A Roman Tiny Tortoise Figurine Found in England
In July last year, a small Roman copper alloy tortoise or turtle figurine was discovered by metal detectors near the village of Wickham Skeith in Suffolk, England.
There is no exact date, but experts date it to the early 2nd century AD, as a similar example was unearthed in settlement layers dating to around 100-400 AD during excavations in the Roman city of Colchester.
At just over one inch long and just under one inch wide, the figurine’s body is shaped like a typical turtle/tortoise shell, sub-circular in plan and D-shaped in section. While the top of the shell is very worn, it appears to have once been decorated with two sets of crescent-shaped grooves, positioned on either side of the midpoint. The figurine has a crudely shaped head protruding from the apex of the shell, and four feet projecting from the sides. The left forelimb seems to have been broken away some time ago, leaving only a short stump. There is also a small tail on the lower edge. The underside of the shell is flat and does not appear to have been decorated.
Tortoises or turtles were most often associated with the god Mercury in the Roman world and Mercury is often found accompanied by turtles/tortoises in iconography. Mercury was the god of commerce, communication and travellers. A possible reason for the association with Mercury was that tortoise shells were used for making lyres, stringed musical instruments used in antiquity, the invention of which is attributed to Mercury in mythology. It may have been associated with Sabazios, too, a god of the Phrygians and Thracians.
Metal detectorists who report their finds to the Finds Recording Team have resulted in an increasing corpus of Roman turtle/tortoise figurines in recent years. Several similar figurines have also been recorded in Suffolk, near Barking, and near Little Blakenham by the Portable Antiquities Scheme over the years.
The wee tortoise was reported to the Suffolk Finds Liaison of the Portable Antiquities Scheme for documentation and has now been returned to the finder.
The Portable Antiquities Scheme is an initiative to encourage the recording of archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper Current Progress Part 6
Here’s a list of my current progress in the Final Fantasy Record Keeper (#ad) (FFRK) mobile game.
5-star Fire Magicite, Belias
Belias is the 5-star Fire Magicite who is weak to the water element and who takes reduced damage against physical attacks.
Unfortunately, just like my ice tech, I’m also lacking in magical water relics so I had to take on this fight with a physical water team. To make matters worse, my physical water team was positively subpar when compared to my ice team or even my fire team. I don’t even have a water Sync, and I barely have any water-type AASBs. Yeah, it’s that bad. Still, I wanted to give it a try.
My Magicite deck was:
Famfrit (XII) - Dampen Fire Level 10 and Health Boon Level 5
Geosgaeno (X) - 2 Empower Water Level 15
Madeen (IX) - Healing Boon Level 15 and Health Boon Level 5
Madeen (IX) - 2 Attack Boon Level 20 - thanks to beating Typhon, I now have Attack Boon Level 20
Phoenix (VI) - Spell Ward Level 5 and Blade Ward Level 8
My team was:
Yuffie Kisaragi from Final Fantasy VII
partial Record Board - got her attack tiles and some of her defense, HP, and resistance tiles
100 Magia in attack stat and 93 in water attack stat
AASB1, Sublime Doom
AOSB1, Freewheeling Bloodfest
USB2, Freewheeling Gauntlet
G+1, Ebb and Flow
G1, Freewheeling Reflection
CSB, Smoke Shell
LMR, Finders Keepers
equipped with Azure Unending. Also ended up making Aquatic Weakness, an ability that imperils the water element
Mako Might Record Materia
Aeris or Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII
complete Record Board
100 Magia in mind and HP stats, 50 Magia in defense and resistance stats
AASB, Star Pulse
USB1, Hidden Bloom
USB2, Innocent Cure
G+1, Refreshing Breeze
G+2, Star Whisper
Unique Soul Break, Planet Protector
LMR, Flower of the Slums
equipped with Dispel and Ultra Cure
Dr. Mog’s Teachings Record Materia
Tyro - Wrath, Entrust, and support as usual.
Tidus from Final Fantasy X
partial Record Board - didn’t get his Camaraderie tile
100 Magia in attack stat
Arcane Dyad Soul Break (ADSB) or True Arcane Soul Break (TASB), Apex Blitz Ace
USB1, Day to Remember
USB2, Quick Rush
CSB, A Fleeting Dream
G+, Sphere Form
equipped with Trinity Bombshell and Omega Drive
Scholar’s Boon Record Materia
Elarra - this time, I had her singing the Warrior’s Hymn and Ode to Victory.
Since I have Yuffie’s AASB, I initially had her as my main DPS. Had Tidus use his water Chain to support her. Her damage was laughably bad though, even under the effects of her Awakening. She wasn’t breaking the damage cap at all. I was disappointed. It’s been a while since I last used her, but I didn’t remember her being this bad.
I guess it’s also because this isn’t exactly the best water team. Tidus’s Chain wasn’t that good either. In fact, the whole time I was doing the fight, IIRC, no one was able to break the damage cap at all, so much so that I was surprised I actually managed to win.
For my next try, I decided to use Yuffie’s water Chain and have Tidus as my DPS instead. Tidus turned out to be much better than Yuffie thanks to his TASB and his USB2, both of which actually enabled him to break the damage cap a few times. Was pleased to see his ADSB dealing some pretty good numbers. With better support and better relics for him (wish I have his Syncs and his AASB), I think he’ll be able to hit much harder.
Magicite Passives List
Here’s a list of passives that can be obtained from 5-star Magicite fights. Not all passives are listed though. Didn’t bother to list the Empower Elements and the Dampen Elements since I already got those from the 4-star Magicites.
Precise Strikes Level 10 - Increases the critical hit chance of all allies. Can be obtained from Behemoth King or Manticore
Fast Act Level 10 - Reduces the action delay of all allies. Can be obtained from Quetzalcoatl
Blade Ward Level 8 - Decreases physical damage taken by all allies. Can be obtained from Geosgaeno or Mateus
Spell Ward Level 8 - Decreases magic damage taken by all allies. Can be obtained from Famfrit
Deadly Strikes Level 10 - Increases the critical hit damage of all allies. Can be obtained from Belias
Health Boon Level 8 - Increases the HP of all allies, proportional to combined Magicite stats. Can be obtained from Phoenix
Attack Boon Level 20 - Increases the Attack of all allies, proportional to combined Magicite stats. Can be obtained from Typhon
Magic Boon Level 20 - Increases the Magic of all allies, proportional to combined Magicite stats. Can be obtained from Syldra
Defense Boon Level 20 - Increases the Defense of all allies, proportional to combined Magicite stats. Can be obtained from Adamantoise
Resistance Boon Level 20 - Increases the Resistance of all allies, proportional to combined Magicite stats. Can be obtained from Hecatoncheir
Healing Boon Level 15 - Increases the effect of healing on all allies. Can be obtained from Lakshmi
Mind Boon Level 20 - Increases the Mind of all allies, proportional to combined Magicite stats. Can be obtained from Ark
Final Fantasy I Dreams Dungeons Infernal
The Dreams Dungeons quests range from Ultimate (level 180) to Infernal (level 350). I’ve been able to do the level 180 quests on auto although haven’t had the time to finish all of them yet. I think I’ve only done a few of the Infernal quests so far since haven’t really had the time to get through all of these. What’s the rush anyway, right?
Well, I was content to ignore all these permanent content for as long as possible but then these limited time missions showed up. These missions include doing some of the Cardia Dungeons (Dreams are part of this) with at least 3 chars from the same realm.
One of these realms was Final Fantasy I. I don’t have a lot of Soul Breaks for the FF1 realm so I decided to try the Final Fantasy I Dreams fights with a modified version of my fire team. By that, I mean that I grabbed 3 chars from FF1 then 2 of the chars from my fire team then put them together then proceeded to auto all the FF1 Dreams quests. Surprisingly, it actually worked.
I brought my Level 120 Final Fantasy VII Historia Crystal to all these fights since my main DPS was from FF7. My team was:
Genesis Rhapsodos from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Limit Break Overstrike (LBO), Light of Doom
Synchro Arcane Soul Break (SASB), Purgatorial Wave
Awakened Arcane Soul Break (AASB), Genesis Rhapsody
Arcane Overstrike Soul Break (AOSB), SOLDIER’s Epic
Ultra Soul Break (USB), Apocalypse Genesis
Glint+ Soul Break 1 (G+1), Epic of Creation
Glint+ Soul Break 2 (G+2), Epic of Heroism
Glint Soul Break (G), Epic of Destruction
Legend Materia Relic (LMR), Fierce Opposition
100 Magia in the fire attack, attack, defense, resistance, and HP stats then 10 each for the defense stat of all the elements
complete Record Board
equipped with his Hero Ability, Genesis Slash, and Inferno Assault
Twisted Creator Record Materia - deal much more physical damage when a sword is equipped
Yeah, Genesis is my most built char in this game. I'd bring him to all the battles if I could. That’s because Genesis is currently my most favorite Final Fantasy char. He’s the reason why I’m playing Final Fantasy Record Keeper.
Balthier (Ffamran mied Bunansa) from Final Fantasy XII
partial Record Board - got the attack and HP tiles and some of the defense and resistance tiles
has 107 Magia points but looks like I forgot to use them. Whoops
CSSB2, Incendiary Trap
AASB, Untouchable Hellfire
G+2, Scarlet Sky Fluke
BSB1, Gatling Gun
BSB2, Spark of Change
equipped with Burnt Offering and Flame Offering
Mako Might
I brought Balthier to support Genesis. He’s here to imperil the fire element and cast his fire Chain Soul Break to buff and increase Genesis’s damage.
Garland from Final Fantasy I
Unlocked his 3, 4, and 5-star Spheres but didn’t bother to get any of the tiles on his Record Board. I have his Chain Soul Break, but it’s for the dark element so didn’t even bother to equip it for this fight. He’s equipped with the Touched by Darkness and Demon’s Cross abilities as well as his Ultra Soul Break, Source of Hatred, not that any of this matters at all since he hit like a wet noodle and was only really here so I could get the limited rewards.
Warrior of Light from Final Fantasy I
The same could be said for the Warrior of Light although I actually have a few more of his relics, including his AASB, Oversoul. He also hits like a wet noodle though, likely because I didn’t get his Record Board and didn’t even give him a 6-star ability.
Sarah from Final Fantasy I
Sarah served as my healer although, obviously, if I had the choice, I’d bring someone else. I only have 2 relics for her - USB2, Crystal's Gleam, and G1, Love of Cornelia. Didn’t bother to bring the G1 since it doesn’t even heal. I don’t have her G+ that grants the party Protect, Shell, and Haste, and I don’t want to spend Lenses to get it, so I had to equip her with the Hastega ability. Her second slot has Curada. She worked well enough. Too bad I don’t have more of her relics.
Final Fantasy V Dreams Dungeons Infernal
Also managed to do the Final Fantasy V Dreams Dungeons Infernal quest. Of course, I brought Genesis as my main DPS again with Balthier to support him. The rest of the team was:
Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V - have his fire Chain Soul Break. Used to use him before I got Balthier. His Chain isn’t that bad, but he can’t equip the Machinist abilities that imperil fire so I prefer Balthier.
Bartz Klauser from Final Fantasy V - have his wind Sync and one of his Glints but didn’t bother to get his Record Board. He’s equipped with Snowspell Strike but he hits like a wet noodle even under the effects of his Sync.
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon from Final Fantasy V - actually happen to have a near complete Lenna (the relics I’m missing for her can be bought from the The Record Lab), including both of her Awakenings and her Sync as well as her so-called “best” USB so I got most of her Record Board. She’s equipped with Passionate Salsa and Curada.
Final Fantasy X Dreams Dungeons Infernal
For this fight, the chars from Final Fantasy X that I brought were:
Jecht - have his AASB1, not that it matters since he ended up hitting like a wet noodle even when equipped with 6-star abilities.
Auron - have his Sync, AASB, 2 of his Ultras, his Glint+, and 1 of his Burst Soul Breaks (BSB). Auron is actually my secondary fire DPS. He’s part of my fire team alongside Genesis and Balthier. I use him often though nowadays I also sometimes use Vincent Valentine (from Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII) instead of him.
Yuna - served as the party’s healer. I have her holy Chain, but of course it didn’t get equipped for this fight. Have her AOSB although since she’s more of a support than an attacker and she was here to heal, didn’t bother to equip this either. She’s equipped with the only Ultra Soul Break I have for her. This is her bad USB since it doesn’t activate instantly. At least it grants Haste though so I didn’t need to slot in Hastega.
Final Fantasy I D450 Torment Dungeon
There are also time limited rewards for bringing at least 3 Final Fantasy I chars and clearing the FF1 D450 Torment Dungeon. Didn’t think I could auto this, at least not if I’m also bringing 2 off-realm chars (there's a penalty if you bring off-realm chars to the fight. The more in-realm chars you bring, the better). So had to do the fight manually.
Tried the same team that I used to take on the FFI Dreams Dungeon, and it worked out well enough, but clearly improvements could still be made since the fight ended well after 30 seconds. Since we had to do the fight several times to get all the rewards, I tried again and kept tweaking my setup and team.
Ended up dropping Garland and replacing him with Wol. I have his Awakening and one of his Bursts, but it didn’t matter for this fight since that wasn’t the reason why I brought him. I chose him over Garland because Wol can equip the Wrath and Entrust abilities. So he acted as my support, giving gauges to Sarah, Balthier and Genesis.
Due to the penalty for bringing 2 off-realm chars to this quest, I needed Balthier to not just use his Chain, but also his Burst Soul Break so he could stack imperil fire. This meant he needed a lot of gauges so Wol mostly Entrusted to him and occasionally to Sarah so she could keep up with the healing. Borrowed the healing Roaming Warrior too since I wasn’t gonna use the FF1 Realm Chain anyway.
Had Genesis equipped with Omega Drive so he could build more gauges on his own. The Warrior of Light’s Ultra grants allies a barrier that reflects a portion of the damage they take back to the attackers and it can also remove delay from all allies’ actions for one turn so I had him spam that. Sarah focused on healing, casting Hastega on her first turn then spamming Ultra Cure (would have brought Curada since it’s better but this boss likes to debuff so I needed the Esuna from Ultra Cure) until she had enough bars to activate her USB.
Genesis was able to deal good damage once everything was setup. Really glad that I was able to get the win although couldn’t do it within 30 seconds. I’m off by like 5 seconds. Eh, it’s fine. I’ll revisit this later on. Only kept trying until I was able to get all the time limited rewards. I can go back to sub-30 some other time. Maybe I’ll have more FF1 relics by then.
Final Fantasy V D450 Torment Dungeon
For my first clear, I brought the same team as before except I dropped Gilgamesh for Faris Scherwiz (Sarisa Scherwil Tycoon) because she can use Wrath and Entrust. Since I had Bartz’s Sync, I wanted him to act as my secondary DPS except his damage was so meh.
On subsequent tries, I just dropped him since he wasn’t really contributing to this team anyway. I brought back Gilgamesh, mostly because he can use the Banishing Strike ability which dispels an enemy.
The boss here likes to buff himself, and I really need to dispel that. Lenna can equip the dispel ability but that would mean having to drop Passionate Salsa since I also need Ultra Cure for the status effects. It was a bit of a dilemma until I decided to just drop Bartz. Now Gilgamesh can dispel the enemy while Lenna can dance the Salsa and esuna the status effects.
Once again, stacking imperil fire was the name of the game. Needed to get everything setup before having Genesis activate his Soul Breaks so he could basically solo the entire fight with support from his team mates. Got the win, but no sub-30 again. Ah, well. That’s okay. I’m more than pleased that I was able to use Genesis against these kinds of fights where you’re practically required to bring a full realm team to make things easier for you.
Final Fantasy IV Dreams Dungeons Infernal
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try the Final Fantasy X D450 Torment Dungeon before the time limited missions for those ended. Ran out of time. Whoops. It’s fine though. Now there are new time limited missions, and this time they’re all about Final Fantasy IV.
The FF4 chars I brought to the Infernal Dreams fight were:
Edward Chris von Muir - don’t have any of his relics but he can sing the Warrior’s Hymn and Ode to Victory so I brought him to buff my fave Genesis’s stats.
Paladin Cecil Harvey - have one of his USBs and BSBs. Since he can equip Ultra Cure, had him act as my secondary healer.
Rosa Joanna Farrell - she was my main healer. Actually have her AASB and one of her Ultras. Equipped her with Holyja so she’d spam that under her AASB and heal the party with her follow-ups.
Final Fantasy VII Realm Banner
Just got a Realm/Elemental x11 ticket and decided to use it on the Final Fantasy VII Realm banner. Got 3 disco orbs, but Dr. Mog didn’t show up, and ended up getting 2 dupes. One was a dupe of Cloud’s wind Awakening. Meh. Wish that had been his Sync or his dark Awakening instead.
Didn’t bother to take notes since this pull was really quite disappointing but it looks like the new relic I got belongs to Tifa Lockhart. It might be her Overstrike Soul Break (OSB).
The other dupe I got was Genesis’s Ultra Soul Break. That was really the only reason why I bothered to screenshot this pull. It’s always nice to see his relics, but I already have all of them so it’s hard not to be disappointed with the results of this draw. It felt like a waste of a ticket.
If I was gonna get dupes of Genesis’s relics, I wish it had been his AOSB or his Awakening instead since at least those can be ranked up, and I’ve yet to max out either. Too bad his Ultra can’t be ranked up.
Also, his Ultra comes from his Dirge of Cerberus outfit while his Arcane Overstrike Soul Break comes from his Crisis Core outfit. I prefer the latter. But it seems like I keep getting his USB.
Final Fantasy II Dreams Dungeons Infernal
Time limited missions for the Final Fantasy II Cardia Dungeons have just shown up so once again I brought Genesis, Balthier and 3 chars from FFII to auto these fights. The 3 FFII chars I ended up going with were:
Firion - have his Awakening but haven’t really invested in him, so, unsurprisingly, he hit like a wet noodle.
Josef - surprised to find I actually have one of his Ultras. It imperils ice but at least it also grants everyone a damage reduction barrier.
Hilda - my healer. Only had her Glint+ which grants the party Protect, Shell, and Haste. That allowed me to forego having to bring Hastega. But I did have to buy her Ultra from the The Record Lab. It seems like she could be pretty good if I have more relics for her since she can sing and dance like Elarra. So apart from keeping everyone alive, she also buffed their attack and debuffed enemies.
Final Fantasy IV D450 Torment Dungeon
Managed to do the Final Fantasy IV D450 Torment Dungeon on manual using the same team I used to auto the FFIV Dreams Dungeon. Couldn’t get the sub-30 yet though.
5-star Fire Magicite, Phoenix
Phoenix is the 5-star Fire Magicite who is weak to the water element and who takes reduced damage against magic and ninjutsu attacks. For this fight, I brought the same team that I used to take on Belias. Well, it wasn’t like I had much of a choice anyway. As aforementioned, my water tech is sorely lacking.
Surprisingly, managed to win this fight within 30 seconds. Got the win at 27.47 seconds. I suppose it really helped that Phoenix is actually weak to physical water attacks so Yuffie and Tidus were able to deal pretty decent damage, especially once Tyro, Elarra and Aerith buffed them as much as possible.
5-star Water Magicite, Famfrit
Famfrit is the 5-star Water Magicite who is weak to the lightning element and who takes reduced damage against magic and ninjutsu attacks.
If my water-type relics are sorely lacking, then my lightning tech is basically nonexistent. I don’t even have a lightning Chain or Sync. I think I have like 1 or 2 lightning Awakenings. So, yeah, there was no way I could field a lightning team against Famfrit.
Thankfully, my fire team was able to get the victory. I brought Genesis, Vincent, Balthier, Tyro, and Elarra and even managed to get sub-30, winning the fight at 26.84 seconds.
Had Tyro and Elarra buff Genesis’s attack and increase his critical hit chance and critical hit damage. Balthier was there for his fire Chain. He also imperiled fire for Genesis. Vincent can also help imperil fire with his Sync command 1. And even he dealt pretty good damage once everything was set up.

Apex Legends - Hogwarts!AU
full character AU breakdowns under the cut
(will be updated as more details are thought of)
Bangalore
Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
Bravery, Daring, Nerve
Blood Status: Pureblood
Wand: Fir wood, Dragon Heartstring core, 12 1/2”, Rigid flexibility
Fir: “Gerbold Octavius Ollivander always called wands of this wood ‘the survivor’s wand’, because he had sold it to three wizards who subsequently passed through mortal peril unscathed. There is no doubt that this wood, coming as it does from the most resilient of trees, produces wands that demand staying power and strength of purpose in their true owners, and that they are poor tools in the hands of the changeable and indecisive. Fir wands are particularly suited to Transfiguration, and favour owners of focused, strong-minded and, occasionally, intimidating demeanour.” [via Pottermore]
Dragon Heartstring: “As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Defence Against the Dark Arts
Patronus: White Stallion
“Those with the white stallion patronus possess a strong sense of self. It is difficult to convince them to turn away from personal beliefs or change who they are. Strength and durability in character make the white stallion especially formidable compared to the conjurers of other horse type patronus. However, those who wield the white stallion can often be provocative and rub people up the way.” [via patronusmeaning]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Wampus
Extra:
Gryffindor Quidditch Team Beater and Captain
Gryffindor Prefect
Actually pretty good at charms but that doesn’t quite live up to the rep she’s built so she keeps that on the downlow
Bloodhound
Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff
Dedication, Loyalty, Fairness, a good finder
Blood Status: Pureblood
Wand: Hornbeam Wood, Phoenix Feather core, 12”, Unbending flexibility
Hornbeam: “Hornbeam selects for its life mate the talented witch or wizard with a single, pure passion, which some might call obsession (though I prefer the term ‘vision’), which will almost always be realised. Hornbeam wands adapt more quickly than almost any other to their owner’s style of magic, and will become so personalised, so quickly, that other people will find them extremely difficult to use even for the most simple of spells. Hornbeam wands likewise absorb their owner’s code of honour, whatever that might be, and will refuse to perform acts – whether for good or ill – that do not tally with their master’s principles. A particularly fine-tuned and sentient wand.” [via Pottermore]
Phoenix Feather: “This is the rarest core type. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Care of Magical Creatures
Patronus: Crow
“The crow is a very well-known bird that some believe is an omen of dark magic, but the crow is very resourceful, ambitious, and cunning. Once they set a goal, they always seem to get what they’re after. Crows are also fearless. Regardless of what sort of creature they find in the way of their goal, they will do anything they can to overpower it. They are also very smart and have been observed using tools to achieve their means.” [via mugglenet]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
Extra:
Was a hatstall (in addition to their Hufflepuff nature, they demonstrate a few Slytherin traits too, particularly with their resourcefulness)
Hufflepuff Quidditch Team Seeker
Hufflepuff prefect.
Caustic
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Intelligence, Learning, Originality
Blood Status: Pureblood
Wand: Walnut Wood, Dragon Heartstring core, 12 1/4”, Stiff flexibility
Walnut: “Highly intelligent witches and wizards ought to be offered a walnut wand for trial first, because in nine cases out of ten, the two will find in each other their ideal mate. Walnut wands are often found in the hands of magical innovators and inventors; this is a handsome wood possessed of unusual versatility and adaptability. A note of caution, however: while some woods are difficult to dominate, and may resist the performance of spells that are foreign to their natures, the walnut wand will, once subjugated, perform any task its owner desires, provided that the user is of sufficient brilliance. This makes for a truly lethal weapon in the hands of a witch or wizard of no conscience, for the wand and the wizard may feed from each other in a particularly unhealthy manner.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Potions
Patronus: Buzzard
“Those with the Buzzard are natural observers, rarely missing anything. Often less talkative but still involved in what happens around them. However, choosing to watch goings on and be less talkative does not mean they lack communication skills. Those with the Buzzard patronus have great communication skills and can be very persuasive. Those with the Buzzard are often goal orientated. They know what they want and will do anything to achieve it.Analytical, those with the Buzzard are often found thinking and can outsmart there way out of any problem.“ [via patronusmeaning]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Horned Serpent
Extra:
you’d think he was a Slytherin given how much time he spends in the dungeons
Gifted at Herbology, but he doesn’t actually have much interest it in - he’d rather show of his talents in Potions and DADA
Gibraltar
Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff
Loyalty, Fairness, Dedication, Hardwork
Blood Status: Muggleborn
Wand: Rowan Wood, Unicorn Hair core, 13 1/2”, Reasonably Supple flexibility
Rowan: “Rowan wood has always been much-favoured for wands, because it is reputed to be more protective than any other, and in my experience renders all manner of defensive charms especially strong and difficult to break. It is commonly stated that no dark witch or wizard ever owned a rowan wand, and I cannot recall a single instance where one of my own rowan wands has gone on to do evil in the world. Rowan is most happily placed with the clear-headed and the pure-hearted, but this reputation for virtue ought not to fool anyone – these wands are the equal of any, often the better, and frequently out-perform others in duels.” [via Pottermore]
Unicorn Hair: “Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Charms
Patronus: Buffalo
“Few possess just the right strength of character for their patronus to take the form of a buffalo. Those that do are dedicated individuals who are fiercely protective of those close to them, and not in a general way, either. Anyone foolish enough to attempt to harm another under a buffalo’s care is unlikely to come out unscathed. When all is well, they are placid but often outgoing, with strong personalities and who like having fun with those they bond to. However, going too long without contact with friends or family can lead to a buffalo feeling anxious or sad, and they will usually be at their best when sharing time with others. They are steadfast friends that enjoy being helpful and lending a hand to complete a task, or just making someone feel better.” [via patronusappreciation]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Pukwudgie
Extra:
Hufflepuff Quidditch Team Keeper and Captain
Head Boy
Always ready to lend a helping hand to younger students
The best to go down to Hogsmede with
Lifeline
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Ambition, Determination, Preservation, a certain disregard for the rules
Blood Status: Pureblood
Wand: Aspen Wood, Unicorn Hair core, 11 1/2”, Surprisingly Swishy flexibility
Aspen: “The proper owner of the aspen wand is often an accomplished duellist, or destined to be so, for the aspen wand is one of those particularly suited to martial magic. In my experience, aspen wand owners are generally strong-minded and determined, more likely than most to be attracted by quests and new orders; this is a wand for revolutionaries.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Potions
Patronus: Chow Dog
“The loyalty tends to only extend to those they have chosen to bond with, and they are fiercely protective of these individuals. They don’t usually bond too well with just anyone and tend to be aloof around those they do not yet know well. Chows may also chafe under authority if those in charge do not suit their taste or if they think the person in charge doesn’t seem to be a good leader. As such, they can be very stubborn and strong-willed in the face of anything from a small argument to some great danger. When at rest, they’re generally easy-going people, but an occasional temper in those with a chow patronus definitely isn’t unheard of.” [via patronusappreciation]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Pukwudgie
Extra:
Helps out in the hospital wing
Stays at Hogwarts over the holidays because she’s not fond of her family’s views
Sometimes struggles with whether or not she actually likes being on Slytherin - one on hand, the traits and values match her, but on the other, the house was founded on the pureblood-beliefs she disagrees with
Mirage
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Intelligence, Wit, Creativity, Acceptance
Blood Status: Muggleborn
Wand: Spruce wood, Dragon Heartstring core, 13 1/4”, Reasonably Supple flexibility
Spruce: “It is quite true that it requires particular deftness to work with spruce, which produces wands that are ill-matched with cautious or nervous natures, and become positively dangerous in fumbling fingers. The spruce wand requires a firm hand, because it often appears to have its own ideas about what magic it ought to be called upon to produce. However, when a spruce wand meets its match – which, in my experience, is a bold spell-caster with a good sense of humour – it becomes a superb helper, intensely loyal to their owners and capable of producing particularly flamboyant and dramatic effects.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Charms
Patronus: Magpie
“Those with the Magpie patronus have an impressive mind. Although they may not seem it, conjurers of the magpie are often very intelligent. Perceptive, those with this patronus are often able to understand and process information exceedingly fast. Those with this patronus are the most intellectual of all. Another feature of those with this patronus is the ability to observe, this watchful nature allows people with the Magpie patronus to absorb information just by watching things happen around them. The downfall of those who conjure this patronus is that they can sometimes be willful and will not change their mind easily, sometimes this leads to disputes. However, this willful nature comes from the need to constantly be improving. Those with the magpie patronus strive for better.” [via patronusmeaning]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
Extra:
The youngest in his family, he’s also the only wizard - when he got the letter from Hogwarts, he was incredibly excited but felt guilty about leaving his mother as at the time his brothers were all beginning to move out
Incredibly talented at Charms, Transfiguration, and Arithmancy - he’s good at combining the muggle and wizarding worlds
Secretly enjoys creating his own spells.
Pathfinder
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Ambition, Fraternity, Determination, Resourcefulness
Blood Status: Halfblood
Wand: Vine wood, Unicorn Hair core, 12”, Whippy flexibility
Vine: “Vine wands are among the less common types, and I have been intrigued to notice that their owners are nearly always those witches or wizards who seek a greater purpose, who have a vision beyond the ordinary and who frequently astound those who think they know them best. Vine wands seem strongly attracted by personalities with hidden depths, and I have found them more sensitive than any other when it comes to instantly detecting a prospective match.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Muggle Studies
Patronus: St Bernard Dog
“Those with this patronus are playful and bright in character. To cast this patronus takes a large and loyal heart. People with this Patronus are typically thoughtful and committed. Once they pledge allegiance to someone, those who cast the st Bernard show true commitment to friends, family and lovers. Ever thoughtful, those who cast this patronus can seem in their own world. Those who cast the St Bernard are very positive and emotional, often warm and bright. Those with the St Bernard can sometimes be hurt easily by others but more often than not, offer a ray of sunshine in a dark world. Often adventurous, conjurers of this patronus are always looking for fun. Often following a quest all of their own.“ [via patronusmeaning]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
Extra:
Grew up with his muggle mother, never met his wizard father
Aims to succeed in hopes that one day he will find his father
Slytherin Quidditch Team seeker
Wraith
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Self-preservation, Cunning, Determination, Resourcefulness, a certain disregard for the rules
Blood Status: Pureblood
Wand: Silver Lime wood, Phoenix Feather core, 11”, Unyielding flexibility
Silver Lime: “This unusual and highly attractive wand wood was greatly in vogue in the nineteenth century. The reasons for these wands’ desirability lay not only in their unusually handsome appearance, but also because they had a reputation for performing best for Seers and those skilled in Legilimency, mysterious arts both, which consequently gave the possessor of a silver lime wand considerable status.” [via Pottermore]
Favourite Class: Defence Against the Dark Arts
Patronus: Adder
“Serpents in general are often seen as wise, as well as symbols of healing or change, and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. To have a snake represent any part of you is very powerful indeed. Those that associate with the serpent tend to be wise and cunning individuals, known for being both sympathetic and beautiful. Adders in particular are very intuitive about people and situations, and may have a healthy sense of foresight. Adders tend to have very good self-control and are able to accurately judge things as they happen.” [via patronusappreciation]
[alternatively] Ilvermorny House: Wampus
Extra:
Unaware of her blood status as she doesn’t know her parents - she was abandoned at a young age [they thought she may be a squib and couldn’t have that], and though she initially viewed Hogwarts as a place to find answers, it’s grown into a place she finds refuge
Really talented at apparition. her favourite class is DADA, but her best class is Divination, in which her grades are almost supernaturally good
A fairly decent Legilimens, though it’s not a talent she’s necessarily proud of.

Top Garrett Metal Detectors 2020
Top Garrett Metal Detectors 2020
Garrett Metal Detectors could possibly be the most known name in the metal detecting community. For many years, Garrett has seemed to dominate the detector world and I believe there’s a good reason why. I don’t think it is marketing or a fancy new website, I think it goes a lot deeper than that. When I first started metal detecting and treasure hunting back in the 1990s, I researched for the best metal detector I could afford for several months.
After I visited websites, blogs, and forums, and received and read over my brochures, I had narrowed it down and decided that Garrett or Whites metal detectors were my top two choices. At the time, Whites seemed to be my first choice, but Whites metal detectors also appeared to be more complex than Garrett. Because I was new at metal detecting, I was worried about buying a detector that I might not understand or use because it was possibly too advanced.
I ended up deciding to buy a Garrett Metal Detector and I can tell you still today, I am glad that I did. It was extremely easy to use, understand, and all my hesitation and worries were gone after the first few minutes of playing around with it. It was so easy to use, my first trip I found many different artifacts. Some of the items I found were 6” inches deep in the ground and happened to be almost 100 years old. Garrett certainly made my beginning treasure hunting experience amazingly simple.
Are the New Garrett Metal Detectors Easy to Use?
A common question many new detectorists find themselves asking is, “Are the new Garrett Metal Detectors easy to use?” The answer is Yes! Garrett metal detectors have changed over time, but they have kept the models similar in function and still easy to use. I can use a Garrett detector that was made in the early 2000s, and then use a new Garrett metal detector today, and I’m telling you there would not be a big difference in how they function. Garrett Metal Detectors have not changed much except for their technology and performance. They are now better and more reliable than ever but still easy to use for beginners all the way to advanced detectorists. In fact, many detectorists I know today prefer using Garrett detectors. They use them faithfully and have had great outcomes and discoveries.
Is Garrett Metal Detectors Creating New Products?
In May of 2020, Garrett announced that they were coming out with a new model for the Ace Series. The Garrett Ace Apex | Multi Frequency Metal Detector. Many people are extremely excited about this metal detector because once again, Garrett has created a new detector that has even better performance, is lightweight and easy to use at a very affordable price. How can you beat that? Many other metal detector brands are doing the same thing as well, creating easy to use, affordable metal detectors. I think Garrett has set the stage in that class. Here is an article I wrote about the Garrett Ace Apex. Click on this link to read more.
Why Should I Buy a Garrett Metal Detector Product?
Here are a few more things to think about as you are considering if you would like to purchase a Garrett product. On top of the reasons that I have already mentioned above, Garrett technology is also known for multipurpose detectors. Here’s a list of what types of metals and where Garrett does well in discoveries.
Coin & Jewelry Hunting
Relic Hunting
Cache Hunting
Prospecting
Garrett Technology works very well in these types of environments, but they are not limited to these locations and destinations.
Ghost Town Hunting
Competition Events
Beach Hunting
Fresh Water Hunting
As you can see, Garrett Metal Detectors and accessories will help you find treasures in almost every type of location and treasure hunting adventure. Here’s another factor they have going for them, warranty! Garrett has a 2-year warranty on their detectors and that is very comforting to know that you can buy one of their detectors and if something happens to it, it will be covered. Garrett metal detectors customer service staff are professional and ready to help you. I feel confident to say that you can’t go wrong with investing in a Garrett product. I use them and I will stand behind them as a great detector brand.
I think I’ve covered everything that I felt was most important to share with you on my opinion of Garrett and now I think we should get to the top-selling detectors and accessories. Garrett is made in America and they are proud to say so. If you need any help, we are here. The Treasures in America team would be more than happy to outfit you with the best product that meets your needs and is within your budget. Contact us today to see how we can help.
