These arborsculptures by Axel Erlandson, a Californian farmer. Erlandson taught himself how to grow trees into peculiar shapes. The method of how he grew these trees remained a mystery, and even his family was left in the dark. In 1947 Erlandson opened his “Tree Circus” to the public and drew crowds of curious visitors, partially thanks to the efforts of Robert Ripley. Ripley featured Erlandson’s work in his “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not” on multiple occasions.

Tree shaping is the practice of training living trees and woody plants into creative shapes by carefully orchestrating how the tree and the branches grow. Techniques such as grafting, bending, creasing, framing, weaving, twisting, braiding, pruning and ring barking are engaged to archive the unusual shapes.
Tree shaping is a form of living sculpture, sharing a common heritage with further artistic horticultural and agricultural practices, such as bonsai, espalier, and topiary, and employing some similar techniques. A unique and distinguishing feature evident in many examples of the work is the purposeful inoculation of living trunks, branches, and roots to form artistic designs or functional structures.
Tumblr media
Tree shaping has been experienced for at least several hundred years, as demonstrated by the living root bridges built by the ancient War-Khasi people of the Cherrapunjee region in India. These are being kept and further developed today by the people of that region. Early 20th century practitioners and artisans included banker John Krubsack, Axel Erlandson with his famous circus trees, and land engineer Arthur Wiechula. Contemporary designers include artists Peter Cook and Becky Northey, who sound their work "Pooktre", arborist Richard Reames, who coined the term "arborsculpture", and equipment designer Chris Cattle, who uses the phrase "grownup furniture".

Zondag 14 februari – Stichting het levende dorp, is op zoek naar grond. Hoe lang al? Waarom krijgen dit soort initiatieven zo zelden kansen?
Stichting Het Levende Dorp is opgericht in 2016.

Arbortecture - Ultimate in Building Green, Live Trees Grown Into Useful Items
Tumblr media
Arbortecture is like architecture but with living trees. Trees have unique redeeming ecological uses. Because of that fact a group of young architect have focused on developing a living tree-house at the University of Stuttgart in Germany. The students have a test site is located on the grounds of University at the Institute of Basics in Modern Architectural Design; the experiment is run by, Ferdinand Ludwig, Oliver Storz and Hannes Schwertfeger. The team attached year-old willows to the scaffolding, bending them into shape. More trees are then grafted on, they grow together. After several years, the growing trees take over as load-bearing supports. Finally, the supports can be removed and the entire rig can be moved to its final destination, where the floors can then be slotted into place.
The Fab Tree Hab this design was developed at MIT by Mitchell Joachim, Ph.D. Lara Greden, Ph.D. Javier Arbona, M.S. the team envisions the this house that contributes to the environment is grown with kitchen compost, circulates water, and provides for shelter.
The living bridges of Cherrapunji, India are grown using the living roots of the Ficus elastica tree. The native peoples for as long as five hundred years have guided the growth of the roots to create these amazing bridges. The bridges are growing and gaining strength as they age.
Marcel Kalberer from Germany, has made a career of planting large bundles of willow to create structures of amazing detail. These bundles sprout and cover the structures with green leaves. The Museum of Outdoor Art in Englewood, Colorado, presents "Weidenblume" a living willow sculpture by German artists Marcel Kalberer and Sanfte Strukturen. Their first work preformed in the US will be installed in June of 2010.
Arborsculpture is the art of shaping young trees into useful or artistic shapes, furniture, bridges even a ladder has been grown with living tree trunk. Pioneered by Axel Erlandson who opened a roadside attraction in 1947 featuring his unique trees. Today this garden art is sprouting up among master gardeners, landscapers and home hobbyist around the world. Anyone with room for trees can play with bending and grafting and even grow their own living garden chair.

POKEMON GO - MACHINE FOR HEDONISTIC APPEARANCE
Context Plan and Context Axon
The selected site for the park is a desolated land near the Thailand cultural center. It is surrounded by other landmarks such as malls like Esplanade, The Street, and BigC. There are also several office buildings and condominiums, and it is easily accessible by MRT. The park would be a place where people can stop by.
Tumblr media
Exploded Axon - Park
In designing the park layout, the track is based on the treadmill running program with intervals, inclines, and resting points which correspond to the mileage feature of the game where player has to reach a certain distance to hatch eggs and gain prizes.
The computational landscapes uses the trees in the park to benefit wifi propagation that provide signals for player. The canopy of the trees help reflect and retain the wifi signals within the park and increase the connectivity.
Tumblr media
Exploded Axon- PokeTree
The central structure, PokeTree, is constructed from the technique ‘Arborsculpture’ which is include manipulation and shaping the tree growth to achieve the usable and structural form  The central structure is comprised of the stadium below where trainers could come and battle. The upper part consists of canopy platforms  that are connected by the living bridges done by the arborsculpture technique. The canopy platforms provide more spaces to do activities and also reachability to the fruits so that  nutrition doesn’t come only from dishes
The sakura in the game lure pokemons to appear where trainere is. Real life- attract people to the Conventional event of Flower watching. Foliage and flowers optimize the signal propagation and maximize nutrition. Therefore the space would be able to host for community day event of the game. People would gather to watch the full bloom and catch pokemon together.

The Sacramento horticulture world has lost one of its icons, UCCE Farm Advisor Chuck Ingels. His legacy lives on, in his books and in the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center at Fair Oaks Park, where he quietly helped shape the center into the horticultural wonder that it is. . Workshops and open garden days provide access to the fenced parts of the 1-acre center, but the Water Efficient Landscape (WEL) gardens are open daily to the public. . If you haven’t been, a wonderful way to pay tribute to Chuck would be to visit the garden. Bring a cool drink, a notepad for jotting down plant names, and just take time to breathe it all in. . . . #plantfoundry #plantfoundrynursery #theplantfoundry #urbannursery #urbangardening #shopsacramento #visitsacramento #oakpark #oakparksacramento #broadwaytriangledistrict #thebroadwaytriangle #northoakpark #historicoakpark #sacramentonursery #sacramentogardencenter #independentgardencenter #oakparkba #gardening #sacramentogardening #broadwaycorridor #broadwaycorridorsac #chuckingels #fairoakshorticulturecenter #ucce #arborsculpture . Growing a Hidden Architecture
Christian Kerrigan, 2006
This project explores the possibilities of a symbiotic relationship between two different systems of organization, technology and nature. The technology is designed to theoretically alter newly planted trees in the last remaining Yew forest - Kingley Vale. By controlling the manipulation of refined armatures, calibrating devices and designed corsets; the system is capable of controlling the growth of a ship inside the forest. The ship will grow over a period of two hundred years and will exist as a hidden architecture inside the trees.
