ALRIGHT. This is finally happening!!! I told everyone it would eventually :3
SO here's the start!!! This comic follows, mainly, these two sisters as they travel to a new city, away from their farming hometown, in search of more opportunities. This is a comic that I've held pretty dear to me, and wanted to make for a couple years now, so I'm really happy I'm finally managing to get it off the ground!
As a disclaimer, the first few pages might be kinda all over the place art wise, I was, and still am, trying to figure out the best artstyle for me personally, so I do hope y'all don't mind!
Above all else, though, I hope anyone who happens to come across this story enjoys it! I'll be updating this weekly, every Sunday at 2 PM, until further notice, you can expect a new page! I am posting it on a Thursday because I posted it then on Comicfury, and have spent the last few days trying to figure out sideblog settings here NGDKLSNGKLDSNGKLDS. I should be all good though!
If you like this, please consider giving me a sub and rating on comicfury, as that's the other website I'll mainly be crossposting on!
Comic Fury Link Here!
Cheers, and have a wonderful day everyone!

Coffee art is so underrated...
By Azalea Azuar / Leaazpens
Riuh is just so freakin happening.
I mean, I've gone to the first one in Bangsar, where they held it in Art Printing Works (APW) an old printing factory.
It was next to the Balai Berita building (my future office, looks like it) at Jalan Riong.
Seriously, the place is crowded with cool youngsters and families.
Although I've never heard of Riuh before, my stepmom was the one who introduced it to me because she brought me to this place.
Yeah I don't know about it because I'm a totally outdated introvert.
But serious shit, Riuh just feeds the inner artist in me.
It's a monthly creative bazaar platform with different pop-up stores, showcases, workshops and live performances.
All around I see vendors selling cool stuff like bath bombs, unique accessories and heck, there's even Tony Eusoff selling hotdogs!
But what caught my eye was a group of people sitting down in the middle of a hall.
As I walked closer, I could see the table is messy with art tools and coffee powder.
The group of people were so immersed in creating sepia-toned paintings but it wasn’t watercolour, acrylic or oil….rather coffee itself!
I was surprised and fascinated how such a simple ingredient can create remarkable works of art. So, I decided to go for the coffee painting workshop by KL Sketch Nation.
The members were friendly and approachable.
One of them, Jerome, taught me coffee painting.
So, I decided to paint Emperor Palpatine since he is my favourite Star Wars character (I don't recommend beginners painting portraits first as it might be challenging and I wasn't happy with the effect anyway).
It's been ages since I've painted. The last time I've done it was for a university project.
I was 18 at the the time and we had to use a canvas to present our trip to Melaka for our Creative Studies module.
So, we had to paint our canvas and I hated the module so much that I don't want to paint anymore.
Thank you, I'll just stick to pencils and pens.
It was not until I joined KL Sketch Nation in 2019 that my love for painting return.
I was volunteering for a coffee painting booth at an event in Shah Alam.
So, I don't know what to do...I haven't painted in a long time but the self-taught artist in me taught me not to panic.
I simply took the pencil and started drawing a random anime OC.
After I'm done with the waterproof inks, I started painting on it.
Ok, at first it sucked according my standards.
But I soon understood how painting works since my self-taught mechanism is based on trial and error.
Next, I decided to draw Renji Abarai from Bleach and the results....weren't that bad at all.
I believed that like any other skill requires practice in order for you to be better.
Almost every week I would come out with a painting and as time goes by, there have been room for improvement.
After a while I became more confident and bolder with my coffee painting skills that I started to put it with other uses, such as painting a comic series entirely out of coffee.
And so the Sheev and Rey series is born out of the idea after watching Star Wars Episode XI: The Rise of Skywalker where...*SPOILER ALERT*......
what if Palpatine was a nicer grandfather and he raised Rey from the beginning?
.......*SPOILER ENDS*.......
I was happy that a lot of people liked the comics so I guess I’m gonna continue making them.
The other reason why I paint Sheev and Rey only using coffee is because coffee art is not that popular.
Earlier this year, around the same time when the Covid-19 virus entered Malaysian borders, I went on a camping trip with my family during the Chinese New Year holidays.
I was painting at one of the outdoor tables, used for eating and there were a few passers-by who saw me painting.
When they asked me what I was painting with, I replied “coffee”. Then they were surprised that you can use coffee to paint.
I’m the type who does not like painting in the open because I don't like it when I’m being watched drawing. It’s also because they would want me to draw a picture of them, which happened during that camping trip.
But if this is a way to get more people exposed to coffee painting then I’m all up for it.
I’m still happy to show people my coffee art and they are happy with the smell.
I guess that’s the joy of painting using coffee, and I assure you it’s not that hard. In fact, it’s something beginners should start off with before venturing into using colours...just to understand the basics of painting.
I’ll explain more about the technical side of coffee painting in another article….

Funny 2:30 am OC time
God so there are so many stories I want to write and do-
like there is my main webcomic (1216 Beelzebub Lane) that I have been writing for 5 or so years, but now with my better understanding of comics and stuff I completely scrapped and need to start from scratch with the worldbuilding but am bad at knowing where to start so I’m just in a perpetual hell of creative paralysis.
And then there’s the recent story that I’ve been doing with Arthur. There is no name for it yet, but I’ve been calling it APW: Off the Clock. Though the name isn’t really sticking and I like Out of Time but that’s a name that’s very overused. Idk I just kind of got really fixated on Arthur and they have a whole ass world going for em now! They’ve honestly been my only source of seratonin lately. Hhngh ;;
A couple of other shorter stories I have in mind are old stories recycled from my days in OCTs (Original Character Tournaments) I was in about 4 out of the 5 I auditioned for, and had a pretty good run for the 3-4 years I was in them.
One is called “Neverwood” and it’s a small oneshot that features two characters from my future webcomic and is a prequel spinoff!
The other is about a Private investigator and his partner, of whom he meets in a dream and has to find out why people are disappearing/going into comas. (No name for this one either yet.)
(oh this is old art)
One is a rewrite about a chef who dreams of becoming a master chef and is willing to travel to far off lands to follow her dreams! (No name for this one yet.)
Then there’s one I want to write based off my Devil’s Bargain campaign that I might turn into a mini horror anthology(?) called “Pendragon’s Paranormal Pandect” and focuses also on Arthur! But follows the paranormal happenings in a town called Magician’s Ridge, New Jersey.
Anyways I got a lot of ideas banging around in this head of mine and for the longest time couldn’t pull the cork until now! Won’t say too much on each for now so shhhhh ;)

Hello! I'm that anon that sent those asks to allthecanadianpolitics. I saw your response & I do have a few questions: How cold do the winters in Canada get? I was also wondering if you know of any good colleges for comic artists? I'm a cartoonist & there was one college I was looking into but I'd like to see what you think. ;v;
Ayyy! :D
So my other Ontario followers, feel free to chime in with your experiences too! I can only give my side of it, and I know it will help hearing from artists in other schools too. Buckle up cause this is gonna get long.
Winter Sucks
Firstly, the winters. During the coldest times we usually average around -15c to - 25c, not counting the wind. It’s dipped to near -30c too and…in general it kind of sucks.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that our winters last long. It’s not wild to see snow in October sometimes….I’d say that we start getting into our winter (below freezing) at the end of October till about April? So expect a good 6 months of cold weather.
It’s been snowing less here over the years, but I’d still recommend a decent pair of boots. Most importantly, a good coat and gloves. The wind is what’s really nasty.
Art Colleges
Okay, college. If you’re looking to go into the arts, definitely go this route instead of going to a standard university and taking an art degree there. Universities haven’t made a name for themselves in the arts, and a great college will have a better reputation and will ultimately look better on a resume (and it will teach you more!)
I’ve been to both, and I am enjoying my college time vastly more than when I did my degree.Mostly in part that the instructors are wayyyy more knowledgeable, and still work in the industry instead of just teaching! Everything is much more updated and relevant, and it’s less likely you’ll get the scenario of “teacher who used to work in the industry 20-30 years ago”.
Onto School Specifics
I would recommend steering clear of OCAD. The quality has declined heavily over the years, and what they teach isn’t really relevant to the industry anymore, so I hear.
VanArts has a great reputation, but it’s all the way in Vancouver so…i’ll put that aside if you’re just looking into Ontario schools.
The big ones in Ontario: Sheridan, Seneca, Max the Mutt
These schools will overlap heavily with having a great animation program…because they tend to also have great illustration and sequential arts (comic arts) programs too! A lot of times the teachers will teach across multiple programs and multiple schools, and they usually rotate around these three!
Sheridan
Out of the big three, Sheridan is the one that has the longest standing program and reputations for it. They’re in the top 10 of the world for animation, and by graduating from here you really have a name that will back you up. They’re really well known for illustration as well, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a program specific to sequential arts! They like to train students for more director/higher up positions, so keep in mind that it may be difficult to find a job right after you graduate.
Pros
Has a worldwide reputation, looks great on resumes.
Long standing programs, and some of them have an internship requirement built it.
There’s a great chance you’ll have a solid portfolio ready for after you graduate and start job hunting.
Cons
The college is looking to become a university within the next few years, and there’s no doubt that teachers and programs will be affected with this change.
Very competitive and tough to get into. The portfolio requirements to apply are changing and some of it looks a little weird…
Class sizes might be very large, and there may not be enough materials/space/teacher feedback for everyone.
From the perspective of other art schools (not from the general public), Sheridan can have a sort of elitist culture, and a vibe of “I only want to help myself”.
Seneca
Seneca, another top 10 in the world for animation. They’re making their name big with that and improving fast! This is where I study animation, so my (biased) recommendation is always to look into this school too. Most of the professors here graduated from Sheridan in the past, and they all still work in the industry! This school’s focus is more on getting you a job after you graduate, so they want to easily slot us into the industry!
Pros
Very small program size, and thus class sizes. You have lots of 1 on 1 time with the professors.
Out of all three, Seneca has the best hiring rate. You’re more likely to get a job fast coming out of this school.
In animation especially, has an atmosphere built on helping each other and sharing knowledge. If you only look out for yourself, you won’t get far here.
Cons
Doesn’t have a dedicated sequential arts program yet…it’s in the works!
Very competitive and tough to get into.
There’s only really two programs that Seneca is well known for. The illustration program is not as strong here and needs to be fixed up, so I hear.
The campus that most likely will have the sequential arts program is Seneca @ York, which is a special building we have located on York University campus. Living close around this area can be pretty dangerous. Keep in mind that we are also a bit affected by York University’s stuff, aka when they go on strike. (They’re on strike as of today, so this is the second strike I have had to deal with during my second year…..)
Max the Mutt
This one is kind of an oddball new player into the mix. They transformed themselves around over the course of 6-8 years, and I’m excited to see how they keep improving. They have an interesting variety of programs, with one even being specific to concept art! No doubt they should have something up your alley that’s worth looking into.
Pros
Improved greatly over the course of a few years and is proving to become a strong contender, with great graduates.
Solid professors who have gone to Sheridan/Seneca, and are close knit in the industry.
Has the strongest ties with APW (Animation Portfolio Workshop), which can help greatly with getting into any of the schools. The fundamentals they teach in APW translate to many programs.
Cons
Tuition here is usually more expensive than the other two.
The newest of the big schools, so their reputation is still being formed. Apparently it may have been a bit rocky at the start, but they found their footing.
Just by the name alone, it can look weird on a resume. Be prepared to explain if the company has never heard of it.
Not sure if this has changed recently, but they used to accept almost anyone while they were still growing. This can make for some large skill gaps between students. Max the Mutt won’t be afraid to hold people back a year if they need to improve in a specific area!
Pheww this is long, but I hope that helped answer some stuff? If there’s a specific school you want to know about, or get more info, i’m always happy to help!A note again that this info is from what I gathered with my own experiences, hearing stories, researching when I was looking to apply, etc.
I’d love to hear experiences from other people across schools! Please feel free to chime in!

WOAH!!! It has been... quite a hiatus. Honestly, I wish I could explain it in a better way, but my life has just. Kinda sucked for the last month lol. A University I attended forever ago didn't process my withdrawal application correctly and wants to charge me ~7k dollars, so I'm trying to get that sorted, I ened to pay my current university as well, then I got really sick for the last ~week or so, and dealing with normal uni woes and stresses. My comic has kinda taken a bit of a backburner position, but I'm starting to work on it again, so I hope I'll be able to finish chapter 1 soon!!! Regardless, I hope everyone likes it!
If anyone wants to help me out, I'm going to be linking my Patreon and Ko-Fi as well. I know it's a big ask, but any help I could receive would be a massive help for right now, honestly. I'll be posting comic sketches as I make them on there as well, so stay tuned!
(Both of these need to be updated as well, so do keep that in mind as you look through!)

Soooo I forgot to upload last week I'm realizing. Oops! In other news, I'm probably going to move my release schedule to biweekly until the end of chapter 1. I simply feel too rushed to try (and usually not quite accomplish,) and meet the weekly deadline. As such, I want to give myself two weeks, since I'm making the pages one by one at this point, and I'd like to have more time to make sure they're a quality I'm happy with. Thank you so much to everyone who's stuck around and continues to read my pet project, I'm so happy y'all enjoy it enough to keep checking it out!
Also, I decided I wanted to work with different dimensions to make the linework seem smoother with the brushes I'm using. I think it works well, but part of the reason I want to give myself more time between pages is so I can experiment with my linework and art a bit more :D. I'm going to change a lot about my release schedule for Chapter 2, but I really want to have more time to practice and figure out what I like and what I don't in these last few pages of Chapter 1.
Next Page Expected: 9/15/2024.
