sometimes i see people proposing educational approaches that may well be appropriate for most students but would have been/were absolute hell for me personally and i'm just like. genuinely unsure whether that constitutes a meaningful flaw in the approach or whether it's just like, welp, it would work for most kids, sucks to be you
#specifically i'm thinking of ms-d*meanor's mother's 'literally all subjects you're getting educated in are football-flavored now' project#and also someone i follow being like 'maybe kids should have mandatory drama class so they get practice at memorizing things'#which like. def agree some memorization is good! i'm glad i know my times tables by heart and wish i knew more greek principle parts!#but also we DID in fact have mandatory middle school theatre class and it was like. absolute dread and misery for me#as a kid with major (undiagnosed) social/performance anxiety where Everyone Looking at You Expectantly was like. my worst nightmare#and like. probably this was all fine in general and i just should've gotten some combination of therapy/accommodations#given that afaik this setup was not a horrifying psychological gauntlet of anguish for other kids really#but like. idk. sux to always be a special (fucked-up) case uniquely unsuited to Perfectly Reasonable Pedagogical Approaches‚ lol#starts to damage yr sense of basic competence after a while which. it turns out you sort of need one of those to do. anything in life
