.”
It’s more than your desire to purchase a new novel though; this book store is a place of comfort. You used to spend hours either browsing the selection or sitting in the cafe area to read the newest addition to your collection. It wasn’t like you could run around with Arajin and Matakara, as badly as you wanted to. Even now, you’ve only just begun to feel what you assume for others is something like “normal”.
“It’s not funny.”
Shindo blinks, looking vaguely perturbed as you stare up at him defiantly; suddenly, you feel very irritated. Whether it’s due to his prior teasing or your own frustration, you’re not sure.
“Thanks, I suppose, for getting the book.” You say quietly. “But I don’t appreciate a perfect stranger laughing at me. I never asked to be sick and I didn’t ask for your help. Excuse me, but my brother will be here soon to take me home and I need to go buy this.”
With a slight nod, you scurry away to the register on the other side of the store; as he hands you the receipt and your new book, a soft chime signals someone has entered the store. You turn around, met with the sight of a disgruntled Arajin and-
“Macchan?” You almost drop your bag and wallet. “What are you doing here?”
“I bumped into Ara-chan, so I thought I’d tag along.” Matakara waves with a sunny smile. “You’re doing okay? You haven’t had to go back to the hospital or anything?”
“I told you she was fine.” Arajin walks over to you and takes your hand. “Come on, let’s get going,”
“You’re in a hurry for someone who was late to get me.”
“Mom asked me to pick up a few things for dinner.” Arajin explains with a sigh, leading you to the sliding doors, Matakara following behind dutifully. “I figured you’d want more time anyway; you could have called.”
“You could have called if you were going to be gone later.” You grumble, slipping your hand from his grasp. “Arajin, slow down, I can’t walk that fast.”
“Do you want me to take that?” Matakara comes to your side. “Here, let me carry your bag. You look kinda pale.”
“So I’ve heard.” You sigh; of course he had to come and see you winded from the most menial task. “Thanks Macchan, but I got it.”
“Come on, we need to get home.” Arajin gives Matakara a look. “Don’t you have to get going too?”
“I can stay.” Matakara turns to you. “You don’t mind, do you? I feel like we haven’t had a chance to catch up since you moved back. It’s been too long.”
“No kidding; honestly I almost didn’t recognize you when you came to visit.” You chuckle and pat the top of Matakara’s head. “I used to be taller than you.”
“Um, yeah.”
Matakara’s face flushes a bit; it’s nice to see he hasn’t changed too much from the bashful sweetheart you remember. Now, if only you had changed as much; you both envy and admire your old friend’s strong build.
“Don’t strain yourself too much tomorrow.” Arajin looks over his shoulder at you; he’s still looking a bit grumpy, but his eyes soften as they meet yours. “My class is basically across the hall from you and the teacher’s already know what to expect.”
“I know, I’ll be okay!”
You sound more confident than you feel; from what Arajin has said about his time attending the academy, the place sounds less like an institution of education and more a playground for delinquents. Still, you have limited options and if you have to attend a school in the area, you feel better knowing at least two people already.
“I’m in the same class as Ara-chan; you can come to me if there’s a problem. If you want to.” Matakara says with an oddly serious expression. “I’ll be there, so you don’t have to worry about anything.”
“I’m not worried.” You lie, your smile feeling like a mask stretched over your face. “Thank you, Macchan. I don’t want to bother you though, you and Arajin have your own lives. I’m sure I’ll be totally fine. I’m so pitiful, even bullies don’t want to bug me.”
“No you’re not.” Matakara frowns. “You’re not pitiful, you're strong. I always thought so. You should too.”
You’re not sure how to respond; Arajin makes a choking sound deep from his throat and puts his hands over his ears.
“Ugh, I can not listen to this! You two walk back together, I’m going on ahead.”
“Huh?!”
“Arajin!” You gap as your brother stalks off down the sidewalk without a glance back at you. “That little shit! He’s lucky I can’t chase him down. Ugh, sorry Macchan, he’s being such a brat.”
“No, it’s okay.”
“It is not.” You huff, crossing your arms, glaring at the dot that’s now Arajin’s head. “He’s been on edge ever since we came back. I get him being angry with me, but you haven’t done anything.”
“Why would Ara-chan be angry with you?”
“Not me exactly, just,” You unfold your arms and they hang at your sides. “A big reason we came back was for my treatment. Mom’s settled in fine but Arajin…it’s not my place to speak for him, but I know being here is frustrating.”
“But it’s not your fault you’re sick.”
“Still, I think…he’d never say so, but I think he resents me. Arajin always has to deal with mom putting me first because of my poor health.”
Arajin never says it, but you can tell he gets frustrated; he never asked for a sister who constantly needed to be minded and tended to. Even now as you’ve gotten older, he’s still being pushed into the role of caretaker. You don’t want him to feel like he’s responsible for how you do when you go back to attending in person classes.
“He brings a lot of it on himself, but I know he worries about me. Anyway, I don’t want to burden him or you.” You muster up a genuine smile. “I’m going to take it one day at a time, but I can do this. I have to at least try; I can’t let it all be for nothing.”
“You,” Matakara pauses, gazing at you with wide eyes and parted lips. “You haven’t changed at all.”
You can’t help snort. “Seriously? I know I said I wanted to toughen up and all, but-”
“You’ve gotten even cooler.”
Maybe it’s a good thing Arajin decided to leave the two of you in the dust; if he saw the way Matakara was staring at you, you might have had Arajin ready to drag you away. Before you can say anything, Matakara gently takes the bag from your loosened grip.
“For the record, I never thought looking after you was a burden. I want you to ask me for help. Matakara confesses shyly. “I’m stronger now.”
“I noticed.” Your eyes flicker to his arms; his muscles are basically straining against the thin cotton of his worn t-shirt. “Are you sure? I really don’t have trouble carrying something that small.”
“I want to!” Matakara insists; he almost whines and your heart skips a beat as he pouts down at you. “I could even carry you if you needed me to.”
“Okay, okay, I got it.” At this point the thought of your crush carrying you around in his absurdly strong arms is making you so lightheaded, you might end up needing to be hauled home anyway. On the bright side, you doubt you’re looking pallid; heat radiates from your face as Matakara walks with you. He walks in time with your steps; if you asked, he would probably take your hand to lead you home.
“I bet you’re really popular.” You nudge his shoulder. “Arajin told me you’re like, a class leader or something?”
“He did?”
“Uh huh. But don’t tell him I told you.” You put a finger to your lips. “If you do, I’ll tell him about how you cried after stealing one of my horror novels.”
“I didn’t know it was a scary book! I thought it was about a magic doll.”
“To be fair, it was brought to life with occult magic. I still can’t believe you threw out my baby doll.”
“...I thought it would come to life and haunt you.”
“That’s right, I was so mad!” You recall with a giggle. “Do dolls still freak you out?”
“No...”
“Aw,” You feel a bit guilty at the kicked puppy dog look on Matakara’s face. “I’m sorry for teasing you.”
Matakara remains silent for a few seconds and you feel anxious: was that too far? It had been a long time since the two of you were able to talk like this. Perhaps you were getting ahead of yourself, acting so familiar with him.
“Matakara? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hassle you. I won’t actually tell Arajin about the doll thing.”
“It’s not that.”
Matakara fidgets with the handle of the shopping bag; the sun is setting now. The soft golden light makes his eyes almost sparkle; as if getting enough oxygen wasn’t already a concern. Now you had to have your breath stolen by the warm gaze holding your attention captive.
“It’s just…I don’t want you to think of me that way. I’m not that weak cry baby anymore.”
“I never thought you were.” You tell him earnestly. “I shouldn’t have teased you.”
“You really don’t get it.” Matakara’s voice lowers. “Even though you were so sick, you looked out for me. Now I want to do that for you. I want you to see me as someone strong you can depend on.”
“Macchan, you don’t have to look out for me: that’s not your responsibility.”
“Do I…look different to you?”
“What?”
Matakara inches a bit closer, as if he's afraid to startle you, before taking yours hands in his own. You can feel callouses on his warm palms are warm; his cheeks are pink and his stare is hard with determination. Abruptly, you're reminded of that tenderhearted boy who would rush to your side every time you so much as hinted at being fatigued.
"Do you trust me?"
"O-of course." You study his urgent gaze warily. "I always have."
“I could-no. I will protect you. If anyone tries to bother you tomorrow, you come straight to me. I’ll deal with them. I'll be there; as long as you can trust in that, I can only get stronger." Matakara squeezes your hands gently. "Believe in me and I'll protect you with that strength."
You’re taken aback; you’ve never heard Matakara speak this way to you or at all. Not that you don’t appreciate it; on the contrary, your tummy is doing somersaults. With that said, you can’t help wondering: just how much did your friend change these past few years? And what exactly is he expecting he’ll need to protect you from?

You and bucchigiri at a festival!?
You had somehow gotten a few members of both minato kai and siguma to come to a festival happening in a neighborhood town.
You were in a yukata and waiting for the others to show up in the meeting spot you had agreed to, you had a empty bag to hold things for the festival and there was some food you packed for everyone.
The first 2 there was Hague and with him was jabashiri, Hague was in a yukata but jabashiri wasn't and was in regular clothes.
" hello, y/n-chan. Are we first ones here?"
" yah, matakara just texted me saying that they were almost here."
" yo! Y/n-chan!"
You turned to look as matakara, komao and zabu walked over, zabu and jabashiri walked towards each other scowling.
Hague grabbed jabashiri's arm trying to stop him from fighting while matakara stopped zabu, you walked over and grabbed both of them by the ears scolding them like a mother.
After they both were scowling and growling at each other's and covering their ears that you had grabbed.
Komao excitedly went over to you to show you his yukata even though it wasn't on right.
" y/n-chan, look at my yukata, me and matakara went together to get ours."
" it's looks nice... but you don't have it on right."
" huh? I don't, can you help me?"
While you were helping komao and showing him how to do it, marito and outa showed up.
" y/n-teen!"
Marito picked you up as you just finished up fixing komao's yukata.
" hello, marito, outa."
Marito put you down and looked at the group, marito had on a yukata but had one sleeve off showing his butterfly tattoo on his upper arm.
" you need to pull up your sleeve, marito."
" huh? Can you help me, y/n-teen?"
You raise a brow at him before he made puppy eyes, you sigh and put his arm through the sleeve and fixed the front.
You didn't notice marito giving a smirk to the others as you fixed his yukata.
" are we missing anyone?"
Zabu asked looking around at the group.
" no, arajin-chan isn't here yet."
Matakara said checking his phone to see if arajin had texted him.
After a while arajin and mahoro showed up in nice clothes.
Mahoro left arajin's side to run up to her brother.
Everyone was here and it was time to go have fun at the festival.
" y/n-chan? What's in the bag?"
" oh, I brought it for anything we get at the festival and also brought some food for everyone."
It was decided that the group would eat before going to the festival.
Hague had brought a blanket for watching the fireworks that would happen later in the night, the blanket was laid out and everyone sat down to eat.
Matakara, zabu and komao sat on one side of the blanket and marito, jabashiri, outa, hague sat on the other side, you are arajin and mahoro just sat in between them.
You sat in between zabu and outa while you passed out the food before you started eating.
" I don't know why they dragged me here to hang out with siguma boys."
Outa wiped off some of the food that had gotten on your cheek using a napkin.
Your cheeks got a bit rosy at his action before you thanked him, zabu gave outa a glare scowling at him.
Jabashiri didn't like that and threw some of his trash at zabu, which caused both to get up and start arguing but you with the help of matakara stopped them before they could start fighting.
After everyone was done eating, matakara and arajin threw away the trash while you helped hague refold the blanket and put it in your bag.
And now it was time to enjoy the festival.
Arajin tried to show off to mahoro but she was walking next to her brother.
Arajin stopped at a game booth to try and show off to mahoro, mahoro hugged marito's arm.
" onii-san! Can you win me that bunny?"
Marito had a unimpressed look on his face before he removed his arm from her hug.
" win it yourself."
You, arajin, komao, hague and matakara all played the ball toss game booth.
Arajin and you won, arajin offers mahoro the small stuff bunny she had told marito she wanted but she had a bit of a disgusted look on her face.
Mahoro shoved the stuffed bunny in your bag, before walking off back to her brother.
Marito grabbed your wrist and pulled you along to a game booth, matakara followed as he didn't trust marito alone with you after arajin joined siguma.
" y/n-teen! If I win you'll join siguma."
" no, y/n-chan won't join siguma."
Matakara and marito played against each other before the game ended in a tie.
" matakara, let's go another round and if I win y/n-chan will be mine and join siguma."
You walked off letting them play against each other while you walked back to the others.
Komao was upset because he was wanting a cat stuffed animal.
You bought him a pretzel to cheer him up a bit, komao shared it with you.
You glance around at the others seeing if they were having fun.
Jabashiri and zabu were buting heads again but before you could move to stop them but outa had already done so.
Jabashiri and zabu glared at each other before they went to a game booth with a shooting game.
They did best out of 3 and zabu won 2 rounds and jabashiri won 1, jabashiri walked off angry.
Zabu walked over to you and komao, he gave both of you the prize he had won.
" here, I don't want them, I just got them when I beat jabashiri."
" thank you, zabu!"
" thank you."
You can see a bit of blush on zabu's cheek before he made a little huf crossing his arms and looking away.
Hague walked up to the you timidly as zabu was scaring him.
" have you seen jabashiri, he stormed off and we can't find him."
Zabu rolled his eyes at hague.
" I don't know nor do I care."
" I'll help you look for him."
" thank you, y/n-chan."
You walked around looking for jabashiri, while you were looking around for him you saw a lot of people but didn't see him.
You got shoved into a bit of a alleyway in between the wooden booths, you sigh as you didn't see jabashiri in the crowd.
" what are you doing here?!"
You turned to look at jabashiri when you heard his voice before he slammed his fist next to your head.
" I was helping hague look for you."
You heard multiple guys groaning around the corner behind behind the booths.
You look at coner and so did jabashiri.
" umm..let's get back to the others, the fireworks will be going off soon."
" yah whatever, let's go."
You and jabashiri walked back to the others, and played a few more games and eat some festive treats.
Komao played almost every game, you and matakara would cheer him up after losing most of them.
Until at a hard game everyone lost at komao won and got a big prize.
" I won!"
He looked at you with excitement and stars in his eyes as he shows you that he won and rubing it in some of the others faces.
You smile at him before you pat his head.
" you did it, I'm so proud for you!"
You praise him and he looked at you with the happiest look on his face.
Matakara quickly went over to you like a puppy.
" the bag is getting full and is probably getting heavy, can I carry it for you."
" oh sure, thank you matakara."
You said before he took the bag form your shoulder and carried it on his arm, you got on your toes to pat his head.
Marito walked over to you and his sleeve had fallen back down showing his butterfly tattoo, you walked over to pull it back up over his shoulder.
" didn't I just fix this."
" yah, you have cold hands."
" I know."
Zabu unwrapped the jacket that was around his waist and put it over your shoulders.
" there."
"Aww zabu."
" shut up, komao!"
You giggle at a bit as they bickered at each other, zabu had rosey cheeks.
Boom!
Arajin and Hague jumped at the firework going off.
You turned to look up at the colors in the sky.
Hague spoke with jabashiri before he walked over to you and nervously and gently took your hand and walked away from the group with jabashiri following.
Hague led you a bit away from the festival up a hill.
" Hague? What are we doing here?"
" this is the best place to watch the fireworks."
You smile at him before looking up as a few more fireworks go off.
" why did you run off with y/n-chan!"
Komao said as he ran up the hill with the others following.
Hague got nervous and jabashiri stepped in front of him.
You sigh at them as outa stepped in between them stopping them from fighting.
You watch the firework show go off for the hill sitting on the blanket hague had brought with him.
You sat next to matakara, he had a arm behind you which you were leaning against watching the fireworks go off.
" there so beautiful."
" so are you."
" what?"
" nothing!"
After a few minutes of watching the fireworks going off the show ends.
Matakara carries your bag while you helped hague refold the blanket.
You yawn and stretched before marito grabbed your sides scaring you, you could feel mahoro glaring at you as marito's hands were on your side.
" are you tried? I can carry you back to the train station or is there a place closer where your staying the night."
Outa asked as he walked over to you putting a hand on your back.
" oh! Me, matakara and zabu are staying in a club house nearby, let's have a sleepover, y/n-chan!"
Komao said very excited looking at you before he side eyed outa, jabashiri, marito and Hague.

Imagine if arajin and matakara kept senya and ichiya but you still didn't know about the genies as you couldn't see them
Well
Not fully
You, arajin and matakara were sitting in one of y'all's rooms talking and chatting about things to get back like the old times when you were children.
Ichiya was sitting by the window ignoring the rest of you glancing over every so often glancing over you guys and senya who was laying on his side by you and arajin.
When you looked over at the window right at ichiya with a slight confusion look on your face, catching them off guard as you couldn't see the honki people in the room but was looking right at one.
"Y/n-chan? Is everything alright?"
" yah, just thought I saw something, probably just a blue bird."
Matakara glanced over before him and arajin looked at each other, senya and ichiya sat up looking at you as it seemed you could see them just a bit if they got in your your peripheral vision.
Part. 2 where you meet the genie?🤨

Happy valentine's day everyone!
Valentine's day one shot with bucchigiri boys, I'll post white day later.
Tumblr media
The day before valentine's day:
You were walking past one of the outside vending machine and heard a loud bang.
You look over and see jabashiri and Hague by the veding machine, jabashiri had pushed the vending machine.
You walk over to see what's up.
" hey, jabashiri what's up?"
" tsk! There out of thing I was going to get."
You walk over and looked into the machine seeing that it was out of the dark chocolate bar.
" is it good, I haven't tried it yet?"
" yah, I guess."
" I like the white chocolate ones."
You smile at them before you left to go to your class.
You sit down next to zabu and komao.
" so what kind of chocolate are you going to get us? I think it would be cool if you got me a cookie cake or a chocolate brownie."
You saw zabu roll his eyes a bit at komao before looking at you before looking at a small chocolate bar on his desk making a small nod towards it so you would notice.
" y/n-teen!"
You 3 looked at the door as marito slammed open the door right as the bell rings for lunch.
Komao grabbed your arm and marito grabbed the other, it was a very short game of tug of war before marito kicked komao and picked you up.
Marito carried you with outa walking next to him, they walked off the school grounds and to a store.
Marito put you down quickly before he ran into the store holding your wrist.
you stumbled a bit following him, outa made sure that you didn't fall.
Marito was putting a snacks into the basket and showed you a box of chocolate cookies with animals on them.
" I'll be expecting these tomorrow, y/n-teen!"
" okay, outa which one's do you like?"
" this one."
You smile at the mochi chocolates outa had in his hand.
" y/n-chan!"
You turned to look at matakara who was panting as if he had been running.
" matakara? Are you okay?"
You ask him as you quickly went to him checking on him.
" yah, komao told me what happened."
Matakara hissed out looking at marito and outa.
you not wanting a fight, you grab matakara's hand and walked out of the store.
Matakara soon calmed down and walked you home and you both went your separate ways near your home.
When you reach the front of your house and in front of your home was shindo.
Shindo noticed you before you could turn and run for it.
" ah, y/n-san."
" shindo, what are you doing here?"
He took your hand bringing it up to his lips and kissing the back of your hand looking up at you.
" flattering, what do you want?"
" you know what tomorrow is?"
" yes, valentine's day. I'll get you some chocolate now go."
Shindo smiled and kissed the back of your hand one last time before he let go of your hand and walked away.
You sigh and walk in your house and upstairs into your room before you fall onto your bed.

Thank you thank you so much for taking my request! I wish there were more Bucchigiri fics out there. I love it so far! Matakara needs more love! And Shindo being a rival is perfect!
I'm glad you're enjoying it! Here's part 2! (ngl this might end up being a 4 or even 5 part story. I'm getting invested)
A Whole New World! An Unknown Admirer and an Unknown Enemy!
Matakara/f!Reader/Shindo, Pt.2
Summary: Your first day at Ichizu high has finally arrived! As you take the next step towards your long awaited fresh start, Matakara reflects on the past and looks forward toward a future with you and him, finally no longer separated. Meanwhile, Shindo is making plans of his own... wc: 2.6 a/n: There's a lot of references from Disney's version of Aladdin because of course there is. Enjoy!
“Arajin, you couldn’t have done worse if you had thrown the rock at her head.”
“It was supposed to be romantic! What do you know?” Arajin has half a mind to drop the book bag he had offered to carry for you. “It’s not like you have any experience.”
“I have common sense.” You retort lightly. “If you want to get anywhere with this Mahoro, you can’t ignore her feelings. Reign it in and don’t be so pushy.”
“Yeah, I know.” Arajin hangs his head, trudging alongside you; his frown only grows deeper as the school gates come into view. “Are you sure you don’t want to meet up for lunch?”
“What, you’re not eating with your girlfriend?”
“Ha ha.” Arajin hands over your bag, shouldering his own with a yawn. “Listen, keep a low profile, okay?” He scans the entrance gates with narrowed eyes. “It’s a mad house but you should be fine if you keep your head down and…keep close to Matakara.”
Your eyebrows raise in surprise. “Is that your way of giving us your blessing?”
“Ugh, stop! Look, if people know you’re cool with him, they’re not going to bother you.”
“Maybe you ought to take your own advice; stop being such a big baby and start talking to him again.”
“Dammit, will you butt out?”
“I’m only saying, it’s obvious Macchan cares a lot about you. Can’t you just-?”
“Isn’t it bad enough we had to come back here?” Arajin cuts you off tersely. “The past is the past. Drop it.”
“Fine.” Your hand tightens around the strap of your book bag and you pointedly turn away to the Ichizu high’s doors. “I’m sorry I messed everything up for you. I didn’t ask to be here either, but I am and I’m going to make the best of it. If you ask me, the only one hung up on the past here is you.”
“Wait, I didn’t mean it like-”
“I’ll see you at home.”
You don’t give Arajin a chance to say anything else, opting to hurry off to your homeroom, wherever it was; the map Arajin had sketched out for you was still in your bag’s front pocket, but you didn’t want to do anything to slow down. You had to get away from him and the regretful look on your brother’s face. Even if he’s sorry, you can’t stand Arajin’s stubbornness; your nerves are rubbed raw and all you want to do is get through this day quickly. After the first day, surely you’ll feel more at ease being back in a classroom with other people. You don’t need your brother lecturing you to add to your anxieties.
“Good morning!”
You flinch; you were hoping you wouldn’t run into Matakara before getting settled. As soon as you see him speed walking down the hall towards you, two unfamiliar boys trailing after him, all you can think about is how nice it would be to latch onto him and stick by his side for the remainder of the day.
“Good morning.” You wave and attempt a smile. “Hey, am I anywhere close to 2-C?”
“Sure, I’ll walk you.” Matakara skids to a halt in front of you, bright eyed and breathing a touch labored. “I can give you a tour later. These are my friends, Zabu Kakeru and Sakigake Komao, we’re all in the same class as Ara-chan.”
“I apologize in advance for any trouble my brother might cause.” You tell them with a sheepish smile. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Yo.” Zabu regards you curiously. “You’re that shrimp’s sister?”
“Huh, I was expecting you to look prettier.” Sakigake looks you up and down. “Matakara wouldn’t shut up about you all week, so I kinda assumed you’d be a supermodel or something.”
“Hey, knock it off!” Matakara looks at you with a shaky smile. “He’s kidding, really, I was just telling them how we went way back and, er, you know, I was excited we’d finally be going to the same school.”
“You already seem less annoying than Shorty.” Zabu smirks at you from over Matakara’s shoulder. “Where is the brat anyway?”
“I told my brother dearest I could find my own way to my homeroom. He’s probably already in his class now.” You unzip your bag’s front pocket and take out a folded up piece of notebook paper. “I’m guessing he didn’t make the best impression.”
“Aw, don’t listen to Zabu, he skipped breakfast.” Matakara sidles up to you, looking over your arm to scan the crudely drawn map. “Did Ara-chan make this?”
“You can tell?” You’re a bit impressed. “I guess it looks pretty similar to those old treasure maps he’d make up. See?” You move in closer to show Matakara the place Arajin had marked your classroom with a big, bold ‘x’. “X marks the spot.”
“Thi-this looks about right, but it only shows you how to get to your homeroom.” Matakara moves back a few steps. “Why don’t you let us show you around?”
“Us?” Sakigake grins, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “Sweet, now we have a reason to cut class!”
“Since when do we need a reason?” Zabu snorts. “I wouldn’t mind ditching the first period.”
“Um, I really shouldn’t.” You speak up carefully. “I don’t know if Macchan told you, but I’m a bit easily winded. I wouldn’t want to slow you guys down and I really should stick to my schedule.”
“Lame.” Sakigake pouts. “Matakara said you were cool.”
“He did?” You eye your old friend with a half smile. “Sorry to disappoint you, but believe me, he’s exaggerating.”
“We could give you a tour during lunch.” Matakara offers, face flushing slightly. “I was hoping we could all hang out, maybe do something after school? You said if we ever attended the same school we’d do stuff together, like get lunch or study and all that…”
“I did?”
Matakara nods quickly. “You pinky swore.”
“Well, I can’t break a pinky promise.” You’re beaming; somehow, he always knows just what to say to get you back in good spirits and you feel like you’ve gotten your second wind. “Alright, I’ll drop by your homeroom for lunch period, but if you change your mind and just want to be with your buddies-”
“Not a chance; I want you to get the whole high school experience! We’re all going to grab food at the cafeteria and picnic on the rooftop, you’ll see, it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
You don’t need convincing. “I’m looking forward to it. I’ll see you at lunch then.”
“Awesome.” Matakara grins. “No take backs, okay?”
You make your way to your homeroom, waving over your shoulder at the three boys; when you turn the corner, Zabu and Sakigake glance at one another as Matakara stands there, hand still waving despite you not being in his line of sight any longer. The expression on his face is similar to one might make if they were beat silly over the head a dozen times with a sack of bricks.
“Why do I feel like we’re gonna be third and fourth wheels?” Sakigake leans over to whisper in Zabu’s ear. “Cause I won’t be able to keep my lunch down if those two start going at it at his desk.”
“Ew.”
“Sorry guys; you don’t mind me volunteering you for the tour, do you?” Matakara finally regains some semblance of awareness and smiles at the two boys bashfully. “She’s putting on a brave face, but I know she’s feeling nervous being here.”
“It’s fine.” Zabu shrugs. “Are you sure she’d want to hang around with us though?”
“Huh? Of course.” Matakara says simply. “You guys are awesome”
“Cut the crap.” Zabu crosses his arms, but he can’t contain a small smile.
“Zabu, Sakigake, I really would appreciate you guys helping me make her feel welcome here.” Matakara grins softly. “I guess I’m hoping if anything happens, you two will have her back like how we look out for each other. I’d like that.”
“Alright, alright, we gotcha.” Sakigake thumps Matakara on the back between his shoulder blades. “Let’s see how things go; you know, she might end up making friends in her class though?”
“Oh, right.” Matakara hadn’t really thought of that. “I guess. But until then, I want to do as much as I can to help her until she’s settled. She’s a really good person, you’ll see when you get to know her a bit.”
Matakara remembers you were all but bedridden and barely able to walk past your own front yard for most of the time he knew you; if he wanted to see you, he would have to go to your bedside or sit with you in the backyard where Yayako had planted you a small plot of veggies to help keep you occupied. You spent a good amount of time there, trying to soak in the sun and the fresh air, a book in your lap and Matakara glued to your side, following along or listening to you read aloud. You never failed to ask him how he was doing, how his brother was, ushering him to take home any of the vegetables you spent so much time tending to with the little strength you could muster to do so. You, who seemed so small and frail in spite of being a head taller than Matakara and with a much thicker skin, had no shortage of time or energy for him to come to you for advice or to wipe away his tears. Back in those days, he admired Arajin, borderline idolized him, but you were something else entirely in Matakara’s eyes.
When you moved away, Matakara cried until his eyes were raw and his stomach ached and then he cried some more. Now you’re here, finally able to be out and about like you always wished you could do and attending Ichizu with him. It’s like a dream come true; Matakara could hardly contain his own joy when your somber expression brightened at his offer to meet up. He’s essentially bound now to make sure you enjoy yourself at Ichizu high. Even at this moment as he listens to Zabu and Sakigake go over what they should do after school ends, Matakara wants to rush out to your classroom and take a seat at your side and stay there for the rest of the day. Really, how can he do anything else when you give him such a blindingly gorgeous smile? A smile like that should be protected at any cost; Matakara is almost ashamed at how eager he is for you to turn to him for support the moment you feel any discomfort or unease with your new surroundings.
“I should be wishing her good luck and for her to make a lot of new friends.” Matakara slumps at his desk, hardly conscious of the rest of the world around him. Not even Arajin’s cold shoulder in response to his morning greeting phased him, at least not as much as it would have before your arrival. “I thought I was over being so childish. I’ll have to be careful not to get too clingy; we’re not little kids anymore and it’s not as if I can keep her all to myself.”
Matakara buries his face into his arms; he can feel his cheeks burning. In spite of admonshing himself for getting carried away, he simply can't force you out of his head. It doesn’t help that you somehow managed to become even cuter over the span of five years. No, scratch that: cute doesn’t cut it. The sensation of you leaning in slightly to show him the hand drawn map had nearly caused Matakara to freeze up just from the feeling of your shoulder pressing against his.
“So pretty. I remember her being cute but now? I mean, seriously…she has those eyes and that hair and…that smile...”
Matakara exhales; imagining your warm, gentle smile alone is making him lightheaded. All those times Matakara spent leaning on you, head on your shoulder, so brazenly nuzzled against your side and he had nearly done so again out of habit or perhaps instinct only minutes before.
“She smells nice too. I still wish we had the same homeroom. If I asked, maybe she would read to me again and let me hold her.” Matakara presses his face harder into his arms, pretending he has you in them, your own arms wrapped around his neck, his mind somehow hearing your voice low and soft in his ear. “Wanted to hold her so bad…she’s so pretty and smells so good."
“Matakara Asamine?”
“Asamine-san, wake up, roll call.”
There’s a tap on Matakara’s shoulder from the student seated behind him and he raises his head; everyone is staring at him. Had he been asleep? How many times had the teacher said his name? Even Arajin is turned in his seat, looking his way but turns his head immediately when they make eye contact. After a moment, Matakara finds his voice to call out a hasty response.
“Here!”
The teacher goes ahead with the next name and even though no one dares laugh at him, Matakara is self conscious anyway. He knew it would be hard to keep himself in check around you, especially considering how long he had spent hoping to see you again one day, but Matakara had no idea exactly how hard it would hit him. If anything, his feelings for you have only gotten more intense.
“I’ve decided…I’ll do everything I can to make her wish come true. We’ll make a whole new world, one where she can do anything she wants with nothing holding her back. I can’t believe this is actually happening; she’s here and we can be together again.”
Matakara smiles to himself as he idly flips through his workbook, not really seeing the words and having absolutely no idea what page he’s meant to be reading; he’s already counting down to when the clock strikes half past noon, despite the morning having barely started.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Arajin Tomoshibi’s sister? I see.”
Shindo leans back against the couch; the information he had a few of his underlings gather on you isn’t much, but it’s enough to satisfy his curiosity. The file, if it can be called that, is one sheet of basic information with a couple of photographs attached. One is of you from that morning, walking with Arajin on your way to Ishizu. The second photo is one of you taken of you watering some potted plants and a planter of herbs outside your family’s restaurant; you look a bit tired, frowning slightly as though disappointed with the progress of the herbs growing on the windowsill. You hold the small watering can, tipped downward, hand on one hip and lips pursed in a way that makes Shindo recall the face you had made when you left him standing in the aisle of the bookstore. A scarf is tied around your head and the apron draped over your body is stained. Not the most flattering angle or ensemble for a surprise photograph.
And yet, Shindo continues to stare down at the picture, held between his slender fingers; he turns it over and around, eyes scanning every detail. It’s as if he’s searching for something, but it’s not like there’s anything to gain from gazing upon your discontented pout.
“How dull a life she must lead: in and out of doctor’s offices and hospital rooms and when she’s well enough to be released, all she can do is pitter patter the hours away with books and plants. It explains her misconduct; names or not, she wouldn’t have the first clue of who I was, too ignorant to realize how easy it would have been to discipline her for being so mouthy.”
Shindo considers the photograph with a chuckle; his pinky traces your lips with a feather light touch. Such an unattractive expression; he’ll make sure to obtain a photograph with you looking more presentable.
“Poor little bunny, trapped in a burrow for so long. I know how to bring a little excitement into your life.”
