Some observations about Mouthwashing
Spoilers ahead!
Ok so this game has got me so hyperfixated that I’m using Tumblr for the first time in like a year just to keep a tab with the Mouthwashing hashtag open so I can refresh it throughout the day and see what people are posting. That and my tab full of Danny AOD gifs. Anyway.
So I wanted to share some things I’ve noticed because I haven’t seen anyone else mention them and I want to seem smart and observant.
First off is the name Curly. Like it’s kind of a weird name. It’s unclear whether this is his first or last name because the writing on his id card is so burned and so cursive. It is worth noting that Curly is an actual name, meaning “strong man” or “great strength”. What stands out to me though, is that Laika, the dog who was sent into space, was actually named Kudrayavka originally, which means “Little Curly” (and a little fun fact, Laika means “barker”). Thematically, both of these make sense. I don’t know which one was intentional, if either. It’s entirely possible Curly as a name is a reference, or just a name the devs liked.
Secondly, Anya’s design is based off of Shelley Duvall in The Shining, most recognizable to most people for the scene where she’s hiding in the bathroom while Johnny breaks down the door. That being her most iconic scene really reminds me of Anya’s deal with doors, being unable to lock the door to her quarters, and then locking herself in medical while the others try to get her out.
Thirdly, and the one I find most interesting, is one of the videos that plays on the tv after the storage room is opened. It’s about atoms, and states that atoms make up everything, like shoes, and ships, and sealing wax, and cabbages, and kings. I don’t know if this video was chosen by the devs specifically for this quote, but for the purposes of my rambling I’m going to assume it was. This quote is a direct reference to The Walrus and the Carpenter, a poem by Lewis Carroll.
The poem is hyperlinked above (hopefully, Idrk how to use Tumblr), but I just want to post the segment that the quote from the video comes from.
“The time has come,' the Walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of shoes — and ships — and sealing-wax —
Of cabbages — and kings —
And why the sea is boiling hot —
And whether pigs have wings.'”
To briefly summarize the whole poem, though I highly recommend reading it for yourself as well because it’s really good, the Walrus and the Carpenter come across a group of oysters and ask them to join them for a walk. The oysters do, and the Walrus and the Carpenter walk with then a bit, before finally stopping, where the lines above happen. Right after this, the oysters ask to take a break, and the Walrus and the Carpenter agree to let them have the break - because they plan on eating the oysters. “And why the sea is boiling hot,” I believe, refers to the oysters being boiled in order to prepare them for consumption.
The Walrus says he pities the oysters, and wipes his tears away, while actively partaking in the consumption of the oysters. The poem ends with a statement that all of the oysters have been devoured.
So! Let’s focus on the Walrus here. Someone who leads innocents astray, boils/cooks them, and then eats them, all the while crying about how awful it is while doing nothing to abstain from eating them. Sound familiar? Sound like that guy we all hate? Little bit! I don’t know if it was an intentional bit of symbolism or not, but it’s super big brained if it was.
That’s all for now but I’m sure I’ll think of some more things later. I love this game. If u made it this far I really appreciate it, feel free to comment and let me know what you think
Also let me know how to tag a post as spoilers properly, I seriously do not use this site

Angels Earthbread plans/info kinda
I gotta lock in on making this AU/fanfic so heres some things about it (almost all of it is subject to change)
One of the only things NOT subject to change is the fact that Pure Vanilla Cookie doesn't know he is AoD. It got voted on and thats what the people chose, I can't change that. HOWEVER, I do have ANOTHER AU in the works based around the idea that he DOES know but its more wholesome and OC focused (its called the Angels of Destiny or ASoD AU). Not gonna be a fic but rather fun doodles and maybe some intense written moments if I feel like it.
The Beasts will be a major part of the AU and so will their followers.
This is most definitely not going to be similar to how it happens in game (even though the AU started off as a theory) because Shadow Milk escapes last in this AU and uh...Yeah we've already been told whats happening for the fourth anni.
The AU is planned to be long, like, I mean LONG. I plan to do 5k words minimum each chapter and I refuse to make it any less than 10 chapters long. It will most likely be longer if some of the things I plan does properly happen though (for example, the first few chapters are basically "prologue". I don't consider it properly started until AoD ACTUALLY appears because I want a majority of the fic to be about that).
It wil also have POV switches but the main focus will still be on Pure Vanilla Cookie.
While a lot of it is angst, I do plan on having there be comfort/soft moments inbetween because to me having too much angst for too long can just turn the reader apathetic.
This mfer will probably take me a WHILE to do! As much as I want to do it faster, I have NEVER written something so god damn long in my life! Thats why I wrote my test fic! There will probably be more test-fics between now and the first chapters release.
I plan on writing the entirety of the prologue and the first few chapters before I start posting the fic. It will hopefully have a bi-weekly schedule meaning that I would have to write about 5k word per every 2 weeks. I may have some chapters be "twin chapters" in which they release a week apart or even just release at the exact same time if I feel like it. Most likely won't happen often though.
I do not wish to spoil too much about the AU/fic but if theres any questions you have you are free to go and ask me and if I don't deem it a spoiler I will respond! If I do deem it a spoiler I will still respond but just like...Tell you that I can't say anything.
Lastly I also hope to have cover art for every chapter. Just something I think would be cool and make it stand out as unique.
The writing style for the fic will also be the same as my test fic Don't Do Sadness so if you have any opinions on the writing style (likes/dislikes) please say it now or forever hold your peace.
Anyways yeah thats it for now.
I am also highly encouraged by verbal responses more so than notes/reblogs so if you want to say anything I beg you to say it please!

Veilguard - the plot
Spoilers for up to Emmrich and Taash's recruitment.
It's very obvious that this game might segue nicely into an AOD sequel. Rook is Maia Stormbreaker, Crown Princess of Tamriel, intern at the Tamrielic Embassy under a false identity to learn about Tevinter, due to an incident back in Tamriel when she broke up a slaving ring operating in Tamriel, but managed to break a dozen different laws to do it - information theft from the archives, and using her dragon form to lay waste to an entire slaving operation, but causing collateral damage - the fire spread, many of the captives were killed too, and Elisif is frantically having to not only deal with the consequences but keep her heir's involvement quiet and decides this is a headache she didn't need and Maia snapping that Tevinters aren't people anyway, does it matter, inspires her to send Maia to the Imperium. After all, all she's heard in the South has told her the Imperium are the Big Bads. Corypheus was Tevinter and evil. Then there's the whole Alexius situation in Redcliffe, and Maia has neither forgiven nor forgotten that. The only good Tevinter she knows is Dorian, and she never really saw him as Tevinter. So off to the Imperium for cultural learning it is... and Dorian's been briefed on the whole thing and goes 'you know what, the Shadow Dragons could use this' and starts training Maia in the arts of how to do this stuff better. Without killing civilians or burning down the warehouse district, and as secrecy is paramount, do NOT use your dragon form.
Twins turn up at some point. It's unclear if we should have them join at the start or later as part of one of the factions (Crows or Lords of Fortune for Lia, Mourn Watch or Veil Jumpers for little Ria).
And then Varric and Harding arrive hunting Solas a few months later, and Varric meets Maia at her day job in the Embassy and enlists her assistance. And the game begins!
Solas - killed and soul trapped in AoD so there's two choices. Fen'Harel cultists infiltrate Liriel's elven commune at the Temple of Mythal, steal the gem and free Solas somehow. Which is why the story is fourteen years after Coryphy-death, not eight - this takes time to organise. Or we take a tip from the Avvar and this is not the same Solas but a spirit with his name and face, rebirthed by Fen'Harel worshippers all over Thedas.
Antaam invading Northern Thedas - they tried. They got Rivain. But Antiva activated its alliance with Tamriel at the urging of Prime Minister Montilyet, and Tamriel answered because the Empire's made a fortune trading with Antiva, Cyrodiil wants its assets safeguarded and the Reachfolk in particular want their holiday destination protected. The Antaam got as far as Antiva, thinking it was fat and lazy, ripe for the picking - and met the Imperial Legion, a ton of horned Skaafin, and a whole host of Reachfolk necromages. Their own dead rising to fight them broke their nerve and after burning what assets they could reach, retreated but not that far. Treviso is not occupied by the Antaam and seems peaceful, but it's effectively a Tamrielic protectorate now, occupied by the Legion. Real power however sits with the Imperial envoy to the Crows - Cicero Black Rose. Best not to ask how a man allegedly in his nineties looks like he's in his forties with natural red hair having grown back in. Oddly the Skaafin daedra have attracted very little comment - the Legion already has catmen, orcs and lizardfolk, the Skaafin are just another race to the Antivans. It is an uneasy situation but those involved are managing it, even if Cicero DOES suspect there's a traitor in the Crows.
Lucien and Ria the Elder are in Arlathan Forest with the Veil Jumpers. Morrigan is there too, and unlike in game so far where she turns up early and then proceeds to do fuck all, it's revealed she actually put the Veil Jumpers together in the first place and got everyone to Arlathan. Makes more sense that she isn't joining Maia directly if she's running the faction. Lucien is fairly high up in it too as a top researcher. He's the one who'll repair Bianca. :)
And of course, a game where the Blight's a Massive Problem can't leave the Blight Witch out. She'll make her appearance in that scene with the First Warden, intervening and using Blight mind control to make him leave. No one talks to her little sister that way, never mind her kids if either twin is present. The Venatori have learnt how to control and summon darkspawn from Ghilan'nain. Eola had already worked it out using Namiran blood magic. Apparently Namira detests the concept of Life That Cannot Rot and has Taken A Stand. There's a price... but one Eola's willing to pay. (Cannibalism, it's cannibalism, and while a Venatori might use their slaves for this, Eola's preferred prey is slavers.) She's not willing to teach Maia this, but Ria the Younger? She might well want to learn.
Minrathous vs Treviso dragon attacks. Maia goes to Minrathous, the twins take Treviso because their uncle is there, damn it! Maia gets to Minrathous and needn't have worried. Elisif relocated her most dangerous employee from Orlais to Tevinter a few years ago, and Ambassador Miraak saw a Blighted Dragon come in, went 'my time has come', assumed his dragon form and very handily deals with the problem, and Ghilan'nain flees the scene, not having anticipated this At All. Miraak's very pleased to see Maia is well, perhaps has updates from home, but probably won't be able to take the field too often what with needing to wrangle all the Tevinter politics, namely the amount of very high-ranking Venatori all over the place. Tevinter isn't actually a Tamrielic protectorate... but it might as well be, Miraak's working VERY closely with the Archon to ensure they've got them all after this.
Meanwhile in Treviso, the twins arrived saw the dragon, decided only their own dragon forms would do, and chased it away from the city over the Antaam camp, and successfully downed it over them rather than Treviso. Treviso remains unBlighted, the canals are fine, dragon is dead, the Antaam are dealing with all the casualties and Blight-sickness, and the twins return for a hug with their very emotional uncle, heroes of the city, beloved by all, Treviso's gonna be just fine.
That's as far as I got, so the rest of the plot will have to wait. But there's a theme of the elders being very definitely there but with their own issues to deal with. Dorian and Ralof - present but running the Shadow Dragons and Dorian as a magister can't just drop everything. Miraak - there but needs to wrangle Minrathous, he can't really leave the Archon's court. Morrigan - has the Veil Jumpers to organise and a Blighted Arlathan Forest to try and heal, she can't leave it. Black Rose - can't just leave Treviso, he's the one doing all the tireless running around keeping everyone happy and ensuring they're united against the Antaam. Eola - could be more involved but she's got dangerous research to do, she can't do more for the nascent Veilguard. BUT. They all have contacts with the relevant factions who can help and THAT'S how we get the actual companions recruited. No need to worry about just how Rook is getting taken seriously - with Exquisition people all over the place to vouch for her, that's not an issue. The companions however DON'T know Maia personally so she's still got to win and keep their respect. No Inquisition needed because the Tamrielic Empire's infrastructure's there - but Elisif can't be there in person.
Maia and the twins all have their Blight jabs up to date, so do all the Tamrielites, but it will take more than a Blight jab to deal with this. That said, all those tedious Blight puzzles where you have to take out a boil of Blight elsewhere that could be anywhere before the main block activates and is vulnerable? Draconic Fire Breath handles all that, even inert Blight crumbles.
The though of Maia arguing with a reborn Solas who's constantly flinging her mother's reputation in her face does please me no end.
It should also be obvious by now why AWTWR won't have a Veilguard sequel - Miraak's not running an Empire across the sea, he's Right There. The Antaam? They got Rivain by blitzkrieging it but by the time they reached Antiva, the Herald of Andraste had had time to organise and about twenty Bend Willed High Dragons plus the ex-Silent Grove lot were waiting for them. The remaining Antaam have either gone back to the Qun, tails between their legs or are licking their wounds in Dairsmuid. Gaatlok is an asset... until you're facing intelligent fire breathers who target your supplies as the first move and suddenly your entire camp's on fire. Solas? Not coming back from Miraak's treatment - a rebirthed version is possible, but it's unclear how much the new Dread Wolf would actually know - only what his followers knew or what's recorded in the Fade. Even if someone DOES unintentionally release two blighted elven gods, he's fucking prepared this time. Blighted dragon against Minrathous? No worries, he's learnt from Haven. Treviso attacked at the same time? Ex-Silent Grove Dov took care of it - they're in the area ensuring the Antaam get no ideas. It's really only going to end one way.

How we feeling ladies and gays???
Lara Croft's impact as a pop culture icon is monumental, transcending her origins in the Tomb Raider video games to become a symbol of female empowerment and representation. She was one of the first major female protagonists in gaming, breaking ground in a male-dominated industry and becoming the face of one of the most successful franchises in history, now with over 100 million units sold. Her character has earned multiple Guinness World Records, including "Most Successful Human Video Game Heroine" and "Most Recognizable Female Character in a Video Game." Beyond gaming, Lara successfully transitioned to Hollywood, portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in major films, further cementing her mainstream appeal. Lara has also become a merchandising powerhouse, with action figures, comics, novels, and brand collaborations. Her character evolved over time, especially in the 2013 reboot, to focus on her emotional depth, intelligence, and resilience, making her a symbol of empowerment for women worldwide. Lara Croft’s legacy has influenced not only the gaming industry, where she helped push the boundaries of storytelling and character-driven narratives, but also popular culture at large, where she remains an enduring icon.
We did it!
And of course, we have to talk about the next three games getting remastered too!
I'll be VERY honest with you, I straight up did not expect to see Angel of Darkness. I thought they were never ever gonna touch it again, and I wasn't even sure about Chronicles either, I thought that since they didn't do all five of the PS1 games together, the chances of them either doing Last Revelation & Chronicles or TLR alone were still slim. But it's one of the times that I am very glad to have been proven wrong!
As much as the Core purist community has made me retroactively wary of this era of the franchise, I understand and appreciate that these games still mean a lot to many people who are very normal and don't go out of their wave to make everyone else feel miserable, so to those people who had been fighting for AoD's return for so long I say congratulations, you deserve this, we all do.
Possible SPOILERS?
From what we can assume from the leaked Xbox achievement list, they are adding the Times Exclusive level in the Last Revelation, a very weird and very exclusive PC DLC that they released back in the day, sponsored by the London Times of all things, to commemorate sixty years since their coverage of the opening of Tutankhamen's tomb, no I'm not joking, and also adding back the dual pistols and corner shooting in AoD, stuff that were ultimately cut from the final version of the game. This could possibly mean that Angel of Darkness and Chronicles are not just getting a shiny new look but also possibly getting their very-well-documented game-crashing bugs fixed which is great.
I am very much willing and hoping to approach Chronicles and Angel of Darkness with an open mind and see if, with the new tweaks, they are not so bad after all. Neither of them are terrible games, only mediocre at worst, because even at her lowest, Lara still serves, but still, I think it's safe to say that this was, objectively, the lowest point in the series.
Now, I personally would hope that they will see it worthwhile to remove the cutscene where underage Lara is almost seen topless in Chronicles or is groped by Kurtis in Angel of Darkness, but I don't think they'd go that far. Still, a simple trigger warning like they did for the racist depictions in TRII and TRIII won't cut it this time.
But we're here to celebrate! Fingers crossed they add her opera dress in Chronicles, like they did for that horrid leopard print suit in Nightmare in Vegas, that would be an actual serve!
Also, this announcement only cements one thing in my mind... Next year in October we're celebrating the announcement of "Tomb Raider VII-VIII-IX Remastered, starring Lara Croft" and I swear, I will never shut up about it when it happens! Hopefully we we even get Guardian of Light too... Who knows!
