I wrote an entire fanfic about Rem committing fraud. In the manga, she states outright that she forged data for them. I think that she had in mind to pass them off as either her nephews or cousins that came aboard with her that she'd never told her rotation crew about and that she took them out of cold sleep because she got lonely or she rescued random kids (not hers) from a cold sleep failure. That was my fanfic. She forged records faking an emergency (using some past emergencies as backup) to make up entire backstories for these kids who had to be rescued from a failure in their cold sleep pods so they wouldn't die, and she chose to adopt them. She set the records to read that they were a pair of twin ten-year-old humans. Hackety-hackety-hack and suddenly they have Earth-records! (Perhaps like "Revenant Buskus" in the '98 anime, they were born in Cleveland). Anyway... as for any continued growth... To be fair, she did not know if they'd have a continued growth rate beyond the "looks like 8-10 year olds at a year." If we're going by manga-backstory, it seems like that's when Tesla stopped rapid-growing. My answer: Rem: Um... growth spurt? You know growing boys. Crew: -_- Rem: *Negotiating* Okay, so they aren't a danger, I swear! And they're mine now, so you can't have them! And... and... *Has during this time prepared an escape shuttle with supplies and some programming to get to one of the Plant ships. Has trained Nai to fly, Vash didn't take to it well because he's not great at driving as a manga running gag, is ready to just RUN if need be.* Rem: *Hopes she'll be listened to and the shame of what the crew did before will halt them.* Rem: *if it does not* *Turns to the kids.* It is time for us to run.
