Ask Blogs on Cohost

Yesssss I had been sitting on these pages and waiting for this moment, but Asks are live on CoHost which means I can do proper, real, ask blogs for my characters, better than what tumblr can provide due to the way it's structured.

CoHost is great because you can make a whole lot of side blogs like tumblr, but unlike tumblr, they act wholly unique, as though you made a whole new account. (for context, CoHost refers to each new blog as a page, but they're not single pages, they're fully featured blogs)

You choose what blog you want to be represented as and that's how you appear. All your reblogs, additions, comments, interactions such as likes, will all originate from the profile/page you currently have selected as your active profile. There is no indication it is a sub-blog nor does it link back to the main account in any way.

As you can see in my first screen cap, my main account is Armaina, and Daga is a sub-blog and the comments are on yet another sub-blog, Talon. Yet I can easily use that drop down menu to switch between blogs (or pages as CoHost calls them) and comment as any one of them. Even actions such as editing are only available to the profile I'm currently active as.

When you do this, they display as unique accounts with no indication that Daga is a sub-blog of Armaina. Soooo much easier to do in-character interactions without making multiple accounts or re-directing users to a hub-blog and using text to indicate who you're supposed to be replying as or other round-about methods.

Follow lists are also unique per Blog/Page, making it easy to sort out blogs for characters, especially characters of different themes/series/whatever. Or even to have different clean and 18+ follow feeds for the appropriate clean and 18+ side-blogs you might have.

Yeah, CoHost openly allows sexually explicit content and has a robust content warning and tag filtering system, making it easy to both find what you like and filter out what you don't like. Which is likewise great for ask blogs that may want to dip into more sexually explicit territory.

CoHost still lacks a lot of certain features, like it's not possible to see the whole history of reblog additions like on Tumblr, it doesn't have a queue, and other quality of life interface options, but the fact that it makes every sub-profile act like their own unique blogs, makes it so much nicer for character blogs, if that's a thing you're interested in.

sounds to me like you should start running sorties at least. probably raids too

i’ve been running sorties but i don’t have anyone really to raid with yet, my friend that was going to run raids with me is currently taking a break. but i kinda need to catch up to him anyway because i only just started in january.

honestly like, sorties are THE MOST fun i have had so far. i love the challenge. i love the high level assassinations-- especially the ones where you’re limited to one type of weapon!! (raptor sortie with only a pistol was... hoo boy. an experience.)

but like, idk. i guess if i were a veteran i’d want to just free-farm the shit out of things, but right now i’m just taking it in pieces, enjoying the little parts of it. when people take away what i find fun, i just... don’t know what’s left?

Funny anecdote: I actually read it on Tumblr through a reblog, where it was rated E. For some reason, when I'm not on Ao3, my mind defaults to "E is for Everyone" even when I already know the fic is explicit, so in my half awake state I was not expecting it to get spicy.
