the thing with takes of characters that are born out of popular fanon is that they are becoming more and more prevalent as we create a culture where ppl interact in fandom for FANDOM'S sake, (or if I were to be less merciful, for shipping's sake, cuz u guys know what I'm talking about) without actually having experienced the source material at all or having only a passing familiarity of it

someone makes something up with no basis on the source material -> it gets popular among ppl who also don't know/care about the source material -> that fan content inspires other creators, who make more -> the plot is increasingly lost, both figuratively and literally
