Okay how about some shit for the Tetramand side of Manny's family? Because I've been wanting to.

Oumbia comes from a military family, not like 'high-up 'mom I met a girl and she's a general'' sort of military, just basic military, but it's still respectable social status

She'd got two siblings, a sister and a brother. Sister is part of the military, brother used to be but ended up leaving his position in favor of getting a metalworking job once he started having kids

While they're not from the exact Khoron culture I've been doing posts on, they are from a closely related one

Most things are similar, but there's differences in the status of Corpsemen (even if you retire and go through all the rites you still can't be around pregnant people, for instance), meat consumption, handling of bones, scavenger names, rituals and such, etc, range from 'nearly the same' to 'clearly more influenced by a neighboring/older culture rather than the central one'.

The two big ones that are more blatant/relevant with regards to depicting Manny and his mom are the meat and the bone things

The meat thing because, look diet is a big thing with people and also Armando is a butcher so... Oumbia continues to follow the rules of her specific culture, wherein you eat meat on special occasions (holidays, weddings, your birthday, etc, much like the earlier mentioned culture) but also on a weekly basis outside of these events- meat is the first and last thing you eat each week.

Specifically lunch on the first and last day of the week, because as one would guess religions with sun worship in their history are kinda commonplace amongst diurnal species in the galaxy and so noon is kind of a deal. Assuming good health and low risk, 24-hour (give or take for what planet you're on) fast at the end of each week which is the definitive 'time off'. If you're working to the end of the week? You get off just before lunch. If you're working the beginning of it? You get on just after lunch. There's prayers, it's a thing.

Like I said, Oumbia still rolls with this, only eating meat twice a week unless there's a special occasion or she has an opened wound (so, bruise doesn't count, but if you've got stitches where you got stabbed or something-) which is a situation where her culture allows it

Manny doesn't to the same degree. He does the weekly fast ever since he was grown enough, he says the proper prayers before he eats meat, but he does eat the stuff more often than his mother. Still not as often as he could, never more than one meal and a snack per day, if even that much, but more often than her

His dad and grandma have adjusted, and really the entire family eats less meat anymore than you would expect of a butcher's household. Though his grandma has vastly increased the cheese, eggs, and such in her cooking since Manny came along. Is very concerned about making sure her grandson is getting enough protein and fats in his diet.

And the bone things because 1) there's is one of the cultures that goes for consumption of bone broth, in this case for broken bones, lost teeth, and as part of one religious ritual, though not at any other times, and 2) because Manny lost his fucking hand

Again, this culture isn't as strict with the 'no bone eating, only eat flesh these times, etc' stuff, and part of this is that people's bones are used as materials for various crafts in it. When a loved one dies, and their bones have been cleaned, then those bones are crafted into goods used by their kin. Pens, blade handles, instruments, etc. As these things break down over time, they're ground into powder and stored to eventually be added to mortar or home construction, expansion, or repair. A leftover tradition from back before the planet first unified, as many similar traditions in the greater region they're from are.

Ok so here’s my problem with the new veep. It’s not that the characters are unlikeable, it’s that they’re straight up nasty. Iannucci’s veep had a layer of nuance. When selina was agonising over her nomination for party candidate and she screamed “so I’m just supposed to let a bunch of dead eyed white guys shit on everything I stand for?!” That little bit of you just felt sorry for her. She’s awful, but when the characters are written well they can be the worst politician you’ve ever seen but that sneaky bit of you just emphasises regardless. Mandel’s writing has made her unforgivably nasty. Compare her relationship with Catherine. In season one and two she’s at least giving lip service to the idea of being a good mother. You get the sense that in some twisted part of her mind she probably believes she is. Under Mandel Selina is plain cruel “you’re in therapy. Well you should really be seeing a dermatologist”. Whereas Iannuci had selina lock herself in a cupboard with Catherine at her own press event to try to say “there’s nothing more important than Catherine” (still untrue but it adds nuance). Iannucci did the same thing with Malcolm tucker - he was a notorious bastard but when he begged to be arrested with dignity you felt sorry for him! I also disagree with Mandel saying Selina’s a misogynist. Her issue is not that she hates women, it’s that she’s too rich and doesn’t understand the real world. She’s spoilt and gets pissed off with unruly men because she’s just used to having everything she wants. Also, I’m confused about this sudden ‘Selina doesn’t belong to any party’. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I always interpreted Iannuci’s Veep like his UK equivalent the thick of it. It’s never said outright but viewers knew malcolm tucker was based on new labour’s spin doctor Alistair Campbell. I always assumed (but then again I’m english) that selina was a democrat from her bills such as “clean jobs” and “families first”. Is mandel trying to blur the lines because of the current political climate? (Or because Mike is sean spicer?) I just don’t understand the direction veep is going in by destroying all its characters’ humanity.

I was a little concerned that some of you would think that a WOD with no score, and that typically gave you 90 seconds rest each round, would be beneath your ideal CrossFit workout expectations. But I saw all you sweating, and heard no complaints from anyone except Average Dave who has to scale every exercise.

The person who enjoyed the workout the most was Robert, who gave up most of his competitive edginess in order to coach Faith (The Kid) and give her a safe, fun workout. The person who enjoyed it second most was Faith (The Kid) who delighted in returning through the gate from the 200m run 20 to 30 seconds ahead of Robert who was giving it an honest effort. Faith (The Kid) runs like a Brentwood Deer.

The hottest days of the year so far are expected this week between Tuesday and Friday, and WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY ZERO WATER IN PLASTIC CANCER CAUSING BOTTLES !!!!!

Free

A big cardboard box lined with a towel and containing half a dozen newborn vampire cubs is set outside a store. The word "Free" is scrawled on the outside. The cubs haven't even opened their eyes, and are crawling about blindly, squalling for food and crying for their mother; whom they cannot smell any more. People walk past, some curious, some indifferent. But one particular witch stops. Carina hears the trills and crouches down, eyes softening and reaching in. Little hands grab her fingers, noses snuffle, and she feels one try to nip; tiny teeth barely denting her skin. She takes her hand away and they all immediately cry out in desperation, trying to find the gentle hand again. Getting a firm hold on the box, she picks it up and takes them all home; a chorus of purrs filling the car in the drive back. Her father sees the box, and then hears the sounds of cubs. "You found these little ones just outside a store?" "Yes, they were left there and it was getting cold." She prepares little bottles and fills them with infant formula and a bit of pig's blood. All the cubs are soon fed well and burped, swaddled in soft blankets and set on a bed. Hector can't help but smile as he watches them slumber, their tiny fists balled up by their heads and wings quivering in dreams. "We'll find the parents..." The rest of the gang and the witches come over to see the sight. They get nuzzled and licked, and the cubs become quite comfortable around their scents. A few start to open their eyes some days later. Each weighs 3 lbs, and they become more curious by the day, and eager to explore. Gibbs prepares some formula for them and they squall happily, climbing up his legs to reach the counter. "Ouch...watch those claws...YOW!" Videos of the witches and pirates caring for the cubs gets posted to YouTube, and soon Salazar and his men see the uploads; at a total loss for words. Armando even sheds some tears at the sight, and Gui pats his shoulder. "People change, Mando....perhaps it's time we do too...."
