Next weekend some of my work will be up for auction to fundraise for food security organizations @hookuaaina and @kilaueacommunityagcenter! Check out @okaa_san’s IG for the auction and details! 🥭🍠🍈🍌🥥🥬 “This fundraiser, Hānai Kaiaulu, is born from a desire to give back to the communities that give to us. The concept of hānai may be familiar to most as "adoption", but there is another definition. Here, hānai refers to a responsibility far deeper than mālama (caring for others) - it is a reciprocity of sorts. This fundraiser is called Hānai Kaiaulu (loosely translated: "supporting/feeding the community") to honor this cycle - the two recipient non-profits have fed our communities, now it is our opportunity to support them and fill their proverbial ʻawa bowl. 🥭🥭🥭 100% of sales from this silent auction will benefit ʻĀina Hoʻokupu o Kīlauea, which works to distribute mea ʻai (food) and provide solutions to food insecurity on Kauaʻi, and Hoʻokuaʻāina, a loʻi (taro patch) that works to help at-risk youth through ʻāina-based education while also providing mea ʻai to the community at large.
