i don’t think there are any new releases i’m interested in left so here’s my own 2022 ‘’’wrapped’’’ (that’s been ready since spotify’s) because the amount of times i listen to something isn’t necessarily related to how much they made a mark on me / whether i would recommend them so here we go:

💿 “raving dahlia” (EP), sevdaliza — solidified her as one of my fav artists and the visual material related to it is quite compelling

💿 “redcar les adorables étoiles” (prologue), catq a.k.a. redcar

🎵 “looking for somebody (to love)” + “i’m in love with you” + “oh caroline” + “part of the band”, the 1975 — BFIAFL is a good, cohesive album but i miss the charm (and the length) of its more eclective predecessors

Mulan by Lexie Liu (刘柏辛). 2019. 

At twenty years old, Lexie Liu is an R&B and hip-hop artist from Hunan, China. Early in her career, she placed 4th in Korean reality singing competition K-pop Star 5, and also appeared on Zhejiang Television’s Sound of My Dream. She turned down a contract with YG Entertainment, and is now signed to popular label and multimedia collective 88rising.

Liu first performed Mulan live on The Rap of China Season 2 in the summer of 2018, helping her gain a spot among the final four contestants. This track incorporates many original elements, including lyrics from the original Ballad of Mulan, traditional Chinese instrument sounds, and rhyme using Chinese together with English.
