ARES, Bodyguard of Santino D’Antonio

Personality: Extroverted, loyal, dedicated

how is orin with ares and gianna? :3 (i wanna see them lol)

ARES - Although she isn’t too fond of them, Orin tries to make peace with her, which makes them on good terms. However, Orin is also a bit scared of her because of her constant glares whenever they’re with Santino; she doesn’t really like how extroverted they are since that leads her to believe that they might have ill intentions for Santi. (AKA guard dog behavior)

GIANNA - Literally best friends. If Orin can’t be with Santino at the moment, they’ll run STRAIGHT to Gianna (and if she’s busy, they’ll just watch her work). These two will literally have the longest conversations and it will never get boring; what do they discuss exactly? Probably everything. If it weren’t for Bowery King and Gianna being busy, these two would be the bestest of friends.

Just an idea (maybe new headcanon for Santino and his bodyguards + Santino's and Ares' trust analysis by me)

What if Santino saved/helped each of his main bodyguards and they wanted to follow him to show their loyalty and gratitude to him?

^Because here they have the mugshots (you can zoom in on the pics for details), so maybe he helped them get out or something?

With that being said!

Santino helped Ares get out of her captivity or some serious problems. He saw her determination, strength, and will. And the fact she is mute and Santino knows sign language is just perfect. So, she either chose to follow him to show her gratitude and her loyalty OR also another option, Santino literally befriended her and she became his best bodyguard + showing loyalty to him to thank him for believing in her. I mean, there are a lot of possibilities, obviously. I'm just putting out my current thoughts :]

I also think that Ares was maybe insecure about her skills since she's mute and it's not very often that you see a disabled assassin, but, well, here she is serving as right hand to the Camorra prince. That's quite a success!

They're such a duo... the trust between them. Santino can't just trust anyone, so there must've been something in the past that made them so close and trust each other. Ares literally sacrificed herself for her boss so she buys him more time to escape.

^She winked at him, "telling" him that she has his back as always.

I think the last time they saw each other, that look when the mirror door closed between them, and all Santino could see was his own reflection, a part of him knew Ares wouldn't come back. I think that, at least. Because he was ready to sign her to follow him, if you look closely at his hand for a brief second, you'll see what I mean.

^To me, this scene has a deeper meaning.

When John came to the Continental, Santino knew Ares was dead.

And there's so much more honestly. When she came to tell him that she fucked up (the short scene after they failed to kill John at Gianna's ceremony), I don't think he was mad at her at all. I do think she felt a bit disappointed with herself, due to her facial expression, BUT Santino wasn't angry at all, he looked calm. Maybe that's just me, but yeah.

So, a lot of trust between them, and I love it. It really feels special. Again, maybe that's just me, but I feel like there's so much more about Ares and her friendship with Santino.

Alright, my point was, Santino adopted his bodyguards. Thank you very much :3

Tonight at 4:00 PM, a bodyguard of a D’Antonio family member causes a stir amongst people and emissaries, stating, quote; “I think all the managers should duel to the death and whoever survives keeps their place as manager”.

This immediately caused both backlash and support of the bodyguard, support from Gianna D’Antonio and Santino D’Antonio.

Backlash from Killa Harkan because he got absolutely slammed in the replies. More on the evening news later!

I’ll be so glad when everyone goes to see Chapter 4. The movie has left me feeling some emotions and we need to talk about about Skyline is about to evolve. I am prepared to write the greatest John Wick fanfic of all time. 🙇🏽‍♀️

This little post I made on Akira and John exploded more than I expected, so I shall offer more interesting observations that I noticed about lighting choices/colour symbolism in the John Wick movies. Before we get into it, I would like to recommend these analysis [1, 2] by @evren-sadwrn on Marquis de Gramont, John Wick and Helen Wick talking about the same topic as I am below.

Charon

Most of Charon's scenes throughout the franchise were otherwise dark backdrops only brightened up by the lamps/light sources around him, which exemplifies the fact that he is the most reliable, dependable and trustworthy character, ally and friend in this dark criminal underworld, fitting for someone named after the ferryman of the underworld in Greek mythology.

The only scene where Charon notably breaks this pattern was his final scene when the Marquis shot him when he and Winston and everyone else were drenched in the Marquis' harsh golden lighting, which was heartbreaking to say the least.

Marcus

Similarly, Marcus' scenes in the first film had mostly grey backdrops, representing the stability, monotony, and lack of transformation of his life, in contrast to John who just lost his wife at the time.

The two exceptions happened during the two most important points of his character arc, the first one being darkly-lit when Marcus decided to not shoot a resting John from the Continental's window and warned him instead, and the second one being brightly-lit when Marcus got beaten up and then killed by Viggo in his home for helping John. These two scenes were also backdropped by yellow lighting as opposed to the blueish hues from his previous scenes.

Cassian & Ares, Gianna & Santino

I'm putting these four characters together in the same section because they share a common theme in terms of lighting choice, especially during their last scenes. Both Cassian's and Ares' final fight with John ended in brightly-lit settings with white lights. On the other hand, both Gianna's and Santino's death scenes took place in darkly-lit settings. The parallels, man, the parallels!

Caine

The lighting choice for Caine was kinda hard to pin down, and I think it's because it's meant to represent the emotional conflict Caine faces throughout Chapter 4. The fluctuation between light and dark, neon and natural lights reflects his dilemma very well, with his darkest lit scene arguably being his duel with Koji, where it's also the only scene he took down his sunglasses, thus signifying his lowest point in the movie.

But I think it's also worth noting that despite being the obvious second main character after John in the fourth film, Caine was merely a side actor basking in other people's spotlights, whether that be the Marquis' harsh golden lights, Koji's neon lights, or John's (more accurately Helen's) yellow candlelights/sunlight. Caine was a supporting role up until the post-credit when he gets to reunite with his daughter. That's when he gets his own spotlight and arguably the brightest scene he's ever appeared in.

Okay, that's all I could find as of now. There are definitely more characters to dissect and study but I will stop here. If you want more analysis like this, please reblog.

Ares and Chidi have a sibling bond; whenever Santino and Vincent are too busy arguing, they just mess around

^Chidi likes to give her piggy back rides around the halls cause Ares basically weighs nothing to him

Cassian is also like a brother to Ares

Why was everyone so flirty in John Wick 2? Santino OBVIOUSLY, he was even thinking about it and attempting to flirt in his own way. Ares fucking GRABBED John's ass (lucky bitch) and was flirty with him, Gianna got fucking NAKED in front of him-
