GinTae in Kintama Arc - Manga vs Anime Differences 1

Hi. I'm back with another anime vs manga post. this arc is big and it has a lot of issues. i hope you get smth from here.

also if i sound mad..pls do be informed that I am frustrated by many aspects of the anime adaptation of this arc.

Anime show both Otae and Gintoki's POV which was interesting and a nice touch.

also hhhh in the anime he's doing S-M play with a man instead of a woman.

Okay this is where it starts to get wacky as fck.

In the manga panel, Otae is clearly drawn together with the yorozuya and on the opposite and equal side to Sadaharu and right above otose and co. too.

in the anime by order of appearance

shinpachi, kagura, otae and kyuubei

otose, catherine, tama, gengai, katsura

sadaharu, tsukuyo, sarutobi, hasegawa

First of all pray tell me why the holyfck did kyuubei appear with the Yorozuya first? Not only that but it looked like she was in a unit with Otae. This was where my suspicion of how the anime really loved to favor kyuuta/e started. It's just so illogical. Kyuubei's main interest in life is Otae, not the Yorozuya, even if Gintoki is a dear friend to her. There was absolutely no reason for her to appear with Shinpachi and Kagura first. It's too misleading and blatantly shippy. Kyuubei appeared first before Mdm. Otose, Tama, and Katsura just because whoever made this anime wanted to show her with Otae without regard for who are the most important to Gintoki. There's a reason why she was placed AT THE EDGE of the manga panel in the same manner as Tsukuyo and Sarutobi for fcks sake.

Next I am actually miffed that Sadaharu appeared last. Not only that but he appeared together with the Gintoki simp squad. Also putting Tsukuyo in blatant center is another proof that the anime may have favored Gintoki x Tsukuyo a little to much. They already positioned Sarutobi, Hasegawa and Katsura on the edges (as they should) so why was Tsukuyo treated differently? What is she doing there in the center anyway other than fanservice? Then again, congratulations to the Gi/nT/su and Ky/uuT/ae ppl, I can see where you are coming from now. (throws confetti)

Note that I'm basing all my assumptions on Sorachi's paneling. It's not a coincidence why Sorachi arranged his characters like that in his manga. As we see how this arc progresses, the ones in the center are the most important to Gintoki: Shinpachi, Kagura, Otae, Sadaharu, Tama. Note that by the start of the chapter we already get a clue as to how the arc was going to end and who will be the main solutions to Gintoki's problem for the arc. Moreover Otose, Gengai, Catherine also symbolize home to him. The ones on the edges: Kyuubei, Katsura, Hasegawa, Tsukuyo, Sarutobi where the comrades who figure out his identity last. Come on!

But then the anime said "fck it we do what we want, let's make kyuubei and tsukuyo look more important than they should be, xoxo."

As for this at least the manga and anime panel kinda look the same. I'm bothered by how small and insignificant Otae is though. shrugs

Overall thoughts

I'm just getting started and it doesn't look promising.

I just want to make it clear that this is not hate to kyu/uta/e or g/ints/u. However I also admit that this is a criticism of the directorial decisions of the anime. Most of this is subtle but they still take away the underlying message that Sorachi was already laying out from the start of this arc.

Sakata gintoki headcanon

• You first met him when you want to buy a strawberry cake

• It's the last cake and you saw it first

• When you want to pay the strawberry cake, Gintoki just went in the shop and want to buy that cake

• But when he saw that the cake has already been packaged by the shop assistant, he yells dramaticly

• Kagura has to drag him outside that cake shop

• You feel confused at first

• Like why a grown up man yells that dramaticly just because of a strawberry cake?

• And then you feel guilty about buying the last srawberry cake

• You sighed and then buy another cake, a chocolate cake because it's not like you really desperately wanted to eat the strawberry cake like that man

• You went outside and saw that man still being draged by a girl that you assume is still in junior highschool and a boy that is a little bit older than that girl

• You approach them and smile

• "Um.. , excuse me? Do you want this cake?"

• You hand them the strawberry cake and the man has already tearing up

• "It look's like you really wanted this cake, and i can buy this cake another time" you giggle

• "Are you an angel miss?" Gin asked and he cries dramaticly

• "Gin-chan you should thank her properly" kagura said.

• "Kagura is right Gin-san, you should thank her because she is kind enough to give her cake to you" Shinpachi sighed while adjusting his glasses

• "Yes yes i know, why do you guys keep nagging like an old man. Geez. Ah, thank you very much about this cake. I really wanted to eat a sweet cake right now so i'm really gratefull you're giving me this cake" Gintoki said while smiling akwardly

• "It's okay" you smiled and look at the time. "I have to get going now, hope you guys have a good day" you bow your head and wave at them

• They wave back and say's goodbye

• And after that meeting, you met them several time on the street and then you know that they are Yorozuya

• Talking with them always make you laugh because thay seems like they always having fun

• And then you become friend's with them

• You ussualy went to go walk with kagura when she is walking sadaharu

• You like dogs and you don't have anything urgent to do so you ussualy play with sadaharu

• When Kagura is pissed at Gintoki, she will always go to you and nag about him

• You always listened to Kagura and give her advice sometimes

• Kagura see you as an older sister

• You and shinpachi went shoping together because he knows so much discount and you can save money

• Shinpachi ussualy always talks about Gin and Kagura, and how they do they work and when they do stupid things

• And you hangout with Gin at his place

• They treated you like family and they are always warm to you

• They bicker a lot and you always giggle when you see that

2. How did you get into this franchise/fandom?

ooc: I used to be very invested in the anime Bleach, adoring the 4th Bleach film: "Hell Verse." Lets just say... that film had a large impact on me. I was browsing fan fiction for it and I came across a cross over fanfic between Hell Verse and Inuyasha. My favorite character from Hell Verse, Kokuto, ended up being the man who fell in love with Midoriko and overall it was done extremely well. Since I was a huge Kokuto simp at the time, I was fascinated by Midoriko's role and wanted to learn more about her. This lead me to look up Inuyasha and my journey with the anime began a few months later.

8. What’s the worst thing about the canon you are writing?

ooc: Not really sure if this is addressing my writing or the fandom in general. If it's for the fandom, I can't say I hate much about it. Since the fandom I was in previously was horrible compared to this one. But if I had to choose... it would be the hatred between the people who ship Sesshomaru x Rin and Sesshomaru x Kagura. It's heart breaking to see fans of the series at each others throats and how many people are dropping the series just because of a fictional pairing. I'm not going to say much since this topic really annoys me... but I'm scared to approach people with the opposite opinion sometimes. I one time I stood up for my opinion, I was belittled... lets just say that. So yeah, I try to stay away from that side of the Inuyasha fandom.

11. Are there some things you dislike about how the show/series/etc. portray the character you have picked up? If so, what?

ooc: Kinda. Although I love Naraku, some scenes make me want to figuratively slap him. Like the scene in which he kills Kohaku just as the other gained the will to live. Or the scene in which he taunted Miroku that he would have died if the monk kept his black hole open a second longer. Which we learn is a complete lie since Miroku would have died if the miasma reached his heart a second later. I also never liked Kagura, but her death is brutal and just plain cruel. Oh, and don't even get me started on how Naraku ordered Goshinki to devour that one village just to lure Inuyasha out.
