Why is there such a big push for trans women to reclaim masculinity or be masculine or for trans men to be feminine?

Probably because there's so much backlash to masc transfeminine people and fem transmasculine people, even within our own communities. Supporting trans people means supporting all of us after all, even if somebody doesn't "get it."

It's less about "if you're a trans woman, being masculine is better, and if you're a trans man, being feminine is better." It's more akin to "trans people deserve to be or even reclaim that which makes their lives happier." Being a feminine trans woman or a masculine trans man isn't a bad thing. The bad thing is when people say you absolutely can not be a trans person and GNC/perceived as GNC. Again: if you're a gender conforming trans person, you don't have to be gender nonconforming. Just don't be an asshole to trans people who are - yes, even if you do not personally understand the appeal.
