Mela Muter (PL/FR, 1876 –1967)
Woman with a Cat [Kobieta z kotem] 1918–1920
Mela Muter is the pseudonym used by Maria Melania Mutermilch (April 26, 1876 – May 14, 1967), the first professional Jewish painter in Poland. She lived most of her life in France.
Muter's painting career began to flourish after she moved to Paris from Poland in 1901 at the age of twenty-five.
Before World War I, Muter's painting practice aligned itself with the Naturalism movement; her signature works containing vivid hues and strong brush strokes. Muter gained swift popularity in Paris and within five years of her residency in the city, had already begun showing her works. Muter received French citizenship in 1927. After the breakout of WWII Muter fled to Avignon for safety during the Nazi occupation. After the war, Muter returned to Paris where she worked and resided until her death in 1967. via Wikipedia

Have you heard the story of a woman portrayed in this masterpiece? Joanna Hiffernan and James Abbott McNeill Whistler met in London in 1861. He instantly fell in love with her striking red hair and outspoken character and the couple soon moved to Paris where Hiffernan became Whistler’s muse, partner, and modèle privilégié. For six years, Whistler couldn’t stop painting his muse. Her image became his obsession. Hiffernan managed Whistler’s accounts, organized their domestic life, and acted as an endless source of inspiration, while also being an artist in her own right. #Repost @dailyartmagazine Read ➡️ "Joanna Hiffernan: Artist, Model and Whistler’s Muse" [🔗link in bio] 🖊 Louisa Mahoney @weeezybabyy 🖼 James McNeill Whistler, Symphony in White, No. 2: The Little White Girl, 1864, @tate #jamesmcneillwhistler #jameswhistler #joannahiffernan #impressionism #artherstory #19thcenturypainting #artoftheday https://www.instagram.com/p/CjzQSYxomdT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In LoVe #PalianSHOW #artwork by Helen Dahm (1878 – 1968) palianshow.wordpress.com/2024/05/21/helen-dahm/
Art By Women - Women In Arts @abwwia
Helen Dahm (May 21, 1878 – May 24, 1968) was a Swiss artist and a follower of the expressionist movement.
Her early work included hand-colored, hand-pressed fabric prints, mostly expressionistic in style.
In the early 1930s, Helen suffered from severe depression and did very little art.
In 1938, by invitation of Meher Baba, Dahm came to live in his ashram in Meherabad, India and painted the interior murals. Her paintings are still viewable there today, as restored in 1989. For health reasons Dahm eventually returned to her homeland of Switzerland.
Helen Dahm only received recognition late in life. In 1967, at the age of 89, she had her first major retrospective exhibition in Switzerland.
Else Strantz was her life partner for twenty years. via Wikipedia

Artemisia Gentileschi was highly successful during her lifetime. She lived and worked in Rome, Florence, Venice, London, and Naples while producing work for prominent patrons such as the House of Medici and Charles I of England. She was the first woman to be accepted into Florence’s Accademia delle Arti del Disegno (Academy of the Arts of Drawing) which enabled her to buy paint and supplies, sign contracts and travel by herself: things she'd previously only been able to do with a man’s permission. . . . #artemisiagentileschi #gentileschi #artemisia #herchive #womenempowerment #womenwhopaint #herstory #arthistory #artherstory #baroqueart #baroque #oldmasters #womenartists #nationalgallery #powerofwomen (at The Florence Academy of Art) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDygOURJ7FF/?igshid=e1nq9zv9sann
