lol @ people thinking that believing they are together is harmful or disrespectful. dnp know how it looks, both being gay (and coming out around the same time with Dan even bringing up Phil in a vital way in his video) not just living together but in a forever home they designed together. Constant jokes and allusions to relationships & sex, taking photos of/with each other in a state of undress. If they didn’t want people thinking they’re together they could have easily shut it down, especially in their coming out videos.

We can respect that they’ll (probably) never tell us as in ‘yes we are a couple’ or go into the intricacies of their actual relationship but to think they’re not committed for life …I don’t get people who think they’re bros. Read between the lines people

Literally like they had so many opportunities to say they aren’t but they keep just saying shit like Dan in BIG and those magazine interviews and even in distopia daily when Dan was like “are we gay did we fuck” like there’s all these thing a they say that if they really weren’t anything they wouldn’t have said at all. Like even after we all knew the ap bedroom was a set we never saw Phil’s actual room they could have showed us a photo when they admitted it wasn’t real of Phil’s actual room if they wanted to squash anything. Dan could have left that whole section out if BIG but he didn’t because they want us to know without telling us that’s just the way we all are and yeah Idk if they’ll ever tell us, who knows at this point but like Dan told us at least that way in 2009 they were together and if they didn’t want us to think about it any further they could have just never even said anything about that

I’m gonna speak over anon because I’m literally terrified of phannies coming after me even though I’ve rebranded, I still get hate anons from them even now which is crazy. Anyway. It’s honestly a relief to read a respectful take on why someone’s left the phandom. Your words put my exact feelings into articulation and I think my main emotion is just... disappointment? I feel like dnp hold their audience at an arm’s length now and for good reason. It’s impersonal, and after what we put them through I think they deserve that. The fact that people are still trying to keep some kind of momentum going, hyping up cookie-cutter content or you know, making aus about a literal REAL BABY just doesn’t sit right with me. It feels good and healthy to move on. They aren’t interesting now. Seeing people running full time phan blogs makes me actually uncomfortable. Because I don’t feel like it’s really about dnp so much as clout seeking half the time these days.

and you’re totally right. one of the weirdest shifts for me that kinda gave me the final push to leave was the fact that dnp stopped caring about their audience. and the thing is, dnp always seemed different to other youtubers because they had this connection with us. twice daily livestreams, one a week upload from the gaming channel, twice monthly updates between them… take 2018 for example, if you asked any phannie they’d probably agree that it was the best year for us all because it felt like dnp were on this emotional wavelength with us where it was like: ‘okay this is the content we like and this is the content we’re getting’ and it was so perfectly balanced. it never felt like they were just pumping out content for the sake of it. they could take a boring ass game like ‘google autocomplete’ and make a real good video out of it. that was the content and the dan and phil i enjoyed.

and now??? dude. the mere idea that phil went ahead and deleted all his lessamazingphil videos to reach a larger audience is just…….. if i cared more i’d be mad. they so clearly want a different audience now. im sorry to the phannie moots that follow me still but that’s just what i see. phil’s content went from lighthearted jokey funtimes to ‘oh my god you’re a 30 something year old man making content on the same level as fuckin troomtroom and you’re still making butthole face thumbnails to appease the algorithm.’ and that’s just heartbreaking bro. what the fuck happened. i was around for the cereal tasting video (i never watched it i don’t think i’ve watched a single video since last year) and like………… the hype it got? for a low quality looking buzzfeed quiz type video is just… yeah. dude, this goes beyond the argument of ‘BUT JENNA MARBLES MADE THESE VIDEOS!!!! SHE DID IT AND EVERYONE LOVED IT!!!’ and the difference between phil and jenna was: jenna put a whole lot of fuckin effort into those videos to make them unique. not just: trying on makeup! but instead: ‘trying on makeup and then squirting eye drops into my eyeballs to make myself cry to then see which one is best for dramatic crying purposes!!’ there was a whole spin on the take that i’ve never seen phil EVER do. sorry to this man but he really…… isn’t as creative as he used to be. he falls flat every time in his videos and it makes me laugh when i see the same 😯 face in his thunmbnails with the most boring looking video idea painted in bright colours. this is the same man that was making those wacky ass videos in 2009? could have fooled me. are we sure he isn’t working for buzzfeed or something because that’s the vibe i get from him lmao.

and dan. ohhhh dan. yeah! idk if it's just my environment always hanging on to cringe culture and it just being easier to keep it on the down low, not that anyone would actually care. I feel so embarrassed about it just due to the stereotypes of their fanbase being teenage girls and me just happening to fit that stereotype. I don't like the idea of my irls seeing me as a "fangirl" cause then they kind of already have their opinion about me made up so I just try to avoid it altogether

I think this happened by accident but even the phrase "dan and phil" evokes this immediate reaction of "it's just a bunch of crazy fangirls" or "they're all creepy and weird" and I think that's the main reason why it's hard to talk about. I wouldn't know how to explain it to an outsider. it just happens to be one of the most popular fandoms where people already had their assumptions about the fanbase because they hear so much about the few extreme cases

I was always one of the "I don't understand fandoms" people until about 2017, and to this day dnp still remain the only people I have ever fully stanned. not that stanning more than one thing is bad but, I think it speaks to why I'm still here having been someone who had never participated in fanfom of any kind until 2017 (2018, really, because I was ghost for a year) and I think if it was just me going through my "middle school fangirl phase" then I would've been gone by now but dnp mean a whole fucking lot to me and I'm definitely here for the foreseeable future. even if I feel embarrassed from time to time

For me it’s the fact that he disappears for like a year or whatever and then comes back with an hour and a half long tour promo and then expects these huge venues to sell out. Like dude I know YouTube passed on your show (which all companies do to people all the time like it’s not just you bro) but there are other outlets which you could express yourself on or even just drop a tweet every now and again to show you’re still active to your fans. I would’ve had more respect for him if he had just dropped a five minute video saying YouTube passed on his shows and he was pissy about it but he decided he needs money now so he’s gonna make videos again.

dan is trapped in this horrible cycle of constantly wanting more and more, it not working out for him, dipping and then coming back wanting more and more.

dan maybe used to be relatable? back in the early days of youtube? but how can he be now? he lives in a big fuck off house, can afford to just not do his job for a few years and then when it suits him, he can appear again and go: buy my merch buy my tour tickets im one of you !! like…… babygirl no you are not.

there’s that one old liveshow clips where he talks about how growing up as a kid, he couldn’t afford merch and how much that affected him. because when you’re a kid you don’t understand how little it matters in the grand scheme of things, when you’re 13 it feels like the end of the world. and i GET that. and then he goes on about how him and phil don’t make much merch and how if they do it’s relatively affordable for everyone, and at the time i really respected that. now he’s out here charging £40 for a fucking journal??? and phil £50 for the fucking cheapest ass looking pyjamas????? dude. wtf happened? what actually happened? they got greedy and dan really did think he could dip from youtube for a year and come back and still make the same figures on his paycheck…. it’s a wake up call for him i hope. and as for phil. stop trying to appease the algorithm or pull in new fans. you have an incredibly dedicated and loyal audience that tbh deserves better imo. phil deleting lessamazingphil videos in lieu of making shorts to “reach a wider audience” is insane to me. insane. nobody is discovering dnp in 2022. it’s either the same fans or old ones coming back. they really gotta realise that, and that’s why so many people left phandom. you get ignored so what do you expect?

idc if the tour flops. what even if the purpose of it? ii was a stretch because even that, the bare bones of the tour was weak af but nobody cared because it was them that was the appeal, not the content. and dan alone just isn’t as strong of a personality to carry an entire tour by himself. idk why they don’t see that: the content of tatinof and ii wasn’t fun or good or groundbreaking. it was dnp as a duo that people wanted to see. good luck to him, at least when it goes horribly wrong he’ll have something else to make an hour long video about :/
