pt. 1
sooooooo arcane episode 3. i mean, by the title of the episode alone i knew this was a hard one. and already knowing about some of what’s going on with Jinx later on, it’s still a really sad watch.
of course Vi would turn herself in, that’s just the kind of person she is and she only has her sister that she cares for (that’s related to her). however, because of her lack of life experience and age and the person that she is at this point in time, *of course* there are workings that have gone on for years with fallout (referring to Vander and Silco’s dispute but also the conflict between Piltover and Zaun as a whole [glad we got a name for the undercity, but the way it was briefly spoken about made it seem like it’s not an official name or seen as its own city that can exist independently. and at this point we just don’t know if it can exist on its own, separate from Piltover. who’s to say?] and the whole history of mages and magic and how that lead to world where is today) and that fallout made it so Vi’s choice, a noble one, actually got more people harmed than if she didn’t.
i’ll get to it later in this post but Powder isn’t the only one who made a grave-caliber mistake in this episode. it’s just that Powder’s gave a more immediate and destructive consequence.
So shimmer is more an overall body and fitness/ability enhancer rather than a drug (but Deckard willingly took it this time so perhaps there’s a dependence on it anyway, like a drug)? Interesting. Hearing that Benzo got *torn apart* (verbatim) is really scary—if Deckard can do that on a shimmer, a teenager, does that mean Vander was holding back when he was on shimmer and simply killed Deckard by slamming his body against industrial metal walls while holding him at the neck? i would think so.
and Grayson, oh god. the kind of person who seemed okay and only wanted to do a good job at their job because they care (no known ulterior motives at this time, that we know of) and to get that kind of ending for her is just unsettling.
and again! Vi is just the kind of person to do this—go after Vander (w/ assistance w/ Claggor and Mylo) because she’s lost so much already and probably sees the current situation as her fault, which, there’s no blame but her action did help lead to where things ended up, no matter how altruistic her intentions may have been.
this time, Vi tells Powder to stay behind, tries to tell her sister that she isn’t ready, that she’s all she has left—which is true—anything to get her to stay put for her and their found family’s safety. Powder takes this, her being called a “jinx” at times, overhearing her weakness compared to her siblings at their age, all of it, and finally we see her breakdown (partially manifesting as her *breaking* a toy, just thought that was important to note). no parents, guardian, sister or surrogate siblings around and we see her in this state come to a conclusion on her own: that she *can* help. but because she was led to this thru a boiling point it was bound to lead to another new thought/idea that would inevitably lead to more “jinxes.” she had no one to bounce ideas off of (ideas that wouldn’t be immediately shot down), no supervision, made a hypothesis with the hexcrystals(?) and the one (1) occasion she had an experience with them they exploded and easily could’ve killed someone.
Silco’s posse/family/mob/club/men/etc. has wayyy more numbers than i expected. also guess we’re never seeing that dr/scientist again lol.
we still don’t get the exact reason or action that led to Vander’s betrayal and subsequent attempted drowning of Silco but Vander says he regrets it and seems to genuinely mean it, too.

Hey everyone, while I work on a few different fics, I wanted to talk about Arcane. I haven’t really seen anyone talk about this or make comparisons so I thought I’d put in my 2 cents.
Warnings: Spoilers for Arcane, contains theories/thoughts for S2, lemme know if I need to add more
Ok so we all know that moment when Powder makes her monkeybomb and lets it loose in the building right? It was devastating, yes and I really loved seeing the different perspectives of the bomb going off so we got to see what happened to everyone.
But I’d like to talk about the first person to get hit. Deckard. Powder also gets hit around the same time and gets blasted off the window ledge, but I wanna focus on Deckard. At this point, Deckard is the closest to the bomb when it goes off, but he is a Shimmer-monster.
The first time I saw that scene, I actually expected him to be at least injured. I pretty much knew the bomb wouldn’t have straight killed him but I did expect him to be hurt. He seemed disoriented at first until Silco’s order of ‘kill them’ gets his attention.
I’ve seen Arcane 6 times start-finish along with watching individual episodes out of order and honestly, I hadn’t thought about Deckard a lot until a few days ago when I watched the finale and it finally hit me. I’m probably stupid or wrong about this and as an Arcane-only fan, I have no idea if this goes against the game or not, but I think Deckard was purposely supposed to survive Powder’s monkeybomb.
Lemme elaborate.
The setting of Arcane (currently) is Piltover, which is a huge city consisting of 2 parts, the ‘Topside’ (Piltover) and the Undercity (Zaun). They seem to be pretty opposite of each other so it makes sense that the technology available would be wildly different as well. In Piltover, we have the Hextech technology from Jayce/Viktor. In the Undercity, we have Shimmer/drug enhancements. Then we have Viktor, who merges the two, but that’s a whole other post but Viktor does play a role.
Anyways, this monkeybomb explosion is the first time we see the beginnings of both sciences interacting with each other. The bomb envelopes Shimmer-Deckard and even reaches Singed, his lab and Shimmer. And, as stated earlier, Shimmer-Deckard appears ok after the blast.
At first, I thought Deckard was supposed to be a sort of ‘sacrificial’ character to show the effect of Shimmer, but I also realize he’s actually pretty similar to Viktor. Both are from the Undercity and partner with a morally gray character (Viktor willing, Deckard not). Both are also forced to use Shimmer from their respective morally gray character (Viktor’s illness makes him feel like he has to while Silco literally kidnaps Deckard and makes him ‘volunteer’). And they both end up getting addicted to the Shimmer after their first use. Deckard willingly takes the vial Silco offered to him in ep3 as Vi+co try breaking Vander out and Viktor willingly goes to Singed for help in ep7 and is given a ‘variant’ of Shimmer, which Viktor merges with the hexcore.
Because Shimmer-Deckard was shown to survive the monkeybomb explosion *(which had 4 crystals inside)* with little injuries, I think that’s what’s gonna save Viktor from Jinx’s Fishbones rocket in the finale. I know I said I was an Arcane-only fan, and it’s true as I’ve never played LoL, but I did do some research about the game over the times I’ve watched the series. I used google, so please correct me if I’m wrong about anything.
Jinx uses a stabilized version of the hexgem to power Fishbones, but I believe the stabilized version is more powerful than the ‘un stabilized’ (jagged kind Powder found in Jayce’s apartment), but because Viktor has already merged Shimmer and Hextech, I believe whatever he’s created (that new kind of blood cell shown in ep7 I think) will allow him to survive the blast.
I believe Jayce is the only other Champion/playable character in the Council (I don’t think Mel is a LoL character) so I believe Viktor will also save Jayce as well. But Cait’s mom (Cassandra?), all those other council members and possibly, even Mel, will all die. I can see Mel going either way. One, she dies and Mel’s mom starts a war with Piltover. Two, Mel lives (is injured) and finishes her arc with her mother (the people who killed Mel’s brother still want vengeance).
But yeah, I just thought showing Shimmer-Deckard surviving the monkeybomb kind of foreshadows Viktor surviving Jinx’s rocket since Viktor’s also technically Shimmer-injected/fused as well.
Thanks for reading💖

I’m going feral over how Mel and Viktor’s parallels with eachother are rooted in magic. Both saw magic as their salvation and their prayers.
Mel is born with magic whereas Viktor sought it artificially. Mel is from privilege and born in wealth. She could see the sky as easily it was to breathe. She grew up in a culture that emphasized on physical strength. Viktor was born in poverty and Zaun’s inability to breathe set his life with a countdown. Zaun also valued adaptability and intellect instead. Mel and Viktor casted aside the mentalities set upon them by their mentors to fight for their own.
Both desired and dreamed to create their own paths with their own ambitions. Both saw and used Jayce as their way to do so.

by the way. people are allowed to complain about this season feeling rushed. i don’t know when it became a thing in this fandom to completely jump people who have valid complaints like YES arcane is a fantastically produced and beautifully animated show and nobody will be able to top it but they did start things with some characters only for it to never go anywhere so it can all be wrapped up in three episodes 😭

the way their relationship wasn’t just represented as platonic or romantic but just pure love is so beautiful to me. they’re not just soulmates but their souls were somehow made for each other. they’re are destined together in every timeline. EVERY TIMELINE. it was tragically beautiful and bittersweet. souls intertwined on a singular celestial level; an eternity together in the cosmos. not as lovers or friends or partners but as soulmates. everything was for them. and that truly was such a beautiful thing.

So like. Did anyone else notice that Jayce doesn't immediately shoot Viktor? He only powers his hammer on AFTER Viktor has opened his eyes. Below is Jayce's reaction to seeing Viktor (his Viktor, from his universe, not the future version of him) for the first time after walking into the dome. For the first time in months. That's like. A look of wonder. Almost reverence.
Tumblr media
Assuming the Jinx/Rictus/Vander fight is cut to real-time after Jayce has gone into the dome, he's staring at Viktor for like. 5 minutes.
Tumblr media
My interpretation here, of Jayce's expression just before Viktor finally opens his eyes to see Jayce in the room with him, he's committing Viktor to memory, before he has to kill him.
Edit: I almost missed it but like. HE IS SMILING For like 2 frames it's an outright smile. He leans in towards him, too. I cannot handle this.
