so everyone in my original shatterspace has a wisp partner, right? BUT there are a few notable exceptions. callisto, of course, because he IS a wisp. and syzygy, because his wisp met an "unfortunate end"... but what does that mean, exactly?

WELL... to explain THAT, i'm first gonna have to explain what the fuck is up with north (aka starline). obviously, eggman doesn't exist in this universe. but gerald DOES. so, north is obsessed with gerald's old research into wisps. eventually, he finds out about project callisto... but the documents he discovers claim it was "a failure."

so, what does mr egotistical do? he assumes he can do it better, of course!

north starts kidnapping children and wisps for his experiment. attempting to fuse them together to create an ultimate being. he goes through many subjects, including his own wisp, which he saw as forfeit in the pursuit of scientific progress.

(therefore, north is another character who doesn't have a wisp. because he killed it. on purpose. yeah.)

eventually, he's able to create a stable subject--this universe's version of kit. but where did he get the wisp from? well... let's just say when syzygy digs a half-frozen, almost dead kit out of the snow in deepfreeze, he feels a strange sense of familiarity with him, despite never having met him before...
