thinking recently about how Z-one kind of....forcefully imposed loneliness upon the other Iliaster Stars of Destruction, upon His Own Family Effectively, and it’s making me agoniiiiizeeeee
Paradox? Z-one sent him off on his mission alone, no backup, no support, and that was the end of it. Didn’t even bat an eye when he didn’t come back, when he died at the hands of a trio of newly formed friends ‘til the end.
Antinomy? Z-one wiped his memory to slow Iliaster’s own progress, in the process locking away another lifetime’s worth of connections and bonds. Like. You wonder if he didn’t have his accident and get Brunofied and end up becoming such a vital member of Team 5D’s, if he potentially would’ve just been doomed to a sort of listless loneliness, stuck on the sidelines helping Yusei evolve but never close enough to form a true and timeline shifting friendship.
Aporia? Z-one split him up into three parts, sure, but then all three Emperors didn’t even get to initially keep the memory of being one, or of their friendship with Z-one--he made himself their God and made themselves their only allies and yeah Aporia asked to be split up but he didn’t ask for That. And then also the embodiments Fucking Hated Each Other. And Bickered. And Fought. And Could Barely Be in the Same Room Together Without Some Shit Happening. Which somehow feels even MORE lonely than if it was just one guy by himself.
Yugioh is very good at writing lonely characters, and Z-one is just....so especially miserable and lonely and has been for So, So Long that he radiates it off of himself and (whether a conscious choice or not) has to make his closest loved ones feel the same isolation in the work they do to save the future. God is alone and if you loved him you he’ll make it so you’ll be too. AUGH. EXPLODES.
