recs if spn hurt:
- torchwood (for that previous posts reasons)
things iā€™ve seen:
- Person of Interest (sci fi thatā€™s almost-realistic involving artificial intelligence that has its own personality, INCREDIBLY well written plot, case of the week that connects to overall themes and overall plot, taraj p henson as a main character, queer wlw romance between main characters for multiple seasons - and some of my favorite written characters ever period, in general some of my favorite written characters ever, incredibly satisfying ending, give it a while to build up as it starts out presenting like a procedural then gets deeper and deeper and by the time ur in season 5 u canā€™t Believe how much foreshadowing was actually in those cotwā€™s in season 1 eps, toward the end of s2 is when it starts becoming clear everything was doing more than first glance appeared, this show was clearly planned for its entire show long story and you can Tell, this show is Genuinely possibly the BEST written thing i have ever watched and if sci fi is even slightly a genre you enjoy then i really recommend giving it a solid shot).
- buffy the vampire slayer (same genre, canon lesbian main characters by season 4, sibling relationship with buffy as the big hunter, motw with overarching season plots, motw plots that connect to its themes, pretty solidly written, found family, ends with everyone having grown and changed their world to a degree)
- guardian (if ur ok with cdrama censored romances and bad cgi, motw with overarching 10ish ep plots along with one huge overall plot, found family, two menā€™s romance as the focal point, mutants as a metaphor to show societal issues a la x-men, pretty solidly written in that in retrospect everything foreshadows and connected to the themes, satisfied me a ton, i canā€™t express enough that IF you happen to share my tastes this is probably gonna easily something u like - campy, sad, compassionate, loving, motw, overarching plot, people who chose to love each other through 10k years, characterization on point, campy villains who have a point a la Xmen, mutants/sci fi/fantasy as an allegory to tell real world message stories, critique of censorship, critique of government authoritianism, critique of military abuse of power, critique of letting things stay messed up to avoid rocking the boat when u have power, critique of codependent relationships, i could go on but it just genuinely hits all the things i want in a story personally lol)
- in the flesh (a take on zombie apocalypse totally different then the usual, zombies as a metaphor to show societal issues a la x-men, queer main character, wonderful entire cast of characters, to be fair this one is tragic yet optimistic so best not to go into it unless tragedy is something ur okay with if its well written, very short show, extremely well written)
- angel (the least well written of this list, but the writing will still hurt u less than ---, in the sense that: characters go through noticable satisfying growth and failings, the ending while not my favorite makes a lot of sense FOR the characterā€™s journeys and their world, its supernatural genre and a lot of motw paralleling bigger season wide arcs, thereā€™s really only 1 character they didĀ ā€˜wrongā€™ by and thatā€™s late season cordelia because whedon was a horrible person, however if youā€™re into buffy then Most of cordeliaā€™s arc in this is a really nice evolution from where she starts on buffy - charisma carpenter does great, Wesley Wyndham-Price from Buffy grows Immensely on this show and is one of my favorite character arcs ever, Amy Acker as an Actress is phenomenal in this show, Angel as a character goes through a Lot of growth, and the overall message of the entire show is overall always committed to that if ā€œthe worldā€™s messed up, we can choose each day to try and make something a little better, and thereā€™s value in the trying.ā€ if you watched buffy and wanted more - here you go. if you want specifically supernatural genre cases, a found family team of hunters, this is probably one of the closer fits - although this oneā€™s writing will vary, overall i still think it did a pretty solid job at least committing to growing its characters and sticking to the message it wanted to get across)
