A departure from my usual way of working, this new 16 x 20″ painting showcases the versatility of acrylics.

Watercolors are known for their thin, translucent washes of color. Oils, for their thick impasto effects. 

Acrylics make both extremes possible, as this painting shows. 

Originally, I only planned to use acrylics till I learned the basics of painting. Oils and watercolors both seemed superior. 

Now it’s 14 years later, I’ve learned a thing or two about painting, and I can’t imagine why I’d ever abandon acrylics. 

On top of their “best of both worlds” versatility, I love their rapid drying time. It’s perfect for the quick & sloppy way I approach a canvas.
