Months later....
Sitting in the coffee shop alone after visiting so many times with Bob truly made Anna sad. She was so used to sipping her coffee while he drank his hot tea, and somehow the scent always clung to his hair for hours afterwards. She'd bury her nose against him when they got home, and he would laugh when she told him he always smelled good.
But now he was gone, and she couldn't do anything about it. She accidentally burned her mouth on her coffee, and after that it tasted disgusting. She got herself a croissant, but they were better when shared. Tears stung her eyes, and she had to take a deep breath and convince herself that it would be over soon. Then she focused her attention on her computer as she worked through some more of the changes she wanted to make to her manuscript.
After three more paragraphs, it was no use. It wasn't even ten o'clock in the morning yet, but she gave up and switched to the notes app on her phone where she had been adding ideas for Jessica's bridal shower and bachelorette party. Physics jokes about the laws of attraction? Designer lingerie shop in LA? Can you make a math equation that looks like a penis?
She would defer to Advanced Calculus for that last item. With a sigh, she was about to close her computer, buy another croissant for Suzanne, and then head out when she saw a new email notification.
"No way," she gasped as she tapped on it and stared at her computer screen.

Anna's heart started pounding erratically, and her fingertips felt numb. Anticipation and confusion mingled together as she opened the link. It was difficult to read as she tried to take a deep breath, but she wanted to consume Bob's words as quickly as possible.
I can see the dusky outline on the horizon,
But the California coastline isn't enough.
I need to be at home.
I need my bookshelf.
I need my books.
I need your books.
I need my Anna.
I need to see you in the next two minutes,
Because twelve weeks is way too long.
"The next two minutes?" Anna mumbled to herself as she read the last lines over again. "Two minutes?" She was out of her seat immediately, neck craning around the crowded coffee shop, looking in every direction. And that's when she saw him stroll inside in his khaki uniform and silver glasses with the most handsome smile on his face.
"Bob!" she cried out, nearly tripping over her chair as she left her stuff behind to get to him as quickly as she could. He was home. He was home early from his deployment. Communication had been a little spotty, and there was so much she wanted to tell him, but he was finally home.
"Anna," he murmured as she threw herself at him, knocking the wind out of her own lungs. His arms were wrapped around her as soon as her lips met his, and she didn't care if there was a whole shop of people watching them. He was finally home. Somehow he still tasted like tea, and he smelled so good, she buried her nose against his neck as he chuckled.
"How did you know I was here?" she asked, kissing him just above his shirt collar.
"Jess told me," he replied easily.
She kissed her way up to his ear as he started to slowly walk her backwards to the small table where she'd been sitting. "Why didn't you call me? I could have picked you up. I missed you so much."
"I just wanted to surprise you," he whispered, claiming her lips again as they stood next to the table.
She looked up at his pretty eyes and said, "This is a wonderful surprise. And I have one of my own."
"What is it?" he asked softly, his fingers tracing the freckles along her cheek and chin as she grinned up at him.
"I'm divorced."
His eyes went wide, and a sound of pure excitement escaped him as he scooped her up into his arms. "You're divorced?"
Anna laughed as she told him, "Finalized ten days ago. Fuck Kevin."
"You drove my truck here? Let's go," Bob said, immediately carrying her toward the exit.
"Wait, I need my stuff!"
"Oh. Right," he replied, suddenly very flustered as he helped her shove her computer and phone into her bag.
"I was planning to get a croissant or something to take to Suzanne," she said as he practically dragged her outside and down the street to his truck.
"Well, I was planning on taking you back to the bookstore to pick out something we could read together tonight, but this is even more important."
Anna ended up with her back pressed against the side of the truck while he unlocked the door, and she pressed her lips to his Adam's apple while she tried to hold onto her bag. She wanted to taste him everywhere. "Going right home actually sounds like a pretty good idea."
"That's exactly where we're going," he promised, tossing her stuff onto the seat before helping her in as well. The six seconds when he was walking around the truck and she couldn't touch him were miserable, but soon enough, he was kissing her while he started the engine. Then she had her fingers wrapped up with his while he started to drive. "I love you, Anna." He kept his eyes on the road as he made his way through Coronado, and she felt warmer than she had in twelve weeks. "I love you, and I would never pressure you to do anything you didn't want to do."
She turned to look at his handsome profile. "I know you wouldn't. That's why I love you so much."
She watched as he swallowed hard before saying, "I know we talked about our future, but it was always kind of ambiguous while we waited for your divorce decree."
"It's not ambiguous anymore!" Anna cheered as they neared his house where she had been living for months. "I'm ready for the future. The future is here. The future is now."
She was all smiles as he parked the truck with an anxious look in his eyes. "You told me you wanted me forever," he whispered, and Anna couldn't figure out why he looked so nervous.
"Of course I want you forever," she told him once again. She'd made it as clear as she could that she was done running. Kevin and New Jersey and everything that could have broken her but didn't were all left in the past. She was moving on a little bit more every day with Bob and her best friends and her tenure track teaching position at San Diego State. She was unashamedly taking excellent care of herself, and she never stopped Bob when he told her she needed to take a break and that he'd handle something for her. She wasn't going anywhere ever again.
"I want you forever, too. And we can go slow, or we can go fast. Or you can tell me you don't want what I have to give you, and that's okay too."
"What?" she asked, her heart sinking in her chest as he parked and climbed out. She wanted everything Bob had to give, and she wanted to give him everything, too. They even talked about getting married someday after he initially got over his nerves enough to bring up the topic. She had assured him that he was exactly the only person she would do that with after her disastrous first marriage. Why would he think she didn't want what he had to give?
"Bob?" she asked as she climbed out as well and met him on the sidewalk. "Why do you look so concerned?" He didn't respond. He only led her up to the porch and unlocked the door. "Bob!" she complained when he scooped her up and carried her up the stairs, going two at a time until his breath was coming in shorter gasps. Instead of turning toward their bedroom like she expected, he went into the guest room and dropped her onto the futon.
She rarely came in here. It was almost funny that Bob planned on sleeping in this room when he insisted Anna come home with him after Kevin figured out where she lived. And now he was on his hands and knees, crawling under the futon as she asked, "What in the world are you doing?"
He hit his head and grunted in response, but a second later, he emerged with his hair all messed up and something in his hand. "I got you a ring."
"A ring?" she asked, realizing he was holding a small box. A jewelry box. She looked at him where he was kneeling in front of her, cheeks turning pink. "What kind of ring?" she whispered, hopeful yet needing to be sure.
Bob snapped the box open, and all Anna could see was a beautiful diamond. "An engagement ring. But only if you want it. I know you probably need more time. I don't even need an answer right now, I promise," he told her earnestly as she scooted a little closer to him. "You were still married two weeks ago, but I wanted to give it to you now anyway. You can wear it or not wear it. We can wait a while if you want. I just... wanted you to know it's all yours. I'm all yours."
She hadn't worn the rings from Kevin in over a year and a half. She pawned them with no remorse before she left for California. "It has been a very long time since I was really married, Bob." She took the box from his hand and looked at the ring. She couldn't stop smiling, and the tears in her eyes made the diamond look all blurry as she asked, "Do you really want to marry me? I'm a mess."
He grinned at her. "You're really not, Baby. You're smart and beautiful and funny and kind. You're a fighter. Of course I want to marry you."
Without another word, Anna took the ring from the box and slid it onto her finger. She'd known Bob long enough to be sure that his words were honest. She was willing to throw it all in on Sky Writing. "We can take our time," she whispered, leaning down to kiss him. "There's no need to rush. But I definitely want to wear this ring."
They made a long, luxurious stop in their bed where Anna almost lost her voice from the number of times she called out Bob's name, and then he made her lunch before the two of them made their way to the living room bookshelf.
"We didn't make it to the bookstore to pick out anything new to read," she mused, brushing all of the colorful spines with her fingers.
"Maybe we could read the first book you ever recommended for me. Together this time," he replied, his hands settling on her hips as his chin rested on her shoulder.
Anna smiled as she reached for A Room With a View, remembering so well the day she started to fall in love with Bob Floyd. The book still looked practically brand new even though he'd already read it, and she grinned as she said, "I can't wait to dog ear all your pages."
"I will gladly let you."

🖊️, 🍕 , 🌍, 🐷, 😴, ✈️, 📱
🖊️ - Do you have/want any tattoos?
I find this very difficult. I am absolutely awful at making decisions, and I'm very much afraid of doing things that are irreversible. It took me 3 years to finally get my ears pierced, which is silly because they can heal. I don't think I'd suit tattoos either, and I'm not sure I've ever seen anything I'd like so much I'd want it permanently on me.
I think tattoos are really cool, but I have no idea how I'd actually feel about one on myself and that's scary. I used to consider getting a diabetes tattoo to replace an ID bracelet but I think most of them look pretty bad. 😅
🍕 - What's the last thing you ate?
Hehe. Cadbury's Dairy Milk ice cream. It has a chocolate centre and chunk of chocolate in it. 🤤
🌍 - What is your favourite accent?
Hmm, not sure I have one. Irish is always good. I always find Northern English accents very soothing, reminds me of home. Nothing too strong though.
🐷 - Whats your favourite animal?
I struggle with favourites. I should probably say cats. But I have a soft spot for little garden birds, probably sparrows. They are so tiny and cute, and most people might think they're boring, but they are delightful and tiny and fragile and just so cute. And it doesn't bother them that they have tiny little legs and short lives, they will hop around and chirp just the same. 🥺
😴 - What's the longest you've ever gone without sleep?
Hmm, probably in uni. Pulled an all-nighter followed by 8 hours of lectures. Might have had a nap though. Or might have been coming home from Nova Scotia during the start of the pandemic. Had to come the long way home and I was travelling for at least 24 hours, + the rest of the journey like getting to and from the airports.
✈️ - If travelling was free, where's the first place you'd go?
Normally I'd say back to Canada, but right now I want to go somewhere else. Maybe Italy, or Spain. Somewhere with a warm coastline that I don't know.
📱 - Favourite app on your phone?
Probably Tumblr. 😁 Closely followed by WhatsApp, that's where all my friends live.

The Actor In The App [5/?]
Pairing: Cassian x Jyn Rating: T Summary: Jyn all but swoons and leans against the door as soon as Cassian’s gone. Words: 1628 Notes: Celeb AU. Tagging: @mousedetective
Read @ AO3 | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4
Jyn all but swoons and leans against the door as soon as Cassian’s gone.
She closes her eyes and breathes, a smile softly forming in her lips. Who would have guessed that she would’ve had such a fun date with Cassian? Truthfully, she had never been one to daydream about Hollywood or celebrities, but right now she felt almost like a teen girl dealing with her first crush. And it wasn’t a bad crush at all, Cassian was a complete gentleman and now, she was fully excited to go out again with him.
That night, she had the best sleep she ever had.
***
Work was hard and demanding, but she found that she felt like she was walking on cloud nine. No matter what went wrong at the restaurant she worked, she was in an unusually good humor and she dealt with everything with calm.
She would text Cassian here and there, and then, one day Cassian called. “How about we go out? A morning date, you up for it?”
She was more than up to it, “Sure! I don’t think I’ve ever been on a morning date, so long as it isn’t too early.”
Cassian chuckled, “Not yet, there’s one I have planned that we might have to get up early, but not yet.”
“Oh?” She found herself quite intrigued. “Well, so long as it isn’t this one, because I’m not quite ready to get really early, not even for you.”
“I knew I liked you for a reason,” Cassian laughed loudly. “But I promise you, not this one. We can go to this date after eleven. And then, maybe we can grab a bite after.”
“Sounds good to me, where do you want to meet?”
“I’ll pick you up, let me surprise you again. You free on Monday, right?”
“Yes.”
“Very well, then, I’ll see you on Monday at eleven.”
“Deal.”
The countdown to Monday was, if she was being honest, the longest one of her life. But when Monday came, she woke up early and took a long hot shower to wake up. Dressed in jeans, boots, a nice shirt and her leather jacket, she gave herself a once over in the mirror before doing a casual make up look and putting her hair in a low bun.
When Cassian texted her that he was downstairs, she all but ran out the door. And as it turned out, the place where Cassian wanted to take her, was the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It was a beautiful and calming way to spend time getting to know one another, they simply wondering surrounded by nature and simply enjoying each other’s company.
By the time their date came to an end, they made plans to see each other again. Cassian made it clear that he had downtime, so unless something came up, neither should worry. And it was something that soothed her.
***
Their next date was in a jazz club, they danced and drank and laughed.
“I didn’t know you were such a good dancer!” She exclaimed as Cassian swirled her on the dance floor. “You keep surprising me!”
Cassian beamed at her, “I like to dance, and I have the advantage of being able to hire private tutors.”
“Yeah, I can’t imagine that it must be fun to have other people in your business.”
“No, no it isn’t.” Cassian nodded. “Want a drink?”
She nodded and they made their way to their table and ordered their drinks. “How’s dealing with the paparazzi?”
“Not fun.” Cassian said and took a sip of his drink. “But I’m a private man, so I don’t have them trailing after me.”
“That’s good. I’m glad.”
“Thank you, and just know that if for some reason we end up in the tabloids, I’ll make sure you’re well as much as I can.”
She took a large gulp of her own drink, it was something that worried her, after all, eventually someone was bound to spot them. “Thank you, that makes me feel better.”
***
Their next date was stargazing at the High Line.
They arrived just as the sun began to set, casting a wonderful light upon the view they had. There was a part of her that she was quite excited for this date. Yes, the garden had been a good one, but she would hope that romance blossomed on this one. Maybe she could get him to spend the night. Everything be damned, she wanted him.
They talked about everything, from their childhoods to the good and bad of their jobs. They had drinks and simply watched as the sun set and little by little the stars could be seen, alongside the city view as light turned on.
When it was time to go home, she took a leap of faith and invited him in.
“Are you sure?”
“Never been surer of anything in my life.”
Cassian looked at her eyes, as if trying to discern any lie. In the end, he smiled and said, “Lead on, Jyn.”
The rest of the night was spent in passion and pleasure, it was strange how their bodies melded to one another, like two puzzle pieces that finally found their respective place. It was hard, letting him go in the morning.
***
Their next date was an interesting one, the Museum of Interesting Things.
They perused and listen to their guide, asking questions and seeing old and sometimes strange things. She fell in love with a barometer that seemed to fit the steampunk aesthetic. That date ended with them exploring little Greece.
It was a pleasant surprise for her, that several of days later, Cassian asked for permission to show up at her apartment. When he arrived, he came with a present, a steampunk barometer.
“How did you found this?!”
“I did some research and found it.” Cassian said with a shrug. “And I got express delivery.”
She rushed towards Cassian and planted a soft kiss on his lips. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Jyn,” Cassian’s whole face was soft. “You’re very welcome.”
***
For their next date, it was the Aquarium. And once again it was fun to simply enjoy the animals and learning about them. “I really like dolphins,” she admitted. “And otters, otters are so cute.”
“I have always liked sharks.” Cassian said. “You have no idea how much I loved Jaws, even if the shark was killing people. I have always felt that the shark was misunderstood.”
She snorted in laughter, “A misunderstood killer shark, now I’ve heard everything!”
“He was!” Cassian laughed. “Just imagine your house invaded by people, and I imagine they were tasty people.”
“Oh, you’re the worst!” She laughed. “But I like you anyways.”
“Thank you, miss Erso.”
***
The date that Cassian had promised she would have to get up early arrived. It turns out, that Cassian’s idea was to pedal boat around Manhattan. She would gladly admit to want to punch him in the face, but fortunately she knew how to swim and Cassian would be there with her.
“Be thankful that I like you,” She said as she pedaled at the same time as he did. “Because if I didn’t, you wouldn’t have been able to get me to get up for this.”
Cassian laughed and elbowed her gently, “C’mon on Jyn, look around you! Isn’t it beautiful? This early morning and the coastline look amazing, the sea is calm and it’s just you and I.”
She grumbled, “And just because I like you. But test me, and I’ll toss you over.”
Cassian cackled, “As if you could toss me without going overboard yourself.”
She growled at Cassian, unwilling to admit that he was most likely true. “Only because I like you,” she repeated, but when she turned and looked at the harbor and the light of the sun reflecting on the windows, she was enchanted, even if she wasn’t going to admit it.
“Beautiful view, right?”
“…Yeah.”
***
But one very memorable date is the Literary Pub Crawl, one that he somehow managed to arrange just for the two of them. She can’t quite help but to be impressed by Cassian’s ability to come up with creative dates. This literature crawl was something she would’ve never think for herself, but she likes it. It’s not every day when she tours special places where authors whose names she recognizes sat and drank and wrote. Or ate and wrote.
They drink at a bar and simply enjoy their guide as they speak the story of the bar they’re in. She leans to Cassian’s side, and feels as he throws and arm around her, and her heart skips a beat.
***
Through it all their dates, Cassian also made sure to get here little trinkets here and there. Sometimes she would arrive home to find a flower bouquet, fine chocolates, books, or little collectibles that he thought she would treasured.
One particular day, she arrived to find a gift bag that held the softest leather jacket she’d ever owned. It was like butter and on the inside was warm and she knew she could use it during the winter. And every time, her heart skipped a beat and she knew that this relationship was special and she would do whatever she could do for it to last.
***
But of course, she knew that eventually their relationship was going to leak to the media. But she was not expecting it to be this way.
She’s standing on the line in the grocery store, she’s distracted and her eyes are wondering, but as she starts to look ahead, her line of vision falls into the gossip magazines and that’s when she sees it. In the front page of one large magazine, there is a picture of her and Cassian kissing on one of their dates.

The Butterfly (Dream/Effect)
Mothra's going on a world tour. The Chen family is going on vacation. They arrange for a get together on an island just south of the Korean Peninsula.
Mothra and the Chens really do need to get caught up. It's been a few millennia, after all. And whether she realizes it or not, Mothra left them with quite an unusual legacy.
This is part of an ongoing series of KOTM oneshots. If you don't wanna read the others, all you need to know to understand this fic is that the Chen twins are sort of human shobijin and as such can communicate telepathically with Mothra, and in this AU Mothra survived Boston but lost a wing which is why she's riding around on Godzilla's back instead of flying. Links to the other fics are in the source at the bottom of this post.
###
The tiny crew of a cargo ship stood on the deck and stared as a giant, prehistoric, radioactive, laser-breathing, amphibious reptile with a building-sized moth riding on his shoulder loomed out of the ocean beside them.
The reptile looked down at the chunk of floating metal three times longer than him and the dozen-odd microscopic primates that were steering it.
"That's so weird," the reptile muttered.
You've seen boats before. A few humans were waving. Mothra waved back.
"Sure, but they used to be wood. That's fine. Wood floats. Tricking metal into floating is weird."
Gesila (whose name wasn't always Gesila, but it was when the eyes of Mandarin-speaking humans were upon him) waded past the ship into deeper water, pushed off the sea floor, and switched to swimming on the surface. Mothra moved lower on his back.
That had been far from the only ship they'd seen so far—Gesila and Mothra seemed to have stumbled into one of the ships' migratory routes—but it was certainly the biggest yet.
"And they're loud, too," Gesila went on. "Underwater, I can't hear anything but the boats' hearts and stomachs now. And they've just been getting louder since I woke up. They're even drowning out the whales."
That's awful. If Gesila couldn't even hear the whales, then they probably couldn't hear each other, could they? How could they talk to each other. Mothra looked back at the ship more coolly. It didn't sound that loud to her, but Gesila had assured her that everything was louder underwater, and she had no reason to doubt him.
They had left Infant Island at the Chen twins' request to meet the rest of their family—two sets of ancestors and one set of descendants that had lived their lives knowing of her, at least in a vague sense, but had never had the opportunity to meet her. It ultimately worked out; Mothra needed to do a circuit of the world and check out her egg sites—reset their hatching timers, see where she needed to lay fresh eggs. It was convenient—beneficial, even—to stop at a nearby island on the circuit to meet some of the people that should have been her representatives before setting out.
And so she and Gesila turned toward Jeju Island off the coast of South Korea.
###
"Look at this," Mei said, holding up another pamphlet. "Lava tubes! A hollow cave left behind by the volcano. We can walk a whole kilometer!"
"Ma," Huidie said tiredly, "you don't want to walk a kilometer in a cave. You're over eighty."
"And yesterday I saw a woman my age diving to catch octopus," Mei said. "If she can catch an octopus in nothing but a wet suit, I don't know why I can't walk a kilometer in a cave."
"Because you have arthritis, Ma."
Mei waved Huidie off with a huff and returned to the pile of pamphlets balanced carefully on her knees.
This was the first time Mei had left China since she'd retired from Monarch. She and and her daughters Congdie and Huidie typically got to see Ling for the major public holidays, Monarch permitting; but they rarely saw Ilene or the Chen family's youngest generation, Athena and Diana, for more than a week in December and a week in the summer—and it was hard to spend time with them one-on-one with the rest of the family dividing their attention and eager to see their wayward American relatives. It was high time that all four generations have a family vacation, twins only.
More importantly, though, it was a chance for the family to meet Mothra.
Ilene and Ling had arranged this trip several days ago—negotiating back and forth while speaking with Mothra on Infant Island, skyping with Dr. Russell in Colorado who was currently babysitting Ilene's children, and chatting with their mother and aunt in Beijing over WeChat. Mothra had needed to make a tour to inspect her eggs, the Chens had wanted this vacation whether they met Mothra or not, and it hadn't been be difficult for the Chens to assemble on Jeju Island and wait for Godzilla to bring Mothra right to them.
Monarch made the arrangements with the nearby nations—no firm promises from North Korea, but China and South Korea had agreed not to swarm the traveling titans with military escorts as long as Monarch could assure them that they were on a pre-planned route and definitely not going to flatten any cities. In fact, Monarch could even promise that no less than two current Monarch agents and three retired ones would be on site when the titans swung by South Korea, which did a great deal to soothe any ruffled feathers.
With that promise of relative privacy, the Chen family trooped out in shorts and shirts and sandals and sun hats, found an isolated stretch of coastline away from the more popular beaches the tourists to Jeju usually visited, helped Mei and Huidie down an uneven slope to where water washed over rocky shore, and waited for their visitor to arrive.
And in the meantime, planned out the rest of their vacation.
"I'd kind of like to go hiking," Congdie said, to Mei's delight and Huidie's exasperation. Congdie and Huidie were sitting on either side of Mei, who insisted that the water washing over her feet didn't bother her a bit on such a warm, sunny day, but wore a towel like a blanket spread across her and her daughter's knees anyway in deference to their concern. It held a dozen glossy travel brochures out of the water. "Look, there's a hiking trail on the volcano. We can do it in a day if we get up early."
"We could do it in a day when we were their age," Aunt said, gesturing toward Ilene, busy with keeping her daughters entertained, and Ling, checking Monarch's titan tracking app to see how close Godzilla and Mothra were. "We're old. My knees can't take a volcano, can yours?"
"Maybe there's an easier route," Congdie said. "I miss getting out in the field."
Huidie waved her off dismissively. "We're on vacation. It's not going to be like getting out in the field no matter what. Look—" she held out another brochure, "there's a couple of spas that look nice. I like the sound of that. Don't you?"
Congdie huffed.
"What about the local culture?" Mei asked. "I haven't spoken with a mudang since Park Chung-lee got a hold of them." (She said this with great disdain. Before joining Monarch, she'd spent years in South Korea, learning what she could about the local religions that the adherents were willing to share, documenting old oral traditions that had been passed down for generations. She was invested enough to take personal offense when the government's "anti-superstition" policies in the 1970s attempted to stamp them out. She saw more parallels than she'd like to the treatment of folk religion in her own nation at the same time.) "I've heard the practice is reviving, I'd like to see if it's true on Jeju."
"It's mainly baksu on Jeju, not mudang," Ilene said distractedly, glancing away from her daughters playing in the surf for only a split second before her gaze focused right back on them. "They've got more male priests than female. They even have different stories about the origins of baksu—they ascribe it to a prince rather than a princess."
Ling, who had moved atop a tall rock and was glancing between her phone and the horizon, said, "I think I see them."
The whole family fell silent, turning toward the horizon. Even Athena and Diana only splashed each other a moment longer before catching the mood and craning their heads to see what their elders were looking at.
And there, on the horizon, they could faintly see Mothra's head and one half-raised wing.
No one said a word for nearly a minute.
"She doesn't look that big," said Athena.
Ilene laughed. "Wait until she gets closer."
Ling, Ilene, Athena, and Diana drew toward their seated elders as Mothra approached. Only Ling and Ilene didn't react when they began to feel her psychic influence, by now used to it. Athena and Diana clapped their hands on their heads at the same time, looked at each other, and burst into quiet giggles. Congdie gasped sharply and Huidie reached for her hand. Mei, who had remained warm, smiling, and collected at her own twin sister's funeral, blinked fast to stop a tear from rolling down her cheeks.
A couple of far ships crested the horizon, more vaguely trailing the titans than actually pursuing them; by the time they were visible, Mothra was close enough that they could make out the scutes on her ride. Diana excitedly whispered "Godzilla" to Athena, whose initial giggles had worn off and left her staring almost petrified at the approaching titans—who were, in fact, that big.
Hello.
The family collectively jumped at Mothra's greeting—Ilene and Ling not because they hadn't been expecting it, but because everyone else's starts startled them. Diana cupped her hands around her mouth and bellowed "HELLO!" back, which made everyone but Athena start again.
Godzilla's back hunched as he moved into shallow enough water that he had to push off against the ground with his arms rather than swim outright—even at that, he was still in deep enough water to drown a human several times over—and he stopped once he was close enough that Mothra could hop off and delicately walk the rest of the way to shore herself. They all stood as she approached; Congdie helped Mei to her feet and Ling helped Huidie.
They had to crane their necks to look up at Mothra, even when she folded up her front legs to rest her chest on the rocks in front of them. They could feel her pleasure at seeing all of them—nothing near the various awe and jubilation the Chens felt at the sight of her, but the same sort of pleased satisfaction that came from visiting a distant town that one hasn't been to in a decade and finding that one's favorite restaurant is still in business and the elderly chef remembers your face. You know who I am, Mothra thought, but allow me to properly introduce myself anyway. I am Mothra. She thought without language, her sentiment automatically translating into words in each of her audience members' minds: Mosila to the five elders, Mothra to the two children. And who are you?
"I'm Athena-like-the-Greek-goddess!" As she always introduced herself, explanation included. Before Ilene could chastise her for not giving her elders a turn first, Athena's younger sister piped up, "And I'm Diana, like Wonder Woman!"
Which was not who she was named after; "Diana" the Roman name for the Greek goddess Artemis, chosen instead of the Greek because it was easier to write in Mandarin—dai-an-na rather than the cumbersome a-er-te-mi-si—and it allowed both girls' names to end with the same character for "na." But if comparisons to Wonder Woman has finally cured her sulking over getting "the boring name," Ilene wasn't going to discourage it.
She cast Mei an apologetic look for her daughters. Mei simply chuckled and looked up at Mothra. "I'm Chen Mei. Just Mei."
You are missing one.
Mei slowly nodded. "My elder sister passed on a couple of years ago."
Remarkable. Usually my twins die close together—within a few months at most. But you look well. The psychic inflection behind the word my was odd; not like she was claiming ownership over "her" twins, but like she was taking responsibility for them.
Mei shrugged. "If I'd died without meeting you first, she would have killed me."
Mothra's antennae twitched as she puzzled her way through the human humor. Then I'm glad you can now meet her without fear.
"But not for another few years, Ma," Congdie said lowly. Feeling Mothra's attention focus on her like a single sunbeam through the clouds, she straightened up. "I'm Chen Congdie. It's an honor to finally meet you."
Her younger twin said, "And my name is Huidie, and I've got a bone to pick with you."
"Sister!"
Do you now? Mothra asked serenely.
Huidie waved off Congdie's scowl. "You've put my family through a load of trouble! Maybe it's no problem for a moth, but do you know how hard it is for a human woman to be a single mother? Especially with twin daughters?"
And this was the main reason the Chen family had taken such pains to meet with Mothra alone, remaining isolated enough that even if anyone tried to record them from afar they'd just be vague dark-haired pale-skinned woman-shaped blurs. At Ilene and Ling's insistence, Monarch hadn't even released the names of the translators who'd been providing transcripts of Mothra's conversations with other titans; nobody outside a select few colleagues and loved ones knew about the family's connection to her. They'd like to keep it that way.
And they had some matters to discuss with her now that they couldn't let anyone else overhear.
For generations, Chen women had given birth to twin girls—without the assistance of a father. Usually between the ages of twenty and twenty-five. Usually only one half of each pair became a mother in such an unusual way—unless they were living far apart, in which case both might get pregnant independently. The twin girls would always be their firstborn children, no matter how early or often they'd tried for children with a husband; some women had tried and failed to conceive for half a decade, had their twin pregnancy, and then easily conceived their next children. A miscarried or aborted twin pregnancy would just be followed by another twin pregnancy about a year later, as would the infant death of one of the twins; only once a set of twins reached about the age five would the death of one not cause their mother to have another set. The right contraceptives would reliably put off the inevitable pregnancy—Ilene hadn't stopped taking contraceptives until she had received her Ph.D., been hired by Monarch, and felt ready to start a family—but not all contraceptives successfully prevented this spontaneous conception even when they prevented normal conception. They'd been living with this miraculous burden for hundreds of years that they knew of, perhaps thousands of years that they'd forgotten; they'd had a long time to observe, to speculate, to experiment, to puzzle out the limits and rules and exceptions, and to pass on their knowledge to their children.
There was some small comfort in the certainty of twin girls. Whether they wanted them or not, each Chen girl at least knew it would happen when she grew up, either to herself or to her sister; and every mother and aunt prepared every daughter and niece for the inevitability of either spontaneous daughters or the task of supporting one's sister through them.
But the consequences outweighed the comfort. For starters: 50/50 odds that the decision to become a mother would be completely out of their hands and control, and that it would start with two children at once. If one of them wasn't married by the time her mysterious pregnancy manifested, she risked local infamy; and even if the impact of the scandal was mitigated by the support she'd receive from her female relatives, it could follow her for years. If she wanted to avoid that, her only option was a shotgun marriage to whoever would agree, and it would have to be arranged quickly enough to pass off her pregnancy to the public as the result of her new husband; passing it off to him as his own was harder, and there were steep dangers in quickly marrying a near stranger who'd soon realize that his new bride had wed him already pregnant.
Having the twins inside an established marriage wasn't without danger either, because what if the new twins decided to conceive themselves a month their faux father was out of town? What if a husband had distinct enough physical features that he grew uneasy when his firstborn daughters were the spitting image of their mother but didn't have any looks in common with him?
What about more modern problems—what about how employers, especially more traditional ones, would look at an employee who began showing that she was with child but wasn't married? What about how employers in general looked down on the career potential of expectant mothers? What about how frustrating it was for an unmarried mother get healthcare and schooling for her children without paying exorbitant fees or producing their "father"—and if she brought in a fake boyfriend to play the father long enough to register the children, what did they do if, as so often was the case for births out of wedlock, they requested a DNA test to confirm that the man was related to the children?
These were issues that all of the adult Chens had turned over and over—either ones relevant in their own lives or ones they had wondered about on behalf of their ancestors. Ilene had tried to shield her daughters from them, but even Athena and Diana were vaguely aware of the fact that they'd been born in the United States mostly because of their mother's work, but partially because it was easier for children without fathers to get American social security cards than Chinese household registration records. None of these concerns were directly shared with Mothra; but they felt her stir through their old family knowledge all the same, her mind washing over their memories like the surf washing over their ankles.
I'm familiar with wedlock, Mothra thought, in a way that indicated a sort of vague theoretical knowledge not unlike how the average telemarketer who'd made the mistake of majoring in art history might be "familiar with" the concept of photosynthesis. I know that many human cultures value completing that ritual before reproducing. My representatives have usually been considered exceptions to that rule, though—their communities have considered their unique ability to reproduce independently something worthy of reverence. Yours did.
Huidie laughed bitterly. "Maybe it did, a millennium ago," she said. "We don't even know where that community was. Humans move and memories are short."
You don't know your home? Mothra asked, surprised.
At the word home, the seven of them thought of four completely different neighborhoods: three in Beijing and one in San Jose.
"All we have is a myth of the place we originally came from," Ling said.
It was one that had been passed down for generations, mothers to daughters, a fairy tale for three-year-olds to explain why almost all the girls in their family had twins when no one else did. Once a butterfly the size of a mountain cast its shadow over a small village and landed on a cliff overlooking the sea. Everyone in the village was terrified of the butterfly except for one young woman, who that night dreamed that she was the butterfly, traveling over the sea. When she woke up, she could hear singing that no one else could. She scaled the cliff and sang the song to the butterfly, who was so pleased she granted the woman twins, born only from the butterfly's blessing, as well as twins to all her descendants; and gifted the village with silk that could be woven into clothes strong enough to stop arrows, enough silk to fill a ship.
Affronted, Mothra thought, Butterfly?
"We've never written it down. We lost a few details over the centuries," Congdie said apologetically.
Ilene said, "I actually think the story cross-pollinated at some point with Zhuangzi's butterfly dream. 'I dreamed I was a butterfly, but when I woke up, I didn't know if I was a man dreaming I was a butterfly or if I'm a butterfly dreaming I'm a man.' The silk suggests that the story was originally about a silkworm moth. It's really quite fascinating—I've been trying to reverse-engineer our original story based on what other stories might have influenced it over time."
And it was a fine story for inside the family; but try it on a husband or a neighbor and expect to be called a liar, a lunatic, cursed, or worthy of exploratory medical examination.
So they'd kept it their family secret. Passed down orally from generation to generation, along with family anecdotes never written down, the private Chen mythology, the clever ways they lived with their unique biology.
Here a married and an unmarried sister who had switched places for almost a year when the unmarried one became pregnant, and a baffled husband who spoke of how his wife grew cold and distance during her first pregnancy, how her milk had stopped only two months after the births, and how her body had recovered so fast it looked like she'd never given birth at all.
There a younger brother taken into his older sisters' confidence who had been sent home in disgrace for "accidentally" destroying several imperial census records in the Yellow Register Archives through his "carelessness," erasing evidence of his own maternal ancestors in order to protect them from the possibility that some future governmental official might notice they produced twin girls not just three or four lucky generations in a row, but for centuries.
A twin who had children giving one to a sister who wanted a daughter and raising them from infancy as cousins rather than siblings. Women who claimed they felt, from hundreds of miles away, when something happened to their duplicates. Girls who woke up feeling as though they remembered a song they'd never heard before, to be told by their mothers and aunts and grandmothers and grandaunts that they knew the song too but had never sung it in the girls' lives.
"We've been trying to figure out where we came from for a long time," Congdie said. "Ma and her sister, my sister and I, my nieces... The only compass we've had is our myth."
Tao and Mei, sharing their mother's fear in the fifties that the Chinese Communist Party's attempts to eradicate folk religions would also eradicate anyone else's memories of the myth that explained their family, turned themselves from unambitious teenagers into untrained researchers. Mei traveled between rural communities collecting old local beliefs, even having her daughters on the road. When she married a man who was pleased to offer his services when she said the girls had no other father that wanted them and who didn't need to know more when she didn't want to say more, she simply brought him along on the road with her. Tao dug through papers and records hundreds of years old to try to pick out traces of their family farther back than their living memory could recall. She'd even found a point where their twin matrilineal line had branched at the tail end of the Ming dynasty when the sisters had been separated as teenagers and each had twin daughters; she'd lost these cousins' paper trail sometime in the 1850s, but thought their descendants might still be alive somewhere today. And with Monarch's assistance, as the state mounted pressure against folk religions and the people who championed them, they'd quietly left China with their families and their research to continue documenting folk religions in Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
(Ironically, they'd even made it to Infant Island, never knowing how close they'd come to finding out their past. The islanders, who over the past few centuries had grown justifiably wary of foreigners asking about their beliefs, had shown the Monarch agents to some interesting fossilized bones of what happened to be a Titanus gojira specimen, as a test to see what they'd do. When the first thing they did was start snapping pictures, the islanders had hastily explained that these days the population was half Muslim and half Hindu and really none of them remembered very much about their local folktales—did you say "Mosura" was the name the Dutch colonists had written down for this... yakshini? No, never heard of her, they must've named the wrong island—while a handful of kids were sent running into town to go hide their moth-wing-patterned wooden shields.)
Congdie, deeply impressed at five years old by the Godzilla bones and seeking physical proof of the "butterfly," had gone into paleontology, and to this day any college powerpoint presentation on insect fossils included an average of three photographs she herself had taken. Huidie, seeking the people who had invented the butterfly, had gone into archaeology, and was hailed by the CCP for rediscovering ancient human settlements that even China's long memory had forgotten and digging up temples that a generation earlier they'd tried to bury; together, they unearthed bones and buildings along half the east coast of Asia.
Ilene and Ling had both followed their grandmother into mythology, albeit in different directions: Ilene had climbed to the upper echelons of academia to study beliefs that stretched across the planet, spending her time in universities and libraries rather than small villages, hoping to either find parallels in other stories to their own or else find a new perspective that might give them a new avenue to search; and Ling had taken cues from both her grandmother and her aunt, traveling again through rural communities to seek local knowledge of prior cultures and using that to find old ruins and religious sites.
Their butterfly myth had even touched the lives of Ilene's daughters, from birth named for two famous foreign goddesses whose virtues she hoped they'd emulate: Athena whose most prized possessions were a dense book on Greek mythology with the pages describing her namesake earmarked, and a precious illustrated edition of Journey to the West (purchased in San Francisco's Chinatown before it was flattened by MUTOs) which she used to motivate herself in Chinese class; Diana who would look at entomologist Dr. Mancini's insect collection with Madison any time Ilene took her to work and who constantly drew self-portraits with insect wings (sometimes also sporting a Wonder Woman-esque costume and a "moth silk lariat").
And generation after generation, without meaning to and without trying to, their research brought them all to Monarch.
And at last, Monarch had brought them to Mothra.
She read the family's lives—between the seven of them, over a combined three centuries of experiences—in seconds, sifting through everything they'd ever known and ever been. I understand, Mothra thought. I'm sorry that I left your family for so long that you felt the need to search so diligently for me. It's sometimes difficult to wrap my mind around how short your lives are—or that you can't pass your memories on to your descendants as I do. I never intended for my gift to be such a burden.
"Well," Huidie said, "maybe I'll forgive you."
"You didn't even have twins," Congdie snipped, "you've got nothing you need to forgive."
"I can decide whether to forgive her on behalf of my family," she said grandly.
I can't remove my modifications from any grown humans, Mothra said, but when they become pregnant, I can change Athena and Diana's children so that they won't parthenogenetically produce twins, if you want.
"I think that decision should be up to them," Ilene said, putting a hand on each of their shoulders. She'd meant when they're old enough to worry about kids, but they each immediately voiced their opinions: "I don't want babies." "I want them to have dragonfly wings!"
I can't give humans dragonfly wings, Mothra thought.
Diana flung her hands up, as though to ask then what good are you?
"They'll think about it," Ilene said.
In the meantime—I can at least answer your questions about where you came from. Images filled their heads: a small fishing community that had popped up on the coast near a hill millennia ago; the hill concealing a subterranean hollow that held one of Mothra's buried eggs; a half dozen excited teens who'd abandoned their chores and ignored the warnings of their families in order to scramble up the hill and inspect the colossal moth; one girl, just a little bit more psychic than her neighbors, who had heard the song stuck in Mothra's head and sang it to her, and as a reward had won for herself and her village stewardship over Mothra's egg.
Ling gasped quietly, and Mei nodded; the hill had collapsed, the nearby flora had been replaced with a small town, and the shore was now a port, but they both recognized the landscape all the same. Ling had visited it to follow up on a myth Mei had recorded there fifty years earlier: a goddess had placed her baby in a cradle near the village and left it under the protection of two attendants, but under the cover of a furious storm, three white snakes had disguised themselves as bolts of lightning to sneak past the attendants and devour the baby. No butterflies in dreams, no girls that heard songs nobody else could hear. And yet it was part of the same story. Two different compasses pointing at the same truth from different directions.
If your family chooses to continue on as my representatives, I can ensure any of your descendants will be born knowing their history as well, Mothra thought, so no matter how many more generations pass, your family won't forget where you came from again. I wouldn't ask you to waste any more lives just trying to find your own past.
"My sister didn't consider her life wasted," Mei said firmly. "Neither do I. Nor do my daughters and granddaughters."
Mothra's mind brushed over the family's memories again, checking for the truth of Mei's proclamation. They'd all lived strange lives; but they'd also lived rich lives, glorious lives full of gods and monsters; and while none of them would have chosen to force such a life on every generation of their family for millennia, each of them would have gladly chosen this life for herself.
I'm glad.
###
Once Mothra and Godzilla had departed, the Chen family beat a hasty retreat before anyone could get close enough to identify them, managed to find two taxis that hadn't fled to the far side of the island at the titans' approach, and returned to their hotel for a late lunch.
As Ilene drilled her children on what they were not going to tell the other kids at school about what they'd done on summer break, and Congdie and Mei tried to talk Huidie into into touring the lava tunnel, Ling emailed Monarch about a small hill along the northeast coast of China that might have the remains of an ancient Mothra egg.
###
They'd traveled far enough that Mothra's mount's name had changed from Gesila to Gojila to Gojira—and soon any human names would cease to touch him at all—before she spoke to him. Do you ever stop to think about the huge impact even tiny actions can have on humans?
Gojira contemplated the question so long and so deeply it felt to Mothra like his brain was trying to form its own weather system. And then, after this prolonged moment of deep meditation, he said, "Nah."
Mothra rapped on his skull with her legs.
"All impacts are huge to something tiny," Gojira said. "Why? Do you?"
When I alter the way my future generations will be born, it's always just a slight tweak to me. I'm only stuck with it for a couple of centuries if it doesn't work out. Then I can declare the experiment a failure and go back to how things were,Mothra thought. But in humans, in the span of a couple of centuries, eight or nine generations can be born whose entire lives will be affected by a tiny tweak. And what about when I can't get back to them in a couple of centuries? What about when it takes millennia? If human society changes enough that what was once a boon becomes a burden...
Gojira considered that. "You can't help if humans change."
Perhaps I could help by not getting involved in the first place.
"How do you know that would help? Maybe what you gave them let their family survive millennia longer than it would have," Gojira said. "Every little thing everyone does permanently changes the future, right? We don't know how the little things now will affect big things millennia later. You just got to see a more obvious consequence of that than most of us do. Don't blame yourself for not predicting the future."
She rapped on his head again. When did you get so smart?
"After hanging out with you."
Still. She fell silent a moment, listening to the sound of the ocean. Straining to hear human ships in the distance. Wondering how their noise disturbed the future in ways she couldn't yet see. Still. I think I should be more careful with humans.
"You're already more careful with them than anybody else I know."
Maybe so; but nobody else Gojira knew was intimately, telepathically aware that, no matter how small and brief humans were, each and every one of them contained a whole, complete, sentient person. An entire brilliant vibrant life that flared and vanished as soon as it had ignited.
And yet they carried on anyway, their societies marching on in defiance of their finite timespans—the way one ember on dry wood could ignite five more could ignite fifty more, the way an inferno was just a billion tiny embers all together, pushing outward and consuming as it went.
Could she be certain she wouldn't smother a few embers by accident? Who was she to play with fire?
They continued silently swimming east.

She had made my whole experience at strawberry fields north amazing and helped me pick out the product I wanted! I recommend coming to this dispensary, from what I just personally experienced this past weekend I definitely give them a 10/10 would recommend rating! Their prices are awesome too compared to the street prices where I live, I do hope strawberry fields can expand their business, amazing products and great customer service to New Mexico, I am now a loyal customer. She greeted me with a beautiful smile and her personality was absolutely amazing. The second interaction made my whole weekend though, thanks to a lovely bud tender by the name of Harmony! On Sunday when I went in, I felt relaxed, not awkward at all like I have felt at some other previous dispensaries (NueVue pharma north) and I didn’t feel rushed at all. Its the perfect location to stop by, on the doorstep of Geelong. Me and my fiancé were visiting from New Mexico this past weekend for the Rocky Mountain Nationals, and out of the 3 dispensaries we were able to visit, this location was by far the best hands down! We went in on two separate occasions, once on Fri 6/25 and again on Sun 6/27.The first interaction was good, unfortunately didn’t get our budtenders name, he was a nice young man and was very helpful in choosing some edibles and cartridges for me and my fiancé, his attitude was awesome and he was patient. Our strawberry farm is a labour of love, nestled on 90 acres backing onto Thompson Creek. Extremely pleased with the staff at strawberry fields! ESPECIALLY BILL, BETH, and NICOLE! Once downloaded and setup, a quick scan of the digital ID and I was good to go in! Once inside, Nicole helped me with my purchases as was extremely kind and helpful.

For anyone in the same situation, download the M圜olorado app and use the digital ID from the app after setup. He went and spoke with the manager Beth and they both returned and were extremely helpful in finding a solution. He reviewed all my documents and the email from the department of revenue saying that I wouldn’t be reviewing a temp ID. When I walked in I explained to Bill (the security officer on duty) my situation. I decided to drive down to strawberry fields and give it a try as I live in Colorado Springs. Despite the department of revenue not issuing a temporary ID and having my payment receipt for the renewal, they just turn me away. I had previously went to another dispensary where I was flat out told that they couldn’t let me in.

My license recently expired and when I renewed it online I was informed that I would not be receiving a temporary ID. There’s also plenty of other things to do if you have time before your flight. Of course, Southend-on-Sea is famous for being one of London’s best places for a break on the seaside, Southend Pier (the longest pleasure pier in the world, no less!) and Southend Beach are historic and we feel so privileged to share in that history. Our restaurant is only a short five-minute drive from Southend Airport and only a 15-minute drive from Southend seafront – we’re a great spot halfway between the two, so you can grab a delicious meal wherever you’re going. It’s only about an hour from Central London, with great facilities and still so close to Southend’s scenic coastline. Handling over two million passengers in 2019, Southend Airport is one of the fastest growing and most convenient airports in the UK. Why we love Southend Airport and Southend-on-Sea

We offer up to three hours of free parking to people eating with us, perfect for a quick meal before a flight or filling up before heading to the beach. We have a big beer garden and a conservatory section, which you can book for special occasions. Our restaurant popped up in 1998 as a great halfway point between Southend Airport and Southend Beach. Our restaurant is named after the gorgeous strawberry fields that used to be around where we are now, and which some of us have fond memories picking when we were younger. During lockdown we supported local shelters to help the neediest in our community and we’re always on the lookout for volunteering opportunities. Our team are passionate about supporting the local community in Southend. We’re very lucky that so many of our team have been with us for over a decade now, they’re knowledgeable, friendly and great with kids. Our menus mix pub classics with mouth-watering special cut steaks, and we have a great selection of beers, fizzy drinks and everything in between to make your meal extra special. Whether you’re fuelling up for a long flight from Southend Airport, or you’re stopping over before a trip to Southend Beach, you’ve landed at the right spot with us at the Strawberry Field Beefeater.

California wildfires rage, killing at least nine and putting tens of thousands at risk
By Joel Achenbach, Katie Mettler, E. Aaron Williams and Lindsey Bever, Washington Post, November 10, 2018
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--California is on fire again, north and south, the flames deadly and swift, fanned by ferocious Santa Ana winds and fueled by dry tinder. The fires have killed at least nine people, immolated a mountain town and jangled the nerves of many tens of thousands of residents forced to evacuate their homes.
The fires have thus far proved to be unstoppable, operating at flash-flood velocity. The big wildfire here in Southern California, known as the Woolsey Fire, quadrupled in size Friday, covering more than 22 square miles, with no containment. It easily jumped eight-lane Highway 101 and rambled over the Santa Monica Mountains to posh Malibu, where it torched homes and cars. The wildfire then finally ran into its only match so far: the Pacific Ocean.
The bulletins from the northern part of the state were even worse. At least nine people died in or near their homes or vehicles as they tried to outrace the Camp Fire, which devastated the mountain town of Paradise, about 90 miles north of the state capital, Sacramento.
Paradise was anything but, with block after block of destruction, downed power lines, charred cars in the middle of roads, utility poles still smoldering and spot fires around the town, though there wasn’t much vegetation left to burn. Random buildings still stand in the town of 27,000, but for every edifice that survived, dozens that did not.
Marc Kessler, 55, a science teacher at one of Paradise’s middle schools, said the smoke was rising from the Sierra Nevada foothills when he arrived at work Thursday.
“The sky turned black; you couldn’t tell it was daytime,” he said. “It was raining black pieces of soot, coming down like a black snowstorm and starting fires everywhere. Within minutes, the town was engulfed.”
Kessler said authorities told teachers to forget seat belt laws and start piling the 200 or so students who showed up for class Thursday morning into the teachers’ personal vehicles. Some frantic parents showed up to get their children, he said, and bus drivers drove through flames to help save children’s lives.
Kessler said one of the students in his car said, “Oh, look at the moon!”
“I said, ‘That’s not the moon. That’s the sun,’ “ he recalled, his voice breaking. “There were times when there were flames near the vehicles. There were times when you couldn’t see through the smoke. Some of our teachers didn’t think they’d survive.”
About 23.4 million Californians were under red-flag warnings into Friday, and officials warned that flames could reach the city of Chico, a college town of more than 90,000 about six miles from Paradise. People scrambled to evacuate.
The Camp Fire had covered 110 square miles and was just 5 percent contained as of Friday, state officials said, warning that there might be additional deaths that they cannot confirm until they can safely enter smoldering neighborhoods. It is a terrifying situation for family members of residents who were last heard from when the town and others nearby were ordered evacuated.
“We didn’t have much time; it came too fast,” said Cory Nichols, a barber who fled his home in Paradise. “We were going to sell the house. Don’t have to now.”
California has experienced debilitating fires of unprecedented regularity in the past few years, many of them encroaching on towns and cities built up to the edges of forests in areas prone to wildfires. In August, the Mendocino Complex Fire became the largest wildfire ever recorded in the state, burning more than 400,000 acres. The previous record was set less than a year before, when the Thomas Fire burned through more than 280,000 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. In October 2017, some 21 wildfires burned nearly 95,000 acres and 7,000 buildings in Sonoma and Napa counties in the heart of California’s wine country, killing 40 people.
The California fire season normally begins in late spring and lasts through summer. But hot, dry weather has persisted this year well into autumn, and the winter rains have yet to arrive. The Santa Ana winds, which blow out of the Sierra Nevadas and toward the western coastline, are building into howling gales that dry the vegetation and the soil, creating potentially explosive fire conditions.
In Thousand Oaks, 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles, residents have endured a brutal week.
This city, cherished by its residents for clean air and low crime, already was in mourning after Wednesday night’s mass shooting at a country music bar. At a vigil downtown Thursday night, people had lit candles and pondered an unspeakable crime. Just hours later, the same area was choked in smoke and imperiled by the Woolsey Fire.
In the pre-dawn darkness, a gusty wind whipped American flags flying at half-staff in honor of the shooting victims. An orange glow could be seen throughout the city, sometimes leaping into bright flares along the ridgelines. Emergency bulletins buzzed cellphones in the middle of the night, sometimes urging evacuations.
“It’s dangerous to sleep all night,” said Sergio Figueroa, 34, who was dropping his wife off at a hotel where she works on Friday. Late Thursday and into the early hours Friday, he watched television, knowing his home was in the “voluntary” evacuation zone. He said he allowed himself one hour of shut-eye--but not actual sleep.
“You just close your eyes and stay alert,” he said.
At 3 a.m., streets normally empty at that hour were filled with parents, children and pets evacuating as the orange glow crept closer.
“Don’t wait too long. Get out when they tell you to get out,” said Uber driver Brent Young, 52, who was about to take a client from Thousand Oaks to the Los Angeles International Airport through a roundabout route that would circumvent closed freeways and dangerous conditions.
The problem was figuring out which way to go. There were fires in many places. Even before the Woolsey Fire kicked up, another wildfire, the Hill Fire, threatened homes west of town. Highway 101 was closed in both directions at various times for two different fires. The only thing inhibiting the Hill Fire was that it ran into the footprint of a 2013 fire and lacked fuel, officials said.
Longtime resident Peggy Smith, 64, was filling her gas tank at 4 a.m. Friday at a Mobil station in an area under voluntary evacuation. She said people began flocking to Thousand Oaks in the 1960s after airline pilots on the flight path into Los Angeles noticed that there was no smog here. The pilots moved in, and then police officers, and firefighters.
She was ready for the fire. She needed only 10 minutes to load her car with her favorite family photos, important documents, clothes and food.
“My son’s a fireman. I was married to a fireman. I’m not scared,” Smith said. “I have full faith in our fire departments.”
They were busy. The trucks rolled through neighborhoods and zoomed down Highway 101. People had fled, power was out, and the only light came from the fires.
“This is crazy,” said Paige Gordon, a real estate agent who was checking on a friend’s multimillion-dollar house in Westlake Village as flames devoured the parched brush. “We have all aspects of Ventura County on fire.”
As he turned on sprinklers in his friend’s backyard, an eruption of flame on the hillside caught his attention: “There’s the fire right there!”
Smoke loomed over Thousand Oaks like a thunderhead, the black cloud slowly advancing toward the sea as it crossed hills covered in blackened stubble.
In Malibu, film and television producer Ben Rosenblatt, 35, took one look at the approaching fire and knew he had to get out fast. He had just enough time to walk the dog first. There aren’t many ways in and out of Malibu, with the roads that wind up through the canyons impassable because of fire. That left the Pacific Coast Highway, where traffic moved at a crawl. The drive to Santa Monica should have taken him 35 minutes, but the navigation app on his phone said it would be 2 hours 35 minutes.
“It’s like a slow-motion race with massive fire clouds behind you and bumper-to-bumper traffic in front,” Rosenblatt said. “Think of any disaster movie you’ve seen where you’re trying to outrun the storm but it’s happening so slowly.”
Back in Thousand Oaks, the smoke would recede and then billow up again as a spot fire flared anew. At a teen center, set up as an evacuation site for those fleeing the fires, people became nervous when they saw flames on a nearby hillside.
In the parking lot, people slept in their cars beside their cats and dogs, their belongings packed in the back.
Mary Leighton, 57, of West Lake, had just gone to bed Thursday night when her brother heard on the news that they needed to evacuate.
“You think, ‘What do you take?’ “ She said. “My mind went blank.”
Five minutes later, carrying her husband’s ashes and her cat, Pumpkin, she and her family were gone. They slept in a shelter overnight and woke Friday morning to news that homes in their neighborhood had burned. Leighton didn’t know whether her home survived.

Town Versus Big Urban Area.
A land of a lot of shades and also cultures, Malaysia is the optimal vacation place. ( Some time I'll need to repair that!) If you wish to browse through some other locations of the stream and also don't possess access to a personal watercraft you can easily call one of the various cruise companies that cruise on the Hudson; some providers focus on the northern points, while others sail the southern regions of the Hudson.03 Also the little flavor of record your quick guide will certainly expose you to on a Venice strolling scenic tour is going to give you a valuable start. As I said in a previous post, you shouldn’t visit Bali thinking about the beaches, if you want great beaches, look at other Indonesian islands or even other countries in southern Asia. Said that what a better place to be than a city that doesn’t have a coastline, and is really well located to visit the best places around the island of Bali.
I’ve found that Ubud offers the best location, great and affordable accommodation and abundant vegan food options. Out of all the cities in Bali, Ubud is the best, not because is the most authentic one (far from that) but because it has good quality affordable touristic infrastructures in a perfect location to do days out to other places in the island. Within relatively short driving distances you have temples, museums, mountains, waterfalls, rice terraces, and many other natural sights.
The downside of Ubud is that feels a bit like the city is entirely set up to tourists, unfortunately, most places in Bali that offers good/affordable accommodation nowadays are like that. Although I still found that Ubud offered a good middle ground between touristic and local.
About Ubud
Ubud is located in the Gianyar region of Bali and is surrounded by lush rice paddies, and is one of the cultural centers of Bali. Ubud is extremely popular among tourists and a hub of yoga, spas and, vegan food.
Ubud like the rest of the island of Bali is a multi-religious place, but the predominant religion is Hinduism, called Agama Hindu Dharma, a blend of Shivaism and Buddhism. Their religion is a world apart from the Hindu religion in India. Ubud, like the rest of Bali, is home to countless temples, and their everyday life is inextricably intertwined with colorful and fascinating religious practices.
Bahasa is the language spoken and the currency used is the Rupiah ($1=Rp.14.800)
I have spent 10 days exploring the island of Bali, always based in Ubud, I had a motorbike to go to different places every day. Please be aware that I don’t advise in any way that you rent a motorbike there if you don’t have experience, Bali, its not the place to learn how to ride one. I never ever seen so many people with motorbike injuries during my travels like I saw in Bali. Road conditions are rough and traffic a nightmare, on top of that there are no rules…
Out of the 10 days only two were actually spent in Ubud, what I think is more than enough if you are not planning to do anything special like a yoga retreat or a course. So here are the top things to do in Ubud
At the end of the post check also what to avoid 🙂
What to do in Ubud
Campuhan Ridge Walk (8.5km, ~3h/4h)
This place is a serene and beautiful green path for an easy hike early morning, the path starts at the Campuhan Bridge and has an amazing view of the jungle, rice paddy fields, small villages, communities, temples, and passes over the lush river valley of Sungai Wos.
This is worth waking up early for, you can go any time during the day but it does get hot and crowded, at least the first part of the path.
The Puri Saren Agungis – Ubud Royal Palace
It’s far for being a spectacular place but is the hub of all of Ubud’s cultural events. The entrance is free.
Saraswati Temple (Water Palace)
Its one of the most beautiful temple in central Ubud with a great little walkway in between lotus ponds leading up to the temple. The Saraswati Temple is a Hindu temple built in the 19th century to adore the Goddess Saraswati (The Goddess of Knowledge).
Jalan Goutama
It’s a road packed with organic everything, from restaurants, bars, cafes, ice-cream shops, etc. and has lots of local warungs serving cheap and delicious food. Here you will find restaurants for all tastes, budgets and, diets.
Jl. Kajeng
A road with messages written into the street paving. It’s really nice to stroll up here and read the message of peace, love and ‘vegan propaganda’.
Ubud Market
The market is a great place to stroll around. If you go very early in the morning (what I recommend) you can visit the produce market in the far south-east corner, and this is as authentic as it gets (7h-10h). Later on, you only have souvenir stalls, with clothes, homewares, jewelry, and other miscellaneous bits and pieces. Prices are always fully negotiable.
Watch a movie at Paradiso Ubud
Paradiso Ubud is the world’s first organic vegan cinema and definitely worth a try! There are daily movie screenings and the food is delicious.
Food
Balinese food is delicious, and anywhere you go in Ubud there will be delicious vegan options on the menu.
Ubud is blessed with an abundance of great eateries, although menus are a little pricey compared to the rest of Indonesia if you don’t scuffle around backstreets. Local warungs or Padang rumah makan (eating house) are great options.
Massage
There is a tonne of little spas lining the roads in the center of Ubud with very reasonable prices. Why not treat yourself with a full body Balinese massage? You can find prices as lower as RP70.000 to 100.00 ($4.70 – $6.80) for one hour massage.
Wander around
This is true for any place you visit, stroll around without a plan or a schedule, and lose yourself through narrow streets.. Because Bali is a predominantly Hindu island, there is always something to see, experience and smell.. for example, each morning you will find hundreds of little boxes called Canang Sari filled with flowers, offerings and burning incense.
Unfortunately, there is also a downside here, Ubud has Jammed traffic from vehicles and pedestrians, severely uneven, damaged and broken sidewalks, broken drainage holes with jagged metal bars, sidewalk vendors, shop displays and sometimes even motorbikes. So you are guessing correctly, walking can be a challenge that requires energy and art.
Motorbike around the Ubud countryside
Bali is a small island, so renting a motorbike gives you the freedom and access to explore the Balinese countryside. On your way to places is easy to stumble upon local festivals, cremation ceremonies, pass by beautiful structures of intricately-carved stone, people flying kites in the fields, beautiful rice paddies, waterfalls, mountains, markets, temples…
⛔️ what to Avoid in Ubud
Sacred Monkey Forest
This is considered a must-do for many, for me is a must not. You do not need to pay to go to a jungle and to see macaques in Southeast Asia, literally you can do it everywhere, for free and without the crowds.
Plus these monkeys are not as cute as they look in the pictures they can be scary aggressive. If you are still planning a visit don’t take anything with you that you aren’t prepared to lose, monkeys can open bags with ease and are professional thieves. They are well trained at efficiently robbing tourists.
I know I’m just telling you to avoid one of the most popular Ubud attractions, but trust me on this one.
Shopping
Well maybe I’m a bit suspect on this one because to be fair I don’t shop, I’m already carrying my small bag around with me, and the last thing I need is extra weight 🙂 plus Ubud is extremely expensive (for Indonesian standards) you will find the same things much much cheaper somewhere else.
If you are into shopping go to the market but be prepared to haggle. Even if you don’t want to do any shopping I still think that you should give the market a visit but early in the morning, because by afternoon it gets seriously crowded.
Don’t buy spices or coffee on the market, most of it is fake.
Sungai Ayung Valley (6.5km ~4h)
This was sposed to be a great trekking through the lush, tropical river valley but sadly has become an extortion scheme.
When you arrive at the Sayan Terrace hotel, you take the path downhill, there you will find some locals that are blocking the passage with a gate and you can only pass through if you pay RP.150.000 ($10) per person. We refused to pay and they didn’t allow us to pass. So we headed up the hill and we did a different trekking around the same area but instead of the 6.5km took us 15km 🙂
Be aware that the locals carry large sickles or machetes (that they are not using as farming tools) but for the threatening effect.
how to get to Ubud
If you arrive by air, the best option is unfortunately to take a taxi. As you know is always hard to negotiate taxi fares so it’s probably best to have that arrangement done in advance. Most places in Ubud will offer that service, negotiate with them and skip the hassle at the airport in Denpasar.
In August 2018 the taxi fares from Denpasar to Ubud were around RP. 250.000 to RP. 350.000 ($17-$23)
Just get ready for a very slow ride from Denpasar to Ubud, the traffic is just unbelievable. Ubud is about the same distance and time from the nearest port, where boats go to Gili Islands and Lombok.
Where to Stay
My suggestion is to stay close to the center, in a place that includes breakfast, offers transfer and that rents motorbike, this will prevent that you get in one of those motorbikes scams. Ubud has plenty of options with a great relation between quality and price. Make some research and look at the reviews.
I stayed in a great central place, and still in a quiet street. The family was really nice and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, and the price excellent, $8 per night with breakfast (I’m happy to pass the name of the place if you want).
Extra notes
To visit temples, you must be dressed appropriately which includes wearing a sarong, that is basically a long piece of cloth that you wear wrapped around the body and tucked at the waist. Just bring one from home so you don’t need to buy or rent one.
Small temples are all around the city and each temple is unique in its own way.
Don’t buy water bottles, Bali has a project for water refills. Download the app and find the closest location. Ubud has several places offering this service for free or for a small fee (https://www.refillmybottle.com).
Indonesia is an affordable place to travel but especially in Bali, you need to be extra careful to not spend more than you budgeted. Prices offered to tourists are always inflated and haggling is the only option to bring it within reason.
ATMs can be found easily throughout Ubud.

ITALY
Wow. It’s hard to sum up the last 2 months. We actually walked the Via Francigena. From Gran San Bernard pass in Switzerland all the way to Rome. 1,100 kilometers. A couple fabulous detours thrown in as well - had to see Cinque Terre and Firenze. Our Alaska buddy / brother joined us for a big portion of it and he was a blast. First time in Europe so literally everything was new to Mike. And he appreciated everything which added to our experience.
We fell completely in love with all things Italy. The people were almost without exception delightful and kind (I can really only recall a couple interactions that were- let’s say, subpar. The country is beautiful. Amazing cities. Mountains, coastline, rolling hills - it’s a beautiful place. Oh and the food - it truly is delicious everywhere. From the simple food at a take out to nice restaurants- it’s all very, very tasty. Their idea of fast food is a porchetta sandwich- if you know, you know. If not - I’m not going to attempt to describe one. You’ll just have to go get one.
Renting the car in Rome to explore our part of Italy- the Deep South, where both our grandparents came from was a perfect experience. The towns we discovered were interesting and gorgeous. Every day held at least one beautiful surprise.
This one was a hard walk. Perhaps because we’re 3 years older than the last long walk. Probably we were not in the best of shape to start out - neither of us were spared the covid 19 weight gain - but what a gift the Via is. Though it’s a centuries old pilgrimage, the walk as an organization is only about 30 years old. They are working hard to get pilgrim hostels up and running. The trail is very well marked. The App we used was / is fabulous. For those of you that like this sort of thing ( one of the Camino’s in Spain for instance) we readily recommend this adventure. Walking into St Peter’s Square at the Vatican after 40 days was a remarkable and emotional experience. Every day was perfect. Even the rough ones.

Since last time...
A lot has happened since my last post meaning there is a lot to cover and it is likely that I will miss out a few things although I will try my best to fill in the gaps. Starting off with what happened over the break.
Over the break there were several things going on at once Liam and Leo continuing to develop the MVP as well as the web app which are both now starting to come together nicely. In the meantime, Adam and I focused on formulating and revising our entry for the second stage of X challenge the Accelerator. While being part of the competition much of what we have written will become our conceptual statement for studio and rephrased for the context.
This proved to be a useful exercise as it forced us to find a way of articulating our concept and what we are hoping to achieve with this project. In our week 7 critique it was noted that it was time for us to find where we position ourselves. What was asked of us in the formulation of the business proposal has really helped with this. Essentially allowing us to cap off the first half of the project which focused on concept development.
During the break to validate and prototype Pilgrims other potential applications that extend past surfing, we ran a small scale beach clean up with Sustainable Coastlines. The aim to get as many people to one location in as few cars as possible at as little cost for all of those involved through a sustainable means of transport.
What we were hoping to show through this event is that there is a void that Pilgrim can fill. Communities of like-minded people already exist and therefore our role is simple, to extend the scale and scope of the connections within these communities. We achieved this using our existing Facebook community, this Closed group has been created to hear opinions on features and ideas, build the community, and begin our pilgrimage. It is an opportunity for those we are designing for to be a part of the Pilgrim story, and to help create a platform that works for them.
For this event, we managed to secure two small sponsorships with Coffee Supreme and Mexicali fresh who provided food and beverages on the day. This not only help feed the hunger and thirst of those who attended but provided an example of the kinds of partnerships we would hope to secure on the future of Pilgrim. Brands that feature within a similar space as Pilgrim yet are not in direct competition. The idea being that these brands could one day become advertised within our map and feature within cores elements of our user experience. For instance, cafes supplied by Coffee supreme could be advertised on our map that users could then add into their journey map. There’s are a few other ideas in the works presented on our business plan however I won’t go into too much detail about these as they are not totally relevant for studio.
Overall the day proved to be helpful in proving Pilgrim as a concept while we didn’t explicitly ask for feedback form those who attended we have been asked numerous times when the next one will be with those who missed out looking to seek an opportunity to join in on the next one.
Since the break we have been working on developing content for our web as well as social media accounts which make up a huge part of our brands identity. While continue to develop our branding the biggest part of our brands identity will come from the kind of content we produce, what we surround ourselves by and align ourselves with. Hopefully you can see that everything we have done so far has been working towards developing this identity.
This week has seen us starting to think more about the physical studio submission and the best methods to present Pilgrim. I feel that as a team we are really working well together within our varying roles with the dynamic proving to allow for a consistent work flow. There is a lot more I would love to say but I think I will leave it at that for now. I did think about posting our X Challenge submission however I feel that this is something that shouldn’t be public at this stage for IP reasons.

Ezekiel 27:1-28:26, Hebrews 11:17-31, Psalm 111:1-10, Proverbs 27:15-16
Today is the 13th day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a joy and an honor and a privilege to be here with you today around the Global Campfire as we take the next step forward, that next step will lead us back into Ezekiel. We have been camping out in Ezekiel for a little bit working our way through. It will also lead us into the letter to the Hebrews where we began to speak about faith and I began to walk down the hall of faith yesterday, we’ll conclude that journey today. But first, Ezekiel chapters 27 and 28.
Prayer:
Father, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for another week. They pass by and we keep moving forward. But we like to take this opportunity to look back and thank You, You, every week, every week You speak to us through the Scriptures. Every week we learn and grow. Sometimes we get clarity and direction for the path ahead. Sometimes we just get wisdom that is gonna grow and cultivate inside of us and be valuable. Sometimes we get knowledge and understanding of the trajectory, of the way that our faith grew and evolved over time as You lead Your people, our spiritual ancestors. We are grateful for all of it, we thank You for all of it. We thank that it gives us an anchor point in the fog of life. Sometimes things can be confusing. We have a gift and its tangible, we can see it, we can hold it, we can touch it and yet to really immerse ourselves into it, it has to go with in us and transform us and that has been happening every day of this year and so, now we can look back and see what a shift, how things can change in the way that we view them when we immerse ourselves in Your word and yield ourselves to the guidance of Your Spirit. So, come, Holy Spirit, we yield ourselves to You and ask for Your direction and clarity in the days ahead. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Announcements:
dailyaudiobible.com that's home base, that’s well, that’s a website. If you had never heard of those things, it's kind of new, but that's the website that's where you find out what’s going on around here. If you're using the Daily Audio Bible, you can find out what's going on around here within the app by pushing the drawer icon in the upper left-hand corner and what is going on around here is the release of a brand-new resource that we’re so excited about, so excited about this one: Promised Land, Photographs from the Land of the Bible. A project that was long time coming but is now here and is truly gorgeous. A beautiful coffee table book. It's like 12 x 12 12" x 12" like I was saying the other day. That's the equivalent of like album jacket for vinyl album a really good size for sitting there on the coffee table. It's just a beautiful piece. We went for it. We used only the finest materials in the manufacturing and it's something that's gonna hold up, it’s a really beautiful art piece. So, you can check that out at dailyaudiobible.com in the Shop, there's categories in the Shop, a number of different categories. You can find this in books and audiobooks or you can also find this in the lifestyle section. Check it out, its mission is to bring the places where the Bible happened near and to present these locations creatively and beautifully because indeed it is a very beautiful land of very, very diverse land. There’s just kind of flipping through Promised Land, you can realize the diversity of the land. It might not be quite as apparent that it's a very, very small nation. So, I live here in the United States of America in the rolling hills of Tennessee. But this is a vast land so we have these rolling hills but we also have the high mountain peaks and deep and barren deserts and beautiful coastlines. We have a great amount of diversity. Geographically in this country. Israel is pretty much just as diverse, but packed into a small area like one of the smallest of the United States. Then so if, if I wanted to get to the desert from here in the rolling hills of Tennessee, I would neither or either need to drive a couple of days or get on a plane and fly out to the desert. Whereas in Israel, things are much more compact so we try to capture the diversity of the land and the beauty of the places where the Bible happened and this resource is available now.
If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, thank you, humbly we would not be here if we’re not in this together. So, thank you, humbly, there is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the app you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996 Springhill, Tennessee 37174.
And of course, if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can hit the Hotline button in the app or you can dial 877-942-4253.
And that's it for today. I'm Brian. I love you and I'll be waiting for you here tomorrow.
Prayer and Encouragements:
Hey, this is a message for Terry who calls himself The Guy in Prison. Terry, I want you to know I just prayed a prayer for you and I’m gonna say it on this podcast. You are a new creation, Christ Jesus. The old has gone, the new has come. He has given you a new name, you are a son of a most high God. Also, I am praying in the name of Jesus for protection that God will bring other Christians who are in the place where you are, like magnets together. I am praying that you, in the name of Jesus, you all will become a hedge of protection for each other, that you will begin to pray together and love each other as you follow the Jesus way. I pray Terry, in the name of Jesus, for God's blessing, mercy, grace over you. I pray Terry, that you will become a force for good, a force for love, a force for peace and that will emanate like that aroma of Christ from you and around you and when you walk into the room you have the power to change the atmosphere in the name of Jesus because Jesus lives in your heart. I lift you up Terry, and I pray that God will bring other people into your life who are in the prison as well to lift you up and to encourage you in the name of Jesus. I thank You God that Terry is fearfully and wonderfully made. I thank You Lord God, that You are blessing him to claim his new identity in you. He is a son of the most high God, he is renewed, redeemed and restored. And Terry you are free and one day soon, in the name of Jesus I pray, sooner than you expect, you will be free indeed, physically, and able to move on with your life, in the name of Jesus. Trust and know that you are loved in the name of Jesus I pray the things. Amen.
This prayer is for Tammy from the Adirondacks. I heard your prayer request yesterday about your husband and the health struggles he's facing, the depression, and especially now the depression that you're facing after surgery. My heart just really want to you and so this is Daniel from Michigan, actually I really liked your handle so I’m gonna say Daniel from the Great Lakes and I just wanted to encourage you and I wanted to encourage you today, to tell you that, that you are loved, that God loves you and that's my prayer for you today that that prayer from Ephesians where Paul's praying that he wishes above all else, that we would know the height, depth, breath or I should just say the vastness of God's love and that's my prayer for you today that you would know His love and that you would be empowered by the Holy Spirit and with strength to fight and face the battle that you are and I pray for healing for both of you in Jesus name, Amen.
Hey my beautiful DAB fam, this is Kingdom Seeker Daniel. Family, I want to hold up our first family here at the DAB, Pastor Brian and Lady Jill. I've been thinking about them since I heard a caller a while, a while back mention that we need to be praying for them and then on yesterday Lady Jill was out from the reading due to some kind of something, I don’t remember what it was but she wasn’t well. And it really brought back to my mind of how important it is for us to cover our first family here at the DAB. So, that's what I want to do family, can we all gather around the Global Campfire and hold them up. Come on, let’s pray. Father, we thank You and we praise You for the leaders, Your servants, that You have raised up for such a time as this: Pastor Brian Hardin and Lady Jill. God, I ask that You would strengthen them in the inner man. O God, would You cause them to feel healing virtue flowing in their bodies from the crown of their head, to the soles of their feet. I ask God, that You would preserve their health, that You preserve their strength, that You would touch their vocal cords, touch their vital organs, their lungs and all the major components that make up their physical being. Lord, we speak healing to the house, we speak peace to their dwelling place, we pray that You would strengthen them, that You would let Your angels be encamped around about them all the days of their lives. We thank You for their sacrifice. And we pray that they would feel Your strength even now, coming into their little bones, in their bloodstream, in every part of who they are, cover them. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. We love you Pastor Brian and Lady Jill. Bless you guys.
Hi, happy Wednesday. Today is November 10th. This is Shawna calling. First, I wanna say Brian’s reading about how we don’t have to carry everything by ourselves just being apart of this Daily Audio Bible family, just hearing, not only the words but hearing the words of encouragement and the prayer requests just gives ___ for everyone and saying that I wanted to bless everyone for prayer. For some reason, my level of trust and anxiety is just like, I really can’t describe but I would ask that you all would please keep me in prayer. And I would just continue to change my perspective and look at God for who He is and trust Him for who He is. I’ve trusted Him before in the past but because I’ve been so overburdened by so many things, the cares and all the souls going in and around me it’s causing me to look at them more then look at God and what He is capable of doing. Thank you all, I love you guys, thank you, bye.
Hey, it’s Shannon from Texas and I need some more prayer. I am realizing that my, all these strange things that are happening, I’ve known this for a while and it’s happening, it’s been like an attack. Mostly it’s been on my ability but also on my ministry and I’m just determined to press through and I’m doing like a month of November every morning prayer and I’m just gonna pray my way, press my way through no matter what. And it’s been a strong attack but God is stronger. And I will have victory. But what I’m dealing with right now, so you can pray, is my son, who got out of rehab, I’ve called in for 2015, and I called the other day just about the abuse cause that’s really set me so much back, I’m trying not to get emotional but I can’t that I didn’t go to work, I just didn’t show up. So, I think that might be bit much. And it’s just really hard on me, people know what it does to your spirit. It’s destructive. But I just have been going through so much lately that I just shut down. And I just could not do it, it’s a really far drive, it’s just like, I feel like I’m just being tossed to and fro. But what I need prayers for is my son is still kinda not real good right now. He’s kinda texting me about a car and I just need the Lord’s intervention and I just need prayer and I love you guys. And love you, love you, bye.

Precisely what Same Intercourse Dating on Bumble certainly Like

Precisely what Same Intercourse Dating on Bumble certainly Like
In short-span of 36 months, Alex, a 25-year-old brand new Yorker, has watched going out with programs evolve and alter — “especially about females trying girls.”
“When I first moving,” she explained to me of her web same-sex a relationship experience, “Tinder had been the most important thing. Right now, into the stage that I’m in, Bumble’s the socially acceptable selection. It’s stabilized.”
Bumble disrupted the antiquated a relationship average of male induction among heterosexual swipers in the event it founded in 2014. By nature of Bumble’s build, women get the very first transfer; those to the receiving stop posses twenty four hours to respond or a match runs out. For same-sex-seeking individuals, it’s dating-app businesses as always.
“Approximately 15percent of owners are those whom look for the equivalent intercourse; ten percent of female individuals seek same-sex suits or both female and male matches,” Alexandra Williamson, VP of brand name articles at Bumble said. “From what we’ve spotted, same sex-users [who discover as feminine] are generally equally as engaged as heterosexual suits
, since both in of the joints women can be putting some initial transfer.”
Alex, plus two other ladies I communicated to because of it facts (Liz, a 31-year-old surviving in Portland, Ore. and Rachel, a 27-year-old NYC homeowner) all mentioned Bumble’s time frame as a catalyst for debate.
“we typically contact men and women because I dislike if my friends are exactly like, ‘this individual should communicate me,’” stated Rachel. “I’ll ask, ‘Are we potentially interested? After That talk about things!’ I’ve obtained idle with that personally along with other apps, nevertheless, so I like this Bumble provides the effort pressure level.”
“I don’t like issues,” mentioned Liz. “In real life, we trigger every little thing up to the idea that the opponent demands me up. But talk about I was at a party and that I decided some body am remarkably attractive — I’d make out an easy way to speak to her before I kept.”
it is not simply the full time that expires, though. It’s the actual fits. I was told various days your pool try littler as soon as you’re lady in search of a lady on Bumble — or dating software as a whole. It’s some thing I’ve listened to my friends that seek out same-sex meets grumble about usually.
“My directly roommate has reach his own ‘maximum likes during the day’ on Tinder,” Liz said. “His experience is definitely 1000 % completely different from mine.”
Alex, that turned the woman methods to feature men once in a while, said, “It’s so much easier meet up with men. Can be found 15 matches in moments. And I also never seen the the exact same dude double. I’ve seen the exact same 20 girls a lot of period. It’s fatiguing.”
In addition, it is determined by who you check with. Rachel, a reasonably brand new Bumble individual, has watched most lady attempting people on Bumble than on Hinge your group, just where she becomes “a lot of overlap [of the exact same person].”
All concurred that there are folks they legally determine attractive on Bumble. And while three girls don’t precisely lead to a big design, the two confirmed your trolling commonly related to directly boys on Tinder isn’t a challenge they’ve seen one of the group of women wanting various other people.
“It’s normally presumed that everyone’s in search of a gf on Bumble,” Alex informed me. “Or which you have down a connection. If you’re on there and never wanting a girlfriend, that could be looked at negatively.” She’s utilized the software flippantly in the past, to date amusement to discover who’s around, though she noted, “People take it rather significantly. It’s definitely not considered a hook-up app.”
Interestingly, Alex offers fulfilled an international circle of men and women through Bumble. She’ll sign on while in an innovative new location — whether a state or a different country — and see folks to have fun with. (in spite of the through, she explained there’s a mutual understanding once you’re vacationing so long as you are direct over it. I’m sure you’re ready to spotted this bio before: “in the city for just a few days trying to find awesome folks to chill with.”) She mentioned she’d never use a gay pub in a different state by yourself and struck on somebody, but she’s had plenty contacts utilizing the app. “There’s not enough sexual pressure level or outlook [on it].”
Though she’s received prosperous app-dates before, Liz doesn’t trust she’s likely to get a hold of a substantial connection on internet dating programs. “One things applications carry out supply you with,” she claimed, “is a powerful way to notice who’s actually available to choose from. Town for girls is definitely awesome smaller in Portland. I believe like I’ve currently fulfilled anyone that i’d truly meeting.” Software like Bumble increase the spectrum.
“I experienced my pals get on my own Bumble levels on the weekend which was really a lot of fun,” said Rachel. “Until they noticed that we unintentionally put a CHEESY AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM on one of my own pictures nevertheless one thing about going to the coastline. And so I have blasted my life, but no one knows. Apart From That, utilizing Bumble to meet women proceeding pretty well.”

UNDERSTANDING AIR QUALITY DATA DURING MONSOON SEASON
In many Countries, the monsoon has a significant impact on air quality. Whereas air pollution causes may be man-made (industrial activity & car traffic) or natural (bushfires & pollen), the way we perceive the weather heavily influences air quality data. The weather may either be a friend, clearing pollutants and improving air quality, and sometimes it’s an enemy, helping to produce pockets of extremely polluted air or spreading wildfire smoke, making air pollution much worse.
Because the obvious effect of weather affects air quality api data, our team utilizes this data (along with various other data sources) to properly calculate and forecast air pollution (real-time & forecast).
Wind & air pollution
Wind may assist to ‘clear the air by dispersing pollutants rather than enabling them to concentrate or build up in urban areas. Pollutants, including dust particles, may collect in stagnant air, resulting in poor air quality. Cities near coastlines may occasionally get an advantage in this manner if the wind brings in cleaner air from the sea.
Wind, however, may be a double-edged weapon whenever it comes to high pollution. In other instances, the impact of wind is to bring new contaminants to your region while also assisting in the spread of air pollution from afar.
In the case of fast-expanding bushfires, this is often the case. The wind was a major factor in the California fires & smoke spreading thus far in the July of 2019. Warm winds, known as the Diablo or Santa Ana Winds, often blow along the West Coast of America and Mexico at this time of year. During fire season, dry, warm weather coupled with strong winds may provide ideal circumstances for air pollution to spread, affecting individuals even if they are not near the fire (Jain et al., 2020).
Weather & air quality
We’ve seen how weather affects air pollution; however new study indicates that the relationship also works the opposite way. Because particle aerosols like dust & ash help disperse sunlight, air pollution may affect the quantity of sunlight that reaches the Earth.
Because of the tight relationship between weather and air quality data, we’re seeing weather providers like WeatherBug turn to us for accurate air quality needed data to educate their clients and improve their overall product offering effectively.
However, data on air quality over the past two years indicates that monsoon air pollution levels are still considerably higher than the World Health Organization’s recommended limits (WHO). Even though monsoon air is healthier than air in other seasons, air pollution levels are still higher than what is deemed acceptable, posing a health concern to the population. The monsoon is famously difficult to forecast, and many elements of monsoon dynamics, from the start through development and decline, are very little known and reflected in model simulations (Shahid et al., 2019).
Rain may spoil a picnic, but it may be beneficial to air pollution. This is because most of the typical air pollutants & pollen throughout the air are wiped away during rainy days, helping to improve air quality. Wet deposition is the term for this phenomenon.
To be more technical, ‘wet deposition’ depends on the natural operations through which heat is deposited (‘scavenged’) and brought to the Planet’s crust by air hydrometeors (cloud or fog droplets, rain, snow). Various names, such as ‘precipitation scavenging,’ ‘wet removal,’ ‘washout,’ and ‘rainout,’ are used interchangeably to describe this process (Jayamurugan et al., 2013).
Consequently, getting daily steps in on gloomy and chilly days may be particularly essential, especially given the significance of exercise for health.
To illustrate how ‘washout’ works in action, compare how air pollution levels decreased in the following areas when it was raining to typical recorded levels.
Seasonal variation of air
Air pollution varies seasonally due to several reasons. For one thing, post-monsoon and winter wind speeds are lower, and air tends to collect at lower altitudes without mixing, causing pollutants to persist. Furthermore, greater emissions are seen throughout certain seasons, particularly during holidays like Diwali & New Year, where fireworks cause pollution. Post-harvest burning pollutes the air in winter and early summer, particularly in Delhi, which gets particle pollutants from burning agricultural waste.
However, it’s critical not to lose track of the larger picture. Even the “reasonably good” “During the monsoon, the air quality is hazardous to one’s health. It is merely “hygienic.” “When contrasted to the polluted winter or post-monsoon air, it’s not quite as pure as it has to be called healthy. Summer and monsoon air quality may not cause acute symptoms such as worsening shortness of breath, asthma, sore throat, headaches, or blocked lungs that are prevalent during winter & post-monsoon air quality, but long-term exposure to sunlight containing PM 2.5 over 25 g/m3 has much greater consequences (Mahmood et al., 2018). Asthma, stroke, neurological system damage, high blood pressure, renal damage, lung and other kinds of cancer, and even poor cognitive functioning are among them.
Protection from air pollution
What can one do to defend themselves against pollution in the air? People may use apps like Plume Labs’ or AQIcn.org to find out how hazardous their air is. These applications may also suggest times of day when recreational activities, particularly exercise, are most appropriate.
While feasible, use an N95- or N99-certified mask (effective against particulate matter by 95% and 99%, respectively) to minimize exposure, which is particularly essential when spending time outside in traffic or exercising. If rooms are properly sealed from outside air, air purifiers with high-efficiency particulate air filters may offer protection inside. The research on outside air indicates that we should take these measures all year. Taking precautions just during the winter, whenever the air is filthy, may not be sufficient to prevent long-term health hazards.
