Does Dadan act like a mom to Lucky in the ASL2 au?

She does, but it takes a little while.

At first, she's annoyed that Luffy is seemingly taking after his grandfather and is now also bringing home random children for her to raise. She agrees to let Lucky stay because frankly she looked so sad and pathetic that Dadan couldn't bring herself to throw her out.

Lucky is terrified of being left homeless if Dadan gets sick of her, so she's constantly trying to help and do literally anything to endear herself. Between that and amulet effects, Dadan finds herself getting attached.

But then the behavioral issues start to manifest, and it's all concerning to say the least. Lucky being moody isn't anything new, Ace has that covered, it's the meltdowns that throw everyone off. Like if she ever accidentally breaks or spills something, she will start full on sobbing while frantically apologizing and trying to clean up the mess.

Now Dadan will normally yell at the boys for doing that, but only because she's knows that they don't care. It's water off a duck's back to them. But before she can even react to the sound of glass breaking, Lucky is already borderline hysteric. Dadan is immediately like 'that isn't normal'. Then she sees Lucky trying to clean up the glass with her bare hands and not stopping even when her hands get cut and start to bleed. She has to be physically picked up and restrained to get her to stop, and then it takes the better part of an hour to get her to fully settle.

Everyone is deeply bothered by that reaction. Even Ace was awkwardly patting her on the back in an attempt to calm her down. Between her meltdown and the way she flinched and cowered away from everyone when they rushed towards her to stop her from hurting herself more, everyone is now of the opinion that her parents won't be allowed to have her back even if they do decide to come and collect her. They are her family now, not whoever her shitty parents are.

How feral is lucky in the asl2 au? Omg also would you be willing to talk about her relationship with garp?? Like is there some blatant favoritism?

At first, she isn't that feral. She was raised in a modern society under strict parents, so she starts off as the most behaved child by a country mile. But, as time goes on, she starts to slip.

She doesn't understand what happened or how she got to Dawn Island, so she also doesn't understand why her parents are seemingly not even trying to look for her. She starts to act out a lot, simultaneously pushing people away out of fear of being abandoned again, only to break down if they actually do withdraw. Her hypersensitivity to rejection leads to her and Ace having an extremely rocky start to their relationship because his cold and dismissive demeanor completely puts her off from him. Luffy is largely to thank for her not completely self isolating and going off the deep end.

Lucky does not care for Garp at first. Being around him makes her miss her own grandfather more, and she's lowkey jealous of the asl trio for having their grandpa around even if he is a little rough around the edges.

Garp brings her along when he's spending "quality time" with the boys in hopes that if she's sees him disciplining them, it'll dissuade her from following in their footsteps and wanting to also be a pirate. Lucky doesn't care for this because despite being brought along, she still feels excluded due to the fact that Garp just kinda drops her onto a rock and then doesn't really pay her any mind while he's dealing with the boys. To her, it's just rubbing her newfound orphan status in her face even more.

It doesn't start to improve until Garp finally interacts with her one on one after the boys retreated away from him to regroup and plot how to counter him. He glances over at her and finally sees how painfully lonely she looks. He attempts to strike up a conversation with her, but she's completely stonewalling him because she's still feeling angsty about being ignored so much and assumes he'll go right back to doing so once his real grandchildren come back.

Seeing that talking isn't working, he takes a different approach. He holds up an open hand and tells Lucky to punch him. She flatly refuses at first, believing that this is some sort of trick, but he goads her on until she finally caves and punches his palm. It doesn't even budge, and Garp can't help but laugh at the attempt. Before Lucky can storm off, he gives her some pointers on how to throw a real punch and encourages her to try it again. She takes another swing, and this time his hand moves just a little bit, but it's enough to give Lucky the tiniest little spark of pride.

She didn't really punch him hard enough to make his hand move, he just moved it to keep her from getting discouraged and closing off even more. After that, he offers to teach her how to fight one on one, promising that it'll be just their thing. This marks a turning point in her attitude because she finally has an outlet for her anger, and Garp's presence helps to fill the family sized hole in her heart.

Ace definitely clings to Lucky after Sabo's 'death'

He does, and it's a good thing too because Lucky very much is trying to pull away from him (and even Luffy) due to how devastated she is over Sabo's death.

Like she's flailing and screeching to be left alone while Ace is yelling at her to hold still already and let him hug her. And then Luffy wraps himself around both of them, so they're all going to he there for a while. She may as well get used to it and accept her fate.

I feel like in the ASL2 au, Sabo is the first one besides Luffy to reach out to Lucky.

Lucky reminds him a lot of Ace once she starts to act out, and he finds himself feeling compelled to try and be there for her. Her outbursts don't even phase him because Ace was like a feral animal when they met, so her snapping at him to just leave her alone is absolutely child's play to him.

It doesn't take long for her angry yelling to quiet down to mildly annoyed grumbling, and then even out into a tentative friendship. Sabo is also to thank for bridging the gap between Lucky and Ace, acting as a sort of buffer/translator for the two's defensive behaviors.

Naturally, this makes Sabo's "death" all the more tragic and painful.

Honestly Ace and Sabo both don't seem all that fond of their surnames, so I feel like she'd probably get Luffy's.

At first she would want to keep her original surname because she's positive that her parents are going to show up any day now, but as the years go by without so much as a letter... she becomes more receptive to the idea. Also Garp just kinda makes the decision for her, and there's really no arguing with him.

As for the name of the au, I'm debating between Little Lucky au or AS2L au

haha... well... you see... I may have cracked and started writing new things before finishing the old. In my defense, I don't control the writing motivation, it controls me. And it wanted to work on some new ideas.

I also found an abandoned Animatronics AU I forgot about while going through my drafts. I might go back and finish that, but I'm admittedly not as invested in it as I was when I started it.

I have decided I am going to write out that au but only the childhood portion of it. Everything after Luffy sets sail would be mostly the same beyond Luffy and Lucky being much closer right off the bat.

The biggest change would be that all the romantic yanderes before the time skip would have to become platonic since Lucky would only be 17 at the time and that would just be weird (maybe Koby could become romantic though?).
