i don’t really know why they introduced prof sikander either like he’s cute but he doesn’t really add anything to the story

The same could be said about...oh, so many characters in this game. I don't know who they are, or what they contribute. I don't know why they're here. But they're nice. Or, at the very least, inoffensive.) Victor. Cedric. Diego. Even Barnaby. Like, I love him, but he hasn't done anything since Year 3, he has remained static.) Corey is the opposite, where it's clear why they created them...too clear. They feel like a plot device more than a character, and I find myself thinking maaaaybe that role should have gone to a pre-existing character instead. Rowan was right out, fine, but why not Tulip? (I can dream, can't I?) Or Liz. Or Jae. Hell, I'm surprised they didn't just use Penny, they use her for everything else in this game. In the case of Sikander, I like him too, but what always sticks in my craw is that he took the place of a canon Professor and for the life of me, I don't know why. Jam City had a very short leash when it came to to the creation of HPHM. Why would they exclude Charity Burbage, especially considering how much they seem to like fanservice? I keep thinking Sikander must have some greater purpose, but I also feel like that shoe would have dropped by now...

Arif Sikander was the Muggle Studies professor both before and after Charity Burbage held the position at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is also the uncle of Fawkes the phoenix’s new Muggle owner, Farid Sikander.

The elder of two brothers from a modest magical family, Arif was always encouraged by his father to excel academically. Because Hamza was born a Squib, Arif had high expectations put his shoulders as the only son with magical talent, and his father’s high expectations -- as well as the opaque, neglectful shadow it ended up casting over Hamza -- built a wall between the two brothers too high for anyone to surmount. That doesn’t mean, though, that Arif hasn’t tried. With the death of their father, Hamza and his wife and children are now Arif’s only living family, and since Hamza so thoroughly integrated himself into the Muggle World, Arif applied himself passionately to Muggle Studies in an attempt to bridge the divide. Despite this, Hamza has stubbornly rebuffed Arif’s attempts at reconciliation over the years, never accepting any invitations on Arif’s end for family outings and never inviting Arif to any get-togethers at his home either. What no one could’ve expected, though, was Albus Dumbledore’s old familiar -- Fawkes the phoenix -- ending up in the care of Hamza’s second son, Farid, and choosing the Muggle teenager as his new master, even going so far as to Disapparate with him to Hogwarts when the Ministry of Magic tried to separate them. In the end, the Ministry assigns custody of Farid to his uncle Arif so that he doesn’t end up sharing his knowedge of the Wizarding World with his mother and siblings -- and although Arif hates that the Ministry has put Farid in such a horrible position, he can’t help but feel some completion, being allowed to get to know his smart, soft-hearted nephew and -- after so long -- not having to live completely alone.

After he teaches Muggle Studies for seventh year, Dumbledore has him living in the Muggle world to get a better sense of modern muggles, over the course of Harry's years at Hogwarts. Charity Burbage takes over in his absence, having been married to a muggle, and a contact outside of Hogwarts.

It's after the war, that Dumbledore, by way of his portrait and now-Headmistress McGonagall, asks Sikander to be the full time Muggle Studies teacher again.

He accepts the post, taking the summers to spend time in muggle towns and learning the newest pop culture and technology. He is also a part of the group working with Elliott to modernise the wizarding world.

Sikander also works with McGonagall to make muggle studies as part of the core classes, after the events of ‘97-’98, and as a part of a wider reckoning of how wizards view muggles.

There’s the bittersweet fluff!! 😭 Oh God, I love these two so much, I can’t stand it...

Okay, okay. So first things first, this prompt really is perfect, considering how I already related the smell of cinnamon to Farid (making it one of the scents that comes off of him since he cooks with it a lot, hence anyone attracted to him would spell that in his Amortentia). And from the very beginning, you get me in the feels by featuring Arif -- damn it, I so need to write/draw something with him and his relationship with Farid, because yeah, the poor guy loves his nephew so much and cherishes being able to share his home with him and treat him almost like a son, even despite the less-than-ideal circumstances their living arrangement comes about. (And yes, he absolutely would be the type to want his timid nephew to go spend time with friends -- my poor, lonely aro-ace!professor would never want Farid to feel alone like he has, so much of his life. 😿 )

Okay, and then Fareva’s interactions -- damn it all, these two are totally, completely precious, and I without fail grin so much reading their exchanges. Reva’s reaction to how absolutely friggin’ pure Farid is -- Farid instantly confirming that yes, he most definitely wouldn’t lie to someone that he loved them by immediately getting very upset and angry hearing some guy did that to Reva -- Farid’s silent appreciation for magic when Reva reheats his mug with her wand -- and then of course the indirect kiss by them sharing a drink. Be still my heart! 🥰

I love this so much, darling!! I’ve already read it several times, and I cannot wait to read it several times more!! 💛💛💛

R*kep*ck ruined any original professors JC introduce, i mean i just don’t let myself get attached to them or even like them cos i’m not dealing with that shit again. 😒

Part of me wants to say that you don't need to worry, because it's unlikely that they'll pull a plot twist like that twice...but then again, Merula happened. Not sure if that means anything goes and that it's even more likely, or less likely because that would result in the game having three different betrayals. I don't know, but there is a precedent in the books. Both Quirrell and Fake Moody ended up being secret villains. There was also Snape in HBP, if you want to count that. Not sure if it does count because Harry was onto him from the beginning, but I think the reader was meant to assume that he was wrong...eh, that's a debate for another time. Point is, Sikander wouldn't be suspicious to me, except we know Charity Burbage exists, and there's no sound reason I can think of for why we got an original teacher instead of seeing her, unless they want to do plot-related stuff with the Muggle Studies teacher that they felt couldn't do with Burbage. Which would only make sense if...well, if they were planning to make this character a villain.

Farid Sikander is a pacifistic, idealistic, bleeding-heart Muggle who’s been thrown head-first into a world full of magical spells and creatures. 

After coming upon a wounded phoenix in the woods near his home in Ireland and nursing it back to health, he soon discovered that the bird he’d found was not only magical, but had once been the familiar of the most powerful wizard in an entire world of wizards, Albus Dumbledore. With Fawkes having chosen young Farid as his new owner, the Ministry of Magic ends up with a conundrum -- even if they were able to erase the Muggle teenager’s memory, it’d be way too difficult to keep a familiar as powerful as Dumbledore’s away from his chosen human, but under the Statute of Secrecy, no Muggle could be aware of the Wizarding World. Eventually, using the case of Harry Potter and his ex-guardians the Dursleys as an example, it was decided that Farid could keep his knowledge of magic if his uncle Arif Sikander (who unlike Farid’s father Hamza had been born with magic) became his legal guardian. This effectively cut Farid off from his family, with his Muggle mother and siblings remaining in the dark about the true reason why he was being sent away from home -- but at least the boy was able to retain his memories of his dearest friend and familiar, Fawkes, as well as the amazing new world he’d discovered his family had secret links to. 

Now boarding near Hogwarts with his uncle, the newly reinstated Muggle Studies professor Arif Sikander, Farid serves as an assistant for the Care of Magical Creatures professor, Rubeus Hagrid, helping him with the magical creatures at the Hogwarts preserve and in the Black Lake and surrounding woods. Although Farid has no magical talent whatsoever, he does have a remarkable talent with creatures, both magical and not, thanks to his gentle, pacifistic spirit and selfless, forgiving heart. Farid has a lot of trouble reaching out to the students of Hogwarts since they -- having magic themselves -- almost seem like they’re of a higher “class” than him, but fortunately he does find a few kindred spirits who help him learn how to stand tall with confidence and also help bring this idealistic dreamer back down to earth sometimes too.
