It's a strange phenomenon when any post about alcohol or drugs or parties or "should've been at the club" jokes is flooded with responses from people explaining that they, as an individual, do not do that thing because of sensory issues / trauma / they don't like the taste of alcohol / medical reasons / weed makes them cough / family history of addiction / etc
To be clear, I'm not hating, and a lot of those reasons actually apply to me - what's curious is that people feel compelled to be really, REALLY vocal about it on posts that are only vaguely relevant.
Like... it's a clear case of Absolutely Nobody Asked but people clearly feel the need to jump on it and kinda justify their choices as soon as those topics even cross their dash. And I don't mean relevant discussions or polls where it's warranted.
It's kinda in that grey area between a Jughead complex (ie. feeling like you need to keep reaffirming your identity in juxtaposition to what's Normal) but also feeling defensive about not being one of the Cool Kids without realising that... yeah, the world has moved on since high school and nobody is asking you to prove anything.
But it clearly awakens some kind of imagined peer pressure or insecurity to feel like they personally cannot relate to this post because [insert reason here] so they have to put it out there like 'I have a valid reason not to do this! It's valid everyone! It's valid right?' on a post that's like. A weed joke.
