Viral dragon AU part 2: the Megadot-ening! Featuring Mochi’s Dot bean. This also blends into a war mount AU that @morsprocella came up with. Somehow Dot ended up being Megabyte’s rider :^)

There’s only one Geoffrey sketch for me to post on this special day, a sketch of the role I love above all his others, the performance that drove me into a different leg of the trousers of time: it’s Francis Walsingham from Elizabeth (1998), of course! (One of my fellow Rushies referred to me as “walsie girl” once and it stuck - or I adopted it!)
I still have so much love for this character, for this performance, and I think the thing I love the most is that Geoffrey Rush “got it”, too - he understood and appreciated when someone valued his work and bounced off it. And I can never thank him enough for it. Happy 70th birthday Geoffrey Rush and thank you for giving me Walsingham who has lived rent-free in my head since 2005 and is still proving to be an artistic muse and gives me so much joy. And thank you for being so wonderful to me and so many of your other fans: for signing things off as “Walsie”, for calling me “Spymaster” or “HRH”, for making time for any and all of us when we chased you across country or the world, and for, all-in-all, making me and many others insanely grateful and happy. It is not forgotten.
I managed 13 other sketches overall in the countdown to Geoffrey’s birthday. I may continue to draw more over the course of the next 12 months, too as there are still sooo many amazing roles to sketch! My other sketches, good and bad, are as follows:
Hans Hubermann (The Book Thief, 2011)
Basil (Eye of the Storm, 2011)
Michael Kingley (Storm Boy, 2018)
Nigel (Finding Nemo, 2003)
Casper (Candy, 2006)
Ezylryb (Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, 2010)
Virgil Oldman (The Best Offer, 2013)
Inspector Javert (Les Miserables, 1998)
Stephen Price (House on Haunted Hill, 1999)
Leon Trotsky (Frida, 2002)
The Marquis de Sade (Quills, 2000)
Harry Pendel (Tailor of Panama, 2001)
David Helfgott (Shine, 1996)

Just digging on my old hard drive, driving down memory lane...
One of the first fics I can ever remember writing as a kid was one about Hades and Persephone in the Disney Hercules-verse. I re-wrote is when I was about 17, then tried again between 2006-2010-ish, but meh, ofc I never completed it.
It was fun though! It had Hecate and her flying wolves (from the TV series - did anyone watch the TV spin-off? Sooo funny! Shame the animation was so shit... and it retconned the movie but nvm) and they had twin children and there was angst and yeah I loved it. Here are some old sketches anyway! I used to love Hades so much.

Yes I wimped out drawing the accordion because I don’t have that much patience or time right now. I think this sketch is better up close, I’m still not quite nailing it but it’s all good practice.
This is sketch #13 in my GR Sketch-a-thon challenge, as requested by Anon: Hans from the wonderful “The Book Thief”. A darling of a character played with warmth and subtlety by Geoffrey.
And here’s the list of my previous sketches in the “Countdown to Geoffrey Rush’s Big 7-0″ so far are:
Basil (Eye of the Storm, 2011)
Michael Kingley (Storm Boy, 2018)
Nigel (Finding Nemo, 2003)
Casper (Candy, 2006)
Ezylryb (Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, 2010)
Virgil Oldman (The Best Offer, 2013)
Inspector Javert (Les Miserables, 1998)
Stephen Price (House on Haunted Hill, 1999)
Leon Trotsky (Frida, 2002)
The Marquis de Sade (Quills, 2000)
Harry Pendel (Tailor of Panama, 2001)
David Helfgott (Shine, 1996)
I’ll be picking the next one myself, still tons to choose from!

More old art! I love looking back through my archives. I think I had a brief dalliance with TMNT again in 2008. The Shredder was my everything. I think I wrote a story as a kid where he was transformed into a mutant dog, which was fun to draw if nothing else! Lol. He was such an idiot in the old cartoon though, but in the 1990 movie... *chef’s kiss*

(I’m sorry, I have never drawn Philip. He seems to have bounced between Henry Cavill and Chris Eccleston...)

His quietness was also disconcerting. In his audience, he spoke ‘in such a low voice that although we were very close we could not hear him’. Unlike other rulers of the day, such as the pope, Elizabeth of England or Henry IV of France, who gave vent in their audiences to a whole range of emotions, Philip remained always quiet and courteous. Confronted by this silence, even Teresa of Avila was unnerved. ´I began to speak to him when his penetrating gaze, of those that penetrate to the soul, settled on me, so I lowered my eyes and rapidly stated what I wanted’. The king’s reserve was natural, not affected. He was aware that it made others uneasy, and usually avoided looking at petitioners, in order no to confuse them. On several occasions the poet Alonso de Ercilla tried to express himself to Philip but was disconcerted by the royal gaze. The king told him finally, ‘Don Alonso, speak to me on paper’ — Henry Kamen, Philip of Spain

I’m at sketch #8 in my GR Sketch-a-thon challenge, where I’m counting down to Geoffrey Rush’s 70th birthday in July by trying to doodle as many of his roles as possible: this is Ezylryb from “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” movie, requested by @robins-treasure - thank you for the request! This was a real beautiful animated film, it’s a shame it didn’t get more love. I bet Geoffrey had a blast voicing this character.
My previous sketches in the “Countdown to the Big 7-0″ so far are:
Virgil Oldman (The Best Offer, 2013)
Inspector Javert (Les Miserables, 1998)
Stephen Price (House on Haunted Hill, 1999)
Leon Trotsky (Frida, 2002)
The Marquis de Sade (Quills, 2000)
Harry Pendel (Tailor of Panama, 2001)
David Helfgott (Shine, 1996)
I am still open to requests for future sketches if you have a fave Rush character - this can be from film, an animation, or even theatre providing there are reference pics for me to work from. Drop me a message. I don’t mind Anonymous requests if you prefer!

Exasperated sigh...

Galliard! Such fun to sketch him, it was really relaxing doing his big lion mane.
Tumblr media
I drew him in ink so not able to correct mistakes. Always a challenge. He's not quite right but meh, who cares. I may have another go at sketching him on my Cintiq this weekend in bright colours!

I’m into double figures in the sketchathon! Whoop! Here’s number 10: Nigel from “Finding Nemo”, as requested by Anon. This was a fun doodle, lots of bright colours!
My previous sketches in the “Countdown to Geoffrey Rush’s Big 7-0″ so far are:
Casper (Candy, 2006)
Ezylryb (Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, 2010)
Virgil Oldman (The Best Offer, 2013)
Inspector Javert (Les Miserables, 1998)
Stephen Price (House on Haunted Hill, 1999)
Leon Trotsky (Frida, 2002)
The Marquis de Sade (Quills, 2000)
Harry Pendel (Tailor of Panama, 2001)
David Helfgott (Shine, 1996)
I’m considering drawing a “Storm Boy” sketch next to keep with the pelican theme, but I may change my mind; still so many roles to pick from. I am open to requests if you have a fave Geoffrey Rush role you’d like to see me attempt to sketch - can be from film, television, animation or even theatre so long’s as there are refs for me to work from!

Prepare yourselves for the hunt…
I’m sure Megabyte knows who it was who sent him into the Web to perish. She’s top of the list. And he can bring it on, Sugah…
Post-series 4 “hunt” concept fan art. I got carried away with it but it turned out ok considering I’m allergic to backgrounds. My head literally came up with a whole storyboard sequence for Megabyte playing with his “prey” through the Principal Office corridors, but I have no time to draw a storyboard right now so a sketch will have to do. (But I would like to storyboard it.)
