okay, let's start with levi (my beloved):

hogwarts house: gryffindor (maybe....?) | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

ugh, the hp sorting house system is way too reductive. he has qualities of gryffindor, slytherin, and hufflepuff - brave, astute, loyal to a fault, etc. so it's a hard choice. but if i really have to choose, i'd go for gryffindor. i know that his Bad Boy facade shouts slytherin, but while he has larger goals (killing all the titans, then saving the world etc.), he's got no actual ambition for himself. hufflepuff would also be a good option.

daemon (from the his dark materials series): (because i've just decided that's just way more accurate than the hp method) some kind of big feline. maybe a panther - a black panther would be the ideal - aloof, predatory, dangerous, fiercely independent.

best quality: besides his obvious strenghts as a leader and warrior, the way he cares for his comrades-in-arms. it's very hard to gain his trust and respect, but once you have it, it's forever. he's pragmatic and ruthless, yes, but he also has a huge capacity for compassion and friendship. not that he would be effusive about his affections, of course.

worst quality: none, he's absolutely perfect ❤ jklsdfhjk jokes aside, he really struggles to open up (a serious understatement), idt he ever talked about his traumatic past with anyone. i mean, maybe he mentioned it to hange and erwin (erwin knew him when he was still an undergound thug, so...), but... he's not great with feelings. despite his apathetic, intimidating mask, he feels and cares deeply, but he has a long history with losing the people he loves, so he tries to not personally care about his squadmates, which can be both a strenght and a weakness. of course, he spectacularly fails at this.

ship them with: well, it's not a secret that i'm a huge rivamika fan, this ship is almost literally consuming my waking thoughts lmao. imo they're perfectly compatible: very similar personalities (stoic, the strongest warriors, absolutely terrifying on the battlefield but with a soft underbelly), very similar pasts/experiences, so many parallels that it's actually ridiculous, etc. i love how they're both each other's equals and likeness (yes, i took it from jane eyre. no, i don't regret anything lmao). a lot of tropes i love, too: Terrible First Impression (the Pride and Prejudice vibes are so strong with these two, you have no idea), Kindred Spirits/Mirror Images, Veteran/Young Prodigy, The Last of Their Kind, even Height Difference lmao. i could write a whole rivamika manifesto, but this is already too long. (maybe for some other time 👀) i would've loved for their dynamic to be more explored in canon but alas, isayama clearly didn't give a shit about the ackerman legacy, he just used it as a plot shortcut to give them conveniently unique powers, since they never really talked about it 🙄 (and before some troll comes into my askbox shouting "you iNcEsT fReAk!!!!1!!", they're only very distantly related. we know shit about the ackermans but we know for sure that they've got at least several generations between them. biologically their shared DNA is 0%, obviously they don't see each other as family, all the eldians have a dead ass common ancestor from 2000 years ago so they're all basically ⁓related anyway. if you really wanna scream about i.ncest, go watch got/dark/the borgias and shut the fuck up please. or alternatively go outside and touch some grass) sorry for the rant, uh. anyway, i can also see levi/erwin. idk if i'd ever care enough to read a fic about them (i'm usually a huge multishipper, but for some weird reason not when it comes to rivamika? same with braime and kastle tbh), but still, i can see it.

brotp them with: hange and erwin, obv. veteran trio >>> ema trio, sorry not sorry (at least h. and e. died before yams had the chance to ruin their character arcs)

needs to stay away from: ...uh, filth, i guess? lmao

misc. thoughts: besides the stupid teenage fangirl crush i have on him, i'm genuinely fascinated by the man himself. he's a huge mess of a contradictions, and yet somehow it works: he's violent and brash and kind of an asshole, but also has a strong moral code and integrity; he's obv very skilled at all the killing/torturing stuff and yet he has a huge respect for life; he's got a potty mouth to say the least, and yet some very aristocratic manners/tastes (the way he sits, his preference for tea and usually refined clothes); he comes from what's supposed to be an illustrous bloodline, he's methodical and very precise, and yet he was born and raised in the underground, he's been used to filth and blood and poverty since he was a child, kenny of all people was his father figure, and probably has known no other life than a perennial survival mode existence. he's "humanity's strongest soldier", but while well-built he's also small, the david to the titans' goliah, and probably not what people would assume a born warrior looks like. he's also one of the few characters who stayed true to himself and his original characterization until the end, bless you smol king ❤

mikasa:

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

this is actually easy: mikasa belongs to hufflepuff and no, i won't take criticism (just joking lol). enough with this "hufflepuffs are fluffy puppies/Cinnamon Rolls <3" thing: mikasa values loyalty and duty more than anything else. she's also hardworking... and fierce, strong, lethal. yes, hufflepuff and lethal are not mutually exclusive concepts.

daemon: (finally the better option) a she-wolf, fiercely protective of her pack.

best quality: loyal, brave, incredibly strong (alongside her more fragile qualities). practical and level-headed on the battlefield, at least when eren is not included in the picture.

worst quality: struggles to let go of the past (understandable, considering her trauma). tunnel-vision when it comes to eren, obv. extreme levels of delusions ("if only i spoke openly about my romantic feelings for him - as if i didn't made them abundantly clear in ⁓6 years - he wouldn't kill 80% of humanity :(((" lmao okay. just. okay), but that's more on the writing. she's sadly more static than any other main character throughtout the whole series.

ship them with: see above :) but recently i've also started to be intrigued by mikasa/annie and mikasa/sasha. also, i'm sympathetic to jeankasa fans, though i don't actually care for the ship.

brotp them with: EMA trio, especially armin+mikasa. their friendship is so beautiful and special. also sasha.

needs to stay away from: ...... eren, at least romantically. again, that's more on the writing than anything else, but e.remika unfortunately encompasses many tropes i loathe with all the strength of my old shriveled heart: childhood friends-to lovers where the (male) childhood friend doesn't acknolewdge/is completely indifferent to the other (female) friend's romantic feelings, she hopelessly pines for him for years without anything more than a cold shoulder... until in the last chapter it's revealed that he loved her all along and doesn't "want other men to have her!!! :((" (then why did you have no reaction whatsoever to jean's years-long crush on her while she was jealous of any vaguely female-shaped human being you were friendly to, including hange? are you that dumb, man?); the female character's development and entire arc 100% revolves around the male protagonist - she has no goals, no dreams of her own except staying with him forever and ever; the romance is based on an idealized childhood dream, therefore reaffirming those childish illusions would make the character regress, not actually grow up (and nope, epilogue!jk doesn’t count; that also lacks build-up - i would’ve said the same about rm as well, so it’s not about shipping, guys, it really isn’t - and mikasa needed an inner change; getting married to another man but still praying to eren’s shrine is not substitute to actual development lol). post-time skip she's never really frustrated/angry with him, they never get a confrontation about him becoming a, y'know, mass-murderer of gigantic (pun intended) proportions; she puts him on a pedestal, and never stops idealizing him/never sees him for what he actually is (the narrative framing him as some kind of tragic martyr/saint eren from paradis with zero agency and basically... no clear motivation for the abovementioned mass murder, and not the actual complex tragic anti-hero/villain motivated by revenge and righteous fury he deserved to be, does not help). it lacks a good or even decent build-up - it's basically all tell and not show. now, if they'd actually been childhood friends to enemies to lovers/mutually co-dependent... it could have been interesting. sadly, it's not my cup of tea. of course this is just my personal preference, no hard feelings to the shippers.

misc. thoughts: enormous potential. she's been my fav female character since s1 - and ah, i miss s1!mikasa, when she had actually other stuff to do besides mothering eren. i love that she's the strongest warrior (second only to levi, obv), that her skills are never called into questions despite her gender, i love how she stands up for herself and the people she loves, that she may seem cold and stoic and yet has a such a huge heart, that she's not perfect but also sometimes awe-inspiring. sadly, she never really gets out of eren's shadow; what she lacks is an arc focused on herself. that's why imo getting deeper into the ackerman lore would've helped (also, you cannot make the main female character and the most popular male character descend from the same Unique Bloodline or whatever, and never really make them acknowledge it out loud; as a writer, you just can't lol). my spite is so strong that i'm currently writing a ridiculously pretentious fic that's 70% development for her character, to give her a voice, and 30% ackerthirsting. (yes, that's the fic i'm always vagueblogging about lmao, rip @ my brain). if any other rivamika fan is interested… mind you, it’s in italian tho, and idt i have the skills to translate into english.

misa:

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

daemon: mmh, maybe some kind of butterfly? beautiful, colorful, and short-lived.

best quality: glorious fashion sense, more inventive and ingenious than fans actually give her credit for.

worst quality: shallow, impulsive, and obv her dependence on/obsession with light (which stems from trauma btw, but still… the very opposite of a relationship between equals).

ship them with: rem, kinda (monster/human ftw!). also weirdly enough mogi, a little bit? she deserves someone who actually respects her… though she’s far from being a perfect angel. she may actually be crazier than light on some aspects. but in this house we stan evil ladies anyway, so i have no problem with that <3

brotp them with: uh, idk, maybe matsuda?

needs to stay away from: obv light. also takada.

misc. thoughts: a tragic victim of sexist writing. she may be… unhinged to say the least, but she didn’t deserve the abuse she got from light (and from the fans). the female characters’ writing in dn is so bad that idk if it’s on purpose, to kinda mirror the reality of women in a patriarchal society (dependent on men, housewives whose life entirely revolves around their husband/boyfriend etc.), or just casual misogyny lol. it’s even more baffling since we don’t know the author’s gender (they may be a man, a woman, nb, anything really). i tend for the latter option tho.

aegon greyjoy (now, i wasn’t expecting him lol):

i’m so sorry, i haven’t the slightest idea lmao. maybe gryffindor? mind you, it’s been a long time since i’ve re-read the books, so i don’t have many thoughts about him.

best quality: ugh, i really can’t remember much from his chapters :(( he’s not a coward, i guess? (lame answer, sorry!)

worst quality: definitely his religious fanaticism.

misc. thoughts: i genuinely like the greyjoys chapters, though i vastly prefer the martells (with the exception of theon and asha, bcs i love them). yes, they’re deranged. yes, victarion is… well, victarion lol. but the drowned god religion is actually interesting, grrm knows how to write trauma - every time aeron mentions euron and that freaking door i’m like… :// - and the tragedy of it all… just great writing all around.

A majority of respondents enjoyed the throwback or thought it was surreal to see Season 1 animation alongside Season 3.

I think the quality of the first and second season was great. Frankly, Season 3 has been a bit disappointing in comparison, because its scenes (for the most part) have been very simple without a lot of movement or detail (despite being animated and not a still image). I think S03 is the least visually-striking season so far, with minor exceptions.

It made me reflect on the overall quality of this season. While I don't think is a bad season, it's definitely a downgrade compared to the first 2 seasons. On the first 3 episodes, the show got me excited as the first 2 seasons, but after that its just not that much exciting anymore. I really hope it improves on the next arc, since everyone are saying next arc is the best arc

I think she'll be very difficult to work with. She's strong-minded, but she's not a leader and she doesn't have the knowledge necessary to rule a kingdom. She has some foolish ideas and unrealistic expectations, and I think they are going to cause conflict.

Historia enslaves humanity like the biggest femme dom the world has ever seen

Historia would inherit Grisha's and Founding Titan's powers. If she would be able to resist the First King's will then Rod would be able to save humanity from the titans. If she wouldn't be able to resist the First King's will then Rod would lose another family member to the FT and the rest of humanity would get their memories erased.

Historia, with memories of the first king, would’ve probably erased the memories of everyone inside the walls

I doubt they would kill Eren at this point, so if he got eaten they would do something like the first season again (Eren "dies", but he is back because of some random reason), but that would be a horrible choice on the plot.

I think humanity would be screwed bc then Mikasa, best girl, would be too depressed to continue to help fight.

I thinking lots of shit will be avoided and more people would be saved I don't trust eren

Mikasa would've absolutely wreaked havoc, possibly even killing Historia. The Survey Corps would've had to fight Historia (assuming she got taken over by the First King's memories like Frieda and Uri), and maybe try to get her eaten by a mindless titan to regain humanity's 'ace'.

Mind control-->shit machine dismantled-->Ackerman/oriental rebellion

Things would have remained the same as it has always been for the past 100 years. Historia would have been controlled by the will of the first Reiss King. She wouldn't have saved humanity from the Titans and the Reiss family would have altered the memories of humanity and our main squad probably would have been caught and executed.

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?

The sight of Eren's Titan carrying the bomb was awesomely surreal.

Mixed feelings overall. It was an exciting watch at the time, but in hindsight, it still feels like they're cutting critical details for the sake of time. Rod was too easy to defeat and didn't really amount to anything as a character or a threat, and Erwin's decision to let Historia participate in the battle didn't make any sense. It looked like they opted to give us Eren's POV on that scene instead of giving us Historia's, and I think whatever she said to convince Erwin was pretty obviously cut. This is disappointing because it makes the characters look like fools for taking unnecessary, unjustified, and illogical risks.

According to the poll this was the best episode so far in season 3. I, personally, didn't like it THAT much, but I wager there will be even better episodes in the future. If WIT keeps the streak of really good episodes going on, then Attack on Titan will regain it's popularity in the West.

I wonder if erens titan will be recognised by the civilians in the future. If he will ever be considered a hero or not.

Invisible String

CHAPTER THREE: LORE

Eren is back in the white room, alone.

"Hey! Founder Ymir but not! I talked to her! She remembers! You probably already knew that," Eren shouts into the abyss.

"Why are you yelling?" A voice calls. It was unlike any voice Eren had ever heard. The musical laughter that unscored the voice caught him off guard.

"Because I can't see you," Eren scoffs.

"You can't see me most of the time but yet I see and hear you. You're starting to overthink things, Eren."

POP!

The room shifts. They are back at the bar. The entity taking the form of Founder Ymir is back behind the bar, shaking a drink.

“Do you drink, Eren Jaeger?” she asks as she grabs a glass and pouring the contents of the shaker into it.

“Sometimes,” he replies.

She pushes the glass towards him. Eren takes it and drinks. It tastes like rubbing alcohol or at least what Eren thinks rubbing alcohol would taste like. He coughs.

“I can’t seem to get it right,” the entity replies before sighing. “Why don’t you tell her what happened in the past?”

“What good would that do? She’ll just think I’m a monster,” Eren mutters.

The entity reaches across the table and presses a finger to Eren’s head again.

The memories come flooding back.

The rumbling.

The children scream.

So much blood.

So many innocent lives.

He’s forced to relive it again.

But the memories slow.

Mikasa finds him.

The smile on his face. He knows this is the end. She’ll end his life. She’ll be a hero.

Even if she only sees him as family, it’s enough.

But the feeling of her lips on his before she raises a sword.

It is not a kiss between family or friends.

He feels it.

She loves him as much as he loves her but he has to die. He’s destroyed over half of the world.

The memories stop and he’s back in the bar.

“She loved you then, enough to do what she had to. She set you free. Set Ymir free, broke a curse. Then she mourned you for the rest of her life. Now you're just going to let her suffer again?" The entity returns to dumping liquor into a shaker.

"Who are you? What are you? Was that your real voice I heard earlier?" He asks as pushes the horrible drink away.

"Real is subjective. This is happening right now in your head but it's real. I'm a friend. A very bored, in need of chaos, friend. Also I am a sucker for a good love story. Two star crossed lovers given a second chance? It's art in reality. This time around, I just want to see you happy. That's all."

"That entire speech wasn't helpful. Can you...just tell me your name?”

“But where is the fun in that? Fine. I was once called Lore, at least in my female form.”

“What do you really look like?” Eren asked.

“There you go with that real and really. None of that matters. I chose whatever form suits me at the time. Sometimes I’m human. Sometimes I’m an animal. I have to say, Founder Ymir...isn’t close to what I look like. It’s just easier to be someone the person knows sometimes. But I suppose we’ve got past that now, haven’t we?”

The entity snaps its fingers and changes shape.

Instead of Founder Ymir, a tall woman with long black hair in a green dress stood in front of Eren. Her skin was extremely pale but not sickly. It was the eyes that got Eren, there seem to be flames in them.

“Oh, right. The eyes freak people out. Let me fix that,” the voice from earlier has returned. With another snap of the fingers, her eyes change to an almost golden color.

“Lore, you said?” Eren asks.

“Hmm...it’s been a while since anyone has called me that but for now, it’ll do. It’s been a while since I’ve been in this form. Why am I so tall? Ugh and these shoes….why did I wear heels? It’ll need adjusting but it’ll do.” The entity...Lore...holds her arms out checking out her body. “Alright, enough of that. When are you going to talk to her again? Are you truly meeting her tomorrow?”

“Yes, I am. I don’t know. I don’t think I slaughtered eighty percent of humanity is a great opening line,” Eren mumbles as he began to absentmindedly play with the liquid that was left in the cup that he had shoved away.

“You do have a point there. How about something from old life...something happy...there were not many of those moments...were there?” Lore began adding ice to the shaker this time. “Hmm….think on that. Your alarm is about to go off and I haven’t finished my drink. Think on what I said. Something happy.”

Eren’s alarm goes off.

Mikasa can't sleep.

She tosses and turns for hours.

There is no rest for her.

"This is ridiculous," she mutters to herself.

Why can't she sleep?

Why did she fall earlier?

Is the man from her dreams truly real?

Or is she slowly but finally losing her mind?

She's not sure.

All she knows is that being with Eren makes sense.

Mikasa has always felt a strange protectiveness over Eren.

Well, past Eren.

She hated the lessons in class about how evil Eren was. He had done horrible, awful things but couldn’t any of them easily become a monster? Wasn’t that what Eren did? It wasn’t excusable but neither was what Marley had done either. None of it was excusable.

Regardless of what her classmates had thought, history was not black and white.

It was clear that her feelings about past Eren had come from him sharing the name with her soulmate.

Mikasa sighs.

She looks down at her wrist. For a moment, she swore she saw a tattoo on it before it disappeared.

She was losing it.

Clearly, when she had fallen to the floor, she had hit her head and lost her mind, at least that’s what she blamed it on.

She didn’t know when she had fallen to sleep but she heard a pounding at the front door. She groans as she gets out of bed and makes her way to the door. She looks out the small hole to see her sister on the other side of the door. She sighs as she unlocks the door and opens it.

“I heard what happened,” Gabi says as she barges into the apartment. “Are you okay? Also, there was a boy? Did you get a boyfriend and forget to tell me?” Her younger sister sighs as she crosses her arms across her chest.

“That’s really what you’re angry about, isn’t it?” Mikasa teases her.

“No...well, maybe."

"He's just a new friend I made. He lives downstairs. He's my neighbor "

An easy explanation instead of Oh He's the boy I've been dreaming about for years but never met and he's my soulmate.

Mikasa sighs.

"That's so boring! Here I was hoping for something interesting!" Gabi exclaims.

"Sorry. You know me. I just paint and wait tables," she shrugs.

"Well. I just stopped by to see you. I have class in an hour. Call or text dad. He's worried."

Mikasa nods and Gabi leaves the apartment.

Mikasa takes a moment to breathe. Things were getting strange.

She wasn't sure what was real or if this whole situation was a part of something else.

But it made sense.

Her defending of Eren Jaeger

The dreams.

But how were they all happening?

What the actual fuck was going on?

Mikasa sighs.

She's exhausted.

But sleep evades her. She paints for a few hours to get her mind off of things.

She decides to go back to bed after the colors all start to blur.

She dreams of him.

His hands are her hair.

His shirt was discarded.

His lips on hers.

She can't stop touching him and tracing his body with her hands.

She wants this just as desperately as he does.

But there's a problem.

She has no idea what she's doing.

She's twenty three and she's never even kissed someone else.

But the way Eren is touching her.

His hands are pulling at her shirt.

He pulls away from her.

"You're so beautiful," he tells her with a grin that melts her heart.

Her face goes red.

Then there's a look of confusion on his face. "Fuck! It's actually you. Not just dream you."

"Is this a dream you have often?"

He sighs. "Sometimes. It's just...I didn't….I mean...well...fuck."

"What is this place?" She asks finally as she looks around at the aurora borealis that surrounds them. The stars that stretch out across the dark night sky.

"I think it's the bond between us. I don't know. I didn't completely understand paths to begin with but this is not that. This is…..something."

"Was I okay?" she asks.

He's confused

"The kissing. Was I okay?"

He smiles, "yeah. You were okay. Just don't think I'm a pervert if I would have known it was actually you, I wouldn't have. You barely know me. And while I remember other versions of you, I don't know this one."

He sighs and the scenery changes. They're back at the beach. Eren sits in the and fidgets with a piece of driftwood for a moment before chucking it away.

Mikasa just watches.

"It wasn't bad," she tells him when she finally decides he has suffered enough. "I enjoyed that."

"How much did you love me?" She asks after a moment.

He stares at her.

"More than you'll ever know or understand,” he answers.

It's a lot for her to take in but somehow she knows none of it's a lie.

They stare at one another for a good moment.

"My alarm is going off. I should go," he says and he disappears from the place.

Eren wakes up in the real world.

He sighs as he swipes the alarm on his phone up.

He wants nothing more than to run upstairs to see Mikasa.

He'd see her a 100 times if he could.

But she probably needs her space. She'll need to process this first.

Eren has the unfortunate memory of their lives together.

Eren meets them all sooner or later, h is friends from his previous life.

His friends that he had destroyed the world for.

But Mikasa was different.

Eren didn’t know how that made him feel.

“Eren!” Armin calls from the other room, pulling him out of his thoughts. “I’m going to my afternoon classes. Probably won’t be home until late.”

“You finally going to ask Annie out?” Eren asks as he runs a hand through his hair and leans in the doorway of his bedroom.

“Maybe. I don’t know. Either way, I won’t be home until late.”

Eren just simply nods as Armin makes his way out of the front door of his apartment.

What is Eren going to tell Mikasa?

Hey. I was in love with you but you said we were family and while I wanted to run away from all of our problems with you but I had to destroy the entire world instead to keep you safe. I told you to move on and fall in love with someone else but you didn’t and now we’re both here?

That sounds ridiculous.

He can’t tell her that.

Why does she believe him so easily?

Because she had been in those dreams too.

And then the dream this morning…..

There was nothing more he wanted to do but be physical with her. While they had spent that time together in paths….he could only imagine what fully having her would be like.

He needs to stop thinking about her like that.

Armin never asks about why Eren doesn’t date or doesn’t show interest in anyone.

Eren hasn’t told Armin who he is or who Armin is. Or how Annie is that Annie.

He can see all of their past lives.

His past.

But none of it matters, if he rights his mistakes with Mikasa.

He’ll take a cold shower.

Then he’ll go upstairs and pray she doesn’t see him as a pervert.
