Your sister handed him—your nephew—over, mouthing a thank you before leaving out the front door—heading into the car with her husband. With a four day trip, they needed someone to watch over their son. It was an easy set up, so you agreed and here you are now—your nephew held in your hands. He’s just over four years old, and honestly is really easy to babysit.
You set him down on the floor, crouching to hold onto his hands—eyes set on his, “hey, I got a fun plan for us today. Wanna hear?”
He was immediately a fan of the idea, no shocker there. Eyes sparkling at the idea of seeing the animals there. For you, it would be a field day—enjoying seeing the animals and spending time with him before coming back for bed. Your sister gave you money to use however you wish. The first payment was the entry tickets.
He had a grin on his face from where he sat in the backseat, feet kicking as he asked all sorts of questions. Unfortunately you only knew the answer to like three of them. You helped him out, walking with him towards the entrance where the spell of fish hit the both of you hard. His little nose scrunched and you were lying if you said yours didn’t either.
“Damn this smell,” you whisper, reaching into your bag for the tickets you printed earlier.
“Damn!”
“No,” you point at him, “nonono, don’t say that—especially around your mom.”
He moved on the second he saw what was behind the two front doors. If it weren’t for your hand holding onto his, he would’ve had ran away for sure.
“Oh my—yes I know but we gotta scan these tickets first, or else we’re like trespassing or some shit.”
“Shit?”
You smiled to the lady who scanned your tickets, avoiding the pointed look she gave you. It was fine.
“Don’t say that,” you walk him through, goosebumps appearing from the chill in the air once you were inside. The smell got worse, twenty times worse—but it was gorgeous inside. Dark and blue, light sea sounds playing from the speakers above. Your nephew was having a field day, jumping and dragging you towards the first thing.
“Buddy, buddy—that’s a cut out. We have to go up the stairs, can you come climb these with me?”
He does, but instead he jumps up each one. The start to the exhibits were general fish, smaller circular exhibits. He was captured by the sights, eyes darting around at each fish swimming by. You sit down to his height, looking at the exhibit before looking to him, “what fish is your favorite?”
“Nemo.”
Ah yeah, there lied the orange and black fish—swimming towards the bottom. He quickly moved onto the next, little feet moving fast and helping him reach the jellyfish. He kept putting his nose on each glass, and each time you reached a finger out to push him back just a little.
About forty minutes in, and what you had hoped wouldn’t happen did happen. It’s bound to—with an attention span so short and even shorter legs that keep him hidden in the crowds. He was lost. One second he was standing beside you, the next he ran back and through a gathered crowd.
“Shit,” you curse, spinning to stand and run in the direction he went. You shoved a little too roughly at a few people, but it was worth it to you in your mind. The calm orchestra music over the speakers was the opposite of how you felt, heart racing in your chest.
Turns out he thought each orange and black fish was a Nemo fish—because there he stood at another exhibit, staring at a larger orange fish. As you got closer, you saw the other figure beside him. Her eyes were just as bright as his, full of passion. Her hair was tied back, half-in-half—leaving bangs to hang in her face.
“Nemo,” he exclaimed, looking back to her.
She points lower, “that’s Nemo, but that—he’s a Butterflyfish.”
“Butterfly.”
Her attention shifts to you as you get closer, the light reflecting off the room brings attention to the details on her face—and wow…
“He yours?”
“Yes,” you back up, “well not mine, he’s my sister’s but I’m babysitting him, so mine sorta yeah.”
She has a comedic expression after listening to your terrible story, “uh huh, okay.”
It goes quiet for a second, filled with awkward silence. You sigh, “thank you for, keeping him here.”
She stands, and it brings attention to the name tag on her shirt, “no worries.”
“Oh shit you work here?”
“Shit!”
Your nephew repeats and, “Ellie,” as her name tag reads looks to you with the same pointed look the ticket scanning employee did. You wave her off.
“Well I wonder where he learned that.”
You cross your arms, “his mother.”
He gives you out, turning to point at you. Ellie huffs, “wow turns out he’s not on your side, a true opp.”
You grab a hold of his hand, crouching down again and resting your knees against the small step set in front of the aquarium for the kids.
“How long have you worked here?”
“Four years.”
“Damn, that’s a long—“
“Damn!”
Ellie laughs, and holy hell it’s glorious. You point at your nephew again, “please I beg don’t say that around your mom. It was a slip of the tongue.”
“How long is she gone?”
You shrug, “like four days, we’ll see.”
She hums, reaching back into her pocket, “well I have to go lead this like tour. It was nice to meet you both—but I gtg.”
It definitely wasn’t a coincidence when you showed up to the same aquarium a day later. There was a special guest exhibit too, you had a reason. It totally explained the way your eyes darted around looking for someone.
Turns out Ellie was at the exhibit, a stingray one. She was standing inside, explaining something to these parents. She did end up noticing you, eyes lighting up similarly to how they did the other day. Felt good to know she was also looking forward to seeing you again sometime.
“Ellie,” you call, and right after your nephew did.
“Elsa!”
You pick him up, “he’s leaning. How’s your shift?”
“It’s going, I’m glad to work a different section. Why’re you back?”
For you..?
“For the new exhibit, plus the discount—he loves this place too, it’s just fun.”
She nods, fidgeting with her name tag on her shit. For some reason everything in you just begged to be honest with her. Seems like she had the same idea, lips moving to speak just as you did.
“No you go,” you sound, adjusting your nephew on your hip.
“I, wow fuck. This is unprofessional as shit, but can I get your number?”
You smile and it brightens her face again, a shy grin appearing on hers.
“Yes, I’d love to.”
Turns out you’d be visiting the aquarium a lot more from now on. Your nephew tagged along often, but there were days you went alone—sitting in the larger exhibits after hours, Ellie rambling about random information on the animals swimming around behind the giant glass.
Took some time, but eventually your pinkies would connect—sliding to touch one another. Her rambling would eventually slow and her breathing would even out when she looked to see how you were looking at her.
She exhales, “what?”
“Nothing,” you say behind a smile, voice quieter than a whisper, “just want to kiss you.”
Her eyes flicker down, chest rising quicker as her mind fills with nerves of what’s to come. You’re doing the same, eyes focused on her as you inch closer. The sting music playing in the back growing louder when your lips connect. When they connect again, her fingers moves to encase yours, thumb rubbing softly over the back of your hand.

I Take You Back
Eli Drake/LA Knight x OFC Rating: NC-17 Word Count: 1140 Warnings: Very little fluffy and a lotta angst. Tiny sex mention. Summary: Eli finally meets the love of his life, but is love enought to change a man? Inspired by Wolf Alice’s song, "Lipstick on the Glass" A/N: First time writing LA, hope you guys like it!
It has been a month now. A month since he last saw her, a month since she last sat her empty, lipstick stained wine glass on his counter, a month that it stood there, a month since she left.
Their paths crossed when Eli signed with NWA for his second run with the company. He had been following her work for some time now, always bringing it up in interviews and mentioning how, if he ever got a manager, he would want someone like Ellie Andrews.
Loud mouthed, trash talking just like him, and looks that could kill, Ellie was the perfect person to accompany any wrestler, man or woman, to the ring. Ricky Starks was all praises when it came to her, telling how she had been responsible for all the accolades he had in the indies and how she helped him get his NWA contract.
The day they finally met cemented how Eli felt about her.
It was on an early saturday night where Eli had just gotten his contract signed and stood backstage watching that week’s Powerrr taping. Watching Ellie do her thing in person was even more mesmerising, her mic skills left the world's most renowned panellist eating dirt and every wrestler wished they could control the crowd like her. The segment went on, where she praised Ricky’s ring work, telling everyone how he should be at the top of the company, which ended up earning him a match for the Worlds Heavyweight Championship belt. Eli knew he was in love the moment Ellie walked back into gorilla, the provocative, spell-bounding manager became Elisa, the sweet, shy girl that would stay in the building until the last light was turned off, making sure every worker was alright.
He asked her on a date not even five minutes after being introduced to her, to which she agreed instantly, shocking the both of them.
The date was everything they could ask for and a bit more. The night started underneath the waters of the Georgia Aquarium, the dim lights setting the romantic mood even if they were surrounded by the most dangerous sharks on the planet. Eli was the gentleman she never thought he could be, making sure she was having a great time, listening to her talk about her life, in and outside of the ring, and what she liked the most about him: he made her laugh. The larger than life personality he had in the ring hugged her tightly, and made Ellie feel like she was the most important woman in the world. Almost like Gomez and Morticia.
That first date ended two days later, with her rushing out from beneath the sheets of his hotel bedroom on the next monday morning, fashionably late for flight to Los Angeles.
Eli and Ellie professed their love for each other on that first weekend, after god knows how many rounds of love making. They never understood why and how they moved so fast, as Eli was known as the perfect bachelor and Ellie, known for rarely making herself approachable, the personification of opposites attract.
A night where two old, estranged soulmates finally found each other again.
The relationship was kept secret by the couple for the first three months, finally being put out to the world when Ricky caught them making out in their dressing room.
Ricky did what he had to do: sat Ellie down in her favourite donut shop and had a big brother talk with her, telling her that Eli was a man whore, and to be careful. If anything happened and that if she ever needed, he would be there for her, no matter what. He would constantly check in with her to make sure everything was okay.
The first half year of them as a couple was flooded by comments coming from their closest friends. Eli would always hear about what an amazing woman she is, how great it was that he was finally setting down and that he needed a serious person in his life. On her end, things were a little different. Ellie’s friends would tell her constantly to be careful with him, to not trust him and that they would always be there for her no matter what.
Ellie couldn’t lie, even if she knew her friends’ concerns had a valid reason to exist, and that they only wanted the best for her, their comments still hurt.
Little by little, they changed that. Eli proved what an incredible boyfriend he was, and how he only had eyes for her, to the point of proposing to her in the middle of the ring after the Christmas episode ended.
February 14th, 2021. Valentine’s day, one year and eight months into their relationship. Eli Drake goes away and LA Knight is born.
Ellie was still on her NWA run when Eli had to move to Florida. Everything was fine in the beginning, they would visit each other when they had some free time, FaceTime calls were done daily and their relationship followed as normally as it could.
She could feel Eli distancing himself with time. He would have excuses for her not to come visit, the daily calls now only happened twice a week and he was always evasive.
Fast cars and faster women, praise and recognition, and a shiny title belt, his teenager dreams were finally real.
Night after night, girls after girls, in hotel rooms, on his bed, on their bed.
That tragic night was no different, following the same routine he did almost every day, Eli went bar hopping, found a couple of girls that got easily attracted by his show off attitude and decided to bring them home. It is always a fun night for him, he follows through with his dirty promises, pleases and gets pleased, his stamina always taking him a long way. He always has an excuse to ship the girls off as soon as they finish, making sure to get them an Uber, locking the door behind him right after they leave. Eli went straight to the kitchen, in need of something to recharge him. One lone wine glass sat by the counter. He knew that red lipstick stain better than anyone, marked on his brain after having to visit every makeup store in three different malls during christmas time so she could buy that damned Ruby Woo. Next to the glass stood a piece of paper and the engagement ring he used to propose to Ellie just a few of months before. The handwriting looked nothing like hers normally did, the usually imposing calligraphy was shaky and tear stained.
“I should have listened to the signs, but true love spoke louder. Thank you for the memories.
– El”
A month since she left. A month he wishes he could go back in time.

11 Works.
Fishy by warschach ( E | 19,417 | 1/1 )
Izuku’s convinced his hot co-worker/neighbor, Katsuki, is a mermaid-or merman- you gotta consider genders even with mythical creatures- and plans to prove it.
(or this is kinda like the show ‘Monster Quest’, except Izuku actually finds said monster, falls in love, and have sexy times.)
Sugared Saltwater by halcyonwhispers ( T | 6,956+ | 2/? )
As a high class model for most of his life, Katsuki knows the ins and outs of any gig. He’s worked with Oscar-winning actor “All Might”, had his face plastered on magazine covers, and modeled Gucci and Prada for fashion week in Milan with that asshat Todoroki, so shooting a fucking perfume ad shouldn’t be hard. Not even with the overgrown fish in the tank.
///
that one au where katsuki’s a super model and risks his ass to save a merman (and vice versa)
Fish Eye by jellyfishsenpai ( T | 7,707 | 1/1 )
Izuku, a solitary merman, finds himself captured by aquarium staff and imprisoned in one of their laboratories; the man assigned to observe him, Katsuki, was on the boat when he was ensnared in the nets. As they grow to know each other more, Katsuki must decide where his duty lies, and Izuku must learn what his heart desires.

KatsuDeku Mermaid!AU (I haven’t seen very many of them around and at this point it’s just plain annoying)
Izuku Midoriya is Prince of the Sea, a young Merman who was next in line for the throne. He has everything a Merman could ask for, except for one thing; Freedom. He wants to see what the surface is like, but it’s against every law in all Seven Sea’s to breath air. But what Izuku thinks is a small trip turns into a live or die situation, and he finds himself placing all of his trust into a talented Biologist to get home.
Wish by Darkshadow ( T | 3,439 | 1/1 )
Eight year old Katsuki goes to the beach only to spot the most beautiful creature he has ever seen, can he convince the merman to stay by his side even through times of struggle

One Stormy Night by needsmoresleep ( T | 4,902+ | 2/? )
The first time Izuku ever saw a human was when he was eight years old.
[updated 7.19]
SeriesPart 3 of KatsuDeku First Meetings
shipwrecked on the red sea by flowercafe ( M | 1,632+ | 1/? )
Izuku stares into the eyes of a man that is distinctly not human. He recognizes things in spades.
Sharp, dagger-like fins protruding from elbows. Predatory red eyes accentuated by high, arrogant cheekbones, peppered with scales like rough sandpaper that would surely sting under soft palms. A long dorsal fin, curving from his back like a scimitar.
Izuku’s always been wary of sharks, but he never expected to come face to face with one like this.
(or: the au where izuku, a village fisherman, stumbles into the waters of one volatile shark mer.)
[Graphic Depictions of Violence]
The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by kewltie ( M | 1,834+ | 1/? )
Even the devil got nothing on Bakugou Katsuki, but it may have hand him something else. Something otherworldly, something scaly and with a tail.

The sea, it calls me by MochiUs ( M | 10,547+ | 2/? )
One was searching for what was lost. One was looking for what was rightfully his. They were creatures of the sea, and this was their tale. This was the story of how a selkie and a merman fell in love.

WoodyFest Day 2
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
The Virtual Woody Guthrie Festival continued Saturday July 18. Beginning at noon, the festival resumed with action packed line-up of panels and workshops streaming live and completely free via a plethora of streaming options. First up, there was a songwriting workshop hosted by Ellis Paul, and the invaluable education series went on to include: Appalachia: This Land is Home to Me hosted by Tom Breiding, Folk Collusion hosted by Tim Easton, Woody’s Country hosted by Rik Palieri, Collecting Woody Guthrie hosted by Barry Ollman, This Land is Your Land: A Celebration of 80 Years hosted by Deana McCloud, and lastly, fascinating panels discussing Native Music of Oklahoma presented by Oklahoma Film + Music Office, moderated by Sterlin Harjo & Dr. Hugh Foley |and included Zoom Panelists: Samantha Crain, Jula Harjo, Kylee Robison, Johnny Akeketa, Nokosee Fields, K-OSS, and Kalyn Fay and a second panel, Something to Say: Making Music That Matters presented by Oklahoma Humanities Moderated by Barry Ollman |and featuring panelists, Louie Pérez, Mary Gauthier, & Dr. Sunu Kodumthara. Strategically place between the last two informative panels, the winners of the 2020 Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest were announced with Randy Lewis Brown taking top honors with his song, “Desoto Parish Nights.” In second place was Sharon Goldman with “Woody & Marjorie” and in third, Daniel Neihoff and his song, “Appalachian Cry.” Congratulations to these songwriters as well as all that entered. I have no doubt we’ll hear more from all of them.
The panels continued on until 7pm when the music schedule took over, with this evening’s host, Jaimee Harris, who nearly immediately hit you right in the feels with her powerful Texas “folk-n-roll” take on the late Jimmy Lafave/Woody Guthrie composition, “Peace Town,” followed by her own “Catch it Now.” What a beautiful start to what was an action packed evening. Next up, Jared Tyler delivered his “A Little Tonight”from his 2017 release, “Dirt on Your Hands” followed by Paul Burch and his take on Guthrie’s “Pretty Boy Floyd”. At the 2019 fest, Betty Soo joined Michael Fracasso for his Crystal Theatre set, but this year, she delivered a simply stunning, stop you in your tracks version of “Deportee.” Betty Soo is currently performing with Rebecca Loebe and Grace Pettis as the trio, Nobody’s Girl, and their album self-titled release should definitely be on your radar. Detroit songwriter Chris Buhalis with “Don’t Kill My Baby and My Son” a song Guthrie wrote about Laura and L.D. Nelson, a black mother and son lynched from a bridge over the Canadian River near Okemah in 1911. Buhalis’ rendition was one that truly resonated.
Next, the legendary Graham Nash who played the festival in Okemah back in 2016 returned, virtually to the festival, contributing “Be Yourself”, the classic sing-a-long “Teach Your Children” and what I believe was a new song, “Stars & Stripes.”  It’s got to be tough to follow a real legend like Nash, but that’s exactly what Crys Matthews did, and did admirably, with a trio of socially charged songs, “Change Makers,” “We Must Be Free” and “Battle Hymn For an Army of Lovers”. Next up, was Massachusetts songwriter and autism activist, Seth Glier, first with, “Coronation,” then “Justice For All” and finally with a bunch of friends joining in via Zoom for “This Land is Your Land.” The multi-talented, Gregory Page followed with Woody’s “Danville Girl” which was just a great version. Oklahoma’s own, Samantha Crain was next with perfect timing, having just released her brilliant new album, “A Small Death.” Crain’s recorded performances here, “Time On Your Side” and “High Horse” were definitely a highlight for me. Tom Breiding followed with a pair of songs addressing the blue-collar union workers, “Now It’s Here” and “This Land Is Home To Me.” Next, and moving down south we had Houstonian Matt Harlan and his timely “Low Pressure” which really impressed me.
Bonnie Whitmore was next, and dropped some wisdom, reciting Woody’s quote, “It’s a folksinger’s job to comfort disturbed people and to disturb comfortable people,” before unleashing her 8-string bass for a brand new song, “Time To Shoot” from her forthcoming album, Last Will & Testament due September 1st. Live from his barn, we had Jacob Tovar delivering memorable takes on “I Felt Love” and “Three Good Reasons (For Leaving Tulsa)” providing a necessary honky-tonk atmosphere. The captivating Branjae returned to WoodyFest, this time with Josh Westbrook on guitar for a great pair of tunes, “Who Knows” and “Everybody Knows”.  Branjae and the band she co-fronts, Count Tutu were a highlight of last year’s festival, so it was great to see her back. If any musician has gotten the whole livestream thing down, it’s BJ Barham. The man’s a workhorse by nature, and has been sharing songs online ever since this damn pandemic coincided with the release of his amazing new American Aquarium album Lamentations. Barham is one of my favorite songwriters presently, and he certainly didn’t disappoint by delivering two of his recent bests. “Me + Mine” (Lamentations) is from the new album, and I personally think it might be the best song he’s written. Of course, his performance of “The World Is On Fire” from 2018’s Things Change was perfectly chosen as well.
Next was Emma’s Revolution featuring Pat Humphries and Sandy O., joined by Grammy Award winning fiddler and Klezmatics member, Lisa Gutkin performing, “Gonna Get Through This World” along with a Zoom screen collective of other musicians. Another Texas songwriter that’s won over the hearts of WoodyFest, is Jamie Lin Wilson, who provided a beautiful version of “Oklahoma Stars” written with Okemah’s own, Evan Felker. Hot on the heels of his album release, “Bloomin’”, the fabulous Josh Okeefe delivered two of the album’s best, “We’re All The Same” and “Son Of The Working Class”. Okeefe was one of the artists I was most looking forward to seeing and talking to at this years fest, but his performances here certainly hit the mark. Fresh from his “Folk Collusion” panel earlier in the day, Tim Easton returned to play two of his best, “Old New Straitsville Blues” and “Don’t Spectate, Participate”. Next, Brennan Leigh brought her smart country flavored storytelling with a great protest song, “Pipeline.” Following Leigh, we had songwriter and activist, Seth Bernard with a cut from his brand new album, “Let Love Light The Way” and “This is the American Earth”, before Raye Zaragoza presented “Fight Like A Girl” and a new song from her upcoming release Warrior.
WoodyFest just wouldn’t seem complete without John Fullbright, and though he’d been featured on the Tuesday night broadcast with a song recorded from 2019’s fest, tonight he was back with a new song, tentatively titled, “Sailors At Sea”, and the wonderful “Fat Man.” It’s got to be hard to follow Fullbright, but if anyone could do it, Glen Hansard certainly could. Now, I’m not sure if Hansard was going to be a performer had the 2020 WoodyFest actually gone forward in Okemah this year. But having been fortunate to see him perform live in 2019, I can only imagine how great of a performance the man would have delivered from the Pastures of Plenty stage. As it was, Hansard gave one of my favorite performances of the evening, with recorded songs from his home in Dublin. “Leave A Light,” a cover of Woody’s “Ramblin’,” and what seemed to be a brand new song capturing the turmoil in our streets. Hansard is one of my favorite music discoveries of the past ten years or so, and I highly recommend diving deep into his catalog of solo songs as well as with the Frames and The Swell Season. His new album, last years, The Wild Willing is nothing short of genius.
Taking us into the evenings home stretch, Mary Gauthier was joined by host, Jaimee Harris for stunning versions of “Make America Great Again” and the perfect story song, “Last of the Hobo Kings.”  Jason Mraz and his ukulele were up next for “Look For the Good,” before moving to the piano for “Make Love,” and lastly, joined by Joel Rafael for an intimate version of his song “Under Our Skin” from Rafael’s 2019 “Rose Avenue.” Finally, Jaimee Harris returned to her hosting duties to close up shop for the evening with a tale of the great Jimmy Lafave and a clip of Lafave and friends closing out the 2014 WoodyFest with “This Land Is Your Land.” Always a perfect choice.
WoodyFest continued its Virtual 2020 Festival for its final day on Sunday July 19th hosted by Terry “Buffalo” Ware, and featuring Carter Sampson, Butch Hancock, The Red Dirt Rangers and more. I’ll detail this final day and recap WoodyFest 2020 in a final piece later this week. Stay tuned!

There was a shift since the moment your lips connected. Going from complete strangers chatting with an air of awkwardness to obtaining her number to the finality of getting to know her more—it happened over time, but it felt so quick. You brought your nephew over still, smiling at the excitement he shows whenever Ellie came into view. He’s become to love her too, enjoying the positive connection he gets whenever she’s around. Usually if she’s around, he knows fish are following just behind as it’s usually a visit to her at her job. He loved listening to her talk, situated between her legs as she talks to him about the random shit she knew about the ocean.
You’ve asked her before while hanging out just between the two of you how she had such knowledge. First it started as a question if she was studying it in college or uni, but nevertheless it turned out to just be a passion of hers. That much was obvious.
You couldn’t lie about how beautiful it was to be in the building, remembering how it was a week ago. She had the cast from the water shining on her face, reflecting off her green eyes. She had been so close, brought even closer when you both leaned in to brush your lips against each other’s. You couldn’t stop looking at them since, eyes flickering to glance at them whenever she was rambling on.
Here you were again, standing while the two of them crouch in front of an exhibit you’ve maybe seen five times now—you’re sure Ellie’s seen it more—but it’s as if her and your nephew are seeing it for the first time. You hear her words but they go through one ear and out the other. She has a smile on her face, one that’s been plastered there for a while since she’s gotten to see you and her favorite little friend.
She has her arms wrapped around him, glancing between him and the exhibit as he babbles on about nonsense. Momentarily she looks to you feeling her heart race at the look—it looked eerily similar to how it did just some time ago before you both shared your moment.
She coughs, looking away, “he’s gonna be a marine biologist before you know it, man knows his shit.”
“Know shit.”
You smack Ellie on her shoulder and she stumbles from the impact, “hey!”
“Don’t say that, we’ve been doing so good. You know he has his focus on those few words.”
She rolled her eyes before flinching back with a laugh when she noticed you moving to smack her again. When he started to squirm and run from Ellie’s grip, you knew it was time to move on.
“This is where I say goodbye again,” you tug your nephew close so you could scoop him up, “say goodbye to Ellie, buds.”
She says her goodbyes to him before she turns to do the same with you, “I’ll see you later?”
You hum, leaning in to kiss her on the jaw, “I’ll see you later.”
Your nephew waves goodbye to her as you walk him towards his favorite exhibit, not before looking back to enjoy her taken aback expression. You can’t stifle the feeling that continues to flow within you after, a smile and good mood permanently restored within you.
After driving him back home, handing him off to your sister while he’s deep in sleep—you head back to your apartment momentarily. Five more hours and the aquarium would be closing, the time when she texted and told you to come visit.
You’ve visited her within after hours, but not in this way. Last time had been an accident, hanging out with her as the crowds disappeared and it left the two of you. She had been caught up ranting as usual, and neither of you wanted to leave. Time had flown by, your moment eventually cut short when one of her employees had walked in.
The drive back to the similar building was darker, barely a sliver of light over the horizon as you parked your car and climbed out. There the parking lot only had three cars, one of them you recognize to be hers. She mentioned there being an officer on duty, but the other car—? You brush it off as being one of her managers and shut your car door, locking it.
The door was locked, but opened after you imputed Ellie’s clock in number. Again here came the smell of fish, succeeding and surrounding even the back door that leads to the offices. It was a hallway, one empty and echoed as you walked through. She gave you a little written instructions in one of her texts, highlighting where to go.
One of the rooms ahead, a door with many stickers on it laced with you assume to be inside jokes—its light was turned on. Laughter came from the room and so did hushed and aggressive whispers. It wasn’t the room Ellie mentioned in her text to you, but she stood in there—with another.
They seemed to be about your age, and also very friendly with Ellie. You snap out of it once you’ve realized all you can remember is watching the two of them interact. With a sigh and a heavier heart you knock before letting yourself into the room. Ellie’s expression upon realizing it was you helped made you feel a bit better, but one glance to the girl beside her had you spiraling almost all over again.
It was so incredibly stupid you felt like a school girl especially at your grown age. You brush it off again and introduce yourself.
“Yeah, I’m Be.”
“She’s been working with me since I’ve started here, we actually had the same interview day.”
“Oh, how nice.”
She didn’t say much and that stung, further making you feel as if you’re interrupting their relationship instead of yours and Ellie’s. You brush it off again.
“What brought you to work here?”
She crosses her arms, “I’m studying biology at my college. Are you in college?”
Your answer rewarded you with a hum, one that felt judgmental. She turned towards Ellie again, “could you help me finish this really quick?”
She brings her back towards where they were when you had walked in, pointing Ellie’s attention back to the paperwork. While they did that, you walked around the room. There was a picture on the wall showing an official photo of the staff when the aquarium had first opened. Ellie was standing near the front, shorter and younger than how she is now. Beside her, was the other woman in the room.
Your heart skipped but you swallowed the nerves and moved around, looking at everything else the overstimulating room had to offer. Every wall and desk was covered with something. The minutes passing by and the glances towards them filled you with lead.
“Hey,” Ellie calls, “ready? I got this tour set and don’t worry it’s been approved by my boss he’s chill.”
She walks you out the office door and you feel the woman’s piercing stare on your back as she does. You wrap your arms around yourself walking beside her, feeling smaller.
“Cold?”
Before you could respond she’s shrugging the sweatshirt she had on over her work clothes off, passing it to you. You didn’t have much else to do but put it on.
“There’s a specific area where our medics work, it’s really cool.”
“Can’t wait to see,” you say, but the enthusiasm falls flat.
She brings you just further down towards the back room, opening it with a set of keys hooked to her pants. The lights flicker on, reveling in light a room of organized chaos. There were containers set on the counters, different creatures inside.
“The guys that need the most attention are brought here,” she explains, guiding you towards a tank with fish inside, “like these guys are sick.”
You hum, pushing your hands into the pockets of her sweatshirt. For someone that works in such a fish-smelling environment, her sweatshirt smelled like anything else—it smelt like her.
Nothing was able to ease the pressure building in your chest. Not time and not convincing yourself. You sit beside her now on a stool, listening but you can’t bring yourself to anymore.
“Ellie,” you start, cutting her off, “what was that earlier?”
“Uh, with Be? I was helping her with her project, why?”
You continue to stare at the fish moving in the small tank, relating to how trapped they feel. It’s not been that long into your relationship, hell you had your first kiss last week. The silence that passes by brings a frown to Ellie’s face.
“It was nothing. What? Do you think we’re like fucking or something?”
“What?”
“Don’t know—you tell me, your question sounds as if you’re asking if we’re together.”
You feel at a loss for words, an ugly string of jealous thoughts filling your mind—making you unable to form a mature and meaningful question, so instead you stay silent.
“Seriously,” she sighs, standing from her chair.
“Ellie,” you call, “I didn’t—“
“Didn’t? Didn’t what? I don’t appreciate being labeled a cheater.”
“It’s not that.”
“Then what is it?”
“It’s me,” you tap your finger on the counter, “you seem so close to her, known her for longer, I mean she’s a lot smarter than me it seems—knows a lot about what you’re passionate for.”
You trail off, annoyed at how tight your chest feels. She stands across from you, back leaned against the counter. Of course she notices the slightest change. Having only seeing you happy, it was strange seeing this side, but everything she was noticing in you—she felt it herself.
“I’m sorry I don’t know what I’m worked up about. It’s not you. It’s me, I just want to be able to be your ideal type—and with her around I feel like a second option.”
Ellie blinks, hurting all the more when she sees your shaky breaths. She crosses back to you, frustration already left her by the time her body is pressed beside yours.
“Don’t apologize,” she brushes her hand on you, pulling you to her. You let her, falling into her hold wholeheartedly—and you especially fall into the way she brings her lips onto yours. Her cold hand on your cheek, angling your face. You pull her tighter, fingers weaving in her hair.
The sound of the AC blowing and slight waves from the tanks were the noise behind your kissing, reminding you of where you were located. You were at a public aquarium, not back at either of yours apartments. And yet, neither of you pulled back just yet. Her other hand slipped under her sweatshirt that laid on you, causing you to shiver from the cold.
“Ellie,” you whisper, and it brings her out of her focus.
She swallows, moving back only slightly so your foreheads touched but your lips were apart.
“I—we can’t. This is my job.”
“Yeah,” you breathe, moving back, “yeah, right—what were you saying earlier about this room?”
She continues with her speech, but this time she’s always having some part of her touch you. Whether it be her thigh, her fingers, her hip—she had something brushing, holding, weaving around you. Her voice was quieter, tone softer and sweeter sounding.
She showed you through the areas you know, and even the areas you didn’t before. Before—quite unconsciously—the aquarium was her focus, but now she was locked on you, getting distracted often.
It was the large room, the one with the glass almost as wide as a football field where you both fell apart again. You stood beside her, or her beside you seeing as she couldn’t hear her hands off you. She just fell apart then, cursing under her breath as she tugged you so close your bodies melted to one as she seared you with a kiss.
You agree to it eagerly, arms crossed around her shoulders with her hands on your waist. The second her kisses trailed down your jaw, your neck—your mind shut off and you knew she was going to fall with you. Each move, her eyes locked go yours—she had an air of caution, checking in often to make sure you were safe and comfortable moving forward.
You had landed with your back against the floor, Ellie straddling you—shrugging her work shirt over her head. You felt your heart beat elevate, core heating at the sight. The shirt landed beside you as she leaned over you—fingers sliding up your core. Each time she reached for an article of clothing, she was checking in with you.
The last was removed, leaving you bare beneath her while she still had ber pants and sports bra on her. You collided with her, hooking a leg around her to spin the two of you. With a smile into her neck, you grind your hips onto her thigh. She breathed deep in response, exhaling while her hands rushed to grip onto your hips.
You bit back a moan when she did the same to you, hiking her thigh up to meet you halfway. She flipped you again, kissed trailing lower until she was face to face with you. Your bodies shivered, a hand shooting to grip her hair tight as she moved close.
One kiss and you were singsonging into the still air. She slid her lips up, moving to lick over your clit—feeling proud at how she had you feeling.
“ElsEls—!”
She pressed her tongue there, rubbing it so she could get you ready. Her finger slipped through then, pushing in and finding the spot that caused you to cry out.
“Shit please, yes!”
Ellie shushes you, sliding another in after, “inside voices, I got you.”
You were a mess, a hand strewn over your mouth to muffle your sounds as she worked you to the edge. Three of her fingers pushing into you, tongue stimulating your clit. You were writhing, huffing hot air and digging your nails into her scalp.
“Oh fuck—“ you tilt your head back, eyes closing at the feeling that over came you. Your orgasm crashing over you. Ellie huffs, moving atop of you and kissing you breathlessly as you come down from your high. With a tingling igniting throughout your body, thrumming loudly and excitedly, you sat up to push her back.
“Please can I-?”
You ask, tugging at her waistband to hint at what you’re asking for. She nods, “yeah—shit, yes. Go for it.”
You tug them down, grinning at her as you preform similar actions to what she had just did to you. She moaned, head pushed back against the carpet—stomach contracting. Her tattoo’s arm was holding onto your hair, holding you there.
“Shit just like that, don’t stop.”
You wouldn’t dream of doing so. From now until forever you were sure you’d have this image plastered in your mind forever. How she looked, how she sounded, how she tasted. You wanted more, even after she came crashing down from her own high. She used her hand on your hair to jerk you into a kiss, one that transformed into another make out session. Warm bodies on each other, sliding—her thigh between your legs as you circle them.
“Shit,” Ellie curses, “it’s 11:47, we have to leave in 13.”
You laugh, pecking her lips, “is that enough time to finish your tour?”
“Yeah, if we get dressed now,” she flings your clothes at you with a playful expression, “so get dressed.”
You do, shimming your pants back on and watching her do the same. You help her off her floor, “are we insane for what we just did?”
“Yeah probably,” she says, kissing your swollen lips one more time, “but it’s what I love most about us.”

wc ✎ 1.3k • MASTERLIST • next part
