#as a Percy Jackson kid and a theatre kid who is rather familiar with Greek plays it’s also very cool!

:] I would love to hear your impressions of Hadestown after having watched it if you'd care to share! :0 I haven't seen it myself but I've been listening to a lot of the songs lately (shoutout to "Hey, Little Songbird" <3) and it's piqued my interest!
(Got home from the theatre and immediately started writing this sorry if it’s a bit long!)
Hadestown is a great show! I super recommend listening to it or going to see it if you’re lucky enough to have the chance
I will admit the final version of the soundtrack isn’t actually my favourite version, the live recording is usually my go-to when I listen to it, I just feel like the final version cut or altered a ton of the lines that sit in my brain like rocks and don’t quite land the same as older drafts do. My favourite songs are Epic III and Road to Hell II
I actually think about this show a lot, so thank you for giving me an excuse to talk about it! I just love the way it handles the idea of being doomed by the narrative. I like that it isn’t about defeating destiny and winning a happy ending, but more about a journey to an inevitable conclusion still being worthwhile
I love tragedies, and more than that I love tragedies that let you know they’re tragedies. I love the black flag hanging outside the theatre as a warning. I love knowing the ending and still choosing the journey. I love that Orpheus turns around every time, but we still hold our breath and hope that just once he won’t
In the last song in the show, Hermes has a line:
“It's a sad song/But we sing it anyway/Cause, here's the thing:/To know how it ends/And still begin to sing it again/As if it might turn out this time/I learned that from a friend of mine”
And there’s something in this line that I am absolutely in love with it’s my favourite verse in the whole show. I carry it around in my pocket and run my fingers over it when my mind drifts
