A while back, I visited San Francisco for the first time. I was in an Uber on the way to my hotel when I spotted this statue. It's a good thing I wasn't driving, because I probably would have slammed on the brakes. I recognized my girl Athena immediately, and I loved the way the artist has played with the classical form in this bronze. I think it's based off of Athena Giustiani, although it's hard to be sure.
I had some trouble finding the statue again; I had to put my route into Google Maps and retrace it in street view. Eventually I found it in front of the Federal Reserve Bank, and with some help from Reddit found the artist, Arman (Armand Pierre Fernandez). He did a similar work based on the statue of Hermes and the Infant Dionysus, and another of Aphrodite that I'll reblog soon. You can see tons of artwork on his website as well.
As for this Athena, these are the only photographs I've been able to find of her online. I hope that someday I'll be able to make another visit to San Francisco to visit her in person.

Armand Pierre Fernandez. L’artista, uno degli esponenti più noti e apprezzati del Nouveau Réalisme, nell’arco della sua carriera ha realizzato opere connotate da una forte valenza ambientale, forse più attuali ora di quanto non lo fossero all’epoca della loro creazione.
