name: Hala
birthday: June 24
zodiac sign: cancer ♋
hobbies: football lol; but also: cultures, reading, music, movies
favourite colours: red, orange, green
favourite books: The grapes of wrath by John Steinbeck without a doubt. A lot of who I am and what I believe in is because of it.
last song you listened to: Black Sheep Boy by Tim Hardin. idk I'm going through my baba's old music tapes these days. He likes old american songwriters from the 60s and when he was a kid he would get badly recorded unofficial records in local markets in Morocco. He'd trade them for cheese lool. He was very poor but loved music.
last film you watched: Antigone. It's about an Algerian family who migrates to Canada. I recommend, so beautiful.
something that helps people: I wish I could answer this properly... But I think indifference is the worst we can offer to humankind these days. I think it's a time we have to stick together because the world is collapsing in so many ways. Not being indifferent to other people's struggle, let them know we care.
meaning behind url: it's actually a song by an Algerian band called Babylone. They are they one who did the more famous song Zina (the soundtrack of my -and like everyone's - maghrebi early teenage dramatic years u know. also if you don't know about hakim and appie (Nouri <3) singing it pls this video is still my life. might be 2023 for u, it's still 2017 for me). Yeah anyway my nickname is another song from them. My mama loved it a lot so it stays with me at all times.

book review || So We Meet Again by Suzanne Park
24 hour readathon -- So We Meet Again, Seafire, Brothersong
~Thanks to Netgalley for providing a digital ARC of So We Meet Again in exchange for an honest review. ~
After reading Park's last romance, which had all the girl power and empowering women feels, but not much romance, I was hoping she'd learned and lean more on the romance this time around. While she did do that! I was still disappointed in the results, however.
Although the title, summary, and marketing around this book calls it romance, this is more 50/50 with a contemporary about women in the entrepreneurial world. That's a fine space to be in, I'm all for shattering the glass ceiling, but don't promise me one thing and then not deliver it.
Not to be completely negative, I do enjoy Park's writing. This story did have me chuckling quite a bit. I loved the descriptions of food and watching Jessie create her own business (although, as someone with a business degree, I think it was a bit unrealistic, but that's a me problem). Watching Jessie stick it to her old company for underestimating her? Fantastic. Seeing her relationship with her mom improve was also so precious. I loved seeing the shift in Jessie's perception of her mom as the story went on. Also, the main romantic trope was enemies to lovers and we all know I love that.
While the enemies to friends shift was pretty smooth, the switch to lovers felt much more abrupt and caught me off guard. There was fantastic sexual tension between the two leads, but it was never followed through with, which annoyed me to no end. Every time it seemed like we were heading in that direction, something would interrupt them.
The drama that took place between the two halfway through the book actually made sense, even if it was based on miscommunication, so I couldn't be too angry about that. Even once they come back together though, we were still left hanging, as there's only a fade to black scene. (I'm learning that I really don't like clean romance books, apparently)
The synopsis of this book, also! It literally details everything that happens! Maybe don't do that moving forward, because it made for a very predictable story!
In the end, my issue with this book was the same as Park's first Adult Romance, which is it shouldn't be marketed as a romance because it's totally misleading to what the main story is about. The main focus of this book isn't Jessie finding love, it's in her creating a career she enjoys and improving herself.

New to the story?  Read from the beginning.  PART 1 is here
///////////////////////
“Oi’ve nae talked wit’ ‘im about t’ose times.  Master Selked told m’ some, an’ the log provided t’e rest.  Oi ‘ad little t’ do for over a Wotan as Oi wa’ recuperating.  Oi had t’ practice readin’ yer writin’, so Oi read t’e log an’ ot’er books t’at ‘e’d collected.”
Kurin plied her chopsticks in silence for a bit, digesting this history behind things that had always been an unquestioned part of her life. Skye cocked her head and looked at Kurin’s platter questioningly. Kurin held out some roast on her chopsticks and Skye took it neatly.
Kurin looked across the table at Tanlin.  “Barad collects books?” she asked incredulously.
“Aye, ‘e reads bot’ Common an’ Arrakan an’ can struggle t’rough Barant.  ‘E ‘as books in all t’ree languages.  Nine o’ t’em are about t’e Boren Current Wars.”  She paused thoughtfully, “Actually, ten, i’ ye count Sula’s little manual.”
Kurin interrupted in surprise, “Sula wrote a book?  She never said anything about it.  Come to think, Darkistry mentioned it, too.”
Seriously, Tanlin replied, “Oi know wye Sula stayed quiet about ‘t.  Oi’ve read ‘t.  Darkistry’s probably t’e only one o’ us ‘oo actually understands it.  Oi’d recommend t’at ye nae read ‘t, t’ough Oi willnae stop ye.”  She paused and looked sympathetically at Kurin.  “T’will show ye a side o’ Sula t’at ye willnae care for.  Sula’s killed more people an’ sunk more ships t’an any ot’er person on Sea.  ‘Er book’s a manual for t’e destruction o’ ships an’ fleets.
“Wit’out t’e knowledge in t’at book, we’d probably ‘ave sunk t’e Fauline.  Wen Barad an’ Oi were in danger, t’e crew attacked wit’out ‘esitation.  None o’ t’em wa’ ‘appy about ‘t but t’ey did ‘t anyway.”
Kurin realized that what she was hearing was not a boast.  She already knew about her friend Sula’s war record — and how Sula felt about it. She digested the knowledge in silence.
The quiet stretched out into tension.  At the last, Tanlin asked, “Wen’re ye goin’ t’ actually start reading?  So far, ye’ve just leafed t’rough about eight Wohan’s wort’ o’ Log.”
Relieved to have something neutral to talk about, Kurin replied, “I have been reading, a bit slower than usual, actually.  I didn’t want to miss anything.  Barad has a fairly neat hand that’s usually easy to read.
“How come he gets so little from each indenture sale?  Less than half, on average.”
Tanlin smiled in relief.  “Oi’m glad t’at ye asked t’e quest’n in t’at way.  A person ‘oo brokers indenture sales is entitled t’ nae more t’an ‘is legally defined costs plus ten percent o’ t’e balance o’ t’e sale.
“Indenture’s ‘ow t’e Arrakan fleet’s education system works.  I’ Oi wonted t’ learn, say, boat buildin’, Oi’d sell ye m’ indenture. Basically, ye’d pay m’ in advance for t’e term o’ t’e indenture.  Oi’d work for ye an’ ye’d teach m’ t’ make boats.  Tis a twa way contract.  T’e more I know goin’ in, t’e more m’ indenture’s wort’ t’ ye.  Oi might sell m’ indenture at auction or Oi might approach a particular person or ship.”
“T’e Grandalor produced indentures ‘oo could all read, write an’ figure plus ‘avin’ a good foundation in a useful skill.  T’e Arrakan fleet ships bid ‘igh prices for Grandalor indentures because t’ey were o’ t’e ‘ighest quality,” Tanlin finished proudly.
“So. . .the indenture is just a prepaid labor and education contract?” Kurin asked dubiously.
“Aye. Oi sold m’ ane indenture six times t’ earn m’ navigation an’ command skills.  Oi earned enow from t’ose sales t’ buy a share in t’e Princamorn, t’e ship t’at Oi wa’ born on.  Oi wa’ in a position t’ bid for a ca’taincy wen ane came open.  I remember evert’in’ o’ t’e Arrakan fleet but t’e people.
“M’ diary wa’ among documents t’at were salvaged from t’e wreck. Barad saved ‘t for m’ an’ Oi’ve read ‘t over an’ over but ‘t only told m’ some names.  T’ey’re only words in a book. M’ people’re still missing.”  Tanlin looked a little downcast as she added, “Mecat says t’at t’ey’re gone forever.”
Kurin finished eating and went back to reading the log.  Skye left the cabin the same way that she had come, pausing to close the port behind her.  Before the sun had reached its nadir, Kurin had nearly finished the just over twenty-five Gatherings of Barad’s Captaincy. Using a candle lantern to add to the ghostly light of the low sun, she finished the log and began the Purser’s accounts.
What Kurin learned there amazed her.  The Grandalor was a wealthy ship.  A very wealthy ship indeed.  Most of her wealth was held in accounts in the Arrakan fleet with large amounts on deposit in the Pallant and Daroff fleets.  Less than a third of her wealth was aboard or on deposit with the Naral fleet.
Kurin fell asleep to the quiet, uncanny whistling song of a faraway Orca that had never stopped singing, all day.
Kurin awoke suddenly in the middle of the third Night Watch.  The low arctic sun was coming fairly brightly through the port.  She had fallen asleep while reading and was surrounded by an untidy nest of log books, accounts, a few diaries and other records.
It took a moment to pin down what had awakened her.  The Orca song had become loud and clear.  It was punctuated by the shushing splash of the whale breaching and rolling and the occasional splashing report of the multi-ton creature leaping and falling back to the sea. Kurin’s heart leaped in fear for those in the sickbay.
Kurin could see the quiet form of Captain Tanlin sleeping slumped in a stuffed chair.  She felt a slight twinge of guilt at having fallen asleep in the Captain’s bunk as she slid silently out of bed.  She stumbled over the sleeping form of Arnat, curled up on the floor beside the bunk.  The commotion brought Tanlin to instant alertness. Arnat stretched.
“What’s the matter, Kurin?” he yawned.
“I hope, nothing.  Perhaps much.  The Orca is singing close by.”
“Mother!” Arnat called, heading immediately for the cabin door.
Tanlin was through it before he could get there.  Kurin followed him through the passageways of the Grandalor to the sickbay as swiftly as she could.
Doctor Corin looked up from where he was working on Lenai.  “I was about to send for you, Captain, and Arnat, too.  We are losing her.  I have killed her pain with Hag venom, so that she can talk.  She is weak but lucid.
“I thought that she should have those that she cared about near to her at the end.”
“Well t’ought o’, Doctor Corin,” Tanlin responded and turned to the doctor’s aide.  “Mikka, go get Barad, quickly.  ‘E should be ‘ere, too.”
The soft, concerned voice of Lenai came clearly to them all, “Did we do it?  Did Kurin come with us?”
Kurin stepped to the bedside, where Lenai could see her.  “I came, Lenai. I am here because of you.”
A hand reached out from under the covers and grasped Kurin’s arm weakly.  “Then it wasn’t a waste.  When the big red haired man stabbed me I feared that my life was lost to no use.  Save Arnat. See that he’s got a ship to call home, please?”
“I think that this ship will stay his home.  I’ve been looking at your case and have agreed to be your advocate before the fleet.”
Lenai smiled.  “I just wish that Arnat was here.  I want to hold him one more time before I go to Iren’s halls.”
“He is here.  Arnat, come over where you mother can see you.”
Arnat came, dry eyed but shaking, to his mother’s bedside.  She reached out and took hold of his arm with one hand and wrapped the other about him.  “Arnat, never fear the Orca’s song.  I can hear it calling me to Iren’s halls.  I won’t hurt there, and I will always love you.”
She relaxed, letting out a long breath.  Her arms fell from him and hung limp.
Barad, who had come in only moments before, knelt at her bedside and crossed her arms over her chest.  Tanlin joined him.
Barad said softly, “While there is a Grandalor, Arnat will have a ship that is his home.  I have no children of my body but I will have Arnat as my own.  He was one of the first to swear to us and the oath that we gave binds us.  We have all chosen one name and to be of one blood.”
Tanlin said, “T’ere’re nae orphans in a Wide Wing rookery because all take care o’ t’e young toget’er.  So we’ll care for Arnat. T’ere’ll be nae orphans on t’e Grandalor.  Oi’ll  log t’e order.”
Outside, the whale still sang but even to the untrained human ear, they could hear that it was a different song.  A second voice and a third joined in.  In moments whales were leaping and singing all about the ship.
In a corner of the sickbay, sitting on a bunk, Kurin was weeping. Another one dead.  Another part of her life shattered.
The simple pride that she’d always had, that held her together when loneliness or fear of loss rose up, was in ruins in her heart. Longin born.  So simple.  So strong.  So ruined by the events of the last few days.
Kurin wept for the young mother she’d tried to save.  Dead for the crime of wanting to talk to her.  Killed by the Longin.  Kurin’s ship. Her home.  A part of herself.  Through tears Kurin saw Arnat being rocked in Tanlin’s arms and wished desperately that she was him. Safe.  Held.  Loved.

I literally do not know what this is. Do not ask me. I think it’s supposed to be a year in the life of Frank Castle trying to work up the nerve to kiss Karen Page? I think? There’s a buttload of cursing in here btw, like, a lot. So, ya know, if that bothers you. Keep out, nerds. @distant-rose @swallowedsong @draxthedestoyer @no-appy-polly-loggies
+ In the intervening weeks between permanently maiming one of his closest, oldest friends and attending his first meeting, he can’t stop envisioning the weight of her skull in his hand. In his memory, it is smaller than it should be; the bone too thin, full of too much blood, pounding so fast it’s gushing from her forehead and face in wave, after wave, after wave. There’s so much of it, she usually dies in his arms and all of a sudden he’s shot through like he was made of nothing but dirt. Like a big-ass block of Swiss fucking cheese.
But, oh, wait, he’ll remember suddenly—or he’ll wake up, covered in sweat, chest uncomfortably tight. She’d been alive, at the end, in the palm of his hand, her neck and her torso twisting towards him. Covered in some blood, some dust and debris, but her heart beating all the same. She ain’t dead yet. And neither is he.
“Why don’t you tell me about her?”
“There’s nothing to tell.”
Isn’t there? Maria’s voice in his head, it’s a little deeper than he remembers, rougher and crueler. She’s always coughing up dirt afterwards, like it’s trapped in her lungs. Like when he asked her to speak it shifted all that stuff around inside of her, and she’s gotta clear it out.
And, really, there is nothing to tell. For once. He’s never been one for words, always preferring the one-two punch to the “uh,” and the “um.” Words can be manipulated, used against him, misinterpreted. But if he’s in front of someone holding a gun to their head, they know what the fuck it means. Karen is good with words. He’d say too good, only the way she uses ‘em, it’s kind of familiar—the sound of her fingers tapping away on that keyboard, those times he’s drifted off on the couch in her living room, sounds a little bit like gunfire.
The first time they’d met, formally that is, she’d done most of the talking. It was a short conversation, if you could even call it that, but then there’d been this moment where neither of them had said much at all. There’d only been breath between them, and this tense feeling that shows up between your eyes when your brow’s been knitted a little too long. And in that silence there were all these unspoken, unsettled questions that he thought maybe he’d like her to answer. And it seemed like, maybe, he could answer a few for her too.
“Curtis was asking me about you.”
“Oh, yeah? What did you say?”
Yeah, brown, damp flecks hitting him square in the cheek, cold and smelling a little like death and mud, what did you say?
He doesn’t want there to be any kind of misunderstanding—he likes it when they talk.
“I like hearing her voice,” he can stubbornly admit, trying to think of a nice thing to say so Curtis doesn’t start accusing her of being a bad influence. Another Micro. When Maria speaks, in his head, he’s pretty sure, when she speaks sometimes her voice doesn’t sound like anything. Sometimes it sounds like his voice only the words are comin’ out all nasty from between her lips. Only Maria would’ve liked Karen and Karen would’ve liked her, and he can’t figure out how to get all this shit straight in his own head.
“Time, Frank,” Curtis will always remind him at the end of their meetings, at the end of casual stops for coffee, “It’s gonna take time.”
That’s the thing about time though, it always runs out, and he doesn’t want it runnin’ out before it’s too late. For her. For him, for the both of them, in some kind of silent, coded intimacy that he can’t make heads or tails of. He’s not sure he’d ever be capable of something like this, before. Would’ve gone right over his head. Would’ve been a pretty girl and he would’ve been a young, handsome guy, and maybe they would’ve shared a drink or something, but—
“Do you ever think about whether or not we would’ve been... friends?” he asks, hesitating, more timid than he’d like, “Before?”
If there’s one thing he could ever say for certain about Karen Page, it’s that she’d let you know if she thought you were asking a dumb fucking question. Fortunately for him, or perhaps not so fortunately, she never seems to find any of his questions dumb. Which means she thinks carefully about all of ‘em, and always gives him good, solid answers that make his heart beat a little too fast.
“I’m not sure,” she starts, tapping a finger against her lips, “I’m not sure we would’ve recognized each other then.”
He wants to say, well, no, of course we wouldn’t have, we didn’t know each other. But then he thinks about it, and he thinks a little bit more, and he wonders if maybe she’s not a little bit right (which, of course she is, he shouldn’t be surprised). He’s pretty sure she’s talking about something like a soul, which he’s never put much stock in to be quite honest, and from what she’s said about religion, never seemed like she did either. Then again, maybe it doesn’t need to be.
In his recollections of their late night, a bit buzzed on a bench by the water conversations, she’s spoken of her life before all of this. Before Nelson and Murdock, before The Punisher and The Bulletin. “I was small,” she said, trying to hide a hiccup behind her lips, “and broke.”
“Man, you’re still broke.”
She’d laughed at that, loud and full-bodied and it was probably something to do with the whisky but he could’ve sworn he’d felt it like a goddamn drumbeat. All in his ears, behind his ribcage, like a grenade had gone off. And then it’d been gone, just like that, out onto the river, into the silence of a city before it’s had it’s coffee yet.
Small, and broke, and only one “professional” outfit, and didn’t know how to put make-up on, and a suitcase full of books and not much else. He wouldn’t have recognized her then.
“I think I would’ve,” he answers, watching this one piece of her hair whipping against her forehead. Taking note of that sheen in her eyes, the redness of her nose. “A little bit.”
“You would’ve walked right by me, Frank Castle.”
“Yeah, maybe,” he admits, standing up and reaching out a hand, thinking about how cold her apartment’s gonna be when they make it back, “but there’s no missing you now.”
It takes him another year before he can bring himself to kiss her. Really kiss her. No more of this forehead, cheek, anywhere but her lips, bullshit. Who the fuck is he? He’s Frank Castle.
Damn straight, baby. Sometimes there’s a little bit of dirt gathered at the corner of her lips, but her eyes are a bit brighter these days. When he sees her. Her eyes are alive, and her cheeks are red, and sometimes he can even hear her voice. When she answers. Sometimes, she doesn’t even answer anymore.
It makes him think about those times, those times he’d get a hot head and he’d just be looking for a fight, and she wouldn’t fight, no matter how hard he pushed. Like she’d known there was nothing really to fight over, he was just trying to fulfill some fucked up impulse to pick a fight when there’s nothin’ to fight over. And that’d make him even more mad, because he would know she was right.
“Maria,” he confesses, laughing lightly, “she was always right about that shit.”
“Well, she’d have to be,” Curtis agrees, giving him a friendly knock on the shoulder, “puttin’ up with your stubborn ass.”
Anyway, it’s like that. It’s like... it’s hard to explain what it’s like. But he’s not sure he wants her to go. He’s not sure what it’ll mean if she goes. If he’s not on the receiving end of her rage, of her grief; if he can’t see the way her cheeks have sunken in, if he can’t smell the blood in his nose anymore. What does that even mean? What kind of man is he?
“The human kind,” pausing, taking a brief look about the room, “we’ve all lost people, Frank.”
He can hear Karen’s voice on the radio and it stings—when he’s not her hero anymore, when he’s no better than a sick kid who hadn’t been able to get his head on straight. Don’t like the way the world works? Blow it up. We’ve all lost people, Frank.
He kisses her for the first time in the hospital, ironically enough. Feels kind of fucked up, but then again, what isn’t these days? Technically, he’s still a dead man, but he’s got the fucking beard back, and the long hair, just to be safe. And they’re in the hospital because when aren’t they in the hospital, because Karen Page was born to unleash her wrath upon the world, only she’s braver than he is, she’s braver and smaller and her bones seem to break easier than his, and her skin is thinner and god fucking dammit, if she’s not just about to break the fuck in half and there’s not a fucking thing he can do to stop it—
“Frank,” whispering from the hospital bed, groggy and confused. “Frank?”
“Yeah,” he answers softly, taking her hand in his, trying not to think about the fact that her dried blood is seeping into the deep lines of his hands and how it’ll always be there after this, it’ll always be there. “I’m here, Karen. Right here.”
“You ‘kay?”
“Am I okay?” he asks, surprised and a little bit angry, if he’s being honest—which it’s been recommended he be, “You just got a slug to the gut, Page.”
“It’s nothing,” she mumbles, fighting to stay awake and failing. “I’m fine.”
“Fine? You are not fine.”
But she’s unconscious before he can be properly angry with her, and then Murdock’s knocking against the door with that fucking stick and he knows there’ll be no more talking tonight.
He said that they kiss in the hospital, and they do kiss in the hospital, it’s just a few days later. A few days and a few nights and a few more visits from her loud, opinionated friends who he’s started to tune out like an AM radio station. When she’s sleeping he stares at her lips, and when she’s talking he stares, and when they’re wrapped around a straw he stares, and that’s when he thinks that maybe there’s been enough fucking time. I mean, if anything, there’s been more than enough of it, because some cruel fucking God had up and decided to take her out of this equation he’d been trying to figure out since he woke up in a hospital with the sound of his family’s screams in his ears.
“How’s your girlfriend?”
David’s voice is smug over the phone, and he very nearly hangs up, but then he remembers why he called, and Leo had some kind of science fair and he’d helped with the volcano, okay? He wanted to know how the fuck it went. So sue him.
“Yeah, Lieberman, she’s fine, so keep your opinions to yourself, okay?”
It’s quiet for a few moments, the sound of Leo or Zach laughing in the background and Frank’s chest hurts for a minute. And the pain radiates a little bit, he can feel it in his collarbones and his jaw and down his shoulders and there’s this familiar moment where he considers throwing the phone against the wall, smashing it to pieces. Takes a breath instead.
“Remember how I told you about my first date with Sarah?”
“Yeah,” Frank answers, half-listening, trying to figure out whether the two moron twins have left her room yet, “sure do.”
“I was so fucking scared, man. Shit is scary.”
“Scary? It’s not scary, what the hell are you talking about?”
David sighs, kind of laughs, which is infuriating, but he lets it pass. Lets it all pass. Hears her door open, then close, then Red’s stick tapping in the distance.
“Yeah, it’s alright, ya know? It’s really okay.”
“Yep, yeah, I gotta go. Tell Leo I’m proud of her.”
“Will do, Frank.”
It’s the smile that does him in. When he walks back in the room? She fucking smiles at him. Smiling at him like she hasn’t seen him in weeks, months even, only he’d been gone 15 minutes.
“Hey,” exclaiming in a relieved breath, her eyes sparkling and her skin flushed as opposed to that sick, pale color she’d been when he’d brought her in. Barely breathing, barely moving, barely—
“Where’d you go?”
“Uh,” interrupting his thoughts before they could run even further away, “talking to David. Leo had her science fair today.”
“Oh, that’s right!” she says, smiling and remembering like she actually gives a shit. Which, yeah, Frank, she does. “How’d it go?”
“Fine. It went fine.”
She nods and smiles some more, pushes some hair behind her ear in a painfully familiar way, and on top of the fact that she won’t stop smiling at him, is the fact that her movements have become familiar to him. They’ve become as familiar as breathing. The way she pushes her hands through her hair, the way it moves; the way she chews on her bottom lip, the way she holds a mug in her hand.
God, there’s a pressure building behind his eyes. Something like a feeling of relief and pain all at once? If he’d been in a room full of soldiers they might be able to relate to the feeling, he’s not so sure if Karen, or most people for that matter, would be able to understand that when he cries, when he even thinks of it, that it’s fucking torture. It’s torture, because he knows it’s a thing he’s not supposed to do, even though Curtis won’t stop telling him that yes, it’s absolutely a thing you should do, he doesn’t want to do it. Feels like a bullet ripping through his chest. Would rather it be a bullet ripping through his chest.
“Frank?” she asks, a note of worry in her voice. Trying to sit up straighter, wincing and placing a hand on her abdomen. It’s too easy for him to imagine what it could’ve looked like—had it all gone wrong. If he hadn’t been there. Insides all over her outsides, blood pooling underneath her—stop. Stop.
“Don’t move,” he says, quickly moving to her side, sniffing and blinking and trying to look for all the world like a person who has his shit together. Fat fucking chance. “Don’t move, you’ll tear the stitches.”
“Are you okay?” Brow furrowed, a hand reaching for his sleeve, hovering over the fabric like she’s afraid he’ll bite or run away, and he’d rather she just smile again.
“I’m good,” he assures her, a bit of a lie at first. Too used to telling people he’s “good,” when really it’s a lie, but all of a sudden, he realizes he might be telling the truth, and somehow her hair looks soft even though she’s been in the hospital for a week and it should look like garbage, and he just can’t not—
Kiss her. His hands, clean now, callused and lined, and the knuckles bigger than they used to be, cupping her face and moving all that hair out of her eyes and bending down because he’s just too big for this. She tastes like jello. Lime jello, and her lips are a little bit chapped, but they still open against his and he almost sobs in relief. Her hand finally touching down against the sleeve of his jacket, gripping tight and pulling and when he hears a small gasp of pain he pulls away enough to see her grin.
“I’m okay,” she whispers, a gentle sound underneath all that chaotic beeping. All those footsteps outside, those voices and clipboards and whatever else makes up a place. Her eyes look a little wet, and he’d be nervous it’d all gone horribly wrong, only it all looks a little too familiar for it to be a mistake.
“Hey,” readjusting his hands where they seem to have become glued to her cheekbones, trying to follow her eyes as they move back and forth over the planes of his face, trying to memorize him in the same moment he’s trying to memorize her, and he just thinks of the dumbest fucking thing to say.
“I think I recognize you.”

dinner @ Nomiya
Good afternoon, all. Long time no update :P been busy working on things, such as Korea vlogs, reading (currently reading Kinsella’s Can You Keep A Secret?), & watching Kdramas (I finished Woman of 9.9 Billion, & now I’m on a weekly ‘wait’ for Romantic Teacher, Dr. Kim season 2). I plan to binge through Crash Landing On You- I have actually watched up to ep 3ish (can’t really remember). I had a hard time watching it for real; it was one of those dramas that I just played in the background as I was doing stuff. But my friend Susan is like hooked, so I plan to give it another chance.
Anywho, Feb. 12... ah it’s been a year since I was stuck at the SEA-TAC airport for 28 hours........ where did 2019 go? A yr later, seems like my “luck” on this day has remained the same.
Long story short, Susan & I made plans ages ago to go eat at this Japanese restuarant (more like an izakaya), however, we went thru some hiccups.. . in the end, we had dinner last night at Nomiya instead. Which really turned out to be a blessing in disguise bcos Nomiya had a Big Bang playlist on haha
The last came to this restaurant (Oliver Square location) was a few yrs back, with the IBlet crew. Back then, they only had a 1-pager menu, but now they have a book, complete with coloured pictures & everything. They really up’d their menu!
Susan & I both got their ramen combo, where you choose your ramen, 1/3 appetizers that they’ve listed, as well as 1/6 mini don’s (small rice bowls with diff toppings).
Tumblr media
Agedashi tofu (bottom left), chicken karaage (top left), kani ikura don (top right), & tako wasabi don (bottom right).
The 2 top ones were Susan’s while the bottom 2 were my orders. I really liked the tofu. It was quite plain, where some might even say it’s bland but I felt it was a nice appie bcos it was light. I personally liked the kani ikura don more; it’s topped with tempura bits & a crab meat salad. It had a very fresh feel to it over the warm rice. The tako wasabi wasn’t bad either; it had a salty initial flavour then the mild wasabi flavour seeps through. I didn’t eat the ginger bcos .. . I won’t. I thought the texture of the raw octopus was great & all, but overall, when you put the 2 together, I preferred the kani ikura.
Tumblr media
Susan’s spicy garlic ramen.
Tumblr media
My Shio. Since it snowed yesterday, & it was cold.. . this was such a good option, I felt. Rich but not greasy, bouncy noodles, nice toppings.. . it was comforting .. . & “basic”. You can’t go wrong with this. If you’re new to ramen, I highly recommend trying this one out.
We had a lovely time catching up, service was good as well, & our overall visit here was an enjoyable one. =]

Top "Video Editing" Online Courses
The transmission in the Play and iOS Appstore is also possible. The CHIP installer only downloads this download quickly and securely via the CHIP high-speed server, so that a trustworthy origin is ensured. In addition to virus scans, each download is manually checked for you by our editorial team.

If you have no desire and / or time to edit your videos, you will love Magisto. The basic version of the app can be used free of charge, but you can only export and edit your videos take a look at the site here in the premium version. A key feature of TikTok is that the app does not contain any advertising or monetization methods. By disabling advertising pop-ups and monetization, the user experience becomes more pleasant and comfortable. What we particularly like is the fact that the kit is both fun and works very well. Among the features on offer are e-commerce, bonus cards, table reservations via open table and resmio, picture galleries and of course the well-known news streams, e.g. The screenshots shown here show the English user interface - AppYourself is also available entirely in German. There are three tariff levels with different limits for active users and push message campaigns. The advertising also disappears after the upgrade and cross-device synchronization is activated. To turn it off and export the videos in RAW format, you have to pay 4.99 euros. But you can at least try out whether it's worth it. With the app you can also load older videos to slow them down afterwards. High quality visual impressions are the key to apps that are well received by customers. We found seven different templates that can be combined with six different navigation styles. Colors, wallpapers and symbols can be customized with your own designs. The practical tool can enhance scans with filters and extract images. This scanner also records several documents in a row, can extract texts and finds page margins by itself. We have been accompanying the website builder market for over five years and have found that building a simple website is no longer a real challenge. This app has passed the security tests against viruses, malware and other malicious attacks and contains no threats.
We looked at which slow motion apps for Android and iOS are recommended to introduce them to you.
Therefore, they may not be the ideal solution for your terrific app ideas (e.g. larger social networks or multilingual apps).
You can use filters, Add emojis, text, and music to your videos.
If you don't have the time, you should try to find an app developer. In any case, compare different offers and carefully review the applicants' ratings. The video on the website firmly claims that every twentieth app is based on BusinessApps. The California company was founded in 2010 and now forms the basis for more than 300,000 apps. The most important detail about Appy Pie are some of the functions that cannot be found in the competition.
1. Streaming economy and growth

You can also use pictures for your project and mix them with the videos in video editing. Video projects are possible up to a resolution of 1,980 x 1,080 (Full HD) with a maximum frame rate of 30 frames per second. Unfortunately, the software supports a maximum of stereo sound, which should be sufficient for most home projects. The purchase of this item is a transaction with Google Payments. To create a native app for iOS or Android, you have to choose the Mobile Apps tariff, which costs $ 59 a month. The editor is clearly structured and makes a very solid impression overall. Loyalty points, appointment bookings, e-commerce, reviews and events on offer. Most of the sample apps featured in the gallery are from restaurants, bands, or similar organizations that manage events. Hi! I'm a witch in training, and I'd like to develop my skills as a hearth witch. Any spells you can recommend? Also, I'm currently living in a place that I don't feel all that attached to as a home. Any recommendations for how to strengthen a bond between myself and my living space? Thanks!
Hurray! More hearth witches!! I just want to collect them all :D
Hearth witchery isn’t a specific path like Wicca. It’s one of the more eclectic branches of paganism in my opinion. Hearthwitchery is as varied and unique as its practitioners.
I wrote a little post about hearthcraft here: https://madamehearthwitch.tumblr.com/post/162148549126/what-is-a-hearth-witch
And a book that’s my favorite is “Way of the Hedge Witch” by Arin Murphy-Hiscock.
Really, I think it can be summed up as the practice of bringing the magical into the mundane. I don’t do a lot of spells exactly, as I’ve said before. But I focus on manipulating the energy of myself and my home to make it welcoming.
As for how to make your space more homey.. For me I find cleaning, then decorating are the two things that make me feel as though I’m at home in a space. Probably because it’s a way of asserting ownership. Cleaning, both in the physical and energetic spectrum is the first thing I do when I move in somewhere. One it’s physically cleaned, I sage the space then salt the corners, welcoming the local elements.
I like to make my space witchy, even in subtle ways. Candles are a favorite. Artwork that is pagan but not overt. Paintings of crows, trees, and a few tea cups with fairies are things I’ve put up around my place which don’t out and out scare my more conservative relatives.
If you’re up for it, throw a dinner party! Appies, dinner, dessert, a fancy drink like homemade lemonade with fruit in it… it’s a great way to practice hearthcraft. If that’s a bit beyond your situation, have someone over for a movie and make some snacks!
Just a few ideas off the top of my head. Would love to talk more about this and hearthcraft any time! Feel free to shoot me a message for more specific advice and chats if you like. I hope that helps.

I love your insight about cartoons and wondered, how do you feel about CG Disney animation? I am no expert at all but in previous films such as Pocahontas, Mulan, Lilo & Stitch I enjoyed their particular styles, drawings, lines, background... there was something beyond the generic Disney look. Is it me or Moana, Wreck it Ralph, Big Hero 6, Frozen... all seem to display the same combination of super realistic backgrounds and cartoony characters? I must be missing something... Thank you in advance
You’re partially right! CG tends to be more stylistically limited than 2D, but it doesn’t have to be…although the stylization is going to be different. Allow me to explain.
For a very, very long time, the whole point of CG was to make graphics as close to reality as possible. That’s still the emphasis in the special effects industry, and most animation studios have gotten used to doing it. You have to remember that when CG films first started coming out, we had never seen a completely realistic animation style before. Something like Toy Story was absolutely mind-boggling back when it was first released. And as new films started coming out, especially from Pixar, their rendering of various environments and characters were stunning: Finding Nemo’s undersea setting, The Incredibles and its human animation complete with hair and clothing, Monsters, Inc. and the system they created for animating Sully’s fur. These were all brand new innovations that were visually incredible…at least, they were back then.
Nowadays, though, studios have pretty much nailed realistic graphics, and audiences are used to seeing it in every single animated film. There are of course various methods of character design, but when you model them in the computer and start slapping textures on to them, they do start looking a little similar to the untrained eye (by “untrained” I mean people who haven’t been working in the industry or at least taken a bunch of classes and read a bunch of books on character design). Now, Disney does sort of have a style of character design, which you can see even in their 2D animation; they mix it up from time to time, but certain traits carry across almost every film. There are exceptions – Wreck-It Ralph desgined the characters from each game in a different way – but when you get to Moana and Frozen, yeah, all the characters look like they could exist in the same world.
You mentioned cartoony characters on a hyper-realistic background, and I’ll tell you why that specific thing happens. Like I said, studios have realistic graphics down pat, but right now it’s basically impossible to animate a human being that is indistinguishable from reality: not because of graphics or unskilled animators, but because humans have spent millions of years evolving to read the tiniest signals in each others’ bodies and faces, and we can spot an imitation right away. But because cartoon characters don’t try to exactly mimic reality, we give them a lot more leeway, allowing animators to freely practice their craft without the audience feeling like something is off. Studios still want to show off their graphical prowess, so they use it for the graphics and textures while still applying design principals to the characters themselves.
But it’s totally possible to make a CG movie that looks stylistically different than the norm! It’s never going to be the same as 2D, because they’re two completely different mediums, each with its own way to vary the style. In 2D, you can use line quality, influence from various art styles, and differently painted backgrounds (like the watercolors in Lilo and Stitch.) In CG, there are no lines, no paint, and while some art styles can lend their influence, others simply don’t make the transition from 2D to 3D very well. But you can use different interesting methods of 3D modeling, appy unrealistic textures, and do crazy things with motion that are very hard to draw. A good recent example is Dreamworks’ new Captain Underpants, which I highly recommend if you’re looking for a different art style (and also it’s an absolutely adorable movie in general).
One thing you’re completely right about is that Disney hasn’t really deviated from their CG style. Neither has Pixar. There have been a few small steps in the right direction; ever notice how in the Fix-It Felix Jr. game in Wreck-It Ralph, absolutely everything, including liquid splatters and dust clouds, is shaped like a cube? Or how the Nicelanders all move in a jerky way typical of 1980s game characters? Of course, they’ve also taken some giant stylistic steps backwards (*coughcoughFrozencoughcough*). They also interestingly combined 2D and 3D animation in their shorts Paperman and Feast. Inner Workings also attempted a drastic style shift, which…didn’t quite work out. But I’m still waiting for them to make an inventive-looking CG movie.

New to the story?  Read from the beginning.  PART 1 is here
///////////////////////
Safe.  Held.  Loved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to Abs Diet family of books.
5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!!!! I have several of the Abs Diet books and was worried the recipes in this book would be repeatitive, boy was I wrong. There are so many new recipes. The ones I have tried are delicious and so quick to fix. The ingredients are things you have in the pantry already. My husband even loves when I cook from this book. Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars Love Love Love This Cookbook There are so many good things to say about the New Abs Diet Cookbook. I just don't know where to start. The recipes are all about the 12 power foods which are so healthy and delicious. You really don't have to worry about counting calories. This is a diet for life, just good healthy eating that is slimming and energizing. I absolutely love the smoothie recipes! Regular smoothies and eating 6 times a day is encouraged, so you will never be hungry. I recommend this cookbook to Everyone! Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT! This is the best cookbook I have ever bought. The recipes are very simple, but very flavorful. I liked the information that was in the first twenty pages because it explains the ideas behind the diet. Since purchasing this book, I have also bought the companion text, which elaborates on the first twenty pages of the cookbook. It's a little expensive to get started, buying all the groceries that are needed for most of the recipes, but ingredients repeat themselves throughout the entire book. After the first two weeks of cooking solely from this book, I found that I only needed to pick up one or two things from the store for meals.I honestly cannot praise this book enough. I also would like to report that I lost over five pounds in the first two weeks :) Go to Amazon
4.0 out of 5 stars Great, EASY, tasty recipes. I love how easy the recipes are. You won't have to buy unfamiliar ingredients for this. There are a few recipes that have stuff that you won't use all the time but a huge majority of ingredients are foods that most of us would buy anyway. I have another recipe book that focuses on clean eating and the Abs Diet Cookbook by far has better and more realistic recipes that are delish! Oh yeah...and a lot of them are quick! Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars Loose Your Belly Fat Cookbook Hardback book. Lots of good information and way to help get rid of belly fat. Recipes are flavorful and do not require a lot of supplies or time to put together. Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars The Cook Book and the the Abs Diet Plan Works 290 to 265 in 2 Months 44 waist to a 40 only worked out the first 30 days Purchase the Cook Book instead I also purchased the items to read on my kindle fire I have the hard copy and the kindle fire appI went from 290 to 265 in 2 Months and I was never Hungry the thing was not so much the weight but the inches I lost 44 waist to a 40 I worked out for the first 30 days and feel of the wagon but I keep eating the same and I am still losing weight but I should really work out a little .The product works as expected and I would purchase the item again.Thank you all for taken the time to post a review .I purchased this item based from information on Amazon so I will be going back to all the items I purchased and leaving a review.I usually only purchase items online or in the store if I am able to get real reviews from Amazon.comNo I do not work for Amazon Go to Amazon
5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide for anyone loooking to lean up! I love the abs diet, and followed it a few years ago before having my babies. 5 years, 2 kids and 6 months after delivery I struggled with the last 10 lbs. I returned to the abs diet and saw results immediately! It's concise, easy to follow, plus the meals are delicious. For simplicity and easing into it I give it an A+, I'm a busy mom whose husband is military and gone often so I need easy and pleasing to my family. I eat a much more plant based diet than he shows, so if you have exceptions you want to adhere to, I recommend reading the entire abs diet. It explains in depth the nutritional content you are requested to eat for success. For example, instead of yogurt in my smoothies, I add black strap molasses and probiotics (to fill in the calcium and probiotics in his recommendation of yogurt) In lieu of meats, I sub beans and romaine lettuce (yes it has protein!) . I'm not a vegan, but I try to limit my animal products and because of the knowledge he gives me in the book, I have been successful at subbing out. 9 lbs down the first 2 weeks, and much noticed firmness. I do the workouts too, for the most part! Highly recommend this book. Go to Amazon

Mobile app development for ecommerce
E-commerce, basically a short form for electronic commerce, (also called e-business) refers to any business that uses the world wide web or the internet. With the world becoming more virtual, it makes sense for the traditional mindset of businesses to change with the times. The entire shopping process is slowly moving from the touch and feel kind to the see and visualize kind – with images, videos and audio taking the experience to a whole new level. It is not wrong to say that this is one of the major uses of the internet nowadays. This is inevitable today to understand why mobile app development for ecommerce is an essential factor.
Some of the main advantages of e-commerce as we know it are:
No barriers of time or distance – people can shop at their convenient time and wherever they want. People are not constrained by the timings of a typical brick and mortar establishment.
Geography does not matter – with shipping to any part of the world possible, businesses can literally go global.
Faster – the shopping experience, if found pleasant, would result in a faster sale.
Cheaper – the businesses no longer have to maintain stone and mortar showrooms and invest in staff manning them. Subsequently, some of these cost benefits were passed on to the customers, who saved on the fuel to travel to the store anyway.
Convenient – e-commerce is more convenient not only to the seller but to the buyer as well.
In order to understand the different types of e-commerce businesses, let us have a quick look at the terms used:
B2B – business to business (can be equated to wholesale business)
B2C – business to consumer (can be equated to retail business and is also called e-tail)
C2C – consumer to consumer (home-based business or small scale business)
C2B – consumer to business (e.g consultants to businesses)
The online shopping process:
The first step is the creation of an e-commerce website or an app that allows people to view what you are offering for sale – be it products or services. This software should allow customers to purchase, pay, track the delivery and give feedback on the product/service and shopping experience. Finally, the software should be able to recommend new products to existing customers based on their browsing and purchasing history.
Applications in e-commerce:
The applications used for e-commerce are many viz:
Websites
Email
Catalogues
Payment gateways
Social media
Mobile apps
It is vital that information security is stringently implemented with suitable controls and encryption of communication to ensure that customer data is safe.
The transformation of mobile phones and usage
The older day phones came with call receiving and making functions, text capabilities and some rudimentary applications like calendar, music, email etc. Some basic games like Snake were included and the mobile browser came in to access the internet. The advent of the smartphone has really opened up the possibilities of the mobile and made it akin to a personal computer.
Studies have found that mobile phones are checked 150 times a day on an average and that people spend around three hours a day on their phones. No wonder it makes sense for e-commerce to transition to a mobile experience.
Why mobile apps instead of browsers?
Apps are faster – some data is stored locally on the mobile phone and so the entire experience is faster than a browser. A browser has to request data over the web for all the queries whereas the app fetches it from the device giving a faster response.
Apps are more visible – since apps are hosted on mobile phones which are used for a long time, they are visible to the user and help in brand recognition and brand recall. There are more chances of the app being used than the website.
Apps are focused – there are no pop-ups or ads within an app and make the shopping experience smoother. A major distraction or irritating feature on a website are the factors that take away the attention of the customer from the sale.
Apps use the features of the device – like camera, GPS, touch ID, contact list and so on so that payment can be made easier. A camera can be used for the credit card payment, GPS can be used to sell based on user location, touch ID can be used for payment, and sometimes the address book can be used to send ads or promotions.
Apps can be used offline – some parts can be used when you are not connected to the internet and later on, connect for the payment and other options. The local cache of the device is used to host these features that do not require internet connectivity to give the user access to the app even when data is not enabled or available on his mobile.
Websites are generally designed to cater to most browsers but sometimes some browsers may not be compatible and the user experience is not too good. There are many browsers and keeping track of the possible upgrades on all the browsers is a herculean task, which may have some misses. Apps work better and are easier to use.
Apps are no longer difficult to build – with the huge amount of app builder software present on the web, mobile app development is no longer a tedious task. Depending on the type of business you have, small scale or enterprise, type of interface required, number of users, features required, traffic expected, you can tailor make an app to suit your requirements and budget. A few examples of the mobile app builders are io, appy pie, good barber, mobincube,  swiftic to name a few.
The cost of developing a mobile app is affordable to even small businesses. In fact, apps reduce the marketing and advertising costs since the brand is available on the handheld and communication happens directly to the user on the app using the push notifications.
Apps have been proven to increase sales because of the ease of shopping and the pleasant shopping experience helps in converting more leads to business.
Increase in customer base is an added bonus if mobile apps are developed – due to the simple fact that the number of mobile phone users is constantly increasing. Studies have proved that mobile user base is consistently growing and there are very few basic phone users out there.
Apps are more secure compared to websites. There is no need to float the user ID and password every time over the internet when you want to login to the mobile app. So for tech-savvy users, they are a better bet than e-commerce
Apps provide a better user experience – since users do not have to remember a URL or their login details when they use an app. Of course, the design of the app plays a major role in the user experience.
Apps have lesser chances of cart abandonment than an ecommerce website. This is a major problem for all ecommerce which is significantly reduced in a mobile app.
Apps can improve customer engagement – if you can think of having a helpdesk or chatbots to take queries, give recommendations based on browsing and order history or even remind users of items left in the cart but not ordered.
What should be available on a mobile app?
Accurate details about the product and the cost. These should get topmost priority in any app design.
Great images – since the user cannot touch or feel, images are what will sell your product. It makes sense to have professional photos and even a 360-degree view of the product on display to give a great user experience.
Simplicity in design and ease of use – instead of creating a busy app, it is better to grab the users attention using simplicity.
Information security – there is a lot of user data available on the app including address, proof of identity and credit card details sometimes. It is mandatory to ensure that this data is kept secure and not vulnerable to theft.
Integration with other social media – instead of asking a user to fill in multiple details to create a user ID and password, it makes sense to use their social media accounts like Google or Facebook to login. Chances are that more accounts would get created this way since people hate filling up details.
Push notifications – to market your goods, make the customer aware of discounts and offers etc.
Geolocation identification – when the app is capable of picking up the location of the user, it is possible to send relevant notifications and customize the user experience.
App only offers – many businesses run app only offers where they offer discounts if ordering is done from the app rather than the website. When a customer downloads the app, he or she becomes a brand loyalist and a repeat customer.
Reward points – can be used to bring the customer back for another round of shopping.
Customer support – both technical and business support 24/7 goes a long way in building confidence and boosting sales.
Simple ordering and checkout process – the number of steps should be as minimum as possible so that the process is faster. There should also be an option to retain the items in the cart if there is a network failure somewhere in the checkout process so that the process can be repeated again.
Simple payment options. A payment gateway is mandatory with a backup if required.
Mobile cloud computing ensures a better experience to the users since the data will be retrieved based on the location and doesn’t have to be fetched from on-premise data centres which may be halfway across the globe.
Looking at all the different advantages, it makes more economic and commercial sense to invest in building up a great mobile app for your business which will help increase your customer base, increase potential leads and improve conversions of leads to sales and improve direct marketing, brand recognition and brand recall. Big businesses (typically B2B) who are already established in the market can use the mobile apps to change their style of marketing and advertising, whereas small businesses and startups can gain business significantly by adopting the mobile apps. The future of ecommerce business is mobile apps and there are some organisations that are looking at doing away with conventional websites and focus entirely on mobile apps only. Mobile apps are thus the way to go, for any ecommerce business.

Clear the List October 2019: My italki Speaking Challenge Plans
Hello and welcome to another blog post in the Clear The List series, the monthly language learning round-up about language learning goals and progress. Gretchen Rubin says
The days are long, but the years are short.
Well, I get the feeling that the days were >< this long in September. Nothing like a check-in post to remember what even happened!
If you’re inspired to try your own check-in, why not join our #clearthelist blog round-up hosted by Shannon Kennedy and Lindsay Williams.
What Happened in September?
In the last week of September I spoke a lot of German! My husband is a fairly inactive German learner and we switched to the language for all conversations for a bit. I have not found it realistic to just “teach him German by speaking all the time”, so that short-term effort is unlikely to stick. Read this if you want to know more about learning languages through a partner.
The Fluent Show
First of all: The Fluent Show has opened a Patreon page. This allows all listeners to become involved in making the show with a small monthly pledge (though you can send a huge one if you like).
If you want to become a part of the community, please visit our Patreon page.
If you listen to just one episode from September 2019, I recommend the exciting recap of Langfest in Montréal. You’ll be transported there instantly!

Language Goals and Progress
Here’s the short summary of what you’re about to read: I didn’t do much in one big chunk, but I did lots of little things and they added up. Or in another Gretchen Rubin quote…”what you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while.”
Mandarin Chinese
I am feeling progress with this language. There is not a huge jump ahead as I’m not putting the big hours in, but still it’s going from noisenoisenoisenoisenoise to noise-word-noisenoisenoise-something-I-know. And phone typing in Chinese is also easier now. Hooray!
Here’s how I did with my goals:
Look for a tutor and ask for listening support
I did look but I didn’t book. Hah! Must do better in October.
I did use Yabla this month to start a bit of TV in Chinese. I found a fun reality TV show on there and I’m excited that there are a few more learning materials available to me compared to Welsh.
Use LingQ 4 days a week
No LingQ but it’s been an appy month anyway (GEDDIT?), as I moved ahead and levelled up with the wonderful Lingodeer. It is the best app-based course I’ve seen in Chinese.
By the way, I contacted Lingodeer and asked them for a discount code so you can now get 15% off Lingodeer membership using the code FLUENTSHOW.
Vague speaking ambitions
I recorded myself reading the Chinese challenges on Lingodeer, but beyond that there wasn’t much progress. Again, stuck on getting a tutor.
Welsh
File under “what you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while”. In other words: I spoke Welsh, I read Welsh, I heard some Welsh, I typed a bit, but none of it in huge quantities.
Language Goals for October 2019
This month I need a little time to recover and focus on promoting the next Fluent German Retreat, and there’s a 10-day trip to the USA in my plans as well. Busy one, so I’ll be combining my goals for Welsh and Chinese.
Listening and Speaking
October is an italki challenge month, so I have a good reason to book lessons in both Chinese and Welsh, which should cover some of my speaking and listening needs.
The minimum hours to put in for a badge are 12, so I’ll divide mine into
6 hours of Welsh conversation (exciting)
5 hours of Chinese practice (terrifying)
3 hours of wildcard languages (exciting)
I’m thinking I might throw in a bit of French and BSL. What about you?
Reading
Apps and LingQ for Chinese, the final pages of Ffenestri in Welsh. My focus is not on this for the month.
Writing
I’ll see if I can make writing a part of my lessons somehow for the Chinese part. In Welsh, it’s a little easier since I have a few people I can always message in the language.
And that’s it for October’s #clearthelist!
How are You Getting On in Language Learning?
Boy, I’m so looking forward to my next trip to Wales. Nothing is booked yet and autumn is already going to be fairly travel heavy, but then..what’s better than learning in the country? This is why I run retreats in Germany after all!
What about you? Share your check-in and plans in the comments below!
