#repost @artscabinet ・・・ #ArtsCabinetinReview 2016-19: Artists’ interviews A critical lens into artistic inquiry, research processes and challenges: interviews with artists that shed light their ideas and help us imagine the world in different ways. LIVING IN EXILE: FAR FROM HOME BY PAPHONSAK LA-OR Lecturer Thanavi Chotpradit considers landscape painting in Thailand. She calls on a series of landscape paintings by Chiang Mai-based painter Paphonsak La-or which consider themes of political asylum and exile. Exhibited in a show called Far From Home, the title was derived from Klai Ban, a compilation of travel writings of King Chulalongkorn- the first Siamese King to travel to “civilised” Europe. During his time, the King sent many letters and postcards- particularly of landscapes, home to his loved ones. Thanavi Chotpradit writes, the ‘Far From Home of the 21st Century changed the device of story-telling from the letter and postcard to a postcard-like painting.’ Now, La-or depicted the state of being away from home of the Thais in exile through 29 acrylic paintings of mountain peaks in 13 different countries where they have lived. Additionally, a painting of an unknown landscape titled, Somewhere’ was included, drawing on the fact that many asylum seekers are still wandering in neighbouring countries, waiting to find asylum. Chotpradit ends saying: ‘Far From Home was a result of an investigative research on lives and stories of the Thais in exile. Their stories reminded him of King Chulalongkorn’s Klai Ban, only these exiles could not return.’ Read the full essay here: https://www.artscabinet.org/editorial/living-in-exile-far-from-home-by-paphonsak-la-or Images: 1&2: Paphonsak La-or, Far From Home, 2017, 3: Paphonsak La-or, Far From Home, exhibition view at ARTIST + RUN in Bangkok, Thailand, 2017 @Thanavi Chotpradit #ThanaviChotpradit #PaphonsakLaor #FarFromHome #KingChulalongkorn #thailand #politicalasylum #exile #landscapepainting #artscabinet #artandresearch #artisticresearch #artisticprocess #artpedagogy #researchaspractice #artasresearch #migration https://www.instagram.com/p/B2efYFlDKzG/?igshid=15g5fby2lpx7k

Instructions
Mixed media on collaged paper patchwork. Today playing with a set of painting workshop instructions by Maggie Stewart via @artpedagogy on Instagram. Not that far from my regular procedures of mixed methods and idioms. Enjoyed painting round the thrown paint.
Instructions
A process of adding stencilling, masking, dripping, marking and so on.
