So I made Pokeberry ink!
And it came out really cool!
Tumblr media
Like dang look at that color!
HOWEVER
I’ve started noticing something I find rather interesting
Specifically; some of the color seems to be fading over time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even bits I colored at the same time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, this isn’t odd with Pokeberry, as the color is fairly well known to fade if not set properly. What I find odd is there seems to be a pattern to things that fade more quickly
Tumblr media
So I have three variables I’m testing: application, incorporation, and light exposure
Application
I’ve noticed a distinct difference between the fade of pieces I’ve drawn with a nib pen, or used a pin to stipple.
Tumblr media
And those for which I use a broad brush. The density of the ink also seems to be a factor.
Tumblr media
Though the latter is not always true, as seen by the fade on other brush pages
Tumblr media
Which brings me to variable 2
Incorporation
When making this ink, I elected to use vinegar as a binding agent, but I kind of. Guessed. On the ratio. As such, I have a feeling the ink has been separating. I hypothesize that the fade of the ink, or lack thereof, is dependent on how well the vinegar incorporates with the Pokeberry pigment. This theory is, personally, particularly exciting, as it could mean that fully controlling the fade is possible, which gives me a whole slew of ideas for color-changing artwork.
Light Exposure
Fairly self explanatory; my final inquiry is how quickly the exposure of the ink to light will accelerate the fade. Pages left open to the window will likely fade more quickly than those kept closed in a journal or drawer after application. If true, must find a way to better seal the color after application.
Will update with further data

I got the chance to road trip out to the path of totality! My phone camera didn’t do it justice, so I painted what I saw instead 🌞🌚

A very experimental art for me, i want to try out some new style. ihnmaims radio drama got me in a chokehold and possessed me to draw this.
Also I'm giving Ted zero gyatt cus that man did not deserve it.
Note :
- the binary translates as "HATEHATE" on repeat.
- the pair of punchcode tapes representing AM's talkfield, are from the original short story. The left one is "I THINK, THEREFORE I AM" and the right is "COGITO ERGO SUM".

I don't have the words for this but. Art and science are always hand in hand.
The perfectionism of artists has them researching stuff in a way that only scientists can compare. Some artists become experts in biology or anatomy. Other special interests have them going down rabbit holes to make them better at their art.
Disney animators said "we are perfecting the code for this snow if it kills us" and researched and invented code until it acted like real snow in Frozen and snow scientists were like hey. Did we just fucking solve the Dyatlov Pass mystery. And the animators answered no. We made snow. YOU applied the knowledge and did the experiments to solve what could have happened at Dyatlov Pass.
And it was a team effort because of course it was. You can't have art without science. And you can't have science without art.
