Arthur “I don’t want this dragon” Pendragon: I would literally die for you
#arthurs dramatic ass 100% had a 10 minute soliloquy about refusing to have a dragon in the castle#merlin suggests they compromise#the compromise is that their new dragon stays in the castle and merlin doesn’t hex him#arthur quickly accepts#over the next few weeks merlin mainly cares for aithusa so arthur doesn’t really think about the situation deeply#but then one day merlin is off gathering herbs#so when aithusa finishes arts and crafts time with gwen it’s arthur who she rushes to show her colorful footprint painting to#and arthur is suddenly hit with this realization that what he’s been thinking of as just some magical creature is actually a child#HIS child#and eagerly looking for his praise and support like he used to with uther#arthur is number one dad material from that moment on#he spends every second he can with his precious scale baby#he makes sure she gets to try every activity he never got to try with his own father#if she enjoys the activity then it’s added to their regular schedule#merlin constantly joins them and is 24/7 internally sobbing over how dumb and precious his family is#the first time aithusa calls out in the night for arthur instead of merlin he wakes to arthur cradling their child and happy sobbing#its aithusa’s first birthday already and for their personal celebration they have a tea party at the round table with all their friends#aithusa is of course wearing her favorite princess dress that arthur gave her#merlin is just about to light the cake candle with magic when aithusa lets out her first breath of fire and lights it herself#she immediately looks at arthur excitedly#clearly hoping he’ll be as proud and excited as her at this new skill#‘I would literally die for you’ arthur answers#it’s all the confirmation she needs#aithusa#arthur pendragon#merlin#merthur#bbc merlin#these dumb gays are my life
