Intelligence - Disclosure 3
Season: Spring Characters: Jun, Kanata, Yuzuru, Kaoru, Eichi Translator: taiyaki-translations ENG Proofreader: sunnyskiestls (Kanata), verdantcrimson (Yuzuru)
Kanata: Do you all know about the âMendako alienâ?
The âMendako alienâ is a âcostumeâ that Chiaki uses for his âsolo workâ.
The âmodifiedâ version was used by Midori, âlentâ to Wataru, and so on⊠Anyway, it was used in a lot of âplacesâ.
That âcostumeâ is being kept in the âstorehouseâ of the Aoumi Aquarium.
And a âcostumeâ with a similar âappearanceâ seems to be âactiveâ at Starmony Dorms right now~?
Jun: Hm. Well first of all, itâs already a pretty crazy story from that point. I donât really get what it all means though.
Correct me if Iâm wrong, but this costume is being used without your permission, Shinkai-senpai?
Kanata: Thatâs right. So, to âconfirmâ the âsourceâ, I came to check the âwarehouseâ.
If there is a âholeâ in the âsecurityâ, itâll be a âbig problemâ...
So, Iâm heading to the âstorageâ. Please, take it easy in the meantimeâŠ~âȘ
Kaoru: Hm. the situation is getting complicated, huh~?
Itâs rare to see Kanata-kun so serious. Looks like these weird aliens are pretty troublesomeâŠ?
Yuzuru: I believe you are correct, Kaoru-sama.
I have heard reports of sightings, they seem to be causing quite a commotion.
Kaoru: Huh? Fushimi-kun, you know about the situation?
Yuzuru: I do. But I was busy with preparations for âATLANTISâ, so I didnât concern myself with it.
I saw one when I was coming back from ES with Eichi-sama the other day. This Mendako alienâ
Eichi: Thank you for coming on behalf of Tori today. Thanks to you, weâve made a lot of progress.
But isnât Tori having a hard time? On top of managing âATLANTISâ, he has his student council president duties and his âfineâ activities. Itâs too much for one person to handle.
Yuzuru: On the contrary that is what the young master himself intended.
The young master is following in the footsteps of Eichi-sama and his various accomplishments. He is quite happy to take over these roles.
Eichi: If thatâs the case, then alright. Tori often pushes himself too hard. Iâm a little concerned.
Yuzuru: Eichi-sama, you are no different. You have been taking some time off recently, but you still have a lot of work to do, so take care.
Eichi: Of course, Iâll make sure I undergo a thorough medical examination. I still have a lot of life left in me, you know.
But that is the reason why I need to work overtime on some days. I canât neglect myâhuh?
Yuzuru: âŠWhy did you suddenly stop? Eichi-sama?
Eichi: Yuzuru, look at that. Itâs quite an amusing sceneâŠâȘ
Yuzuru: ThatâŠ
Mendako alien: Men⊠Men⊠(1)
Yuzuru: âŠIs someone dancing in the garden while wearing some sort of costume? What could this be?
Eichi: Itâs a surreal sight indeed. Maybe they were overcome by the spring weather.
Yuzuru: Eichi-sama, should you wish, I could eliminate them for you. What would you like?
Eichi: No, letâs leave them be. Thereâs no point in wasting time by getting involved in strange occurrences.
Itâs already late today. If something happens after, it wonât be too late to react accordingly then.
Yuzuru: Understood. Then I will pretend I didnât see it.
Jun: Dancing around in a mendako costume⊠Um~ I donât really get it~?
Yuzuru: Yes, I found it curious too, but there were other more pressing matters.
Also, itâs possible that it was someone filming for a program or social media project. Various individuals who make a living doing entertainment gather there. Some eccentricities are bound to be commonplace.
Jun: Thatâs true~ Thereâll be no end to it if you react to every one of âemâŠ
While people dancing around in costumes is surprising, itâs nothing compared to what we went through during schoolâ
Mendako alien?: Mendako~
Jun: Uwah!? A Mendako alien!?
Mendako alien?: Fufufu~âȘ Were you surprised?
This is the âMendako alienâ costume âȘ
Kaoru: Ah, it was you after all, Kanata-kun. Seems like you found the costume.
Kanata: Yes. The âcostumeâ was in the âstorageâ.
Originally, the âMendako alienâ is a âmodifiedâ version of a âcostumeâ found in stores, so I think it was âobtainedâ through a different ârouteâ.
Jun: I see⊠Thatâs whatâs going on.
But Shinkai-senpai, that was seriously bad for my heart~ We were just talking about Mendako alien sightings, so that startled me even more.
Kanata: Iâm sorry. I was ârelievedâ that there wasnât any âtroubleâ, so I just did it on a whimâŠâȘ
But Iâm glad ânothingâ got stolen from âAoumi Aquariumâ.
When âsomethingâ disappears, âmanagerial responsibilitiesâ increaseâŠ~
Kaoru: Really? Thatâs great. Iâm glad nothing happened.
Since there are no problems, do you have time to talk to Fushimi-kun about management?
Yuzuru: Shinkai-sama, I would very much appreciate it if you could enlighten me on the subject.
I shall wait for you here while you change. Perhaps If you would allow me a moment of your time to talk at a nearby coffee shop?
Kanata: Ahaha, wouldnât it be interesting to learn from a âMendako alienâ though?
Iâll get changed, so please wait a little longerâŠâȘ
<That night>
Kaoru: âŠFwah
Hm, Iâm glad I noticed I was out of mineral water before I went to bed. Getting more would have been a hassle if I realized later.
Okay, got itâŠâȘ
(Anyway, I wonder what all the commotion with the Mendako alien is about.)
(I heard they appear at night in Starmony Dorms, but what could their purpose be?)
âŠâŠ.
(Hm? I heard a noise over there.)
(Ahaha, it canât be that the alien actually showed up, right?)
(If thatâs the case, letâs see whoâs in thereâŠâȘ)
Mendako aliens: MenâŠMenâŠ
Kaoru: Eh
(Thereâs several of those aliens around that table performing some kind of sketchy ritual!?)
(I didnât know there were so many of them! Are they coming out in groups at nightâŠ!?)

Raindrop-covered Show Window / Episode 1
Author: Nishioka Maiko
Characters: Souma, Kanata
"Ohh... How lovely...âȘ"
Directory ⧠Next â
Season: Winter
Location: AOUMI Aquarium (Main Hall)
Souma: âHmm. It seems there is still ample time before our meeting. Did I arrive a little early?
I wonder if Shinkai-dono is already here... Let's see...?
Hmm. As I thought, he hasn't arrived yet. Well, it's only natural. I simply came early.
I got overly excited when Shinkai-dono mentioned giving me some of the baby fishâthe fish fryâborn at the aquarium.
I shall wait here for a while. After all, there's a large fish tank right in front of my eyes.
Opportunities to gaze at such a large aquarium are rare. In doing so, even the passing of time will seem fleeting.
Souma: Aah... Indeed, aquariums truly do leave quite the impression...
Ohh... Despite being three times larger than the fish in the Marine Life Club, this fish swims so gracefully...
Truly, large fish tanks are a wonderful thing. The fish in the Marine Life Club should also swim in a bigger space.
However, the current aquarium has reached the limit in terms of the clubroom's size. Even now, the tank is installed at the very edge of the permissible area.
Kanata: Souma~
Souma: Mm?
Kanata: You are early~ Did I keep you waiting too long?
Souma: Oh, Shinkai-dono. Nay, I simply arrived too early, so please do not worry about it.
Moreover, while I was waiting, I got to thoroughly enjoy this aquarium, so it was a worthwhile experience âȘ
Kanata: Then I am glad. What were you "looking" at?
Souma: I was gazing at the fish swimming there. For some reason, I was rather taken by the way it swam.
Kanata: If Souma likes "that child" so much, would you like to take it back with you?
Souma: I appreciate Shinkai-dono's thoughtfulness, but I shall refrain.
Given its size, the school's facilities would feel rather cramped and inconvenient.
I was captivated by the sight of that fish swimming leisurely in this large tank to begin with.
Furthermore, with such a big fish, other members of the club may have a hard time taking care of it.
Kanata: Go~od boy, go~od boy âȘ For you to not be swayed by immediate "desires"... Souma, you are excellent~ That is why the children of the "academy" can be entrusted to you with "peace of mind."
Souma: I do not know if I'm excellent. However, I want you to feel assured that you can trust me, Shinkai-dono...âȘ
Kanata: Now then, I will go get the "children" for Souma. They are not out front, so I will "bring" them over now. Please wait here a little while longer.
Souma: Yes, understood!
Kanata: Heave-ho... heave-ho... Heave andâ
Here you go. These are the "children"~
Souma: Oh! All the fry are swimming so energetically!
Is it really okay to give these fry to the Marine Life Club? I feel guilty about separating them from their parents at such a young age...
Kanata: Mm~... Those are just the self-serving "preconceptions" of "humans".
Most fish leave their eggs and grow up by themselves.
Souma: Hmm, it's true. Excessive thoughtfulness and concern do nothing but impose on the other person... That's what it means, right?
Kanata: That is what it means âȘ So please dote on these "children" in the "Marine Life Club".
Now then, shall we go to the "academy"?
Souma: Hm? Will Shinkai-dono also come with and carry them? I'd be fine on my own, but...
Kanata: Do not be so reserved~ It may be difficult for "one person", but it becomes easy with "two people".
Now, let us go~o â
Location: Marine Life Club Room
Kanata: Thanks to Souma showing a "notice", I was able to enter the "academy" without any problems~ Thank you very much.
If you do not show it in advance, you will not be allowed to enter the premises in "casual clothes".
Souma: That's the least I could do. I, too, find it tedious to go back to the dormitory and change into my uniform.
Besides, I want to quickly transfer these fry to the water tanks.
Kanata: Hm, hmm~ The tank is also "clean" and the fishes seem to be "healthy". That must be because Souma takes good "care" of them~
Souma: Naturally. I will carry out the important duty given to me by my seniors, even at the cost of my own life!
Kanata: Fufufu~ You are full of energy~ But you do not have to put your life on the line, do you?
Souma: I am aware of that. Just be assured that I am prepared to do so.
By the way, Shinkai-dono, is it okay for me to transfer these fry to the tank? I'd like to put them in a larger space as soon as possible.
Kanata: Aah, that is right.
Oh? This tank is...
Souma: I thought it would be better to create an environment similar to that of an aquarium, so I prepared a large tank.
Fortunately, thanks to you, Shinkai-dono, there are plenty of aquarium tanks left in the clubroom. We can choose whichever ones we want to our heart's content.
...Could it be, that it would've been best if it was smaller?
Kanata: No~ This tank is adequate. Let us go ahead and transfer them.
Souma: Ohh... How lovely...âȘ
Kanata: Hm~m...
Souma: Mm? Shinkai-dono, is there something bothering you?
Kanata: I added plenty of aquatic plants, but I would like it if they had more "places" they can hide in~
Souma. Would you like to go get "supplies" with me now?
Souma: I would very much love to go, but... The truth is, I have a work meeting scheduled after this...
Kanata: I see~ In that case, it cannot be helped. I will purchase them by myself and put them in the "tank".
Souma: Goodness! I can't possibly make Shinkai-dono go through that much trouble...! I will go purchase them after my work is done.
Kanata: This is what is known as give-and-take. "Chief"-san often says it to me. So, it would be best for Souma to head to work.
Souma: Shinkai-dono... I am in your debt. I shall rely on your kindness in this matter...!
Kanata: Yes~ Take care~âȘ

kanata feature scout 2: Â âmeâ, research â chapter 1
this translation was gifted to me by my dear friend, @greeneyedexecutioner! it's always a joy to work together; thank you for such a wonderful translation! i hope everyone can also enjoy this adorable story below!
Season: Winter
Location: Aoumi Aquarium
Kanata: Hey-ho, hey-ho, cleaning up, cleaning up⊠⊠âȘ
Souma: Shinkai-dono! The floor of the exhibition âeriaâ has been completely cleaned. Is there anywhere else you would like me to start cleaning next?
Tetora: Shinkai-senpai, the stairs have been thoroughly swept from top to bottom âȘ I wanna know the location of the next place that requires cleaning too!
Kanata: Both Souma and Tetora are such âdiligent workersâ~
It is all thanks to the help given by the both of you, that I will be able to save greatly on the âlabor costsâ... ⊠âȘ
Souma: No, do not mention it. If anything, we would like to express our gratitude to Shinkai-dono for rallying us to your side. I hope that you will continue to request for assistance whenever you have such need, whether it be for cleaning, or for any kind of menial chores.
Tetora: Thatâs right. Iâve had the privilege of chowing down on so many yummy fish dishes thanks to you; so I wanna repay you by working as hard as I possibly can!
The fish thatâs prepared by Shinkai-senpai is always delicious, but even then, the last dish we had really went above and beyond that~
Kanata: Fufu. Whenever I see the both of you enjoying your food with so much excitement, I am really happy tooâŠ
There was never a need for âthanksâ or anything like that, though. That is why, I feel sorry for having asked you to âhelp outâ so early in the morning, too, you know?
Tetora: No, no. Itâs actually real enjoyable to be able to view the fish so leisurely when thereâs no one else around~ âȘ
Souma: Umu. I hope you will continue to call on me whenever there is a need. I am sure that all the experience accumulated from my time in the Marine Biology Club will definitely be of great service to you âȘ
Kanata: Both of you are so~ dependable. Well then, Iâll be taking you up on your generous offer next time⊠⊠âȘ
For now, as much as I would like to ask for your help in âsweepingâ the âentranceââ
Are the both of you really fine with having to work here at this hour?
Souma: It is not a problem for me, since all my âressunsâ for today are scheduled in the afternoon.
Tetora: Me too; The work Iâve got today is⊠⊠AH!
Speaking of work, thereâs something that Iâve been wanting to ask Shinkai-senpai!
Kanata: ? Something that you have been wanting to ask?
Tetora: A little bird told me that Senpaiâs going to be performing in a Solo Live. Midori-kun and Shinobu-kun donât seem to know anything about it though, so Iâve been wondering if what Iâve heard was true.
Kanata: A âSolo Liveâ... âŠ?
Aah~, you must be referring to the âFeature Liveâ.
Souma: âFuiâchaâ Raibuâ?
Kanata: I have only just heard about it from Anzu-san myself, so I have not had the chance to tell anyone in my âunitâ about it yetâŠ
But, it is true; I will be appearing in a âFeature Liveâ.
This âFeature Liveâ is a âlive performanceâ where âidolsâ will perform as âsolo artistsâ... âŠ
I have also heard something about a photoshoot for a âpamphletâ that will be used during the âLiveâ.
Tetora: Ehhh~ a pamphlet! Have you decided on the kind of photos that youâll be taking yet?
Kanata: Ur~m. I have not gotten that far yet. It appears that if there is a certain photograph that you want to take, or a special place that you want to go, they will listen to your ârequestsâ.
If I could go and âpuka, pukaâ in the âseaâ, I would like that very much, I am sure⊠⊠âȘ
Tetora: EHHH! It isnât a good idea to go swimming in the ocean in the dead of winter right now! Morisawa-senpai has also told you never to go bathing outdoors in the winter; heâs gonna get mad at you if you do, you know~?
Souma: Umu. You will definitely catch a cold in doing so; I would have you refrain from embarking on such a course of action, too!
Kanata: ⊠⊠Mu~. Well then, I would need the both of you to come up with alternative ideas for my photoshoot, please!
What kind of photos would be suitable to be used in this âpamphletâ?
Souma: Photos of Shinkai-dono, correct? U~mu~... âŠ
Tetora: U~myu~... âŠ
Ah~! Shinkai-senpai had that âShuffle Unitâ performance earlier in⊠âŠuh, what was that program called againâ
Kanata: Are you talking about âDJ Classics-kunâ? [1]
Tetora: Thatâs right, thatâs the one! Shinkai-senpaiâs performance in that program left a really deep impression on me⊠âŠ
I guess it must be âcause Iâm so used to seeing you as you usually are in Ryuseitai? Thatâs why seeing your performance in the âShuffle Unitâ came as such a breath of fresh air to me~ âȘ
Souma: Hmmm. I have not had a chance to view that performance myself, but I do look forward to seeing how it differs from Shinkai-donoâs usual appearance⊠⊠âȘ
Now that I think back on it, when Hasumi-dono participated in his âShyafuru Yunittoâ, I did behold a totally different impression from how he usually is in AKATSUKI.
Kanata: That was the one that Midori âparticipatedâ in, right? Midori looked so wonderful when he was in that âtuxedoâ... ⊠âȘ
Tetora: He looked really cool, didnât he~? My heart actually skipped a beat when I saw the expressions on his face that could only arise from actually being there.
Souma: Hasumi-donoâs gentle smile then, so filled with purity and compassion, may also be something which you might never witness while he is on stage as part of AKATSUKI.
Tetora: Iâd prefer to see someone the way they usually are, because thatâs the side of them that Iâm most familiar with, but thenâŠ
When itâs actually the same person, and yet not quite the sameâŠ, how do I put it? Itâs actually kinda nice to see a side of someone that can only be seen outside the unit.
Kanata: Fufu. Well then, that goes for âFeature Liveâ too, right?
I will be standing âsoloâ on âstageâ, and not with everyone in the âunitâ after all.
Souma: In other words, we may see a side of Shinkai-dono which is different from the one we usually see in Ryuseitai.
Tetora: Uwaa~ Iâm looking forward to it. Iâm getting really curious about what kind of stage itâll end up being, and what kind of song youâre gonna be singing too!
Kanata: Ahaha. Nothing has been decided yet, and I have yet to discuss it with Anzu-san~. I have not managed to come up with anything regarding the matter of the âpamphletâ either.
Souma: Ohh. That is correct; we were supposed to be discussing the âpanfurettoâ, were we not?
Urmmm. Photos of Shinkai-dono, photos of Shinkai-dono⊠
Tetora: U~myu~... âŠ
Kanata: I am sorry to have vexed the both of you so much, over something that is solely about me.
I do think it would make the âfansâ happy to see a different side of me in the âpamphletâ... âŠ
I am going to try to come up with my own ideas, using what we have discussed together as a âreferenceâ.
Tetora: Roger that! Weâll also be cheering you on from the sidelines⊠âŠ!
Well then. Weâll be off to clean up the entrance nowâ
Souma: We will beautify the place so that all the visitors will be greeted with a pleasant experience when they arrive.
Kanata: Thank you~. If you have any questions, please ask them at any time, okay~?
Souma: Understood. Then, I will be on my way âȘ
Kanata: ⊠⊠Well, then. I will now have to make my way to the âconcession standâ... âŠ
(... ⊠All things considered. I have listened to what the both of them have said, and have done a little âreflectionâ of my own.
I had been asked about âthe criteria that I wantedâ, so I had been idly listing all the places that I want to go, and the things that I want to do.
To stay exactly the same as I am now, would be a little⊠⊠Have I been giving too much âpreferential treatmentâ towards my favourite things?
It would be more helpful to Anzu-san if I had an âideaâ to propose regarding showing âa different sideâ of me, wouldnât it~?)
Mr. âBlue Tangâ, are there any particular kinds of photos that you would like to see of me?
Should I ask Mr. âSunfishâ [2] while I am at it too? Just kidding⊠⊠âȘ

Had he⊠Said something really out there? There was something about how her mannerism changed that informed him that something might have been amiss, and he was about to open his mouth to apologize, force of habit more than anything, because if a situation got awkward, Kanata believed that more often than not, it was usually his fault. But the young princessâ voice carried over to him, questions coming from her mouth that werenât really questions but something more akin to an explanation. For him? She was trying to explain her point to him in a way that was easier for him to understand? For a brief moment he was so overtaken by the sensation of gratitude mixed with an undercurrent of shame and embarrassment, that he barely even registered Soniaâs words. He backtracked quickly enough, his thoughts faster than his speech by far, and it dawned on him what she meant.
âFans are not friends⊠Not initially. They look at usâŠâ He made a vague gesture with his hand toward her and then to himself. âAnd they see dreams⊠Or opâopportunities. Happiness or⊠Connections⊠I⊠I think I understand what it is that you are saying. Being an idol is a job too, this is trueâŠâ
Tearing his eyes away from the otters â my, they really were fascinating and eye-catching little darlings, werenât they? Yes, for sure, Kanata preferred fish over the marine dwelling mammals out there, but allowances could be made â Kanata had to marvel over how the logistics of flying an entire school class from Japan to Europe would work. Those things happened sometimes though, school trips and the like, so at least some people had to know how to handle those things. But for a birthday partyâŠ? Kanata wasnât very used to celebrating birthdays to begin with, but it sounded like a lovely â albeit exhausting, perhaps â idea.
âByakuya Togami-sanâŠ? I have heard of him⊠He is very rich, no? Not a princess⊠Prince. I suppose. But heâs more like our EmperoâI mean, Eichi Tenshouin.â Kanata smiled. âBut I do hope that you will have a chance to get all of your friends to come over to your home when it is your birth. âŠDayâŠ.â
âOh, look! He likes you!â Kanata took note of the curious little otter, before he leaned forward, resting his forehead against the cool, smooth glass surface.
âI will inherit the Aoumi Aquarium, yes. And⊠I am hoping that I can continue with my idol activities as well, which means I will have to hire a competent staff or everything will fall apart. It is⊠Scary. I do not⊠Do not think I am well suited to⊠Run something. Not on my own. I have never really⊠Had the chance to learn. I have not⊠Been thoroughly bred to those kinds of things, not like you, Sonia⊠Iâm very scared that if I mess up, my little sea friends will be the ones to suffer. So, I have to do my best, I know this. But I will end up dependent on my family sooner or later, of this I am certain.â
Feeling a bit mentally exhausted after having spoken so much all at once, Kanata still managed to brighten at the mention at the penguins. He looked over at them and nodded eagerly.
âYes, let us go! I am so curious⊠I wonder what fish they use to feed them?â A question that didnât exactly require an answer, as he was already pondering the matter of Madara in his mind.
âI will gladly speak of him. He is my oldest friend for sure. Madara Mikejima⊠He is tall and broad and loud but he is a lot smarter than he would like people to know, for sure. He was always very⊠Charming⊠When we were children. He would be the only one of the boys in my friend group who would⊠VolnutâVolunteer to play the mommy when we played house. I would be⊠Very confused, because I was not good at playing but I tried. I was the papa.â
Kanataâs voice took on a dreamy sort of quality as he turned to Sonia with a gentle giggle trilling over his lips. âHe showed me magazines of idols and I found them so dazzling. Female idols⊠Male idols⊠I did not care. And Madara said he liked to see me laugh and he wanted to make me laugh moreâŠâ
âSo he turned a landfill into a huge flower garden, just for me. I had never seen alive flowers before that point. Only algae⊠It is not the same. But he planted that garden for me and it was beautiful.â Kanata didnât even question how Madara â a mere child at the time â had managed to do that, because if you were to ask Kanata; Madara could do anything. Frustratingly enough.
Sonia, for as much as she tried to experience what was a normal life, was often called naĂŻve. The sheer belief that chores and errands were something fun, something to marvel at, and that the opinion of the efficiency of trains and convenience stores making it easier for people without a household staff to go about their day-to-day lives was not only naĂŻve but fucking stupid. That said, as she stepped onto the escalators heading for the top floor, she stared at Kanata, taking every bit of personal composure she had not to do the same thing to him. Was he simply naĂŻve, or did he really have no idea how politics worked? Not that most teenagers had an intimate look into politics: you either had to be born into it, inheriting it, or have enough money to invest in making a difference. Kanata, Sonia thought, didn't fall into any of the above categories: still, was there nothing to be said for a simple act of negotiation?
"Kanata-san, when you meet fans through handshake greets or otherwise," Sonia asked quietly. She needed to phrase it in a way she hoped he would understand, drawing on what she knew of the idol world from her friend Sayaka Maizono's stories. It wasn't the sort of thing she ever spoke of with Eichi: they commiserated in the demands of their respective families over meals and experiences said families would never be caught dead engaging in. "Are you close friends with each and every one of those people? Or do some of them simply want your signature, or a photo, or a handshake, without divulging your most personal thoughts and opinions to them? They want to say they've met you, but it's not really an opportunity to come to know you."
She turned the corner, heading to the next bank of escalators. Thankfully, most visitors were far more preoccupied with the various tanks and pools to care about their conversation. It wasn't the sort of commentary she wanted on record, but Kanata was a friend. She didn't want to leave him in the dark like a child, hidden away from the real conversation and reality of life. "That's what it's like for me, many of my appearances and interviews. It's not really a friendship, it is a business relationship, a negotiation." One that, if she said the wrong word, or held her hands or handbag the wrong way, or didn't smile with just the right amount of luster, she would be analyzed and scrutinized in the press until a more interesting scandal came along.
Still, it wasn't necessarily insincere: it was simply the job. One she was born into and needed to inherit one day. Sonia smiled, both at the otters and Kanata, who seemed just as entertained by their brown eyes and sweet expressions as they swam playfully in their enclosure. "Oh, so you will inherit an aquarium one day then!" She clarified. So they did have something in common: they were both the next generation of a legacy. "Truth be told, my family isn't fond of me bringing anyone to visit at home unless they're thoroughly vetted and have my parents' approval. Simply attempting to have my entire class flown to Novoselic for my 18th birthday has been an ordeal enough, though my mother won't rest until I've invited Byakuya Togami and he accepts." There was a better chance of hell freezing over than Sonia and Byakuya hitting it off without any hitch whatsoever, but she chose not to mention that.
"But I know what it's like to have a strict family who doesn't approve of things, including a normal education and seeing much of the world on your own," She assured him, tracing a fingertip against the plexiglass of the tank. She'd captured one of the otters' attention, the animal now swimming against the other side of the glass to try and catch her finger. "I didn't attend a regular school until middle school, and I could only have friends over from the 'right, aristocratic families,' as my mother puts it." Being trotted out for various political and influential visitors, that too was something Sonia understood, before she needed to be seen and not heard. Mostly, she simply didn't want Kanata to think he was alone in an odd upbringing. No, he had a friend who thought his entire tale was, perhaps disturbingly, normal.
"Do you want to visit the penguins, and maybe tell me about your friend Madara-san?" She smiled, looking towards an eager group of penguins about to be fed their afternoon meal. "He must be very important if he helped you chart your own course in life! I am very intrigued, and perhaps a bit envious of such a thing."

Kumon: Sakurada
Yuki: Yamabuki
Chapter 10
Izumi: It didn't take long until opening day.
Tenma: This time around, it seemed like a lot of timed passed before play rehearsals actually started.
Kazunari: True, it's been fulfilling, but also a lot of hard work~.
Muku: Kazu-kun has been working on a lot of other projects too, huh.
Yuki: The play's been running side by side with work.
Tenma: But if you can pull this off, doesn't that mean you're ready to juggle all kinds of things as an UMC?
Kazunari: That's right~! So I've gotta see this to the end!
Yuki: Kazunari, your scarf's crooked. (fixes it)
Kazunari: Oh, thanks!
Kazunari: These costumes Yukki made for us are super cute, I'm getting hyped!
Muku: Come to think of it, the costumes this time around pretty modern and kind of fresh, don't you think? They don't even feel like costumes.
Misumi: So stylish~.
Kumon: I wanna go out like this in daily life!
Yuki: Absolutely not. They'll get dirty.
Kumon: Boo~.
Manager: We're about to begin!
Kazunari: Well then, let's huddle around.
Tenma: Take it away, leader.
Kazunari: Mm~, well, our usual Summer Troupe chant is nice, but this timeăŒăŒ.
Kazunari: "We're not bound to someone else's idea of value, so let's deliver something that'll leave a lasting impression on each and every person who sees it!"
Kumon: YeahăŒ!
Izumi: (The stage this time is set at Sky Gallery, which is rumored to bring good luck to the college-aged painters who exhibit there.)
Izumi: (Aspiring painters gather here, believing in the jinx that, if they hold a solo-exhibition here as newcomers, their work will sell and they'll be blessed with good fortune...)
Aoumi: "Great work, Sakurada-kun. The exhibition was a huge success."
Aoumi: "It's quite amazing that even though it's only your second exhibition, nearly all of your works sold. Your fan base is steadily growingăŒăŒ."
Sakurada: "Oh, I..."
Aoumi: "Sakurada-kun?"
Sakurada: "Just like I thought, I can't sell them..."
Aoumi: "Eh....?"
Sakurada: "All of my works are like my precious children! To think that I... I would do such a horrible thing as selling them is..."
Sakurada: "Everyone is going to be so saddddd..... I'm sorry! It's all my fault! But I can't agree to selling them!"
Sakurada: "Even if I have to live on water and bean sprouts again, we'll always be together...!"
Customer: "H-Huh? Um, isn't this for sale?"
Sakurada: "I'm sorry! Nothing's for sale! Please go home! I'll protect you, babies!"
Shirato: "H-Hang on now..."
Aoumi: "Sakurada-kun, please calm down!"
Sakurada: "Aoumi-san, if it were you, could you do such a terrible thingăŒsell your own children!?"
Aoumi: "W-Why wouldn't I...?"
Sakurada: "You'd want to take care of them yourself, right!?"
Aoumi: "U-Um, well, I guess so..."
Shirato: "Aoumi-san! Don't let him coax you!"
Aoumi: "Ah, sorry, sorry."
Sakurada: "I'm sorry, Aoumi-san. I know you've done a lot for me with this exhibition... But still, I...."
Aoumi: "Sakurada-kun, I understand your overflowing love for your artwork. In fact, I think that's their charm."
Aoumi: "But one day, your children are going to leave the nest."
Aoumi: "I believe that all of the artwork displayed here are filled with Sakurada-kun's love. They have the power to spread their wings and journey into the world."
Aoumi: "Don't you want to see your children leave the nest, find their own place in the world, and empower others?"
Sakurada: "Oh... I see... You're right. This is their chance to be independent.... Oh, I'm such an idiot!"
Sakurada: "I'm a failure as a parent! I'm so stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
Aoumi: "I-It's okay. Please settle down."
Customer: "Um... So, can I buy it after all?"
Shirato: "Of course, sir. I'll take care of it for you."
Customer: "A-Alright."
Aoumi: "We look forward to seeing you again."
Shirato: ".....I was wondering if he'd do this again."
Aoumi: "Yeah, Sakurada-kun did this at his last solo-exhibition too, huh..."
Shirato: "So troublesome..."
Shinonome: "HeyyyăŒ."
Aoumi: "Oh, Shinonome-kun, welcome. Your reputation proceeds you these days."
Shinonome: "Heh, thanks to youuuăŒ."
Aoumi: "I'm glad I could help. Shirato-kun, could you fix us some tea, please?"
Shirato: "Yes."
Shinonome: "Shirato?"
Shirato: "Ah..."
Shinonome: "AhhhăŒ!! It's ShiratoooăŒ!! What're you doing hereeeăŒ!?"
Shirato: "....Long time no see."
Aoumi: "You two know each other?"
Shinonome: "We were friends in high school~. We were in the same art clubbbăŒ!"
Shirato: "I didn't know you were having a solo-exhibition here, Shinonome."
Shinonome: "I didn't know you worked here either, ShiratoooăŒ! Didn't you get a job after high school?"
Shirato: "Ah, well, a lot happened."
Shinonome: "I see~. But I'm happy I get to work with Shirato againnnăŒ."
Shirato: "Not really, I'm just an apprentice."
Aoumi: "Why don't you join in on our meeting, Shirato-kun? It's about time for you to learn about beginning projects."
Shirato: "Eh....."
Shinonome: "Yay~! Let's get to work!"
-
Tsuzuru: (I wrote the up-and-painter, Shinonome, after Ikaruga-san's image....)
Tsuzuru: (I knew it, he fits him perfectly. It's like he brightens up the stage itself.)
Izumi: (After meeting with Shinonome, another college student brings his work to the gallery...)
Aoumi: "I'm Aoumi, the owner of Sky Gallery. It's nice to meet you."
Shirato: "I'm Shirato."
Moegi: "N-N-N-N-N-Nice to meet you, I'm Moegi."
Aoumi: "Let's get right to it, then. May I see your portfolio?"
Moegi: "Y-Yes! Um, this is-AWAHHăŒ!"
(thud)
Shirato: "You okay...?"
Moegi: "T-Thank you."
Aoumi: "Well then, I'll take a look."
Moegi: "U-Um.....What do you think?"
Aoumi: "I think these are really good! You have a wonderful attention to detail."
Aoumi: "These works are close to people's daily lives, I'm sure our customer's will enjoy them."
Moegi: "Really...! I love this painting, too! Oh, also, this one has a really good color balanceăŒ."
Aoumi: "Yes, yes. I agree."
Moegi: "And this, this painting has a cloud motif..."
Moegi: "The gap between the exterior and interior appearance of the clouds expresses the inner and outer aspects of human beings..."
Aoumi: "Mhm. We'll definitely hold a solo-exhibition for you."
Moegi: "Oh..... Um.... I'm sorry.... I'm not doing that...."
Aoumi: "Huh?"
Moegi: "I'm very sorry! Excuse me!"
(moegi runs away)
Aoumi: "Ah, waităŒăŒ."
-
Juza: (Muku can play a role like that so naturally.... That'd be a hard one for me to play.)
Izumi: (Following Moegi's sudden exit, another art student arrives...)
Aoumi: "These are good. I think many customers will appreciate the fact that the head-on seriousness in which you tackle themes is very apparent."
Yamabuki: "Exactly! I think they're really good too!"
Yamabuki: "This painting tackles the theme using a multifaceted motif, it's incredibly deep!"
Yamabuki: "The more you look at it, the more you see, allowing you to approach the theme from many different angles!"
Aoumi: "Yes, yes. Let's hold a solo exhibition together."
Yamabuki: "Ah... Um...."
Aoumi: "What is it?"
Yamabuki: "That...... I can't do! Excuse me!"
(yamabuki runs away)
Aoumi: "Ehh....."
Shirato: "Is this some kind of fad."
Aoumi: "Like ding-dong-ditch....?"
Shirato: "I mean, how rude is that? You shouldn't even bother with them."
Aoumi: "Err... Maybe there's some circumstances we don't know about, and after all, it's always up to the artist to decide what happens with their work."
Shirato: "Well, that's true, but still."
Aoumi: "However, I feel that everyone, famous or not, has a desire to share their work with others. It's an expression of themselves."
Aoumi: "And more than anything, I feel their artwork is asking to be seen.... We'll check again, and if that doesn't work, I'll give up."
-
Sakurada: "Hello....."
Aoumi: "Oh, Sakurada-kun, about the other dayăŒăŒ.
Sakurada: "I'm so sorry!!! I apologize for all the trouble I caused, again..... "
Sakurada: "I told myself I would be happy to send my children away this time, but I was still regretful, so I just couldn't accept ităŒăŒ."
Aoumi: "That's all right. That's a part of your work."
Sakurada: "Aoumi-san......!"
Aoumi: "Well, settle down, but keep up the good work."
Sakurada: "Of course! Now, if you'll excuse me."
Sakurada: "Huh? This portfolio..."
Aoumi: "Ah, yes. A university art student had brought it to me because he wanted to hold a solo-exhibition."
Sakurada: "Heâs my junior."
Aoumi: "Really? His name is Yamabuki-sanâ"
Sakurada: "This is Moegiâs."
Aoumi: "Huh? Moegi-san?"
Sakurada: "Yeah, and if he holds a solo exhibition, Iâll definitely come and see it. Well, Iâll be off!"
Aoumi: "Oh, yesâŠ"
(sakurada leaves)
Shirato: "So⊠Yamabuki-san actually brought in Moegi-sanâs, huh."
Aoumi: "Then, whose work did Moegi-san bring"
Shirato: "âŠ.Itâs not the work of the same person."
Aoumi: "Certainly, the artstyles are way too different. The way they approach the theme too, is also differentâŠ."
Shirato: "In any case, you shouldnât trust someone who lies to you and brings in another artistâs portfolio."
Aoumi: "HmmâŠ."
Aoumi: "Iâm just going to drop off some flyers, have a quick meeting, and then we can head back."
Shirato: "WowâŠ. So this is what an art school looks like, huhâŠ."
Aoumi: "Huh? Those two, arenât theyââ"
Moegi: "Whyâd you do that? If it was Yamabukiâs work, it wouldâve been recognized the second you showed them your paintings."
Yamabuki: "No way, thatâs impossible. Thatâs why I brought your artwork, Moegi."
Moegi: "Itâs not impossible! Because, actually, Aoumi-san wants to hold a solo-exhibitionâŠ"
Yamabuki: "Huh? What do you mean?"
Moegi: "âŠ.Iâm sorry. I also presented your portfolio to Aoumi-san."
Aoumi: "AhhâŠ. So thatâs the case."
Shirato: "Arenât they two of a kind."
Moegi: "Aoumi-san!?"
Yamabuki: "Ah, Iâm sorry, Iââ"
Moegi: "Iâm sorry!"
Aoumi: "So, um, could you two explain the situation again?"
-
Aoumi: "So in other words, neither of you were confident in your own artwork, so you brought the otherâs portfolio out of instinct⊠is that right?"
Moegi: "I figured if it was Yamabukiâs, youâd definitely accept it. I wanted to see his solo exhibitionâŠ"
Moegi: "But he isnât confident in himself, and insisted that he wouldnât do itâŠ"
Moegi: "I wasnât aware he approached Aoumi-san with the same plan."
Yamabuki: "Thatâs my line. You always said it was impossible for you to ever hold a solo exhibition, even though Iâve told you over and over again youâd be fine."
Shirato: "Thereâs no limit to their similaritiesâŠ"
Aoumi: "Their artstyles are a different story, though."
Moegi: "Well, now that thatâs cleared up, Iâm going to decline my solo exhibition offer."
Aoumi: "Eh!?"
Yamabuki: "Same here, Aoumi-sanâs recognition is enough for me. Nobody would come if I held a solo exhibition, anywayâŠ."
Yamabuki: "And even if they did, Iâm sure theyâd look at Aoumi-san like heâs made a mistake, then run out of there as fast as they could."
Moegi: "Mine would be endlessly torn apart on social media, and even though I couldnât bear to see, I wouldnât be able to stop doomscrollingââ."
Moegi: "The only way for it to stop would be for me to drop out of college."
Aoumi: "Theyâre also both extremely specific pessimistsâŠ!"
Shirato: "Well, we canât force them to hold solo exhibitions."
Aoumi: "But, you both voluntarily came to Sky Gallery, right?"
Aoumi: "So donât you have a desire to display your work there?"
Moegi: "ThatâsâŠ"
Yamabuki: "WellâŠ"
Aoumi: "But, your lack of confidence is getting in the way."
Moegi: "Yes."
Aoumi: "However, on the flip side, Moegi-san recognizes Yamabuki-sanâs artwork, and vice-versa."
Moegi: "Yamabuki should definitely hold a solo exhibition!"
Yamabuki: "If itâs Moegiâs artwork, everyone will absolutely come to see it!"
Aoumi: "In that case, why doesnât Moegi-san exhibit Yamabuki-sanâs work, and Yamabuki-san exhibit Moegi-sanâs?"
Moegi: "EhâŠ.?"
Yamabuki: "ThatâsâŠ.?"
Aoumi: "Of course, this time, please credit the true artist."
Aoumi: "Since itâs the otherâs artwork, which you are confident in, donât you think that could work?"
Aoumi: "Then we can treat it like a two-person exhibition."
Moegi: "If Yamabuki's work is there too, people would come... and they'd be so entranced by his work, maybe they'd gloss right over mine...."
Yamabuki: "If Moegi's work is also there... everyone would go home half satisfied... we'd might even make it out with mixed reviews...."
Moegi: "Alright, I'll do it!"
Yamabuki: "Pleased to be working with you!"
Aoumi: "Let's do our best."
-
Taichi: (This time, Mu-chan and Yuki-chan play similar roles~.)
Taichi: (Their heights are about the same, and Yuki-chan's character complements Mu-chan's perfectly!)
Shirato: "Why do you go to such lengths for people who are such a pain in the ass?"
Aoumi: "I simply want more people to experience fine artwork."
Aoumi: "And I want artists to know the power of their work. Because that feeling, can only be truly understood when art is shared with others..."
Aoumi: "That's why I run this gallery, to experience that moment. Well, I got that line from my father, but the sentiment remains."
Shirato: "You inherited the gallery from your father, right?"
Aoumi: "Correct. Like Shirato-kun, I also worked as an assistant. It took a long time, but that's how I learned the job."
Shirato: "A gallery of your own, and in such a prime location too, I envy you."
Aoumi: "Yes, that's thanks to my father. It does add a lot of pressure to the job, though."
Shirato: "......"
-
Izumi: (After the successful end of Moegi and Yamabuki's two-person exhibition, preparations begin for Shinonome's solo exhibition....)
Aoumi: "Has Shinonome-kun contacted you?"
Shirato: "Nope, nothing."
Aoumi: "This is strange... It's already 30 minutes past our meeting time.... No matter how much I call him he doesn't answer...."
Shirato: "Well, he's always late."
Aoumi: "I'm worried that we can't get in touch with him."
Aoumi: "And if we don't decide on an invitation design soon, we won't have enough time to get them printed and distributed."
Aoumi: "Plus I still need his main painting, but I haven't heard an update on that either."
Shirato: "That reminds me... Back in high school, he suddenly missed school and didn't even return home. He was missing for a few days, the police had to end up getting involved."
Aoumi: "Ehh!? Oh, that would be a disaster... Let's hurry up and look for him."
Shirato: "For now, how about we head to his place?"
Aoumi: "Good idea."
Aoumi: "Shinonome-kun! Shinonome-kun, are you there!? There's no response...."
Shirato: "I just checked, and it doesnât look like he's been to college either."
Aoumi: "Then, maybe his parents' house...?"
Shirato: "I don't know. His parents basically spend all of their time overseas."
Aoumi: "I see. Oh, where could he be.... Maybe if we give him a few days he'll return."
Shirato: "Speaking of, when I found him in high school, he was nearly freezing to death on a riverbed."
Aoumi: "That's definitely a pattern we don't want to repeat...! We need to keep looking for him, but it'll be dark soon..."
Shirato: "I'll take you to the different places he likes."
Aoumi: "Please do!"
Aoumi: "There he is...!"
Shinonome: "Ahh, you found meeeeăŒ. I was just about to make my beddddăŒ."
Shirato: "Quit building here. The cops are gonna arrest you again."
Shinonome: "You always find me, ShiratoooăŒ. Why's thatttăŒ?"
Shirato: "...Nothing special, I just know you. You're usually near your favorite scenery."
Shinonome: "That's rightttăŒ. As expected of Shirato!"
Aoumi: "Your favorite scenery.... I see. It's quite rugged, I can see how Shinonome-kun chose this as a motif for his artwork."
Shirato: "Why'd you skip the meeting."
Shinonome: "Umm, because the weather's nice today?"
Shirato: "Shinonome..."
Shinonome: "Sorry, sorryyyăŒ. The truth is, I couldn't make any progress on my main painting at alllllăŒ."
Aoumi: "Ehh!? But, we need to finalize the invitations soon..."
Shinonome: "I'll bring the painting to you on opening day, so please just find a way to design them somehowwwăŒ."
Aoumi: "I understand. Please focus on your piece, Shinonome-kun."
Shinonome: "Thank youuuăŒ."
(aoumi and shirato walk away)
Shirato: "You sure you can trust him? That guy's got no concept of deadlines."
Aoumi: "Still, it's his exhibition. If he isn't satisfied with the art he created, it's not worth displaying."
-
Izumi: (The first day of the exhibition arrives...)
Aoumi: "Shirato-kun, any word from Shinonome-kun?"
Shirato: "Not yet."
Aoumi: "We're about to open. At this rate, the main wall will be..."
Shirato: "What do we do?"
Aoumi: "Customers are already lining up, we've got no choice to open. I'll explain the situation to our customers."
(aoumi walks away)
Aoumi: "Thank you for visiting. Before we open, I'd like to apologize to all of youăŒăŒ."
Shirato: "Aoumi-san, it's here!"
Aoumi: "Eh?"
Shirato: "The painting, it's arrived."
Aoumi: "Really!?"
Aoumi: "Pardon me, everyone. Please wait a moment!"
-
Aoumi: "So this is Shinonome-kun's latest work... It's wonderful."
Aoumi: "It's got a slightly different atmosphere than usual, I'd like to hear if he's had any change of heart. Where is Shinonome-kun?"
Shirato: "He's not here, it arrived by courier."
Aoumi: "Is that so. Then, I suppose he'll stop by later."
-
Aoumi: "Now, it's time to begin closingăŒăŒ."
Shinonome: "Sorryyy, I'm late."
Aoumi: "Shinonome-kun! Thank you for all of your hard work. Your latest piece is safe andăŒăŒWhat's that painting for?"
Shinonome: "I finally finished it, so I came bring it to youuuăŒ. I made it in time for opening day, rightttăŒ."
Aoumi: "Eh? But, then the painting that arrived this morningăŒăŒ."
Shinonome: "HuhhhăŒ? That? That's not mine."
Aoumi: "What....? Well, then, whose...?
-
Shirato: "I didn't verify the courier company. I'm so sorry...."
Aoumi: "It's not your fault, Shirato-kun. I explained the situation to the customer who bought it, and they understood."
Shirato: "I'm sorry but, I.... I'm quitting my part-time job here."
Aoumi: "Huh? Oh, no, Shirato-kun, you don't need to feel responsibleăŒăŒ."
Shirato: "Excuse me."
(shirato runs away)
Aoumi: "Shirato-kun!"
-
(phone ringing)
Aoumi: "....He's not answering his phone, huh. I wonder if he was originally planning on quitting. He always so helpful and hardworking..."
Aoumi: "And a forgery, on top of everything. Honestly, I think it's perfection, and the artstyle is so similar... I wonder who painted it."
(knocking)
Shinonome: "AhhăŒ, Aoumin. Nice workkkăŒ."
Aoumi: "Thank you for all of your hard work for the solo exhibition. It was another huge success."
Shinonome: "Thanks to youuuăŒ."
Aoumi: "Shinonome-kun, about the forgery, has that ever happened before?"
Shinonome: "UmmmăŒ. Don't think soooăŒ. I'm not that famous, y'knowwwăŒ."
Aoumi: "I see... Are they any students at your art school with a similar artstyle?"
Shinonome: "Not that I've seennnăŒ. Come to think of it, where's Shirato? He didn't come with you todayyyăŒ?"
Aoumi: "What? Didn't you hear? Shirato-kun quit."
Shinonome: "EhhhăŒ!? Really!? ......That sucksssăŒ."
Shinonome: "That guy, he suddenly quit the art club during our third year of high school, tooooăŒ. Even though he was a better artist than meeeăŒ. He quit painting."
Aoumi: "Really?"
Shinonome: "Look, this was the art club's exhibit at the school festivalllăŒ. So nostalgicccăŒ."
Aoumi: "Wow, I see your artstyle was already establishing itself. By the way, what's this one?"
Shinonome: "Oh, that's Shirato's painting."
Aoumi: "Shirato-kun's..."
Shinonome: "I'm pretty sure I have moreeeăŒ. Ah, this one, that one, this one over here..."
Aoumi: "The artstyle's a bit different, but the motif is similar to yours."
Shinonome: "YeahhhăŒ. When I'm sketching, I always turn to them for inspirationnnăŒ."
Aoumi: "Then, could the artist of the forgery beăŒăŒ."
-
Shirato: "I painted it. I'm sorry."
Aoumi: "I figured... But, why?"
Shirato: "I wanted Aoumi-san to acknowledge my art."
Shirato: "In high school, I joined the art club. I dreamed of going to art school and continuing painting."
Shirato: "But, I couldn't. I couldn't afford it, and my parents hated the idea..."
Shirato: "So, when Shinonome obviously went on to art school, I was envious of him. But, at the same time, I was angry."
Shirato: "Is everything determined by my own efforts, or something that's completely out of my control?"
Shirato: "Honestly, I didn't really trust Aoumi-san either, at first."
Shirato: "The person who made Sky Gallery so great, wasn't you, it was your father."
Shirato: "I thought even if I got a part time job here, I was going to quit as soon as I ever made something of myself."
Shirato: "But, when I saw how seriously you take your job, and the care you extend to each artist, I was so ashamed of myself..."
Shirato: "Even so, I wanted to see if my own painting would be accepted by you, Aoumi-san."
Shirato: "I thought that if you recognized it, I could let go of painting without regret."
Aoumi: "Shirato-kun, your artwork must be properly presented to the world, as your own. Lies will never touch anyone's hearts."
Aoumi: "Please show me your work, as the real Shirato-kun. I want you to learn the power of your artwork, too."
Shirato: "Aoumi-san.... Thank you."
-
Kazunari: Thanks, everyone!
Tenma: Thank you for coming.
Misumi: Thank you~!

Enstars!! Summer Snow: Chapter 7
Enstars!! Gacha Scout Story: Summer Snow - Chapter 7
Ibara: Mistaking kindness for naivety is laughable, Shinkai-shi.
Season: Summer
Location: Drawing Room
Ibara: I mean every word Iâve said.
If my assumption is correct, that consultant of yours is most likely leaking information to the rival aquarium.
Kanata: wait a minute. there must be some kind of mistake. he âsincerelyâ gave me management advice.
i canât simply dismiss him without a valid reason.
Ibara: Ahahahahaâ Sincere? Even I could immediately do such a thing you know? By feigning it, if thatâs fine with you.
Hinata: Errm, what in the world are you talking about? Why are you doubting that person, Vice Prez?
Ibara: Shinkai-shi, hasnât Akashio Aquarium been gaining more profit ever since your consultant approached you?
Kanata: well⊠itâs true that it was around that time...
however, that reason alone is not enough.
Ibara: Please wait a moment⊠Itâd be easier to explain things with visual representation through the PC monitor.
âIf you could please take a look at the monitor, this is the vicinity map of âAoumi Aquariumâ and the map of the interior.
This aquarium only has one single shop built. Itâs not like thereâs a shortage in space, right?
Just glancing at the interiorâs map, there are still quite a number of areas that can be considered as dead space[1].
The profit ratio from selling merch is good, so I highly recommend it.
We could segment the inventory of the souvenir shop per species and arrange the items displayed in accordance to the immediate near-by aquatic animal.
In turn, itâd make people want to buy and you would directly earn revenue.
Then thereâs little to no resting areas and benches in proportion to how large the space is. The visitor demographic mostly is made up of families.
Which means the demographic are not only younger people who could move around all day.
Please increase the amount of resting areas by double of what you currently have. That alone would correlate to customer satisfaction and increased amounts of returning visitors.
Lastly, thereâs no space to dine anywhere. Iâll be able to do something about that when I manage to start the land development, but right now there is practically nothing.
The only place to dine around the area is the train station and youâd have to go back to do so. Thereâs a limit on convenience!
Well, when the large-scale shopping mall is finished, I believe that problem will be cleared.
Itâs a win-win situation since the mallâs customers would be the aquarium visitors.
But itâs not like weâll be able to immediately build the shopping mall, so... Letâs see here...
We could permit food stalls and food trucks to conduct business around the aquarium, just until the mall is completely built.
I will oversee and prepare those for you. Iâll be quite grateful if I could host a food-related event similar to a food bazaar!
Hinata: O-Oooh⊠I see...
Kanata: oh i see it now~ âscalesâ fell out of my eyesÂČ. itâs scary when that happens right? you wonât be able to regulate the moisture anymore.
Ibara: What are you talking about? Are you a half-mermaid or something of the sort, Shinkai-shi
Moreover, that proverb is originally from the New Testament and itâs not that scales actually fell off[2].
In any case, let's get back to the topic on hand. To tell you the truth, I overheard your conversation with Hinata-kun and Sakuma-shi the other day.
Kanata: eh? at that time? so you were also there, mr. sea serpent.
Ibara: Yes. I happened to overhear it during my break. Based on what Iâve heard back then, I had a feeling it was quite suspicious.
Just a quick glance over the data was enough for me to spot multiple problematic points.. If we were to examine the details of other data, there would surely be more points we could improve on.
Are you sure itâs alright for your consultant to ignore all these areas of improvement?
A typical consultant would never suggest a downscale or property sale as a solution, when that should only be your last resort.
Kanata: ...
Hinata: Oh maaan~ You mean we clearly got duped by that person?
Ibara: Unfortunately, you did. Rather Shinkai-shi, havenât you already had an inkling he has been deceiving you?
You didnât have any concrete proof, yet you still had your doubts⊠But your conscience held you back, all while you tried to lie to yourselfâis my assumption correct?
Kanata: ...
Rei: What Saegusa-kun says is true.
Kanata: rei.
Hinata: What the? Sakuma-senpai appeared this time around?
Rei: Here. I did say I'll do some investigation regarding Akashio Aquariums right? That right there are my findings. I apologize for overhearing a part of your conversation.Â
I had an acquaintance of mine investigate and according to the intel gathered, the business consultant youâve hired frequently enters Akashio Aquariums as he pleases.
The consultantâs true client is âAkashio Aquariumâ from the looks of it. Hereâs the data for that information, the evidence for it is also included.
Ibara: Confirming the data immediately. ...Oh dear, the timing when they entered the building was captured perfectly. This evidence is more than enough!
Kanata: ...it really is unfortunate.
Ibara: Mistaking kindness for naivety is laughable, Shinkai-shi.
None but the brave deserve the fair[3]; if this were a real battlefield, you wonât be able to truly protect the things you hold dear if youâve never suffered any wounds.
âPlease make your decision.
Kanata: ...you're right. i must also steel myself and see this through until the very end.
okay, i will settle this within the day.
Hinata: Uhh, so no oneâs gonna get in our way now, right?
If thatâs the case, the only thing thatâs left is to think of an alternative to our scrapped event.Â
But man, arenât we in way more trouble with this part? Thereâs literally no time left before the event launch.
Ibara: True. Dealing with obstruction and harassment only requires searching for the root cause and immediately eliminating it; coming up with an alternative idea however, is more troublesome.
It is a battle of whose idea works best after all.
Hinata: Kinda makes sense that itâs a battle of creativity now that you mentioned it~ Hmmmm~...
Rei: I am not well-versed in giving ideas revolving around entertainment. If it were Hibiki-kun however, he might be able to think of something on the fly.
Kanata: heâd definitely suggest displaying some kind of living fossil, so i refuse to ask for his help.
Rei: Itâs quite frightening that I canât refute what you just said...
Ibara: Hmrmmm⊠this might not be a direct solution, but I have some conditions in mind that would allow the business to succeed.
Kanata: what kind of condition?
Ibara: Letâs see. Something that isnât seasonal for starters. I think for the most part that would be cleared already since this recreational facility is an aquarium.
Then something that wonât cost much on our capital investment. The best substitute for that would be using the current equipment we have on hand.
From there we also must keep in mind our lossesâmeaning there should be little to no leftover from our inventories.
So, itâd be for the best if we somehow manage to come up with an idea that clears all of those conditions...
Kanata: something that wonât cost too much⊠with little to no lossâŠ? hmmmâŠ
...ah! i just thought of something! then how about what if we do this?
âDead spaceâ in interior design refers to an area where the said space has nothing that catches our attention, be it a feature wall or how the smaller details such as furniture are arranged in a very attentive manner in relation to the overall design and location of the space.
Kanata said an idiom which is âMy eyes has been openedâ or âI see the light nowâ in the original passage ăăăăăăăăăăăĄăŸăăïœăThis idiom is in-relation to what Ibara retorted in the next line that it was a proverb in the New Testament of the Bible (specifically Acts 9:18) and that specific skit is more of Kanata being the funny man and Ibara the straight man in those dialogues, strictly speaking.
The saying èăćăăăŠéȘšăæ〠(Lit. Meaning: âCut the flesh, server the boneâ) is often used in battles in the warring periods, as well as in Kendo in the recent times, which means that âOne is willing to risk themselves in the line of fire in order to deal even larger damage than what the formidable opponent you are currently facing has dealt upon you.â This particular saying is also used in the field of business too aside from Kendo, as it parallels âthe higher the risk is, the higher the rewards will beâ aspect of business, specifically in trying to have a better product than your business rivals would offer.

Enstars!! Summer Snow: Chapter 5
Enstars!! Gacha Scout Story: Summer Snow - Chapter 5
Kanata: yes. i don't trust you at all; if anything, you're "fishy" for a snake~
Season: Summer
Location: Drawing Room
Ibara: Please, make yourselves at home! Our conversation here wonât be leaked outside; this is the unrivalled drawing room of ES afterall!
My apologies for suddenly calling you out of nowhere! I definitely am not a suspicious person. Allow me to introduce myself. (hands Kanata a business card)
Hinata: Uhm, Vice Prez? I'm pretty sure Shinkai-senpai knows about you; even though we belong to different agencies, we are ES-affiliated idols.
Ibara: Oh dear! Your way of thinking is still naive, Hinata-kun. This is just proper business etiquette[1]. It would do you good to remember this. Â
You must properly identify yourself in front of the client, even if they are aware of your existence. Otherwise it would be rude and you cannot gain their trust!
Once again, I am Saegusa Ibara! Saegusa is written as "seven seeds."[2] Quite an unusual family name, right?
I am a member of Eden, the vice president of CosPro, business manager and many more. Iâm sure you mustâve heard quite a few things about myself however.
Both my career and my official position are listed on the back of the business card, please feel free to take a look at it when you have the time!
Kanata: thank you~ i shall accept your business card.
i am âshinkai kanataâ~ i have heard about you, but this is the first time we've spoken to each other, mr. "sea serpent."
Ibara: Ahahah! Were you listening to what I said just now?
This is the first time someone simply ignored the entirety of my self-introduction.
Kanata: hm~ but other people have been calling you a âsnake,â you see~. so snakes in the sea are called âsea serpents,â you know?
Ibara: Iâm not quite sure I follow what youâre saying...
Ibara: (Shinkai Kanataâheâs more astounding than I imagined. So this is what itâs like to be baptized by one of the Eccentrics huh; understanding them is on a different level of difficulty compared to His Excellency.
With that said, I must not let Shinkai-shiâs mood turn sour. I should come up with a plan to accommodate him.)
Ibara: Oh I see, I understand it now! Dear me, that's quite the humor you have, Shinkai-shi!
Well, I donât mind what you call me; be it sea snake or sea angel[3], call me whatever you prefer.
In the end, names are simply nothing more than identification numbers.
Hinata: Ahaha. The Vice Prez as a âclioneâ sounds kinda funny. Heâs so different from the image of a being known as an âangel in flowing waterâ.
Kanata: thatâs not true at all. while a âclioneâ normally would look very cute, their appearance while hunting for prey is quite astonishing~
Hinata: Interesting. Then it might not be entirely wrong if thatâs the caseâ...
Ibara: âŠ
Hinata: Whoops! It's Vice Prez's scary smile. I'm sooorry. I'll stay quiet~...
Ibara: Ahem âCan we proceed with the discussion now?
While we were changing location, I heard of your current situation inside the car.
So the main point here is that you wish to revitalize Aoumi Aquarium which is currently under your management, correct Shinkai-shi?
Kanata: yes. that is what my aim is.
Ibara: Aye aye! Please leave it up to me, if that's the case!
While I may look inexperienced, I certainly have some experience in these kinds of situations. I believe I can be of help to you, Shinkai-shi!
I actually obtained intel from somewhere that youâre currently facing a dilemma.
I couldnât help but not overlook it since you are a fellow ES-affiliated idol in trouble, and I made the decision to approach you.
I shall come up with an arrangement that ensures that Akashio Aquarium cannot interfere with your business,
And I will also bring both profit and customers to Aoumi Aquarium! How about it?
Kanata: hmmmm~... i wonder about that~...
Ibara: Whatâs this? Is there something youâre hesitant about? Could it be that you donât trust me, or something similar perhaps?
Kanata: yes. i don't trust you at all; if anything, you're "fishy" for a snake~
Hinata: Eh? Thatâs how it was all along? You easily followed him all the way here, so I thought you planned on taking up his offer.
Kanata: nope~ iâve had my fair share of people who wanted to exploit me.
mr. sea serpent somewhat emits the same "smell," so i don't trust him.
Ibara: Oh my, quite the harsh words there! Looks like I was a step too late, ahahahaâ
Ibara: (The fact that heâs already on guard around me even though he willingly followed me back only shows just how much of a dire situation heâs in at the moment.
I wonder how I should approach him from here...
Maybe I should pretend to give him what he wants and control him behind the scenes, like Iâve alwaysâ)
Kanata: what âadvantageâ will you get here, mr. sea serpent?
Ibara: ...Pardon?
Kanata: your advantage should i agree to cooperateâ in other words, your "merit."
there isn't any merit for you with what youâve discussed so far. isn't that a bit strange?
sometimes, there are people like chiaki whoâd easily lend a helping hand to just about anybody, without thinking what they could earn out of helping others.
but mr. sea serpent is different from chiaki; you're "very fishy" if you ask me.
Ibara: Ahahahah. It seems like you're extremely on your guard towards me huh!
Ibara: (Even though he appears to frequently space out, he is still a business owner, huh.
I thought I could easily manipulate him if heâs the type to agree to helping a friend in need... Hmm⊠Well then, what shall we do here.
⊠âDesire too much, let it get to your head and youâll meet failure,â huh.)
Ibara: Very well. Letâs approach with a different tactic than usual this time so that we may sound the horns of victory. Itâll be different from the times when His Excellency would say things and I have to deal with whatever happens.
Kanata: what was that?
Ibara: âNothing. I'm just talking to myself!
Why don't we stop with the pleasantries and cut to the chase then. It's fair business discussions from here out.
ććșäș€æ or Buisiness Card Exchange is a very important culture in the Japanese Work Culture as it is a formal introduction that signifies the beginning of a formal business relationship between two companies, and is a sign of respect to the other party. This also signifies the importance of each individual in a company when working towards the same goal. While the Western working culture would prefer by default to have their information over on their social media, Japan treats each beginning of utmost importance and thus treats the business card itself as an extension of the person presenting the card. There are many rules and details one has to be mindful of when exchanging business cards but that is the importance and cultural significance behind it.
For in-depth information, please refer to the translatorâs notes here for this particular part about Ibaraâs family name.
Sea Angels are the common name for âclionesâ while the word âClioneâ itself refers to Genus of this specific marine life. Technically either of these terms arenât wrong as the passage is a play of words towards Ibara himself.

Enstars!! Summer Snow: Chapter 2
Enstars!! Gacha Scout Story: Summer Snow - Chapter 2
Hinata: Yiiikkeeeeesss!? So the rumors are true! Sakuma-senpai, s-save me pleeaaasse~!
Season: Summer
Location: Hanging Garden
Hinata: So the rumor started here at the hanging garden, right? That would mean itâs this pond right here; itâs the only body of water up here anyway~
Rei: It seems so. Iâm relieved itâs just a pond. Iâm not exactly good with flowing waters.
That being said, Iâll try calling him out.
Heeey~ Shinkai-ku~n, it is I. Could you show yourself for a while~?
Hinata: Whaaâ thereâs tons of bubbles surfacing from underwaterâ?
Kanata: (Gasp) i have successfully seized this child. i will drag him down under the water at this rate.
Hinata: Yiiikkeeeeesss!? So the rumors are true! Sakuma-senpai, s-save me pleeaaasse~!
Rei: Now now, let him go. You shouldnât assault our juniors. Calm down will you, Shinkai-kun.
Kanata: rei. you want me to return this child to you you want me to, right?
then leave the âmoneyâ there in exchange for this child.
Rei: So you really are resorting to ransomâŠ!? Why on earth are you doing this? Youâre supposed to be a very gentle child, correct? This isnât like you.
Kanata: kindness alone cannot protect âanything.â i have sold my soul to the demons. i am no longer the person you once knew.
Rei: You sold your soul to demons besides I? How mean of you to be influenced by all kinds of evil more than myself. Youâre making me lose face here, you know!Â
Hinata: Uh, guys!? Are you just fooling around!?
This isnât funny, please save me already! Sakuma-senpaiii~!
Kanata: iâm juuust kidding. iâm sorry if i spooked you out of nowhere, okay?
Hinata: Uh, huh? He let go of me just like that...
Rei: Now Shinkai-kun, youâve repeatedly done the same thing to other people, correct? A strange rumor has surfaced because of that.
Kanata: is that so? how strange, even though I easily let them go~?
Hinata: I think the creepiness level went up a notch more than it shouldâyou keep suddenly rising from underwater, catching people passing-by then casually letting them go.
Actually, why are you doing this kind of thing anyway?
Rei: ES will quickly become known as a haunted location rather than an idol agency at this rate.
Kanata: please don't talk about this like i'm doing some sort of scare prank. i am serious about it.
Rei: All the more important that we shouldnât turn a blind eye to your actions, so to speak. Youâre only incriminating yourself as a degenerate.
Anyhow, does that mean youâre currently in an inescapable predicament if youâre resorting to these kinds of actions?
What happened? Why not discuss this with us right here? We might be able to help you in some way; when thereâs a will, thereâs a way.
Kanata: no⊠this is my own problem to solve, so i donât think talking about it will help.
but, worrying everyone by not telling them anything isnât good. kaoru will get mad at me again[1].
the truth is⊠the aquarium i am currently in-charge of is in a pinch right now.
Rei: Hm? By that, do you mean that aquarium your family owns[1] perhaps?
Hinata: Was it the one we went to before? I think the name was âAoumi Aquarium.â
Kanata: yes, that's the one~
the aquarium now has a business rival, and most of the customers of my aquarium have been going there instead.
you could say iâm facing âfinancial difficulties.â
Hinata: Ah, you mean that newly established big aquarium, right?
Rei: Huh. I seldomly walk outside, so Iâm not well-versed with places like these recreational facilities you speak of. So such a place exists now, huh.
Hinata: Yeah. Theyâve used a lot of money on various media platforms to do extensive advertisement, so they must have quite the backing for it.
Uh⊠I think the name was related to the place itâs situated at...
Ah, I remember now. Itâs âAkashio Aquarium.â
Kanata: that's right. yuuta's older brother is very knowledgeable~
Hinata: Woah, youâre amazing, Shinkai-senpai~ Youâre able to tell Yuuta-kun and I apart!
Kanata: fufufu~. i'm good at those kinds of things.
besides, you and yuuta are only two people.
there are plenty of fish that look very similar, so telling apart two people is no problem~âȘ
Hinata: Did he just lump us together with fish!? If anything, youâre able to tell apart the face of each fish?
Yeah, I guess you would be able to tell us apart if you can do that....
Ah, but please call me by my name âHinataâ rather than âYuutaâs Big Brotherâ from now on.
Calling me âbig brotherâ is gonna be complicated, since lately, Yuuta-kun and I switch roles of who plays the eldest whenever we feel like it.
Kanata: really? i shall be calling you hinata then~âȘ
Rei: Now you two. Getting along is beautiful and all, but weâve strayed far away from the topic at hand.
Letâs get back to the discussion. So Akashio Aquarium has been taking most of your customers and because of that, Aoumi Aquarium has fallen down financially.
There is nothing you can do about your current situation so you resorted to extorting others⊠is that what youâre saying?
Kanata: hmph. i havenât extorted other people yet, just âattempted.â i do still badly want money though.
a âheroâ never robs from the weak. please don't underestimate me. h~mph.
Rei: That is only a step behind before committing the actual crime itself. You canât fool me with your cutesy act.
For an understanding behind this, please give the Enstars! event story Aquarium a read.
